Fourth-generation cattleman Luke Parker looks into his childless future and wonders what will become of the ranch he’s worked so hard to preserve.

Sarah Magarity’s job with the Department of Children and Family Services has exposed her to the worst side of parenting. So much so that the altruistic redhead doubts she’ll ever have children of her own.

The solution to both their problems might be a five-year-old boy abandoned on DCF’s doorstep just days before Christmas, but only if the cowboy can convince a jaded social worker that he’s good father material on a two-week cattle drive through Florida’s version of the Old West.

This book is ‘wholesome and heartwarming’ and I FUCKING HATED IT.

Now you’re probably wondering, Kristina, why the fuck did you read this book and how the hell did it find its way into the deplorable despot of smut that is your Kindle account? Well you see, I’ve been on this dark alien romance kick lately and needed to cleans my pallet so I went in search of a light cowboy read. In a jarring pivot, I came across this book classified as an American Romance - which I NOW see is code for no sex but lots of sanctimony. You’d think the time saved in not writing creative sex scenes would have cleared space for this author to focus more on story development, but alas, it did not. This book was basically a dissertation on the bureaucratic problems of the Florida Department for Children and Families written from the point of view of an extremely judgey, know-it-all female social worker. The author was trying very hard to teach her readers a moral lesson on love overcoming blood and the value in adopting older children and giving them good homes. The message in this book was NOT subtle. The author uses her pen as a hammer and bludgeons the reader with her moralizing throughout the entirety of the story. So what could have been a lighthearted read about a found family was just an exercise for my eye muscles as they rolled their way into the back of my skull MANY times throughout this 177 page book. There was even an attempt at intrigue with who the little boy’s real father might be, but it was done so obviously that the breadcrumbs the author dropped for this mystery were large enough to choke even the most naive of readers.
The positive points in this book are the hero Luke and his interactions with the little boy Jimmy. This was very cute and endearing. Also the accuracy of the setting on a Florida ranch and cattle drive seemed very authentic, so one star for each of those. The negative points in this book is pretty much everything else.
Now I’m going to go read some lactation kink to bring some balance to my life. Cheers.

It would be easy to succumb to Ty's personality, Sara realized. The rancher had a generous nature, a ready smile she could get used to. 42%

Sarah works at DCF. One day, a woman comes in and drops off a five-year-old, telling Sarah the boy's mom is dead. The boy's name is James Tyrone Parker. Sarah knows a Tyrone Parker, he is a rancher in the area. We are in Florida.

Tyrone is an investment-banker-cum-rancher. The ranch has been in his family for four generations. His wife left him six years ago.

Sarah says the boy is Tyrone's. Tyrone says the boy isn't his. He demands a DNA test. Smart man! In the meantime, he and Sarah take the boy out on the trail for a ten-day cattle roundup.

THE GOOD

The story is cute. There are some funny moments with the kid. One of the best is when one of Sarah's frequent grammar lessons gets misinterpreted.

Before Sarah could say she didn't mind, something slammed into the back of her legs. Her knees buckling, she stumbled forward a step. Several sets of hands reached to steady her. The others could have saved themselves the trouble. One strong arm wrapped around her waist and kept her upright.

"Watch out, boy. You almost knocked Ms. Sarah off her feet."

"Sorry, Ms. Sarah."

"Jimmy," she said, quickly stepping out of Ty's embrace. "It's okay."

"Did you see me, Ms. Sarah? Me and Ranger are pals. I steered him all by myself."

All too aware of the brooding male presence behind the little boy, Sarah fixed her focus on Jimmy's upturned face. "Ranger and I are pals."

Jimmy's cheeks scrunched. "Oh. Did you ride Ranger, too?"

"No, I meant... Well, yes, I..." Her thoughts created a log jam that her mouth couldn't get past.

Oblivious, Jimmy rushed on. "He's high off the ground, isn't he? I was afraid I'd fall, but Mr. Ty, he held me tight."
52%

Another 'good' in the book is Ty. I like this man. He's forgiving, kind, generous. He's a great guy. Sarah fears the worst from him,

As his gaze drifted across the gathering of ranch hands and guests, Sarah felt her heart stutter. She'd known from the beginning that forgiveness didn't play a big role in Ty's vocabulary. For proof, she only had to look at the way he'd treated Chris and Tim. Snuggled against his chest as he carried her to safety, she hadn't given a single thought to the possibility that he'd use her mistake against her. - 49%

He doesn't humiliate her or shame her, of course. He's a kind and merciful guy.

He's also a better parent than Sarah is. He knows you have to set boundaries for kids and he knows kids are going to mess up once in a while, both concepts Sarah doesn't seem to grasp. Although they clash sometimes where raising the boy is concerned, I was mainly on Ty's side of things.

A third good thing about the book is that Sarah is being burned out by the hard work of being a social worker. The job is grinding her down and turning her into a worse and worse human being every day. The horrors of working for DCF and the changes it can cause in an idealistic, caring person are realistically portrayed here, even though I think the inner workings of DCF in this book are a big stretch. (For instance, a social worker taking home a little abandoned boy and then going on a cattle roundup with him and his maybe-father.)

THE BAD:

I didn't really like Sarah. I didn't HATE her, she wasn't a horrible person, but I didn't understand why Ty was falling in love with her. "She's hot" is NOT a good reason to fall in love with someone IMO. I expect more from a romance. If it's erotica and solely about fucking, that's one thing. But if you expect me to believe two people are in love, you'd better give me something.

The woman brought new meaning to the word BOSSY. She found him sadly lacking as father material. She worked at a demanding job a hundred miles away from the ranch that occupied all his time and effort.

And yet...
55%

And yet nothing. It boggled my mind that he was 'in love' with her after ten days. She's anxious, and also the kind of person who KNOWS she's right and feels like she has to guide others in the correct way to go... which is so annoying. Sure, she loves Jimmy. But beyond that I just could not get a handle on why Ty would want to spend the rest of his life with her. "She has red hair and is pretty" is not cutting it for me.

MYSTERY

The question of 'who is Jimmy's father?' can be answered by anyone with half a brain by page 60. SO. Not really keeping me on my toes there.

HOW'S THE SEX, CARMEN?

No sex. I don't want to call this a 'clean' romance because I resent the implication that sex is dirty, but it is a sexless romance. They kiss a couple of times and he cops a feel of her breast one time. That's all.

Ty leaned down and brushed his lips against hers. Searing heat passed through her at his touch. Slowly, he kissed her again, this time lingering to plunder her mouth until her breath quickened and she silently cursed the layers of sweaters and coats between them. When he finally drew back, she felt dazed and confused and a little uncertain. - 67%

TL;DR Mediocre romance about an uptight social worker and a kind rancher falling in love. Due, basically, to a child being thrust into their lives. This is par for the course in American Romance. It's not a bad little book, but neither is it good IMO.

It has a really sweet conclusion, though. I like the book's message, about

Good book. When orphaned Jimmy is dropped at her office on Christmas Eve, Sarah can't just leave the five year old at a group home for older kids. She breaks the rules and takes him home with her. Over the next few days she attempts to reach the man who may be Jimmy's father. When she does, Ty is unwilling to believe that his ex's son is also his until the DNA test comes back. He does invite Sarah and Jimmy to come to the ranch and participate in their cattle drive. Ty plans to keep his emotional distance until he knows for sure if Jimmy is his. Sarah is certain that he is and determined that Ty connect with Jimmy as soon as possible.

While alone at the social services office on Christmas Eve Sarah is thinking about how her job hasn't turned out the way she expected it to. She's frustrated that she hasn't been able to do the good things that she wanted to and is feeling burnt out. Having Jimmy dumped on her gives her a chance to do something that will, hopefully, have a positive effect on his life. Even though her prior experience with Ty doesn't give her confidence in his abilities as a parent she is determined to see him do the right thing. I loved seeing the sparks between them as she begins to see that her first impressions of him were wrong. The longer she stays at the ranch with Ty and Jimmy the harder she falls for both of them, but she's afraid of what might happen if DNA shows that Ty isn't Jimmy's father.

Ty had tried hard to make his marriage work, but his ex wasn't happy living on the ranch. When she took off shortly after his father's death and the same day he found out about his best friend's death it was a blow to his happiness. He has spent the time since then trying to bring the ranch back to a profitable status. When he finds out about Jimmy he is quite certain that the boy isn't his, no matter what it says on his birth certificate. He refuses to get his hopes up until the DNA results are in, but he also can't stand the idea of Jimmy going to the group home. I loved the way he invited them to the ranch even though he had no idea how difficult it could be. It was pretty sweet to see that no matter what he said he couldn't help but give Jimmy all the attention he needed. I also loved seeing him getting closer to Sarah and thinking about a future with both of them.

I liked the depth of the characters. Ty's reservations were realistic and his reluctance to commit his emotions understandable. Sarah's idealism showed her big heart and I could easily see how much she wanted things to work out for Jimmy. I loved seeing the changes both of them went through as the book went on. The twist at the end was not unexpected, as I suspected it early on, but it was well done.

This book is a great read from Leigh Duncan. Luke is the man every women wants. He owns a ranch that belonged to his family it's called Circle P. He's the one that comes in your life and wants to make it better no matter the issue. Sarah the case worker who got into this profession to help make the system better. She sweet and caring and would do anything for the kids. Jimmy a sweet caring young kid who bring the two main characters together. From the very beginning of this story you knew that there was something between luke and sarah and as the story progresses you can't but hope that in the end everything out for this family in the making.

There were many side characters throughout the book. The two that stick out the most are Doris and Seth. Doris is Luke's cook at his ranch and the other is seth who is her husband but he also help luke with the ranch.

At first the book was slow to start but once I got a little ways in I really started to enjoy the book and the story I was being told. I can't wait to read the next one in her series The Hometown Heroes called Brett.

I cant understand how a Department of Children and Family services - responsible for looking after abandoned children and those in danger -- can close down for the holidays. Surely there has to be someone on duty??

There were several things about this story that had me rolling my eyes in disbelief and in the end I gave up.

A sweet American romance that will steal your heart.

On Christmas Eve Sarah Magarity is the only person in her office. She doesn’t expect anyone to drop by, especially not a woman dropping off a little orphaned boy. Now it’s up to her to find his father and demand that he takes responsibility for his child. That is until the name in the birth certificate names the man she had problems the year before when he tried to start a big brother, which turned out to be a big failure with the first batch of foster kids. Now she will make sure he takes his duties seriously and make sure that he will be unto the task of caring for a small child.

Ty can’t believe that he is the father of this little boy. He won’t accept it until he sees a DNA test proving it. Considering his ex-wife left him during his most difficult time and that she never contacted him to let him know she was expecting a child, he believes the kid is another man’s biological child.

Jimmy is a five year old who just lost his mother and has not known any father in his entire life. As he finds himself in at the Department of Children and Family Services he only want to make sure he hasn’t missed Christmas, so he can give Santa his wish list, he doesn’t want any toys, he just wants his mother back.

As he steals Sarah’s heart she will break many rules trying to bring him happiness. Even spend time with the rancher that makes her feel things that she had not expected or want. Now as Sarah and Ty spend time together they find love, but will the happiness of a child bring them together or drive them apart once Jimmy’s true paternity results comes to light. One or both of them will have to make changes to their lives if they want to bring Jimmy happiness otherwise he will be stuck in foster care for the rest of his young life.

I know that the story revolves around the romance between Ty and Sarah, but Jimmy is a great part of the story and he stole my heart with his cuteness. This trio might just steal your heart too if you let them.

The story is profound and has some secrets that might just surprise you too.

I can’t blame the heroine of this story for losing her heart to little Jimmy, because I did, too and right off the bat.

Sarah is a social worker who’s left with an orphaned boy on Christmas Eve. The father is potentially a man she knows, Ty Parker, but there’s no real proof. Ty is understandably shocked that he might be the father to the boy and asks for DNA tests. While they wait for those to come through, either little Jimmy has to go to the group home or stay with his “dad”…who happens to be about to leave on a cattle drive.

Of course we know what the choice is going to be, and that Sarah is required to go along with them. It’s a wonderful time for everyone to get to know each other, away from phones, computers and other distractions.

Ms. Duncan scores again with this heartwarming story. I sped through it, gobbling each chapter up in big gulps, completely engrossed in the story. The characters are all three-dimensional and completely believable, each with their own unique set of quirks and traits.

While I do admit finding it a little surprising that a seasoned social worker would take the word of clearly troubled boys over a respected rancher, thus creating the conflict for our couple (at least at the start), it didn’t ruin the story for me. I understand, I suppose, why it had to be that way and why our heroine had to start out by feeling dubious about Ty. If she hadn’t, everything else would have been too easy.

Jimmy might have been a bit too well-behaved, and I might have disagreed with some parenting choices that were made (particularly about how he was allowed to eat), but again, this wasn’t a deal breaker. Not when the rest of the story, and the secondary characters were so delightful (particularly Doris).

Why not take a trip on a cattle drive and get to know this group of folks? It’s a sweet, touching and very romantic story with an unexpected and lovely ending.

I find many new authors through sales on their books especially the ones that are free for a limited time. The second book in this series was free but I'm trying real hard to start series from the beginning so I bought Luke too. I wasn't disappointed.

It's the holidays and Social Worker Sarah Magarity is getting ready to shut down the office and start her two week vacation. First she is cleaning up from the holiday party they sponsored for clients. With the sound of the door opening everything changed. Sarah is about to break a few rules as she listens to the woman who brought the child in.

As she perused the paperwork she wonders if it's possible that the father listed on the birth certificate is the same Luke Parker she had an altercation with over two boys sent on a cattle drive.

In an effort to keep the child out of an inappropriate group home, she agrees to Luke taking him on the Cattle Drive but only if she goes along.

While Luke is sure Jimmy isn't his son he is determined to see the boy has a good time on the roundup. He also finds himself more than a little attracted to Sarah.

I love the way this plays out, there's lots of emotion, some tears, some angst and just the right amount of heat.

I will definitely be reading the rest of this series!

I enjoyed reading this heartwarming Romance. It flows at a good pace with enough descriptive detail so that a picture was easily painted in my mind while I was reading. The story is engrossing with several unexpected twists. Sarah and Ty have good chemistry, but I really thought the little guy, Jimmy, was just too cute and absolutely so adorable.
The little boy dumped on Christmas Eve at Social Services into the burned-out, bummed-out care of a disenchanted case worker is the catalyst that ultimately challenges both Ty and Sarah to become better people when they are forced, for the youngster’s sake, to confront some residual issues of the past. This finely-structured story is a light, occasionally humorous read that is perfect holiday reading whatever your age.

This book was given to me by the author in return for my honest review. No other compensation has been received.

I loved this book!!
The Rancher’s Son by Leigh Duncan is as charming a book as I’ve read this year. Sarah works for DCFS and tries not to get involved with her cases but when a five year old is literally dropped off in her office over Christmas, she can’t help but lose her heart. The search for Jimmy’s father leads her to a rancher who runs a cattle drive for tourists and Sarah signs on with Jimmy so that Ty can get to know the child. The details of the trail ride are fun to read but the heart of the story is the building love between Sarah and Ty and Jimmy and the hope that it will turn out well for all three.

A sweet romance!

Luke and Sarah will win your heart in this hometown romance. Seriously Luke is a cowboy need I say anymore. Sarah a social worker who only wants what is best for the children that are placed in her care . Even if that means cancelling a vacation to Hawaii to keep Jimmy out of a group home and hopefully reunited with a car he has never known. Of course nothing is that easy so he ready for the bumps in the road but you will get your HEA.

It’s becoming a habit of mine to skip to the end of the story when I feel like the middle is dragging, which was the case in this instance at only 48%.

The Plot

Five year old Jimmy is dropped off at DCF, and since it’s Christmas Eve, the office is empty except for Sarah (FMC). Due to some (plot convenient) issues, Sarah abandons regulations and becomes personally invested in his case. There’s a what are the odds/it’s a small world moment when Sarah just so happens to know the father listed on Jimmy’s birth certificate (MMC). It turns out the “father”, Luke, had previously reached out to DCF to start a program for difficult foster kids, and—spoiler—it didn’t end well and they didn’t part on the best of terms. Anyways, Sarah gets in contact and they meet. She explains that his ex-wife/Jimmy’s mom died, and that he now has a son to take care of. Luke explains that although it appears that way, there’s no way that Jimmy is his son (more on this later). Sarah doesn’t believe him and accuses him of not taking responsibility, then explains that if he doesn’t claim Jimmy he’ll be sent to a boys’ home that isn’t suitable for a child his age. Luke declares they take a paternity test, and agrees to take Jimmy whilst they wait for the results in order to keep him out of the group home. He explains that Jimmy will have to accompany him on the cattle drive he has planned, and Sarah insists on accompanying them to make sure Jimmy is taken care of.

⇩⇩ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 ⇩⇩

My Thoughts:

The storyline of Jimmy’s questionable paternity lost my interest before 50%. Here’s why:

The question “Is Jimmy Luke’s dad?”—and the mystery/uncertainty surrounding said question—is a major part of the story, which is why I lost interest when the answer was glaringly obvious.

The answer to the question is: no, Luke is not Jimmy’s dad. His biological father is JD (Luke’s best friend).

Here are the loaf sized crumbs I followed to come to that very conclusion early on.

Luke immediately casts doubt that he’s Jimmy’s father, which is that whilst Jimmy’s age puts his conception at a time where Luke was still married to and living with Jimmy’s mom, they hadn’t had an intimate relationship during said time.

“No.” Luke shook his head. “You don’t understand. Millie and I—” he stopped to mop his face “—our marriage fell apart long before she left. He’s not mine. He can’t be.”

After that we learn that Luke’s best friend, JD, had died a couple of years ago. Also, said best friend shared a striking familial resemblance to Luke when they were kids.

The boy wasn’t his. He couldn’t be. Just because Jimmy had blond hair and brown eyes like his own, it didn’t mean they were related. Hell, his best friend, JD, had looked like him, too, but no one ever mistook them for brothers.

Continuing the timeline, we learn that JD died during Millie’s (Jimmy’s mom) pregnancy. The fact that news of JD’s death instantly sent her packing is another warning sign.

”But to run off without telling anyone she was pregnant…”

Sensing the opportunity to learn more about Jimmy’s mother, Sarah edged close enough to lean against a counter. “So, six years ago, no one even guessed?”

“Has it been that long?” Doris lowered the two pecan pies into the waiting cooler before answering her own question with a nod. “That sounds about right. She split the same day we got the news about the Dalton boy, so I reckon it was.”

Next is the reveal that JD was in town during what we’ll call the “conception months”. Not only that but he was close with Millie, and there was tension between the two of them that had never been there before.

Even though his best friend had argued against his marriage to Millie, the threesome had always been close. And JD, he’d always been able to make her listen to reason. But if Luke had counted on his friend to smooth things over, he’d been wrong about that, too. Instead, there’d been an added tension in the house that summer.

Last, but by no means least, is Jimmy’s name: James Lucas Parker. His middle name is after Luke, which can be taken as Millie’s way of giving Jimmy a part of his father. But as for his first name…well, we’ve been introduced to another character whose name also starts with the letter J.

Basically, the truth was obvious and I wanted to see how much longer it would take for either Luke or Sarah to put it all together. So I used the magical Kindle magnifying glass and jumped to that part—which was at 84%.
I just didn’t have the patience to continue to read about the characters’ blindness as the truth stared them right in the face, because I wasn’t even enjoying the second most important storyline which was the romance.

I would have pushed past my issue with the predictable plot of the romance between Luke and Sarah was more than them constantly thinking about how attracted they are to the other. There were other interesting storylines that were ignored in favor of their superficial lusting. Given the fact that Jimmy is crucial to the storyline, I expected a big part of the story to be dedicated to the development of his relationships with both Sarah and Luke. Was that the case? Nope. Poor Jimmy was forgotten, or at least downgraded in priority, as Luke and Sarah obsessed over their feelings for the other. So my disappointment in the execution of both the mystery-paternity and character-relationship-developments had me skipping over the middle and to the end.

Cowboy up

Cute story about a little boy abandoned at a social Service Office on Christmas Eve and his caseworker has to find his Father so she can go on vacation. But this Father swears he can't be the boys dad but he'd take him in a Cattle Drive while the DNA is tested. She just happens to go along and falls in love with the handsome cowboy. The little boy is precious. I just love stories like this. And Luke is a good hero. There's some angst but nothing terrible and the book ends with an HEA.

A heartwarming story that tugs at your heart.

Cowboys, social workers, and rattlesnakes kept me turning the pages of this compelling tale. While five-year-old Jimmy captured my heart, Luke and Sarah needed to communicate with each other. But it all works out in the end. I figured out who the father was early on, but I wasn't 100%, so it was nice to have my guess validated.

I was so worried about not liking this one when I picked it up tbh...Westerns really isn't my genre and I rarely read such romances but Luke turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

The plot of the book as a whole was presented neatly and there was no unnecessary drama in the book. Sarah and Luke bonded majorly over Jimmy and he wasn't used just a prop which made the book infinite times better for me.

The way Luke warms up to Jimmy slowly and comes about to caring for him, their camping trip together and him loving Jimmy unconditionally despite his parentage were just a few things that made this whole reading experience wholesome.

I am ashamed to say that before I dove into Leigh Duncan's Glades County Cowboys books, I had yet to read a Harlequin Romance. I am not entirely sure how I've lived my life so far without reading one, but I finally did, and it was well worth the wait.
Rancher's Son was the first ever Harlequin Romance I read, not only by Leigh Duncan, but altogether, and it was amazing! As soon as I started the book I was interested, and I would only fall more in love as I read on.
Sarah Magarity doesn't know if she was fully prepared to work for the Department of Children and Family Services when she accepted the job. She never knew how truly hard it would be to work, case after case, for children whose parents have abandoned them, and/or have come from broken homes. Little did she know that soon enough, one child would walk through her door who would change her life forever.
And then there's James Tyrone Parker, or Ty, as his friends and family call him, who's escaped to the Circle P ranch for horse riding, cattle herding, and Floridian fresh air. After a tiresome and emotionally exhausting relationship Ty had years ago, he's sworn off relationships, and things that can only complicate his life.
Little does he know.
The thing is, Ty's previous relationship ended five years ago...at the same age as the little boy who just walked through Sarah's door.
I don't have to tell you how excited I was to read this book after I read the plot. It was so good! I loved every single one of the characters in Rancher's Son, especially Jimmy (the five year-old), and I normally have a rough time adjusting to the way children in books are written. Leigh Duncan most certainly deserves an A+!
If you're looking for an incredibly sweet story that will warm your heart, bring tears to your eyes, and renew your faith in the world, this is your book.

A heartwarming story of finding happiness where you least expect it! It was quick to grab my attention, and the plot developed at a decent pace. The little boy stole the show and kept me smiling throughout. I felt like the relationship between Luke and Sarah could have been played out more, but overall, it was a solid read with the happy ending we were looking forward to. Enjoyed it!

Stressed out Department of Children & Family Services employee Sarah Magarity is just about to get some much needed time away from her hectic office, when a last minute visitor just before the office closes for the holiday leaves her with an adorable 5 year boy and no where to place him. She sets out to track down the man listed on his birth certificate before she's left with no alternative than to place him in a group home that will traumatize the little guy.

Rancher Luke Parker has suffered a lot of loss in his life, but he's persevered and is happy running his family legacy, the Circle P Ranch. He's not sure why he's being summoned to DCFS, but he's a busy man and doesn't have time for whatever game this woman is playing. When he discovers he might be a father to a child he knew nothing about, he's shocked to say the least. He agrees takes him in while the tests are being run, but he makes sure Sarah stays right there hands on for when it's proven his ex is lying!

Luke ( The Hometown Heroes Series-Book 1 )
By: Leigh Duncan
Luke is book one in The Hometown new series and boy what a start. I really enjoyed this sweet story. This is one of those stories that grabs your right at the start. Duncan writes a Heartwarming story that will have you in tears. A homeless five year old boy, a young woman with the Department of Children and Family Services, and Luke a fourth generation cattleman who wonders what will become of the ranch he has put so much into. All three of these are tied together right before Christmas. I felt sorry for all three of them. I felt like saying , hey I’ll take him home with me. He stole my heart.
I was given a complimentary copy, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Sarah and Luke

Sarah Magarity works at DCF and was leaving for the holidays when a woman brings in a little boy by the name of Jimmy because his mother has died. He has no other family except the father listed on his birth certicate.
Luke Parker is the owner of the Circle P and is getting ready for a cattle drive. He knows Jimmy isn't his son but won't let him be put in the system until he finds out for sure. He decides to take Jimmy on the cattle but Sarah won't let him go without her. Sparks fly between Luke and Sarah but things get complicated.
A new author for me but it won't be the last book of hers I read.

This was a nice light read. Much of the story focused on the main characters' relationship and attitude towards Jimmy rather than each other. The romance was light but sweet. The story progresses well with an interesting plot and a good mystery underlying it all. Not a lot of side characters, which makes the story focus in on the three of them rather than spreading it out too much. An interesting read, though again, I would have liked a little more romance rather than just personal growth. Nevertheless, it was an entertaining read that I enjoyed.

This book lets a little boy steal the story. It is about Jimmy Lucas Parker and finding his forever home. Sarah Magarity works for DCFS. She tries to find homes for foster kids. Only on her last day before her vacation, little Jimmy Lucas Parker walks in and her heart melted. No way could she put him in a group home. Luke Parker is running the family ranch. Just when he thinks are running smoothly, a bump in the road occurs. No way is the child his. He wants nothing to do with him but Jimmy has a way about himself. He just crawls into your heart and stays there.

Entertaining

This was an entertaining romance following the usual formula. A social worker with a five year old boy in hand and a handsome cowboy named as the boy's father on his birth certificate. Trouble is, the boy's mom is deceased, and the cowboy claims he could not be the child's father. While awaiting the results of the paternity test, they take part in a cattle drive where they learn new things about themselves. The editing was done well and the relationships between the characters was good. A nice light read.

Heartwarming Story of Family Discovered

Is it blood that makes a family whole? Or can a family be pieced from broken individuals who find love together? Luke discovered his dead ex wife had a son, and Sarah, the pretty social worker who is tasked with finding the child a home arrives at Luke's assuming he's the father. Although some of the details in DCS procedure seem contrived for the story's sake, the novel delivers a beautiful story of second chances, love, and hope. I read late into the night, unwilling to put this one down.

First of all Sarah was a total ***** to Ty. I don't care what type of job she has, she was a total ***** the whole book, lol. Then, after she'd grown to like/love him, she al, of a sudden expected him to take care of a child that me kept saying was not his! Being a judgmental *****. I can't think to call her anything else, lol.... I made it half way through ch 12, then stopped b/c she just got on my nerves, smh....

Pure Florida Life on a Ranch

Having lived in southern Florida for most of my life the imagery depicted in this first book of The Hometown Hero's brought tears to my eyes as I remembered my great-grandfather riding a replica of a Brahma bull in one of the many parades in West Palm Beach during the 50's. I loved the descriptions of the cattle drive and looking for cattle in the scrub brush along the route to Kissimmee. Can't wait to continue reading the rest of the series!

This was a good quick read book. I liked it.
Sarah is a Social Worker, Ty owns a cattle ranch, and Jimmy is a 5 year old little boy whose mother has died.
His birth certificate states that his father is Ty. Is he the father, or is there someone else that he belongs to? A great way to find out is to read the book.

There is a cattle drive, stampedes, and a lost child to read about. A book worth reading.
This is a good clean book that I really enjoyed reading.

Finding Home

Sarah was doing last minute paperwork before leaving in Christmas vacation. She worked at DCF and a lady & little boy came in. Poor Jimmy's mom passed away in NYC and her mom's friend brought him down to a father that didn't know about him. Luke was getting the ranch ready for winter round up when Jimmy & Sarah came into his life.
