Rob Madden has a score to settle, and he is saving vengeance for maximum impact.
"Do you hear me, Rob? We know who killed your wife and daughters and where they are.”
Rob Madden, still holding the cell phone in his shaking hands, tried to grasp what DEA Special Agent Bonnie McCord had just said. Three years ago, his wife and two young daughters were brutally murdered by terrorists as payback for his Special Ops drone strikes on al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen.
For Madden, the call halted his plan to complete his doctorate in education and triggered a clandestine mission back to the dusty and dangerous oil fields of Yemen for revenge courtesy of the US Air Force. Saving Vengeance will have you on the edge of your seat as the unlikely Special Forces team navigates treacherous encounters and high-risk maneuvers to find and punish the killers.
Growing up in the oil fields of California, East and West Texas, John Witzel graduated from Louisiana Tech University and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force as a Navigator and served in various assignments to including as a volunteer in the Iranian Rescue Attempt in 1980. Appointed and served as the Director of the Strategic Air Command Airborne Command Post and later was assigned as commander of a United Nations Peacekeeper unit in Haiti. Witzel retired as a Lt. Colonel after 22 years of service. Following the service, he served as an accountant at a national bank and was subsequently asked to return to the military as a defense contractor. Witzel served for 14 years as a local school board member and is currently President of the Nebraska State Board of Education and served as President of the Board of Directors for the Sarpy Community YMCA.
Education includes degrees from Louisiana Tech U., Ball State U., and Bellevue U. He also earned a certificate from the Spanish Language Institute, Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Active member with the Nat’l School Board Association, Nebraska Association of School Boards, YMCA, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Bellevue U. Legacy Foundation, Offutt AFB Advisory Council, Lions Club, Shriners and the Nebraska Writer’s Guild.
A nationally noted author, Witzel has published two books, “Saving Tres Rios” and “Saving Vengeance,” about an Air Force Sergeant who retires and becomes a public-school teacher.
Rob has a hard road ahead of him . He has to live with the knowledge that it was his job which cost him the life of his wife and two daughters. Not an easy cross to bear and one that he is barely able to acknowledge. His survival depends on vengeance on those who planned and executed the attack and after a couple of years it is in his sights.
Rob has kept a low profile though observed throughout by interested parties on either side of the fence. Now with his recent covert operations, he is back in the limelight and there are parties on the other side who are also seeking revenge for loss of their own.
With the help of Special Operations and a supporting cast, Rob goes back into Yemen into an area of almost impossible terrain on his biggest operation yet.
Apart from the thread of revenge, this story is a polished account of how I presume a special operation would work giving in detail the procedure and manner in which such a dangerous journey is accomplished.
After the events of the last book, (Which I haven't read) Rob is sought by terrorists. The Powers That Be decide the best way to handle it is to send him to Yemen.
Thank you to author John Witzel for this Kindle copy of Saving Vengeance.
I liked it. The story picks up seamlessly from book 1 of the series, and walks the reader right into the upcoming book 3. Story, characters, scenery are all nicely done. I think the writing itself could use some smoothing out - conversations are often too robotic or canned, not sounding natural - but on the whole this is a good read.
"The Girl and Her Twin-Engine Otter" is a mixed bag to my liking. I certainly enjoyed reading it but I don't feel satisfied upon finished it. Nothing much is devoted to "the girl" and her engine. Despite the role of "the girl" to save the protagonist is vital to the plot development but her character is definitely underdeveloped.
The title and the cover of the book therefore are misleading. I thought the book would focus on "the girl" who was to assist Rob, the protagonist, in his clandestine mission for the government which he could use the opportunity to retaliate against the person who killed his family. But the plot development of "the girl" whose name is Kelly Carson is certainly NOT the main focus of the book. Besides, there is a subplot of another undercover agent, Bonnie McCord, which has absolute nothing to do with "the girl" and her "twin-engine otter." I could see the subplot would be the author's next book to the series. True, the few pages about how "the girl" Kelly used her skill of flying the engine to save Rob and his team were exciting, but the rest of the book had nothing much to do with Kelly. Regardless the reading experience was pleasant enough but I was disappointed anyhow. A pure entertaining kind of book which I think would make a great script for an action movie. But as a book, I wanted and was looking for more.
Thanks, Concierge Marketing Inc., for providing the e-gallery for my enjoyment via Netgallery. I might consider reading the author's first book about Rob's previous assignment and possibly will want to find out what will happen to Bonnie in the author's next book.
I want to thank John Witzel, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the eBook Kindle copy of Saving Vengeance ~ Rob Madden ~ Book that I won in the Giveaway.
Rob Madden retired from the military a couple of years ago when a drome operations didn't go as planned due to bad intel and he was blamed as the officer in charge. The terrorist then killed his wife and two daughters. This sets the background for Saving Vengeance.
Rob takes a new mission as a contractor and goes after the leader that ordered the deaths of his family. Most of the book is full of danger, help from the SAS British special forces and a daring female piolet for one of the local oil companies in Yemen. Mission accomplished with an exciting ending and a lead into the next book in the series. Saving Vengeance is an exciting military operation and a great book.
Rob has a chance to get back at the people who killed his wife and daughter.. I don't know if I missed anything cause I did not read the first book in this series. It was a good story with good plot twists. All and all I enjoyed it, but it did not demand my attention.
An enjoyable and thrilling read with jaw dropping plot. Sequential turn of events converted the essence of this book completely. Mystery lovers and action enthusiasts won't afford to miss this grasping read.
This was just ok for me. It has a lot of military lingo/witty banter dare I say “locker room talk” which cluttered up the story. There was storytelling but not much compelling the reader to be interested in the actual characters.
Another good plot with Rob Madden leading the way against terrorists. Fast read. The ending leads you into the next book in the series. This ex-special ops turned school teacher leads an exciting life. I rate this book a 5.0.
Madden is a former USAF special operator turned teacher, who receives an opportunity to kill the individual responsible for his family's death. Nicely paced action carries the reader through the book.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. This was my first book by this author. I found the book to be a fast paced action packed thriller. I would definitely recommend it too others.
Could not finish so it only gets three stars. I have not read any of the previous novels of the series and would not have started this one if I had. This actually could have been a good read if it had gone through some heavy editing but since it is self-published there was none. Update: When did the title change from "The Girl and her Twin Engine Otter"? Most unusual!
