The broad-shouldered Adonis standing on Stephanie Bryant’s front porch cannot fathom why the sassy beauty failed to evacuate along with the other residents of Cocoa Beach, but she has her reasons.
With a big promotion at stake, the approaching storm doesn’t figure into Stephanie’s plans any more than falling for the hunkiest cop in Florida.
But more than the landscape changes when a hurricane practically blows Florida’s newest resident into the arms of disillusioned cop Brett Lincoln. While the last thing he wants in his life is another self-centered woman, the keys to his emotional survival just might dangle from Stephanie’s perfectly sculpted nails.
Leigh Duncan is an Amazon best-selling author and a National Readers' Choice Award winner, the author of more than two dozen novels, novellas and short stories. However, the biggest thrill of her career--so far!--came when she saw her book, Journey Back to Christmas, featured on the Home and Family Show after Hallmark Publishing chose Journey to introduce its new line of romance novels. Her newest Hallmark Publishing release, A Simple Wedding, and her upcoming A Cottage Wedding (6/2/20) are the first of several books in Leigh's Heart's Landing series. These sweet, contemporary romances take place in a small town known as America's Top Wedding Destination, and each book centers on one couple who fall in love in Heart's Landing.
Read first chapter, skimmed next couple, threw in the towel. Heroine is moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida where the Realtor tells her "Hey, hurricanes never land here!" Never mind that Hurricane Arlene is approaching and while she's driving through town she obviously fails to notice 1) how deserted it is 2) people leaving in packed up cars or 3) houses with closed shutters or boarded up windows. No, Rocket Scientist Heroine is too busy ticked off at the cable guys for not showing up on time. Honey, they're cable guys. It would be more shocking if they DID show up on time. Anyway, then the hero, a cop, shows up - pegs the heroine as a "me me girl" because she's put together and wears designer clothes then proceeds to convince her to evacuate by slapping handcuffs on her.
And I was done. Two chapters and I dislike both of these people on sight.
Brett is the second book in the Honetown Heroes series by Leigh Duncan. I enjoyed this book so much more then the first one as I felt like the story was more fast pace and the sparks between the characters from the very beginning is what drew me to this book. I loved that Brett has a attraction to stephanie from the very beginning. I felt like throughtout the whole book destiney was trying to get them together and if they just would have listen to their hearts and not their heads and wouldn't have been so stubborn or hesitant of trying to be together. Their chemistry was very apparent from the very beginning. I can't wait to dive into the next book in this series.
Stephanie Bryant's new position with Space Tech has her moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida. Now she's aware there's a hurricane on it's way but according to the weather app on her phone, it's not going to make landfall.
Truly clueless to the danger, she sets to unpacking while waiting for the installers to arrive for her phone, internet and cable. The problem is two fold. First as she moved in, her home was boarded up and the Real Estate Agent convinced her she is not in a hurricane zone and would make arrangements to have the boards taken down. Second the home is in a mandatory evacuation zone and the evacuation order had been issued.
Brett Lincoln is making a final round before the storm hits when he sees boxes in front of a house. They hadn't been there before and there was a car in the driveway. Time for him to do his job and get the resident safely off the island.
Not a very auspicious beginning to a relationship but one that had me commiserating with Brett, the woman really didn't get it.
Helping a neighbor at the storm shelter, helping employees at her new office, and wondering if she's made the right choices are all part and parcel of this book.
Plenty of problems, lots of solutions, decisions, laughs, romance and questions as this book progresses from the storm to every day life in Florida.
Glimpses of Brett's other friends, on which this series is based, has me wanting the next book.
A chance meeting, undeniable attraction and the start of a new relationship! With the next book in the Hometown Heroes Series, we get Brett's story. He's a become a bit bitter about his outlook on people since becoming a cop and seeing all the issues in the world, but a fresh perspective from Stephanie's viewpoint has him rethinking his ways! This was a fun read ... fast paced and entertaining.
When Stephanie Bryant transfers to Cocoa Beach, Florida as part of a big promotion, she has no clue she's driving into town right in the middle of a big evacuation. Yes, the streets seemed fairly dead, but she's from Ohio, what does she know about storms and evacuating?
Police officer Brett Lincoln can't believe it when he sees her doing work around the house when everyone should already be out of the path of this storm. He figures out what's going on with her and gets her on her way towards the only shelter left with any space and figures he's done his good deed. When the town returns after the storm though, he just keeps running into her again and again ... and he has to admit, he's starting to like it!
Moving to Cocoa Beach, about to take on a job as Space Tech's Human Resource officer is just one step in Stephanie's climb to the top of the corporate ladder. The last thing she wants to think about is love, or hurricanes, but she gets both the night she moves into her Cocoa Beach condo. Enter Cocoa Beach policeman Brett Lincoln who, when he tries to explain this to the feisty brunette, that she has to evacuate, now, and cannot settle in for the night, can't get a word in edgewise for the first ten minutes. But there is definitely a spark between the two. and it seems fate is definitely at work as the two quickly move from combatants to friends, into a Relationship with one another. But, can they weather each others' foibles? Or will the end up tangled up in Hurricane Arlene's wreckage? You'll have to read to find out! If you like sweet romances, you will not be disappointed Leigh Duncan's The Officer’s Girl.
Romance is the last thing career-minded Stephanie Bryant wants when she takes the job as her company's director of human resources in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Her eyes are fixed firmly on occupying the CEO's office.
That is, they are until hunky cop Brett Lincoln shows up to tell her she has to evacuate almost the moment she arrives to escape the hurricane bearing down on the coast. He takes her breath away until she decides he's just a good-time Charlie who will never put her first.
As for Brett, he's not interested in another girl who cares more about her work than her heart. But there's something about Stephanie that makes him want to protect her. And maybe, just maybe, she's The One.
Leigh Duncan's debut is a sweet story about seeing past first impressions and mistaking what you think you want for what you really need.
Hero's a cop, heroine's from the midwest, newly moved to coastal Florida as a hurricane's coming in. She's merrily unpacking while getting mad that the cable guys haven't shown up, and he's checking to make sure the barrier island is evacuated as ordered. Hey, her Realtor promised that hurricanes never come ashore in that town.
He convinces her it's time to leave, and believes she's a "me-me" girl, because of what she packs. She thinks he's hot, but she's only in Florida for a year, so she's only interested in a fling. She's the up and comer in her corporate job.
I really liked this story--the hurricane aftermath was very true to life (having lived through Ike) and the conflict between the hero and heroine real and important. I liked the way Duncan resolved things as well. This was a Good Read.
Brett ( The Hometown Heroes #2 ) By: Leigh Duncan Brett is book two in The Hometown Heroes Series . I really enjoyed Brett and Stephanie’s story. There was times I caught myself laughing . The story flows smoothly and the characters well developed. Brett is a cop and loves his job. Stephanie has just moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida to take over a new job . There is a hurricane and evacuation orders has been put out. There is attraction between these two right from the start. This is a sweet romance and fast to read. Can Brett get Stephanie to evacuate her home on her first day? I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
BRETT by Leigh Duncan Hometown Heroes 2. June 15 Working with Space Tech for a year in Florida, giving her a beach rental to live in. Windows boarded because of a hurricane brewing off shore. Surprised when she meets a police officer at the door, asking if she was on her way out. No repairmen next week, a # 4 hurricane is coming. Pack something and go to a shelter. Why, I’m not homeless. You can tell she was new to Florida and wouldn’t want to be caught in it. Plot showing two young people with the realization of how close they came to losing one another. A good plot, seeing how they matured and found love. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Often a sweet romance will feature overly sweet characters and predictable plots. The Hometown Heroes series it's different. BRETT has both realistic conflict and characters that felt familiar yet fresh. The best thing about this book was how the hero, Brett, was a classic hero, there to save the day, but he didn't take away from the heroine's strength, intelligence, or heart. They seemed real, like neighbors in the small community, and I rooted for them as I read. I can't wait to read DAN.
If you want a nice romantic book that is a quick read, this one is it. Stephanie Bryant moves into Cocoa Beach, Florida, during evacuations for a hurricane. She's rushed off the island by a sexy police officer, Brett, against her wishes. This is the beginning of an up/down relationship as they fight their attraction and find what they really want from life. I received this book to read for the 2011 New England Reader's Choice Bean Pot Award.
This book is entertaining and certainly gives one the perspective of a person involved in evacuating from a hurricane. Doesn't sound like fun to me, but unexpected attraction leads to romance and a satisfying ending. The only reason for four stars is because I felt the story centered almost entirely around two people, and I like a little more involvement by others. Still another good read from Leigh Duncan, and I enjoyed the ARC for an honest review.
After I got through the hard-to-believe thought that hurricanes don't hit the barrier islands and someone would actually believe that, I finished reading Brett. Glad I stayed with it, as I did end up enjoying the story and the HEA. I'm going backwards to read book 1 and work from there!
Lipstick was like underwear, it didn't take much....
Hmmm, I was a little unsure about Brett in the first half of this book, he seemed a little too happy to let others dictate to him and override his feelings. But I can happily say he won me over in the second half when he came to his senses! Stephanie is a little like a whirlwind and I think most people will instantly either love or hate her...I loved her, she is not perfect, she is defensive and a little disorganized but she has a heart of gold and is determined. Watching Brett and Stephanie navigate through the minefield of emotions and 'socially acceptable' behaviours had me chuckling. This is very different from book one in the series, but just as good. I read this on Kindle Unlimited and I look forward to the rest of the series.
It took me almost to the end of the book to almost like Stephanie. I didn't care for her self absorbed all about me attitude. The story is great just that Stephanie was the wrong character for this book. Brett is one hunky cop and prefect for the book: but should have found another woman.
