I love to travel. I especially love to snorkel, and I want to learn how to scuba dive. I first snorkeled in Xel-Ha on the Riveria Maya in Mexico. It took me a little while to get the hang of it, but once I did, it was hard to get me out of the water to do something else. The clear blue water of the Caribbean was made for snorkeling and diving.
Well, this book is more about scuba diving than snorkeling, but it’s not JUST for divers. The author mentions you can stay on land or on the boat visiting these stunning places and have just as much fun. The pictures inside are as glorious as you’d imagine from National Geographic. Rich colors, large, full page photos; this is truly the perfect coffee table book and conversational piece. Not only that, it made me feel wanderlust to visit all these places. In fact, I started a list already! It’s an absolutely gorgeous book! Talk about a bucket list for travel!
Overall, if you are looking for the perfect gift for a friend who has the travel bug, or one who likes to dive or snorkel, this book is a gem of a find!
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
A hundred dives is a lot of not-ground to cover, and many of the entries here only get a few paragraphs and a picture. The most interesting sites get several pages, though, and all the photos are spectacular.
It's been years since I've gone diving, and I doubt I'll ever get to any of these locations. But at least I can marvel at the endless variety of life in the ocean, and how we still know so little about what's out there.
It's interesting book. Showing some of the locations which can make diving a better experience. The illustrated pictures give better view of diving especially in the oceans. Nice experience, in case, I want to try scuba diving.

All the diving info was top notch, and I will 100% be consulting with this book before every holiday I go on from now on. For that alone I want to give the book 5/5. I do just have doubts about a couple of mentions in the “Diver Conservation” and “Diver Resources” sections. These are not things I would say are definitely incorrect but they are debatable and things that I can’t overlook, so for this reason I gave it 4/5. However, as I said, the actual scuba info is really good and a really excellent resource to someone looking to dive abroad or even just someone who wants to learn about the diversity of diving to be found around the world. Would not hesitate to recommend to any diver of any level, fantastic piece of diving writing!! Definitely gives me itchy fins!!!
This book talked about 100 dives, mostly beginner or intermediate skill, but also some expert dives. They range from reef dives to wrecks, canyons, and caves. There were lovely photos--usually one per dive, but sometimes several for one area. Each suggested dive area was described plus it had information about what you'll see, water temperature, visibility, and depth.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through Amazon Vine.
National Geographic title is full of beautiful, high gloss pictures of the world underwater. The book is a highly researched guide to areas of the world that provide wonderful underwater adventures for scuba divers. The map at the beginning shows the world and is color coded for different levels of experience. Each entry tells details about the area including location, special circumstances, depth and temperature of the water, and what plants and fish that will be encountered.
The pictures are beautiful, however only the best sites get more than one page of text. There is a good range of the types of dives, split up into beginner, intermediate and advanced sections. A good book for a coffee table or collection.
This book is exactly what the title says, and with incredible photos to illustrate. No, I don't dive, but I would love to see these places! This book is the next-best thing to being there in person.
I loves the photography in this book! It makes me feel like I am right there exploring all those underwater treasures. I choose this book for the pictures, but I really enjoyed the short, informative narratives.
As a new NAUI Certified diver, it was wonderful to read this book and feel like I adventured all over the world without having to leave home. One day I hope to go to a few of these locations and it gave me a good place to start thinking about future travels!
Another great book I read before our cruise and our diving expedition in the Cayman Islands. I really enjoyed the layout of the information and the bulletin points. The photographs were absolutely breathtaking, really makes me want to get my diving license.
This book offers a one- or two-page description of each of 100 dives around the world. A good book to develop a diving bucket list, which is exactly what I did. Now to do it.
98% of our Earth’s biosphere is water, but more than 80% is unexplored. This beautiful book tantalizes one’s adventurous spirit, and explores the 100 best dive sites. What’s unique about this book is that the author took the effort to explain and catalogue the history of the sites, dive conditions, marine ecology, land formations and the migratory patterns of the sea creatures there, and ends the book with a chapter on marine conversation.
