Undone by Kelley Armstrong (writing as Katey Wolfe) is a New Adult standalone contemporary romance. It is a short novel. The goodreads reviews for this book might be a bit confusing because the story has been reworked. This new version will be released as an e-book June 21, 2016.
There was another version of this story originally published in 2014. The story was in a book called Unfiltered & Undone. It was part of a pseudonymous collaborative series with a bunch of author friends who each contributed a novel under a pen name. Undone did not function well as a standalone. But the series was recently disbanded and the novel has been reworked as a standalone, removing all the elements tied to the series.
So I am reviewing the new standalone version.
Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors. So I was excited to learn that she had written a book as Katey Wolfe. This book is not like anything else that she has written. And the genre is something totally different for her.
The book alternates narrators between 21 year old student Jess and 24 year old Declan (a shooting instructor/self-defense teacher). The book takes place in Arizona.
Jess' best friend is Sami (who moved to study in Rhode Island). Jess' ex is Chandler Walker, a rich boy who is now stalking her. Because of this Jess has been taking gun/shooting lessons. This actually made me a bit uncomfortable. I could not really see how her learning to use a gun would help her with her crazy ex. I would much rather that she had mace or a taser.
I enjoyed Jess' part of the story. Her friendship with Sami was sweet. And the story with Chandler was intriguing. There was something else that happened to Jess that was a very important part of the story. And I found that part very compelling.
Declan also has an interesting story. His backstory was gripping. And he has more going on than just being a gun instructor. The other part of his story was also fascinating.
This book is much sexier than anything this author has ever written before. And there were definitely lots of interesting things happening.
I really enjoyed this book. This book is really sexy. It is fun, but it is also serious. If you enjoy the New Adult genre then this book is a must read. I am very happy that I read it.

Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors and when I heard she had written a New Adult novel, that was reworked as standalone for which she was looking for reviewers I jumped at the chance to review it. So yes I wanted to read this mostly because Kelley Armstrong wrote it, but I also was intrigued by the premise and was curious how she would write this genre. I have to say it is different for her usual books, there's more focus on the romance and the sex and more details to the sex. On the other hand it's also a typical Armstrong book in certain ways and there are scenes or parts where you really see her writing style shining through. So it's more a familiar author writing something slightly different, which was fun. And I hope she might consider writing more books like this.
Okay back to the book. Undone is a New Adult Romance book with a bit of suspense added in. Jess is getting stalked by her ex boyfriend and she has a sexy gun lesson teacher she's crushing on. Declan is the gun teacher Jess is crushing on. He is trying to get custody of his younger bother and he has had a bit of a difficult past. The story was nicely focused on the romance on one side and the suspense element on the other side. I really enjoyed this book and got easily sucked into the book due to the familiar writing style. The book had a nice pace and once I was reading I just wanted to keep reading and easily read a chapter or two more than I planned.
I also was curious how the whole situation with jess her ex would get resolved and then something else happens as well which added some extra trouble for Jess. There's also a scene that made me very frustrated and afraid for Jess with how things went and the direction they went in and I wasn't sure how they would get out of this. I did like how the situation with the ex stalker got solved at the end of the book, it's the type of scene where you don't get the inner thoughts of the characters so you're surprised with what happened. I did think the ending was slightly rushed and a few plot lines where left open, there's hinted at what will happen next, but I would've liked a chapter or two more where we actually see things through.
Jess and Declan are both great characters, even with the shorter length of the book I felt like I got a feel for them. We get a feel for their personality, their troubles and their past. It was quite nicely done. I liked how jess had this interesting combination of personality, she was smart and studied up on everything, but she also has confidence, can take care of herself and goes after what she wants (Declan in this case). I also appreciated how Jess did her best to handle the situation with her ex in a mostly smart way, although she does make some errors in judgment, but she realizes that herself as well. Declan has had a tough childhood and he wants to get custody of his younger brother which makes him go back to cage fighting to get a lot of money fast. He doesn't believe smart Jess would be interested in someone like him. We get chapters from both Jess and Declan their point of view, which I liked and worked well for this book so we get to know both characters well and see their point of view.
These two have some great chemistry and banter. When the book starts they already know each other and we don't get to see that first part of their relationship develop, but it did work out nicely and we see how they go from friends/ acquaintances to slowly more. I liked how the romance was handled. They both had a playful side and had some nice banter going on, but they also had some insecurities and issues to talk through. There was no drama for the sake of drama and they actually talked things through which I liked. There are some sex scenes, but I thought they were well written and fit the tone of the book. I also liked how these two paid attention to each other and what they liked.
To summarize: I really enjoyed this book! It's a bit different from Kelley Armstrong her normal books, mostly there is more focus on the romance and some more detailed sex. It is still a typical Kelley Armstrong novel in other parts, so fans of this author and the New Adult Romance genre will probably enjoy this one. There is focus on the romance and there's a bit of a suspense plot line as well with Jess her stalker ex. It's a nice mix of some difficult topics and romance. I enjoyed reading this book and seeing things develop. I did think the ending was slightly rushed and a few plot liens could've been wrapped up a bit better. I like the two main characters and I felt like we got a good feel for their personalities, past and troubles. They also have some good chemistry together and fun banter. I liked these two together. All in all this was a great read and I got easily sucked into the story!

What I Loved
I obviously love everything Kelley Armstrong writes but this book only made me love her even more. I knew she was great at writing romance (and she did warn us that this book was a lot steamier than everything she’s written so far) but this went above and beyond. I loved the romance in this book. I thought it was cute but also incredibly steamy, which I didn’t mind at all. I don’t often read romance books but I couldn’t help loving this one.
I thought the characters were well developed for a novel this short. We knew enough about them to form a connection with them and I was shipping the romance pretty hard. I loved Declan as a love interest! I loved how hard he was working to come up with some extra money to help his brother. I also loved that while he seemed like a violent guy, he didn’t enjoy doing what he had to do to get this money. I also thought it was adorable how both Declan and Jess thought they wouldn’t get anywhere with each other. It was a fun romance to read about that’s for sure.
The best part of this book is that it’s not just a romance. There’s a little bit of a thriller in there too which is what really kept me interested while I was reading. I thought that the mix of thriller and romance was done very well which I find Kelley is always good at doing.
What I Didn't Like
My one and only minor complaint was that this book wasn’t long enough! I could have used a lot more pages but it was still good for the length that it was. I’m hoping Kelley writes similar books in the future.
Who I'd Recommend To:
I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a steamy new adult book this summer! It was a great way to kick off my summer reading and the only bad thing about it was that it’s going to be hard for other books to come up to this level. I highly recommend this book!

Mauvais mauvais mauvais ! Il est bourré de clichés et de retournements de situations rocambolesques... Des gamins avec des problèmes psychologiques, financiers et autres.. (il y en a tellement que je ne les listerai pas).. L'auteure suit clairement un schéma (ou plan de route)... De temps en temps son talent (ou sa vraie profession d'auteure) reprends le dessus avec quelques bonnes idées mais elles sont très vite évacuées par le fait qu'il faille mettre du sexe à gogo ! Une bouse... Du Na forcément et je déteste le NA!! Malheureusement écrit par une de mes auteures préférées... Kelley Armstrong 😔Allez Kelley, retournes aux vraies et bonnes histoires!!!

When I saw that Kelley Armstrong had posted that she was going to be releasing UNDONE, her first contemporary book in the New Adult genre, I jumped at the chance to read it. I'm a huge Kelley fan and I'm always interested in seeing what she comes up with next, and I was extremely happy and satisfied with UNDONE!
UNDONE is a little bit different from Kelley's previous books. She's written it under the penname "Katey Wolfe" so that fans won't be surprised that it's so different than her other books. It's her first contemporary, her first new adult, and definitely the most explicit of her books. While her other books have sex, and quite a few of them have even more sex than UNDONE does, UNDONE is a lot more detailed...there's definitely no fade-to-black or vague detail here. It may be a little different than her other books, but I think Kelley has done a splendid job. I was completely wrapped up in Jess and Declan's story, and I was one-hundred percent invested in their relationship...loved it!
Even though the genre is different, there are still parts of UNDONE that make it quintessentially a Kelley book. If you're a Kelley Armstrong fan, you've likely come to love her strong, snarky and smart female leads, so you'll definitely enjoy Jess. She's as smart as they come, and while she is relatively naive in some ways, she is definitely prepared to take care of herself. She does tend to underestimate herself a bit, but she's quick to learn and to admit she's wrong, and I really loved her as a character. Kelley also writes some of the sexiest leading men, too, and Declan is no exception. He's strong, yet sweet and determined to protect Jess...he's also incredibly sexy. ;) One of the best parts...these two actually communicate about things!! They might overreact at times, but they actually use their heads...and their words, which is something I absolutely LOVE to see in romances! :D
The story itself is super fast-paced, and I didn't want to put down, so I just flew right through it. It's a pretty dramatic story with a stalker ex-boyfriend, cage-fighting, and a bit of mystery all thrown in, but the budding romance is really what's at the centre of the story, and I definitely loved every moment of it!
I'd recommend this one to contemporary fans who like their romances with a bit of heat, and I really do think that Kelley Armstrong fans will love it...just don't expect werewolves or other paranormal bits because you won't find them here. :P

Well, well, Ms. Armstrong--way to embrace a challenge! I have to say that Kelley Armstrong and New Adult is not a combination I ever thought I'd see, but she certainly went for it. How drunk did we get with my NA drinking game? Tattooed male lead--shot! (though it was relatively understated) MMA fighting--shot! Punches thrown with the "romantic rival"--shot! Went to jail--shot! (I'm counting it, even if it was campus police--the implication was that they were taking him to the city jail after, so close enough.) Abusive ex-boyfriend--shot! Unprotected sex--shot! (ok, technically it wasn't completely unprotected, but he didn't know that at the time.)
So, plenty of the now standard stereotypes were checked off, including much more graphic adult content than she usually writes, but it still felt to me like the quality of the writing was higher than what you usually see in NA, though I couldn't pinpoint why, exactly. Not as much cliched dialogue, maybe? Not as much repetition of whatever shame spiral the leads decide to focus on internally? Not as much foul language in casual use? Not sure, but it just generally felt less amateurish than most NA feels--maybe it's just the relative maturity of the author influencing the style, since I think most NA authors seem to be in their twenties/early thirties, and their writing quality doesn't seem to improve much no matter how many books they publish, so I guess it's just a style thing. Now, all that is not to say that the story was particularly original, and the ending was extremely rushed. But the characters were quite likeable, and it was a fun, quick read with a relatively low level of histrionics. All in all, an interesting experiment.

Avete presente quegli autori che rimangono nel cuore? A me è successo con Kelley Armstrong, Bitten credo sia uno dei libri paranormal più belli che abbia letto. Ho proprio amato lo stile dell'autrice quindi quando ho visto questa cover (tra l'altro molto bella) ho subito voluto il libro, senza neanche leggerne la trama. Non avevo capito nemmeno che fosse un romance e non un paranormal.
La storia racconta di Jesse, studentessa nerd di microbiologia e Declan, proprietario di un tiro a segno, con la passione per la boxe. Lei ricca di famiglia, lui che cerca di farsi strada. Jess poi è perseguitata dal suo ex, Chandler, che non accetta la fine della loro storia. Tra una lezione per imparare a sparare e il proporsi come guardia del corpo nascerà qualcosa?
Questo è proprio un romance, dai toni accesi, classico. Lei è bella, semplice, umile, lui buono e che cerca una vita migliore per il fratello, anche accettando incontri in gabbia. E poi il cattivo, ricco e presuntuoso ma non troppo sveglio.
La struttura ha tutti gli elementi tipici e i personaggi rientrano in categorie che noi lettrici rosa ben conosciamo. La trama è avvincente e il libro si legge in un lampo.
Per chi ha voglia di sospirare e sognare un po' è proprio l'ideale.
Però non sono del tutto soddisfatta. Ho trovato eccessivamente stereotipati i personaggi.

La storia racconta di Jesse, studentessa nerd di microbiologia e Declan, proprietario di un tiro a segno, con la passione per la boxe. Lei ricca di famiglia, lui che cerca di farsi strada. Jess poi è perseguitata dal suo ex, Chandler, che non accetta la fine della loro storia. Tra una lezione per imparare a sparare e il proporsi come guardia del corpo nascerà qualcosa?
Questo è proprio un romance, dai toni accesi, classico. Lei è bella, semplice, umile, lui buono e che cerca una vita migliore per il fratello, anche accettando incontri in gabbia. E poi il cattivo, ricco e presuntuoso ma non troppo sveglio.
La struttura ha tutti gli elementi tipici e i personaggi rientrano in categorie che noi lettrici rosa ben conosciamo. La trama è avvincente e il libro si legge in un lampo.
Per chi ha voglia di sospirare e sognare un po' è proprio l'ideale.
Però non sono del tutto soddisfatta. Ho trovato eccessivamente stereotipati i personaggi.

I wasn't sure at first if this was a book that i would like, I am partial to fantasy with a side of romance, not full on romance but this story was GREAT.
It was fast paced, hot and left you wanting more anytime I put it down.

Lettori, benvenuti al Review Party dedicato al nuovo romanzo della collana Triskell Romance, Undone, un libro scritto da Katey Wolfe ed edito da Triskell Edizioni. Appassionante ed intrigante, la storia d’amore tra Jess e Declan non potrà lasciarvi indifferenti, siete pronti a partire per questo viaggio dalle tinte rosa?
Quello di cui volevo discutere è in realtà attinente alla situazione, Jess. So che non vuoi prendere altre lezioni di tiro e non insisterò. Nessuno che non è a proprio agio con una pistola dovrebbe mai usarne una. Tu non sembravi per niente a disagio, ma…
Jess è una studentessa universitaria, vive in un piccolo ma grazioso appartamento nel Campus, che condivideva con la migliore amica Sam, prima che lei si trasferisse per proseguire gli studi altrove. Il padre della ragazza, un famoso chirurgo plastico, sovvenziona a pieno gli studi credendo che la figlia voglia proseguire la sua strada. Jess invece desidera fortemente frequentare un altro corso. Nel frattempo la sua vita al Campus scorre tranquilla, anche troppo per una ragazza di 21 anni, Jess è in cerca di divertimento e il suo passatempo sono le lezioni al poligono di tiro di Declan. La ragazza si è buttata sulle pistole così per gioco, in realtà perché le era stata offerta una prova omaggio e ha sperimentato visto quanto fosse attraente l’insegnante. La vita di Jess non è proprio così spensierata, da qualche mese è costretta a convivere con il fantasma, fin troppo consistente, del suo primo amore.
Aveva fatto la sua mossa in un impeto di coraggio. Se Declan si fosse limitato ad accettare la cosa e andare avanti, le sarebbe stata bene perché la sua era stata un’offerta libera, senza alcun tipo di impegno.
Jess subisce stalking dal suo ex ragazzo, e nonostante le denunce sporte alla polizia del campus, il criminale rimane impunito, perché? Perché si tratta di un ricco e viziato, figlio di una figura politica molto importante che nessuno vuole inimicarsi, e quando ci sono problemi vengono risolti con il denaro. Il ragazzo non si rassegna alla fine della relazione, è convinto che Jess sia di sua proprietà e non riesce d accettare un no come risposta, per questo motivo continua a perseguitarla. La ragazza cerca di non dare troppo peso alla situazione, resta comunque molto guardinga e preoccupata, ma allo stesso tempo rassegnata dal fatto che non sia così facile che il suo aguzzino paghi, inoltre crede che non si spingerebbe mai troppo in là. Nel frattempo il suo interesse per Declan è sempre più forte, e su consiglio della migliore amica, decide di buttarsi per trovare il momento giusto per approcciarlo, anche se crede che nn sia interessato a lei.
Allora aveva commesso una disattenzione. E poi altre. Non aveva potuto farci niente, tutto ciò che era stato in grado di pensare era “Jess mi sta guardando”. Lei sembrava sconvolta e se lui avesse potuto scendere dal ring in quel momento, l’avrebbe fatto. Avrebbe rinunciato all’incontro, ai soldi che aveva dato a Rene da scommettere su di lui. Avrebbe sopportato i fischi e i lazzi del pubblico.
Declan invece è davvero molto interessato a Jess, è da quando ha consegnato il bigliettino con le lezioni omaggio che spera di conoscere meglio la bellissima ragazza bionda e formosa che lo ha subito colpito. Il ragazzo, oltre che aver acquistato o quasi, il poligono di tiro, deve arrangiarsi per recuperare soldi da spedire all’arcigno patrigno che ha in custodia suo fratellino dopo la scomparsa della madre. Declan teme che se non gli procura il denaro suo fratellino finirà presto coinvolto in combattimenti tra adolescenti, proprio come accadde a lui, è per questo che ha deciso di proseguire gli incontri. Venne chiamato per uno di questi proprio quando inaspettatamente Jess si è presentata al poligono per una lezione extra, vestita molto sexy, non ha immaginato che fosse così bella per lui così le lasciò la propria pistola nel caso si fosse imbattuta nel suo ex, avrebbe avuto la possibilità di intimidirlo.
Aveva la mano perfetta da giocare contro di lui. Il fatto che copiasse agli esami. La polizia del campus poteva ignorare le accuse di molestie, ma l’ente preposto alla condotta degli studenti non avrebbe ignorato il fatto che imbrogliasse. Non se aveva le prove. Non se avesse minacciato di rendere la cosa pubblica.
Jess purtroppo quella sera fu aggredita da uno sconosciuto e, durante la colluttazione le partì un colpa di pistola. Spaventata e terrorizzata dalla conseguenze la ragazza avvisò i soccorsi con il cellulare dell’uomo e si rifugiò a casa. Da quella sera iniziò una situazione difficile e opprimente, i soprusi del suo ex furono sempre più molesti, inoltre aleggiava su di lei l’ombra di quello che successe quella notte. Declan era molto preoccupato per l’incolumità di Jess, così si offrì di farle da guardia del corpo per un prezzo molto vantaggioso. Iniziò in questo molto la loro strana convivenza, in cui i momenti divertenti e gli equivoci rendono la lettura piacevole ed accattivante. I due ragazzi si troveranno a fare i conti con un vero e proprio criminale che in principio sottovalutarono, non sarà facile per Jess ritrovare la serenità e finalmente buttarsi tra le braccia dell’amore, tra le braccia dell’uomo che le fa battere il cuore, che la apprezza e rispetta per la persona che é.
Se potessi stare con qualcuno, quel qualcuno saresti tu. Ma sta accadendo qualcosa nella mia vita e questo significa che non posso portarvi nessuno. Non sarebbe giusto e io voglio comportarmi bene con te. So di non averlo fatto e…
Undone mi è piaciuto davvero moltissimo, un romance appassionante, intrigante e davvero molto sexy! Entrambi i protagonisti mi sono piaciuti moltissimo, sono proprio simpatici e alla mano, si avvicinano molto a persona reali e non frutto della fantasia. Lo stile di scrittura dell’autrice sa incollarti alla pagine del romanzo. Una lettura veramente piacevole che consiglio a tutte le appassionate di romance!

Il libro di cui vi parlo, Undone, non ha avuto vita facile: quando uscì in America faceva parte di una serie che poi fu sospesa. L'autrice, per non abbandonare la storia, l’ha leggermente ampliata e ripubblicata come opera singola.
Se notate, come autrici vengono riportati due nomi, che in realtà sono la stessa persona: Katey Wolfe è in realtà lo pseudonimo con cui Kelley Armstrong ha pubblicato questo libro e che poi ha riproposto con l’aggiunta del suo vero nome, anche per distaccarsi dalle sue altre pubblicazioni.
L’autrice è già nota in Italia per le sue storie paranormal-fantasy, un genere completamente diverso rispetto a questo libro romance con qualche elemento thriller.
Nella storia si sente l’influenza del suo scrivere paranormal: lo si nota nel modo in cui descrive e racconta gli avvenimenti, rendendo il tutto un po' particolare, ma restando comunque scorrevole e piacevole.
La storia è classica da contemporary romance.
Jess è una studentessa di microbiologia che si è appena lasciata col suo ex, Chandler, un ragazzo tanto ricco quanto odioso, che l’ha tradita e che adesso la perseguita, perché la considera di sua proprietà, sembrando solo un gran bambino viziato (anche se molto pericoloso) a cui hanno tolto il giocattolo.
Jess, che aveva aspettato il college per concedersi, ha dato tutto a Chandeler, che invece non faceva altro che sminuirla, ma fortunatamente, grazie alla scoperta del suo tradimento, si allontana in tempo da quella relazione sbagliata.
Inoltre ha un rapporto conflittuale con i benestanti genitori (e la sorella), anche loro pretenziosi nei suoi confronti e già con dei progetti per lei: la vorrebbero chirurgo plastico come il padre, mentre lei desidera fare tutt’altro.
Un giorno, mentre gira per il campus, si imbatte nello stand di tiro dove vede per la prima volta Declan; attirata dal suo sorriso e dalla sua bellezza, prende il volantino e lui la invita a provare. Se all’inizio Jess pensa che non faccia per lei, quando decide di accettare, sotto suggerimento della sua amica - motivandola, usando come pretesto che non solo l’istruttore è carino ma anche che potrebbe essergli utile per difendersi dal suo ex -, decide di andare e rimane sorpresa: non pensava che sarebbe stato tanto piacevole.
Così sparare con la pistola diventa un modo per rilassarsi dallo stress che gli procura la sua famiglia (a cui deve dire che non segue i corsi per diventare chirurgo) e dall’ex che le dà il tormento.
Declan è il proprietario del club di tiro, ha un passato tormentato: dalla morte del padre da cui ha preso la passione per la boxe, ha convissuto con la madre e il patrigno violento e ubriacone, che lo ha costretto sin da giovane a combattere nelle gabbie, data la sua abilità a fare a pugni.
Appena ne ha avuto la possibilità se ne è andato di casa, ma da quando la madre è morta cerca di occuparsi del suo piccolo fratellastro, così decide di ritornare a combattere per fare più soldi e poter richiedere così l’affidamento del ragazzino.
Quando Jess ha bisogno di aiuto, Declan non ci pensa due volte a proporsi e a diventare la sua guardia del corpo.
Questo e la convivenza li avvicinerà sempre di più e, nonostante si desiderino a vicenda, pensano di non essere abbastanza l’uno per l’altra, creando così dei fraintendimenti che porteranno a complicare il loro rapporto.
Vari avvenimenti li porteranno ad affrontare delle situazioni pericolose e non, avvenimenti che li legheranno molto più di quanto potessero immaginare, con un crescendo di situazioni che molto spesso lasciano col fiato sospeso, incollando il lettore alle pagine.
In questo libro troviamo due protagonisti e due mondi diversi a confronto che, con le loro complicazioni e imperfezioni, si completano.
Declan, nonostante il suo passato che avrebbe potuto indurire il suo cuore, è un uomo molto gentile, dolce e corretto; cerca di rimediare ai suoi errori e cerca in tutti i modi di proteggere suo fratello e anche Jess.
Jess, invece, è una donna bella e anche intelligente, che spesso viene sottovalutata da tutti, ma che con l’andare del libro sorprende.
L’autrice inoltre ci parla di un tema delicato come lo stalking, mostrandolo per quel gesto insano che è e di come trasformi la persona che uno credeva di conoscere in un mostro.
Ce ne mostra tutta l’angoscia, usando un linguaggio non troppo artefatto, senza così appesantire la lettura.
Questo libro è stata una lettura molto interessante, non solo per la storia, ma anche per il modo di scrivere dell’autrice, che ho trovato intrigante, fluido e coinvolgente e perché al suo interno è presente anche del thriller, cosa che non mi aspettavo: durante la lettura (specialmente la notte), ammetto che mi ha angosciato, ma non riuscivo proprio a smettere di leggere.
Il ritmo del racconto è davvero serrato: appena si ha il tempo di riprendersi da un avvenimento, subito ne inizia un altro, facendo ritornare le palpitazioni che si erano appena sopite.
Un libro davvero bello, ma la storia presenta qualche difetto, a partire dai personaggi un po' stereotipati nel genere (ricco cattivo, povero buono e così via) e lo sviluppo della storia che si evolve molto in fretta, lasciando poco spazio ad approfondimenti sia psicologici dei personaggi che di trama; questo perché il racconto faceva parte di una serie e leggendo lo si nota.
Le scene di sesso sono davvero hot, anche se non esagerate: l’unica cosa che non mi è piaciuta al riguardo è che a volte erano un po' fuori luogo.
Per concludere, Undone è un buon libro, poteva dare di più ma alla fine l’ho davvero apprezzato e il mio voto è di 4 stelle.

Cosa è che vi fa scattare il click all'acquisto di un libro?
Se si tratta di un autore già letto che amo, sicuramente la lettura è assicurata.
Se l'autore non mi è noto, la prima cosa che attira la mia attenzione è la cover.
É il caso di Undone di Katey Wolfe ovvero Kelley Armstrong, autrice americana che approda in Italia grazie alla casa editrice Triskell.
La trama mi ha stuzzicata e quindi eccomi qua a parlarvi di questo libro.
La protagonista femminile è Jess una studentessa di immunobiologia.
Lui è Declan istruttore di tiro all'interno del Campus.
Lei proviene da una famiglia ricchissima.
Lui orfano di padre, arrotonda facendo incontri clandestini di lotta.
Hanno una cosa in comune: una forte attrazione reciproca.
Jess non ha avuto molte esperienze, tutt'ora è alle prese con le insistenti avance dell'ex fidanzato che non vuole capire che deve lasciarla in pace.
Quindi le lezioni di Declan forniscono a Jess l'alibi per frequentarlo.
E finalmente si è decisa a farsi avanti. É stanca di essere la ragazza perfetta. Soprattutto ha voglia di mettersi in gioco e di sedurre Declan.
Ma proprio la sera in cui si decide, qualcosa cambia i piani e sarà costretta a rimandare tutto.
Una tentata aggressione da parte di uno sconosciuto porterà la bella studentessa a mettere in discussione ancora la sua vulnerabilità e le sue insicurezze.
Declan è l'uomo giusto per proteggerla.
Vi devo confessare che questa storia mi aveva proprio incuriosita ma la scrittura caotica dell'autrice mi ha confusa.
Leggendo questa storia ho avuto la sensazione che alla base vi fosse una buona idea ma è stata farcita di elementi che sono rimasti incompiuti o fuori posto.
Mi spiego meglio.

Quando la stessa sera incontra Declan, dalla conversazione è chiaro che entrambi conoscono già molte cose una dell'altro.
Speravo che poi ci fosse raccontato in seguito come a volte ci è capitato che la narrazione alternasse passato e presente e invece… nulla.
Mi è sembrato che mancasse una novella introduttiva.
L'aggressione iniziale l'ho trovata confusa e poco veritiera.
Probabilmente l'autrice ha pensato che ci saremmo dimenticate che Declan presta una pistola a Jess. Tra l'altro di proprietà del centro di tiro. La pistola nell'aggressione sparisce. Possibile che Declan non chieda più a Jess che fine abbia fatto quell'arma? Forse negli USA le armi si prestano come una borsetta fra amiche? Mah…
I genitori di Jess non sanno che l'adorata e perfetta figlia non ha intenzione di intraprendere la carriera di medico come vorrebbero loro. Infatti Jess frequenta un corso di immunobiologia e loro non lo sapranno mai? Alla fine del libro niente è stato svelato!
Le scene di sesso sono inserite in momenti poco opportuni o comunque sono tante e nella descrizione sembra di essere in un'altra dimensione.

Probabilmente l'autrice ha pensato che ci saremmo dimenticate che Declan presta una pistola a Jess. Tra l'altro di proprietà del centro di tiro. La pistola nell'aggressione sparisce. Possibile che Declan non chieda più a Jess che fine abbia fatto quell'arma? Forse negli USA le armi si prestano come una borsetta fra amiche? Mah…
I genitori di Jess non sanno che l'adorata e perfetta figlia non ha intenzione di intraprendere la carriera di medico come vorrebbero loro. Infatti Jess frequenta un corso di immunobiologia e loro non lo sapranno mai? Alla fine del libro niente è stato svelato!Le scene di sesso sono inserite in momenti poco opportuni o comunque sono tante e nella descrizione sembra di essere in un'altra dimensione.

Alcune mie amiche mi hanno parlato molto bene di Kelley Armstrong come scrittrice di contemporary fantastica e quando ho visto l'anteprima della Triskell ero molto curiosa di leggerla in quello che credevo fosse un 4 mani, invece ho scoperto che Katey Wolf è lo pseudonimo scelto da questa talentuosa autrice per differenziare questo libro dai suoi soliti romanzi perché questo è destinato al solo pubblico adulto differente dal suo solito range.
Undone è un erotic suspense, una penna capace che dosa con sapienza eros, suspense, sentimenti e un sottofondo thriller che ti tiene costantemente sul filo del rasoio con peperoncino e tensione.
Jess è una ragazza tranquilla, studentessa modello, ragazza "pulita" di buona famiglia, la classica brava ragazza che si sarebbe felici di prenotare alla propria famiglia. Sembra perfetta. In realtà la sua pelle le va stretta, una famiglia che la sminuisce e con aspettative ben chiare diverse dai suoi sogni, e un ex che invadente è essere gentili, stalker è la parola giusta.
Nonostante sia un romanzo chiaramente erotico ti porta a riflettere su più temi quello che mi ha colpito di più è proprio la questione stalker, spesso derisa, sottovalutata e molte volte la vittima diventa tale due volte: dallo stalker stesso che la perseguita, importuna a livello fisico e/o mentale, e da chi dovrebbe tutelarci ovvero la giustizia stessa attraverso le forze dell'ordine.

Le parole: stai esagerando, sei eccessiva, sei tu che dai messaggi sbagliati, la tua minigonna autorizza un porco a toccarti queste sono violenze al pari dello stalker, queste sono ferite che ci portano a essere sfiduciati verso la nostra società, che denota un forte misoginismo e che spesso porta chi dovrebbe proteggerci a sottovalutare il problema.
Leggere articoli di giornale o interviste di donne perseguitate un colpo al cuore anche perché spesso emerge il fatto che era stato denunciato lo stalking, che "la donna era stata ripetutamente a denunciare" e poi o preso sottogamba o non sufficientemente tutelate dalla giustizia ci si ritrova a leggere di tragedie.
E quando un romanzo seppur dal taglio corto, mood erotico, riesce a farti riflettere e a trasmetterti l'angoscia di questo argomento per me "ha già vinto" dimostra che con una buona penna si riesce anche ad avere un libro erotico che ti lascia qualcos'altro oltre alle mere scene spinte.
Narrato in prima persona con doppio pov attraverso gli occhi di Jess e quelli di Declan.
Declan è un giovane uomo che è dovuto crescere in fretta, buono, leale, tenace, pratica uno sport violento ma non lo è, si è semplicemente "ritrovato in acqua alta e ha dovuto imparare a nuotare", è un ragazzo serio che ha uno scopo benefico preciso nel suo immediato futuro: ottenere la custodia del suo fratellino. L'ho trovato dolcissimo e maschio mi è piaciuto moltissimo un ragazzo che spesso si sogna di ritrovarsi nella porta accanto.
Guardale le spalle. Prendersi cura di lei. Proteggerla.
Il taglio corto e l'argomento importante non ha permesso di andare bene a fondo in certe questioni e a livello psicologico lasciando il romanzo relativamente superficiale anche se molto gradevole.
Avrei letto volentieri ancora molte pagine della loro storia.
Consigliato a chi cerca un romanzo piccante ma che faccia riflettere!

Nel caso in cui dobbiate preparare un esame o portare a termine in breve tempo un progetto lavorativo, sconsiglio, ripeto, SCONSIGLIO la lettura di questo romanzo. Conseguenza: saprete meglio la storia di Jess e Declan invece che il manuale di fotogiornalismo.
Ora che il mio compito l'ho svolto e vi ho avvertite, vi posso solo dire di LEGGERLO.
Katey Wolfe (alias Kelley Armstrong) è l'autrice della serie Paranormal Romance “Women of the Otherworld” da cui è stata tratta la serie TV Bitten. Questo è il suo primo romanzo New Adult e posso solo dire che ci entra col botto anche se è leggermente diverso dai libri appartenenti a questo genere. Di solito, infatti, la tensione cresce piano piano, invece qui si parte subito con un livello di suspense che ti fa venire voglia di sapere quello che viene dopo.
Il romanzo è narrato da entrambi i punti di vista e in questo modo possiamo comprendere meglio le incomprensioni tra i due protagonisti (e credetemi, ce ne sono davvero tante, quindi grazie Katey).
Declan è un giovane uomo con un obiettivo: salvare il suo fratellino dalle grinfie del patrigno disposto a tutto per fare soldi. È forte, dolce, sexy e a volte un po' insicuro di se stesso (ma questo ce lo fa amare ancora di più). Combatte clandestinamente e gestisce un poligono di tiro ed è qui che incontra Jess.
Lei sembra la personificazione dello stereotipo dei romanzi di questo genere: è bellissima, anche se sa di non esserlo, è ricca, ed era fidanzata con il ragazzo più in vista del campus. A parte il fatto che è intelligente (ricordate le incomprensioni? Grazie al cielo lei capisce e non si comporta come una tredicenne con gli ormoni a mille), è disposta a rifiutare i soldi dei suoi genitori (anche se questo vuol dire trovarsi un lavoro, ahime) e il suo ex ragazzo è uno psicopatico (già, ma non il tipo psicopatico ma dolce. No no, psicopatico psicopatico). Ed è proprio quest'ultimo fatto che la porta a prendere lezioni al poligono di tiro, per riprendere il controllo della sua vita.
Uno dei temi che viene toccato, il principale e forse il più attuale di tutti, è lo stalking. Il clima di oppressione, di insicurezza, di costante pericolo che vive Jess lo viviamo anche noi.
A chi di noi donne non è mai capitato di attraversare un vicolo buio di notte per andare a casa o anche solo per recuperare l'auto. A chi di sera, da sola, non è mai capitato di incontrare un uomo o un gruppo di uomini e pregare che quello che stavi pensando nella tua testa fosse solo il frutto di troppi telegiornali ascoltati?
Questo senso di oppressione lo viviamo con Jess, ma per fortuna non è sola. Declan è disposto ad aiutarla e già qui ci siamo innamorate di lui.
Consiglio vivamente questo romanzo. La suspense è al punto giusto e Jess e Declan sono scoppiettanti quanto bastano.

Recensione in ANTEPRIMA
Per chi non lo sapesse Katey Wolfe è lo pseudonimo di Kelley Armstrong, autrice già conosciuta per la serie urban fantasy Women of Otherworld (Bitten e Stolen per capirci) da cui è stata tratta anche una serie TV; Undone è il suo debutto nel genere New Adult.
Un debutto niente male per l’autrice che già ho avuto modo di apprezzare nei sui precedenti lavori. Questo libro è leggermente diverso dagli altri romance che siamo soliti leggere: normalmente si ha una escalation di eventi che poi sbocciano in un lieto fine, in questo caso si può dire che si inizia ‘col botto’. La Armstrong fin dai primi capitoli è riuscita a creare un’atmosfera tesa ed angosciante degna dei migliori thriller, a mantenerla per tutto l’evolversi della vicenda e a ben miscelarla con la componente romance della storia.
Jess è una timida studentessa, molto intelligente che decide di prendere in mano le redini della sua vita per non lasciarsi più manipolare dagli altri e prendere lezioni di tiro per riaffermare la sua autonomia e identità, messe a dura prova da un ex un po’ psicopatico e molto figlio di papà, ricco e viziato.
Declan è un ragazzo dal passato travagliato che cerca di salvare il fratellino da uno squallido futuro. Per quanto sia un tipo navigato, la sua tendenza a sottovalutarsi tende a fargli fare la figura dell’imbranato. Il pensiero di Declan viene ben descritto nel corso della vicenda e tal volta si rasenta il tragicomico.
La storia viene raccontata a punti di vista alternati e questo fa sì che il lettore abbia un’ampia prospettiva sull’evolversi della situazione e di capire meglio i vari fraintendimenti fra i due protagonisti.
L’autrice è stata molto brava nel rendere la tensione di alcune scene, come il passaggio del pedinamento in un vicolo buio, che mi ha lasciato con il fiato sospeso e un’angoscia addosso degna di un film thriller. Questo stato di tensione è andato pian piano scemando fino al lieto fine conclusivo che forse è stato un po’ frettoloso rispetto al ritmo ben cadenzato della parte centrale della storia. Forse questa è l’unica pecca che ho potuto riscontrare in questo libro, avrei gradito un finale un po’ più “lungo” e meno aperto.
Nell’insieme Undone è una valida lettura che viaggia un po’ al difuori dei classici standard romance e dà al lettore una bella sferzata di adrenalina fin dalle prime pagine e riesce anche a strappargli molti sorrisi divertiti. Non mancano gli spunti di riflessione sulla condizione femminile all’interno della nostra società, ma non posso dire nulla di più per non spoilerare la storia. Non mi resta che augurarvi buona lettura.

Kelley can literally write my grocery list and I’d still fall in love with it. This story was a short, standalone romance NA novel which is very unlike Kelley’s normal writing (hence the pseudonym Katey Wolfe which I absolutely ADORE).
Undone didn’t have any paranormal aspects (sigh) but it did have a little bit of a murder mystery which was awesome (Rockton anyone?!) Also unlike Kelley, this book had A LOT of sex. Not only sex (because Kelley has been known to dabble quite well in that area in her adult novels - looking at you Clay and Elena) but quite graphic sex scenes which is slightly less like her. That being said, this is a new adult romance novel, and it lived up to that expectation; it was HOT. Side note but still very important: there were some signs of sexual assault in the beginning/middle which could be a trigger for some, so please read at your own risk!
I felt as though the ending was a bit short and rushed, and I would have loved to have seen more detail and plot added, but otherwise it was thoroughly enjoyable. Like I said, Kelley could write anything and I’d absolutely adore it, so there’s no surprise here that I’d enjoy this! I would recommend Kelley to just about anyone, but if you do plan on reading this, just beware, there is lots of mature content in here!

Sinceramente mi aspettavo un romanzo più ricco di colpi di scena, più movimentato. La trama mi aveva incuriosita parecchio e pensavo di leggere un bel romanzo, ma sono rimasta un po' delusa. L'idea è bella e geniale ma mal sviluppata. Accade tutto troppo in fretta e alcune scene sono surreali. Ma si legge bene,dopo la metà ti costringe a finire la lettura per sapere come continua. Le scene erotiche sono apprezzabili come alcune parti della storia, ma purtroppo non è scattata la scintilla che lo ha reso uno delle letture indimenticabili a cui purtroppo mi sto abituando.
Sono dispiaciuta non mi piace dare voti bassi ma purtroppo non posso dire che vale una valutazione molto positiva

Fantastic book. I love everything kelley writes, but this was unbelievable. I hope to see more "adult themed" books from her in the future. It just shows what a very talented author and what a range she can write from YA to adult and then to "ADULT". She is absolutely amazing........When Jess is being stalked by a psycho rich ex boyfriend who has power and influence all over can she figure out a way to get him to stop with the help of a very sexy gun club owner and potential new sex partner. This book had everything to keep a reader entranced. From sex to stalking this book was phenomenal.

The plot line left something to be desired, but the sex scenes were well written. I knew that it was written under a pseudonym because it had adult content, I was surprised to find that it meant the whole thing was basically erotica. Not half bad erotica either. Glad that this finally came out in paperback, as I was unwilling to do an ebook. Deals with feminism in a practical upfront manner and has several very good themes unrelated to the sex aspects of the text. Worth the read for that alone.

This isn't my typical genre, but I'm a huge Kelley Armstrong fan. There were elements I enjoyed, but the plot was rushed. The mystery/ tension was too easily resolved to really be compelling. It felt more like one of her short stories or novellas, but without any prior character development to carry it. Nonetheless, it was an easy and quick read on a distracted Saturday.

Utterly sexy sigh a female character who knows how to handle herself - what's not to love! I really enjoy Kelley Armstrong's work, but I sometimes found the conversations a little difficult to follow for who said what. Aside from that, I really enjoyed the book! Wish there was more.

If I didn’t go into this book knowing that it was written by Kelley Armstrong, I wouldn’t be able to tell. It was okay; not bad at all; but also not phenomenal. I would have much preferred the author’s other books of either the urban fantasy or mystery genres.
