There is an animal thief in town stealing horses
and dogs. There is an intruder at Avery’s Zoo
killing the flamingos. The peacocks & Bernard,
the turkey are going to Lucky’s Zoo to stay
safe.
Madigan is accompanying Tiff to look at houses.
Surprise....they discovered a dead body in the
master bedroom. Tiff’s soon to be husband,
Detective Gregory is called in to investigate.
Add in another murder, the Lords of the Down’s
gentlemen club, rogue British agents, a wedding,
an international conspiracy revolving around zoo
animals, a new book launch for an intriguing read.
The characters are all artfully created.
Lucky (the cat), Rameses (the Pharaoh
Hound) and the foxes add flavor and humor to the
story.

Honestly, I wish the author had just stuck to the stolen pet story. That was unique and interesting. The found-a-body-while-house-hunting plot line, again taken from one of Charlaine Harris's Aurora Teagarden books (this time, Three Bedrooms, One Corpse) is derivative at best, and plagiarism at worst. When Loren is original and creative, her work is wonderful. Unfortunately, this is not that work.

Foxes And Fatal Attraction left me feeling eh when I turned the last page. This series has long been a favorite of mine so admitting I wasn't a big fan of the latest book is a bit difficult. Well there I said it!

I've always felt the drama inserted into the books could be toned down a bit and my thoughts on that continued in Foxes And Fatal Attraction. All the extra drama chips away at the realism of the story and characters.

The crime solving process gets very high marks from me and honestly is what holds my attention within the front and back covers of the book. The crimes are both unique and well thought out.

There was a time when I adored the characters in the series - with the exception of Lloyd, of course - but honestly I'm not feeling the love as much.

Madi - who prides herself as being truthful and unforgiving when it comes to lying - needs to sit down and have an honest face to face in the mirror! Truthful is not how I would describe Madi. She lies and keeps secrets from those she cares about (aka lying by omission) at an alarming rate in my opinion. For me Madi's relationship with Auryn has over time become a joke. She repeatedly lies to him either outright or by omission all the while repeatedly reminding the reader how unforgiveable lying is in her opinion. The relationship as described in the past two or three books no longer seems credible to me.

There are other behaviorial missteps in Foxes And Fatal Attraction that I find lowers the realism of the story such as sending Madi our into the middle of the night in pursuit of something or someone. No one in their right mind would behave in this manner because to do so is both stupid and dangerous.

It is my opinion that the author has incorporated too much drama into the last few books. I actually skipped a few pages of "drama" here and there while reading Foxes And Fatal Attraction.

The book wasn't as good as the earlier books in the series for the reasons mentioned above. The crime elements were what kept me turning pages. I probably would not reccommend this book but if I did you can be sure I would include a few candid comments regarding my criticisms stated above.

Parrots and Payback (a prequel) - A cute, little prequel about another day at the zoo with some of our favorite characters. A quick read where readers familiar with Mad's zoo will know what's going on. I personally would read this after The Peacock's Poison, but that's how I did it. LOL. 5*

Penguins and Mortal Peril #1 - A good thriller. A well written, intriguing suspense with a well thought out, twisting plot and believable characters. There's interesting information about the zoo and its animals. Madi is an intelligent, caring person, especially with the animals, and takes loving care of the zoo. There's also humor; beware of furry pyschos. The animals are a good part of the story and some even have their own personalities. I finished the book in one sitting, immersed in the mystery. If you liked Blooming, you'll like this book, too. 5*

The Silence of the Snakes #2 - Spellbinding! Ruby just gets better with each book she writes. A well written, intriguing suspense with believable characters and a plot that doesn't let the reader put down the book until the last page. This is a substantial story, not a weak cozy, that would make Christie proud to write. Don't let this series pass you by, they're must reads. 5*

Murder is a Monkey's Game #3 - Another well written, intriguing suspense this time set in France. There's an interesting plot that holds the reader's attention, although a bit slower when compared to the previous two books. The characters are still interesting and the relationships between the characters are realistic and entertaining. While not necessary since each book is a standalone, I would recommend reading the books in order. Madi's story is continuously evolving and her growth as a character, too. I contacted the author to review her work many books ago. 5*

Lions and the Living Dead #4 - Her best book yet! This is a substantial and intriguing suspense with a well written, fast paced plot and believable characters. The main characters continue to evolve and the new characters are developed enough to have weight. The descriptions and storylines are vivid and full. The dialog realistic. The story flows from page to page making it difficult to put the book down. I stayed up late to finish it. 5*

The Peacock's Poison #5 - Another well written, well thought out story with our Madi and her crew. A longer book than usual, but just as substantial, that keeps the reader immersed in the pages until the end. Someone did their homework and makes it look bad for Madi. Poor dummy, bad move. Each book in the series gets better and the books always have you thinking. I watched this author mature as an author and her work doesn't disappoint. I have to recommend this series as must reads. Start with Penguins #1 to meet Madi and finish with Lions. If these are the only two books of the series you read, you picked well. But don't miss out on Silence and Monkey's Game. Sequentially is how they should be read, but it's not necessary, they're all standalones. 5*

A Memory for Murder #6 - Oh my gosh! This book has it all: intrigue; romance; subterfuge; romance; stings; murders; and the list goes on. Every book in this series gets better and better, and this is the "betterest". The amazing plot swings the reader in every direction; yah, some things are figured out, but there are some characters that are questionable. The characters, old and new, are interesting, have grown or have enough background where needed. Their dialog is realistic and there's no stupidity in second guessing or questioning everything - just straight thoughts and actions. I couldn't put this book down until I had finished it. The is the most substantial book by Ms. Loren and I'm looking forward to #7. I'm happy I volunteered to review her work. She has immense growth as an author since the first book I read by her, Snowed In With Death. 5*

Whales and a Watery Grave #7 – What what a way to die! Sorry, but the murder of this victim is extremely different from the usual murders found in other mystery books, which complicates the investigation. Ms. Loren does another fabulous job with this book, its characters and the murder itself. Well written, intriguing and suspenseful, the story line holds the reader glued to the pages, which zip by quickly. There’s continued growth with our favorite characters and the new characters are developed enough to either like or dislike them. The animal characters always add something to the stories. A simple, relaxing holiday in Mallorca isn’t in the cards for Madi and Auryn with the complex, intriguing murder, there’s suspects everywhere. 5*

Foxes and Fatal Attraction #9 - I just love the expressions of the fox and the hound, such a funny cover; it makes you wonder what has the clever fox happy and the hound worried. Well the story does give you that info. Another intriguing, substantial murder mystery with all of our favorite characters and the return of an old favorite or two, of which one brings even more secrets and subterfuge to Madi's present and future. The animals still play a large part in the story and add to the humor, which blends in well with the drama and intrigue. Another wonderful addition to a great series. 5*

Madi gets involved in helping her best friend Tiff with her upcoming wedding and also to start looking for a property to buy with her soon to be husband, Detective Alex Gregory. It has been a bit of a whirlwind romance to Tiff and Madi, as usual, has a few doubts about this newcomer and wants to make sure he is right for her best friend. The first house they view, starts as a bit of a fumbling young estate agent having to cover for his boss, who would normally show important, ie rich, clients about. The start to view the house and make an unfortunate discovery!
An estate agent from another firm has been left tied up on the bed and murdered in a compromising position. Whoever killed him, probably didn’t think he would be found quite do soon, but there are other strange matters going on elsewhere as well. Lots of animals are being stolen. Horses and dogs, all from good breeds, are disappearing and nobody knows how or why. Detective Gregory is brought in for the murder case and at least doesn’t quite know of Madi’s history for finding dead bodies nor being involved in murder cases or ending up as a target of a killer quite often in the past.

Avery is having problems of his own, as wildfowl are being taken from Avery zoo and the culprit could be animal or human. He is also having to keep up with his former classmates and the businessmen of The Lords of the Downs group he had just been inducted to in the last book, a somewhat pompous men only club. Something Madi was not happy with, but they apparently had a heavy involvement into whether local businesses did well or were blackballed, so Auryn had to try and keep on the right side of them as would Madi!

The foxes are a lovely part of the story and the unusual attraction equally so, but I won’t ruin that for anyone. There is, of course, not just one murder and Madi just happens to be there again as that body is discovered. A few good twists in the story as you try to find out who was responsible for the murders and if they are also responsible for all the missing animals as well or if that is someone else. A good, easy read as usual for the author’s Madigan Amos Zoo Mysteries series and I have loved reading all of them so far. I look forward to reading the next as, no doubt, will anyone else who has read any of the books in the series. Add in the comic, the new book, Tiff’s maps and both the zoos and all the animals in the mix, they are always a pleasure to read.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and had already purchased it at pre-order stage and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Another roller coaster ride through book 9 in the Madigan Amos Zoo series. I had to read it in one sitting since so much was happening. I just couldn't put it down. Auryn's Avery Zoo has some of his fowl were missing or found dead. Is there a fox on the prowl? And it happens at night. At the same time, why has Jordan, who is wanted by the feds show up with plastic surgery and called Joe and taken a job as Madi's PR person for the zoo and her restaurant? What is he up to and is he back to bring more trouble to Madi? And is there a black market for illegal animals attached to some of the zoos? So many questions to follow. Of course, where Madi is, a dead body shows up. On a break to go with her BFF Tiff house hunting they come upon a dead body while viewing one of the homes. And so Madi's curiosity has her looking for the killer of a real estate company's owner, Harry Farley, who has a reputation as a womanizer. And who is Jim exactly and why is he so angry at Detective Alex Gregory. How do they know each other. Another feeling of something is not right with the detective and he is marrying Tiff who Madi is very protective of. And who killed Josh the receptionist at the real estate agency? And Auryn is so worried about the men's group, giving the thumbs up to his running the zoo which of course makes Madi mad and wanting to bring them down, How dare they! And who is stealing the horses and dogs in town? So many happenings that keep you reading until the end. Can't wait for more! I received and ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Even though Madigan is her best friend, Tiff should know better than to go house viewing with her. Because what do they find in the master bedroom? A dead body, of course – someone Madi knows and dislikes. And it is seemingly all tied up with the disappearance of valuable dogs and horses. Another intriguing mystery in an excellent series.

There are foxes, as advertised, and Lucky the cat and Rameses the Pharaoh Hound have great fun with them. The bullies and braggarts of the Lords of the Downs are ubiquitous, and as if Madi needed another reason to loathe them, they are much involved with fox hunting. I would have liked to see the legal position clarified for readers and I wasn't happy with the slur on drag hunting, but I can understand Madi being passionate about any risk. In the zoo, flamingos are falling prey to an unknown animal, the peacocks continue to be a pest, and the Lucky Zoo makes an unusual acquisition.

The author is building up quite a to-do list for the next and last book in the series: possible rogue British intelligence agents, mysterious criminals who may not be as black as they're painted, a country gentlemen's club that operates like the Mafia, an international conspiracy involving zoo animals, a wedding, a new book launch – and what's the betting on a murder or two?

This very creative series continues with book 9 which certainly maintains the quality that we have got used to in the previous books.

There is an awful lot going on, house hunting, a wedding, a murdered estate agent, Madi's latest book being due with her publishers, exotic animal thefts and an intruder killing fowl in the zoo, oh and an old acquaintance, but is he friend or foe?

Madi and her friends have their work cut out to solve all the mysteries, are they connected or just a series of unhappy coincidences? Madi finds herself in the thick of it once again, and in severe danger in the exciting climax.

It would have been very easy for the story to get confused with all these elements, but fortunately the writing is so good that this hasn't happened and the plot is easy to follow.

Although there are references back to earlier books in the series, I believe that this book makes a very good standalone read, but, unsurprisingly it is better if some (or all) of the preceding books have been read, they give more context and background to the characters.

I received an advance copy of the book, but this honest review has been voluntarily written.

House hunting turns deadly!

Lol. That should totally be the title of another work or TV show or something. I’d read/watch that! Anyway, I have enjoyed the Madigan Amos series since the beginning and I liked how this one really showed us how the characters were doing. For example, Auryn and Madi are very happy together and you can really tell. Lucky has become a very sassy cat, if that’s the right word😂😂😂. Plus, Tiff has found someone for her!!!

Another thing I liked in this book was the mystery of who killed the people. This one wasn’t obvious like it can be in a lot of books. It’s too bad that certain characters had to die. I really liked the one... sorry, I just can’t use any names which is killing me. Oops... maybe killing isn’t the best word.

Moving on!

I didn’t like that this book felt a little slow. I found myself thinking a lot of the time, “Just get on with it!” In the end, though, everything worked out and it was a good book.

Happy reading everybody!

Ok, I was wrong, the series was not finished, and I am so happy to keep reading about Madi and her gang!

This book is another fantastic addition to it, and, as always, there is a lot going on. We have (of course!) a dead body. And, while trying to solve the murder, we also have house-hunting and the wedding; exotic animals being robbed and fowl killed in the zoo, an old face that might be friend or might be foe; a book about to being published and the Lords of the Downs group.

With so much happening, it would have been easy for this to be a confusing book, but as always Ruby Lauren's plot is everything but confusing. The book is a joy to read, hard to put down and a true must-read for those who love cosies.

Madi gets roped in by her best friend Tiff to go house hunting, but they find more than they bargained for in the form of a dead body. Not only that, but a slew of valuable pedigree dogs and expensive horses turn up missing.

While Madi works hard at finding the killer and animal thefts (are they related), Auryn has problems of his own. It appears that something/someone is breaking into his zoo at night and targeting the fowl collection. Is it a fox on the loose or a two legged animal of another kind?

This ninth book in the series is as delightful as the previous 8. Madi and Auryn are a couple to continue to cheer for and their zoo friends are always around to keep them on their toes.

Wow! This book has it all! Tiff and Madi go house hunting and find a dead body in one of the bedrooms. At the Avery Zoo fowl are found dead or missing. Is it a fox? A guy named Joe applys for a job at the Lucky Zoo. He wants to work there so bad. He is willing to do anything. But why?
Expensive dogs and horses are missing. Who is taking them? And why? Are they being sold on the black market? Madi has been busy with wedding plans and has to finish her second book as the due date is just a couple of weeks away. And she has decided to go after the Lords of the Downs. She doesn't like their attitudes plus they go fox hunting. Just who is Detective Alex Gregory? And a second murder to solve.
Even with so much going on the story flows smoothly. Easy to follow along and not get confused. Very well thought out and well written. Get a copy and come along on this roller coaster ride. You'll be glad you did.

It's hard to believe there's been 9 books & a short story published in this series in less than a year. With every book I read from Ruby Loren she gotten better & better! I've lost track of how many Ruby Loren books I've read. As this series has progressed the books have gotten longer & longer, allowing a deeper & more involved plot and since the primary characters are already familiar if you read the other Madigan Amos Zoo Mysteries it's like a visit with an old friend and this is only one of the author's enjoyable series. I can't wait until the next book comes out!

Murdered estate agents, missing animals, foxes in the house, AND what's going on with Tiff? This was an enjoyable book in the series. I like the way Ms Loren teases us with the sub-plot of British Intelligence and their underworld. Who really are the good guys? If you're a fan of the series you'll like this book. If you've yet to become a fan... All the books are stand alone and quite enjoyable. I highly recommend the first book, "Penguns and Mortal Peril," to get acquainted with the characters.
I received this book as an ARC and I am happy to review and recommend it.

I really enjoy Ruby Loran's Madi Amos books. The last one I read is "Foxes and Fatal Attractions". The story is moving along quite nicely. Though I do have one tiny complaint. Sorry Ruby but we know that Auryn is Madi's fiancé and that Tiff is her best friend, it doesn't have to be mentioned just about every time she talks about them. I find it very distracting as they are just filler words.
Looking forward to my next instalment of Madi's adventures and have even expounded her virtues to others. She is becoming a very popular read.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers

Reading this series is like being with a group of old friends, and this, book 9, does not disappoint.

In amongst the mysteries, there is house hunting, wedding planning, and a dead body or two...in other words, a typical few days in the life of Madi and Auryn.

There are the usual quirky characters, and newer ones are settling in, making this a light, fun filled read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Foxes and Fatal Attraction is the ninth standalone book in this clever cozy mystery series. I recommend reading the others to have better feel for the characters. There is a lot going on in this book: wedding planning, house hunting, book due, fowls being killed, and murder. So, who did it & why?

What I like about these books is the plot is easy to follow, there is humor, and the writing is good.

I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from the author and these are my own opinions.

Fantastically Twisted Plot!
This is a very good episode of the Madigan Amos Zoo Mysteries. It involves murder and a bit of everything. Part of the story is a pair of fox kits that decide to be best buds with Lucky. It causes funny situations all through the book. As always, the plot is well developed and tight. The characters are believable and quirky. This is my favorite cozy mystery series! I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.

I think I say that about all of the books in this series, but they just get better and better. The mystery is fabulous and I was, once again, unable to predict the outcome. The characters are still quirky and love-able, the story is full of excitement and animal facts, and I was unwilling to put it down from beginning to end. This is one of the best cozy mystery series out there and I highly recommend it.

While I loved the animal related stuff and things about Madi personal, I did not enjoy all the stuff about the 'Lords'. Too many different characters, it was hard to keep them apart. But I do think it is good that Ruby Loren adressed one of Britains (and other countries') biggest problems: men with money and power, who decide other people's future...
I loved the scenes with Rameses, Lucky, the foxes and the peacocks and Bernard!
I received a copy and chose to review it.

I just love returning to old friends for that's what I feel Madi's is, an old friend. Tiff is getting married to the new handsome Detective Alex Gregory. And the Lucky Zoo is going great. Usually there is at least one murder but we got two in this chapter and Madi's discovers both of them.

Another great book with Madi and the Lucky Zoo.

Madi although busy developing her zoo and new restaurant takes time off to house hunt with Tiff. Whilst exploring the house they find the owner dead in a peculiar position in his bed. Who killed the homeowner and why are animals disappearing? Will Madi get caught up in another murder investigation? Hurry and read this book!

There is a great deal of intrigue as well as other events happening in this latest Madigan Amos story. Both Auryn and Madi are busy running their respective zoos. There are lots of little sub plots involved. Both zoo animals and pets are disappearing. Then the murders are discovered. There's plenty to keep your interest. This is another great mystery from Ruby Loren.

FOXES AND A FATAL ATTRACTION by Ruby Loren
Old acquaintance, new name, and pure curiosity made Madi give him the job. He had a shady past, but he was good at marketing and a PR. Her zoo, her comic books, and another dead body, is where Madi is at now. For Auryn is there a thief on the grounds at night, the fowl are being targeted. The pedigree animals someone wants. A book that is hard to put down, for your curiosity of what all is going on, are they connected, or just bad timing. Another good plot, that readers will enjoy of the happenings, and mishaps at the zoo. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
