Be careful where you share your secrets. You don’t know who’s listening.
Charlie Ray has a bit of a sleep disorder. She sleeps like the dead. When it’s time to get up, she’s up. But when she’s asleep, she’s completely unaware of the world.
It’s been a big joke to her family and friends for years. Sleepovers were wrought with pranks. She’s learned to laugh it off.
It’s never been a problem…until someone finds out and decides it’s something to have fun with.
Someone dark.
Someone dangerous.
When she is at her most vulnerable, they come out to play. What starts out seemingly harmless, escalates into a deadly game that Charlie will have to play to the very finish, no matter what or who is lost along the way.
BJ Hyman was born in Nashville, TN to Joe and Betty Story (yes, her maiden name is Betty Jo Story...how's that for someone born to write?).
She was first published as the winner of a poetry contest in her local paper in Effingham, IL at the age of 10 and the writing bug never left her. Since then she has had poetry and one short story published in varying anthologies.
She got a B.A. in Theater and studied Music in college because the arts and storytelling have always called to her. She worked in television and radio for over 7 years before spending another 7 as a school teacher of Music and Theater.
She's written 5 full-length screenplays, one play, and over 25 hour long episodic scripts for television. Day Zero is her first novel.
She currently lives in Columbus, MS with her Commercial Producer husband, Jim, three loving dogs (Wrigley, Serenity, and Sunny) that she calls her "doghters" (when you're a creative, you can make up your own words...see: Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky), and a 19 year old turtle named Melville.
Charlie sleeps like the dead. Waking her up is so hard, that she has to pay extra rent since no one wants to live next to her and her super loud alarms. But someone else knows about how deeply she sleeps and is taking advantage of it. After realizing someone has been coming in her apartment while she sleeps, she gets a security system with a camera. What she sees doesn’t answer any questions. Will she figure out who is after her before it’s too late?
This book had me guessing to the end. It was SO good! I’ve read everything of B.J. Hyman’s and have given them all 5 stars. Her books don’t disappoint!
Author BJ Hyman has managed to create a thriller that will have you turning pages without stopping once you start! I read it in a single day! (And, I am not normally a fast reader.) The story hits us in our most vulnerable places. What do we do if we end up on the radar of someone dangerous? And, worse, how even more terrifying for Charlie Ray, who is completely helpless and vulnerable while she sleeps! This is a nail-biting thriller that will have you jumping at every shadow and suspecting everyone except Charlie herself of being the stalker! I highly recommend it!
Did not like the writing style or care for the insane amount of characters. Skimmed through the book to figure out who the stalker was, see if it was worth powering through, and was not impressed
This was the first book I have read by BJ Hyman and I was not disappointed. She is a great writer and the story grabs you from the very beginning and takes you along for the ride. Sleep Tight is about a girl who sleeps so soundly she has no idea what is going on when she is asleep, nor does she know who is responsible for all the crazy things happening when she is asleep. The culprit was not who I thought it would be in the end and I thought I had it pretty much figured out. Great book, highly recommended, some serious edge of the seat moments, and I can't wait to read more by this author. Kudos to B.J. Hyman on this great read.
The idea of someone stalking you, not only while you go about your life, but while you sleep, is terrifying. Charlie sleep the sleep of the dead, so her stalker can do ANYTHING they want without her knowing. The story was well told with many twists and turns. It took me 3/4 of the book to figure out who the culprit was, but knowing still didn't ruin the story. Lots of action and suspects galore. Minimal grammar/usage errors. I would have liked to find out how Charlie finished the table she painted red, then blue... Good exciting story!
This is my own book, so I might be a wee bit biased.
I was inspired to write this because I have always slept so deeply that it made it extremely easy to pull pranks on me. My main character, Charlie, even slept through a tornado! ... That was actually ME. When my niece, Lauren, was born, I went and stayed a week with my sister, Cressy. During my stay, a tornado blew through and knocked down a tree in the front yard. I slept through it all. And I was within 20 feet of the tree that was tumbled. That's just ONE story about my legendary sleeping abilities.
I realized that a dangerous person with skills could do some real damage with information like that...and Sleep Tight was born.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and I hope you enjoy!!
