Aisling Grimlock

Grim & Bear It

Rate this book
Redmond Grimlock is eighteen and full of himself. He’s just finished probation and is officially a full-time reaper. He’s also the on-call babysitter when his parents decide to go out for a kid-free evening, which means he has to watch his four brothers and sister (and Jerry) – all teenagers – while holding down the fort and making sure they don’t destroy Grimlock Manor.

It looks to be a normal night until Redmond gets a call. It seems there’s an emergency soul that needs to be reaped and he’s the one who has to do it. Since he can’t trust his siblings in the house without a chaperone, he has no choice but to take them with him.
Instead of an office building or a quiet death, Redmond finds himself at a rave in a rough neighborhood… and none of his charges will stay in the car.
It’s a typical Grimlock adventure, with Aisling going missing and tripping over trouble while Redmond has to find her, collect a soul, and stay out of jail.

t’s a night full of antics… and maybe a little danger. It might be one for the Grimlock record book, which is well and truly something given the trouble that always seems to find them.

This is a short story set in the Aisling Grimlock world. It’s set back and can be read at any point in the timeline.

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

4 Stars... The Grimlock children as teens... Enough said! It is always good to be back with the Grimlock family and this time we get to go back in time to adolescence and see the holy terrors they were... When Redmond is sent to retrieve a soul, while babysitting the brood, who happens to be a pimp at a rave, you know things are going to go from bad to worse... When Aisling decides she is going to explore said rave, you know things just got catastrophic... A raucous adventure that only the Grimlocks could have... Truly enjoyable:)

Mayhem

Mayhem ensued. There was a bunch of craziness in the character interaction. Sometimes I want to strangle the characters or shove a sock in their mouths, this is because I become a character and know I would be driven insane in moments.
Still great fun reading the book. Waiting a bit impatiently for next book.

so hilarious!!!

Ooh I absolutely loved this book. It was hilarious and so funny that I was laughing out loud throughout it.
Redmond is 18 and he is tasked with babysitting the gang while his parents go out for the evening.
During the evening, a call comes in to absorb a soul and it's a emergency.
Redmond has no choice other than taking all his brothers and sisters including Jerry with him on the pickup.
Trouble starts when they arrive at the pickup point and discover its a rave with some very suspicious characters.
Next Aisling goes inside as she is curious with regard to what's happening inside. Aiden follows her when she doesn't return.
What follows is some hilarious and shocking situations that the gang find themselves in which are laugh out loud funny.
I love Aisling as a child. She is so funny and hilarious.
I would love to see Grindr in future books to see his reaction for how Aisling turns out as an adult.
Totally loved this book and was sad to see it end

Poor Redmond

Babysitting for his brother's and sister, oh and Jerry, Redmond a new Reaper on the job for two weeks gets called out on an emergency job. Not being the smartest Grimlock sibling he packs everybody into his mum's van and sets out to collect the soul. He panics a bit on realising the future dead man is at a rave in a very bad part of town with lots of sex and drugs on offer. Five minutes he thinks, get in ,get the soul, get out. Locking his family in the car telling them to stay put he sets off inside. But these are the Grimlock children so nothing goes as planned. Really funny as usual. I love the alternate point of views in these short stories.

oh what fun Redmond is in charge and Aisling is at large, can Redmond get it all together including his siblings before his parents get home....lol Not a chance.

omg I always laugh so much during an Aisling book but this was was seriously extra, fucked up funny...lol Aisling as a teen was even more terrifying than she is as an adult and that is saying something, Jerry is even more adorable and as for Redmond, Cillian, Braeden and Aiden well they are all hilarious and wonderful teen brothers, I really love this family.

The Grimlock family will tickle your funny bone!

All the 'Grim' stories are so much fun, but this short is flat out hilarious. This flashes back to one of Redmond's first jobs when he was 18. Getting a peek at the kids at such a young age is a treat. The snark reigns supreme in this one as we get a rare peek at Aisling as a precarious teen. The kids talk themselves into more trouble than they talk themselves out of! Thank you, Amanda M. Lee...I snorted so much liquid through my nose laughing at this one, I think I'm officially booger-free! 😂

Amusing story the Grimlocks as teenagers, not much different from them being adults. But, the situation they find themselves in when Redmond is left in charge of his younger brothers and sister and has been called to reap a soul. A rave, a biker and a few hookers thrown in, before the cops arrive and things get more interesting. You can't help but laugh, especially when Redmond thinks he has everything under control.

I love this series

I totally love the grim family! They crack me up. If you are new to the series I suggest reading the shorts first, then the longer books timeline wise. If you don't care it won't really matter. Is love to see Aisling meet Aunt Gillis from Amanda's other series. And Jerry and Luke from Mystic Circus would either love each other or hate each other for life. All of her books are great! Give stars!!!

From Redmond's perspective

I love these short stories, written from the point of view of the alternate characters. I think the fact that she can do this so well is one of the best demonstrations of the craft that Ms . Lee displays in her writing. She clearly has fully formed each reality in her series, and these short stories prove that.

I also enjoy when she places these short stories in the Main character's childhood. Such fun to see you Aisling in Action

Another good one

The Grimlock family is my favorite series by Amanda M. Lee. I really like these little shorts from the different character’s perspective. They help me get my fix of the Grimlocks in between the full length books. In this one you have 18 year old Redmond in charge of the teenage Grimlocks, and Jerry. Nothing good can come of that.

Always hilarity and chaos with this crew

I laughed so hard reading this book. Poor Redmond in charge of the Cree, when an emergency call comes on leading them to a rave in Detroit. I constantly give spoilers, but this is a must read, if you enjoy snark and hilarious/ awkward situations.

Hilarious

I love the Grimlock family. Especially stories about their younger years. Aisling is a sassy teen who knows how to work everyone around her to her advantage. Except, maybe, Jerry. He has to be the most awesome character, ever. Well, aside from Aunt Tillie. I really want those 3 to meet one day.

Hilariously entertaining

I love the series and all of the characters. Sad to say for the most part the series is over but a new series is coming and some of the characters will be appearing in that one from what I hear. But this group of characters is extraordinarily entertaining and you need to read all of the grim lock series check them out

Hilarious!

I highly recommend this laugh out loud funny short story, and warn the readers that the danger the children often put themselves in was fiction only. That's why I could laugh at their predicament. I believe it is too outlandish to trigger anyone, but there is a very short segment that may. Enjoy!

Classic Aisling!

Go to this address and collect the soul of Peter Lingstrum,so begins a hilarious night of misunderstandings. A stand alone story, but you'll enjoy it more if your familiar with the Grimlock family.

Poor Redmond

I love these short stories. They cleanse the palate so to speek. These are quick fun easy reads. They let you get a peek to the younger years, also each story delves a little deeper into the brothers.

Love love love all of Amanda M. Lee's series. This is a favorite because I can't get enough of Aisling. To read this short from Redmond's prespective as an 18 year old was awesome. Aisling, of course, has a cameo as she is the center of this family.

I love the POV of the other Grimlocks, and Redmond is no exception. This was a fun story of a babysitting job gone wrong. The mystery was interesting, and of course the characters are entertaining as always.

LITTLE SISTER SAVES THE DAY

What do you do when the people that you're babysitting don't listen, take matters in their own hands, and the rave they're in gets raided? They were lucky that they had an uncover cop on their side.

wrong place, wrong time

Hey, that’s a good work ethic Redmond has, but when he got the call from headquarters he probably should have called his parents. Or left the other kids at home. Or…almost anything else. Yup. So funny!

Great Short Story

Wonderful look at Redmond as the big brother. In the other books he is already much older and we see him as a bit aimless in relationships. Really he carries a heavy burden at times.

Fun and quirky as always but enjoyable to see this side of him.

Everything I've read in this series has been great entertainment. Amanda M. Lee has a seriously unique imagination. I've not read one book, regardless of the series, that I haven't enjoyed. Each time I looking forward to the next part of the story. Thank you!

Great short

Great short story. This story was hinted at through the main series and it was a good short for Redmond to lead.
