The Way of a Warrior: A Journey into Secret Worlds of Martial Arts

Rate this book
This book is the sequel to the underground classic Secret Fighting Arts of the World , and chronicles the further adventures of the Indiana Jones of exotic martial arts, John F. Gilbey. His fistic and foot festivities take him in and out of dojos and gyms in the United to Iceland, Brazil, Iraq, and even an outer Tahitian island. Investigating claims of seemingly supernatural powers, Gilbey gives a strong nod to developed and carefully school inner disciplines, but has strong words for the fast buck artists who degrade serious martial arts like karate, kung fu, and jujutsu.

I checked this book out from the library and couldn't tell whether it was serious, or seriously unedited.

The author is some self-purported super warrior, financier, worldly traveler dude who chronicles his experiences at the fringes of martial possibility. It is the equivalent of a pre-internet YouTube sensationalism, I'd have to see it to believe it...

oh yes, and the author is not nearly as humble as he self-proclaims repeatedly!

Satirical stories which exploit people's expectations of the fantastic within martial arts . The author, thought to be Robert Smith tells a few good tall tales of special powers he had come across during his martial travels.Apparently many people actually took this book seriously for a while and tried to hunt down these magical warriors!

A bizarre book recommended by a friend from Judo. Very funny in a quirky kind of way. There seems to be a grain of reality in his stories.
