Shadows in Time

Rate this book
Fourteen members of the National Time Standards Agency use recently developed and (well, almost) perfected technology to travel back in time to Dallas in 1963 to videotape the assassination of John F. Kennedy and prove once and for all who shot the President. Only thirteen members return to the present time. The team makes a dangerous return visit to 1963 to recover the missing crew member. They discover the issue of who shot the president to be a lot more complicated than they imagined, causing them to have to make a dangerous compound trip to the past to collect additional proof of a conspiracy. The team ends up being pursued by operatives from another government agency that does not wish them to succeed and who will stop at nothing to prevent the team from the National Time Standards Agency from making what they learn public.

3.5 stars - A fairly quick read, not bad but not great. It hits many of the tropes associated with time travel/conspiracy theory stories. The use of the NTSA as the holder of the keys to time travel is new, but the use of the CIA as the bad guys is overblown in these types of novels. There is an interesting take on the butterfly effect that I'll leave to the reader to find.

The concept of time travel is always a fascination. I am no exception where this is a possibility. The catalyst that must be there for it to take place is always an enigma. What happens once you get there and how you get back is the other consideration that, to me is always confounding. Whether it is scientific or magical, there is no doubt, in of itself the idea is mysterious and entertaining to contemplate.

Shadows in Time provides the scientific variety. Whether or not it is plausible, remains well placed in this novel. I was swept along with an acceptance of the method and once over that hurdle, the story is off and running. The path it takes is wide open for the possibility of a mix-up or failure of the system that provides mobility through time. There were times when I held my breath reading as fast as I could to find out if the trip would succeed. This is definitely a hair-raiser.

I am amazed at how close this brought the events that took place in Dallas when President Kennedy was assassinated. Once more I felt as if I was just learning about it and how the outrage seemed to spring forth over the loss everyone felt at that time.

I believe the story is written with a plausible explanation of how this could have happened and brings into play some of the speculations that came forth then. The author was very brave to get this all down in a novel and it even seems to put paid to the history in a satisfying ending. I liked the outcome and resolution.

This is an enjoyable and fascinating read. I am certain those who like history will like it as I did.

Great Un-put-downable, Superbly Detailed, Breathlessly Fast-paced Tale

For those that actually lived through the time period where this tale takes us, you will live it over again and wonder over the possibilities presented. You won't want to stop reading until it's over. For those who don't remember this time period or weren't born yet, this will still be a fascinating read! I can't help but speculate on how close to the truth this author comes and if we will ever know what truly happened and why!

Pretty decent book

As time travel books go, this one seemed to obey most of the "rules". As historical fiction about the JFK assassination it's premise seemed plausible. A quick read and fairly well written. Should interest both time travel readers and y

Interesting premise but moved too slow for me. I would have liked a lot more dialogue and action.
