All roads lead back to beachside music festival Summer Crush for another weekend of high waves, rock & roll, and the promise of summer romance. On any given day, Michael Brian doesn’t need to do much to hit the right notes with a girl, but there’s something about this day—and something about this girl—that’s got him out of tune. (A Taste of Summer, Six delos Reyes) Indie filmmaker Datu puts on his dusty event videographer hat for Summer Crush. But memories of a love he let slip away resurface from every corner of this surf town. Now what he thought would be an easy job just isn't so easy anymore. (Rushes, Tara Frejas) Corporate-highflyer-on-vacation Ringo has a question to which cookie bar boss woman Kris has the answer, if only they’d stop getting in each other’s way. (Ask Me Nicely, Jay E. Tria)
Jay E. Tria is inspired by daydreams, celebrity crushes, live music, K-dramas and J-doramas, and an incessant itch to go places. She writes contemporary romance and young adult, sometimes paranormal fantasy too. When not writing, she wishes she were, but sometimes it's hard.

Make My Wish Come True (a #romanceclass Christmas anthology) Promdi Heart: Hometown Love Stories Summer Crush (Beach. Love. Rock and Roll) Second Wave Summer (Summer Crush 2)
When I saw the sign up for Second Wave Summer, I immediately jumped at the chance. One because I really enjoyed its predecessor Summer Crush. Second, I've read and enjoyed all three authors' books before.
Second Wave Summer is a crossover sequel so to speak to Summer Crush, and even though they follow three new couples, it takes us back to the Summer Crush Music Festival in La Union. I've never been to La Union, but the authors did a wonderful job transporting me, the reader, there. From the festival vibe to the food and the music, Second Wave Summer gives you front-row seat to what a fun summer music festival would look and feel like.
The book introduces us to recurring characters from previous books by the same authors. Two of the stories, A Taste of Summer (Six de los Reyes) and Rushes (Tara Frejas) are essentially prequels while is a Ask Me Nicely (Jay E. Tria) is an extended epilogue of sorts for You Out of Nowhere couple Ringo & Kris.
A Taste of Summer gives us the start of Michael Brian's story. I've been waiting for his story since I've met him in Feels Like Summer, and from the looks of it, his heroine is going to bring him to his knees. I really don't have a lot of things to say except that it's going to be hilarious to watch Michael Brian fall head over heels in love. And I CANNOT wait to read it.
The second story is Rushes by Tara Frejas. This is probably my personal fave among the three because I like the second chance at love trope. You know, the whole thing where the guy messes up the best thing he has in his life and regrets, and now he has to make things right again—these types of stories never fails to interest me. And Rushes is like that to me. Datu, bless his poor heart, is just a ball of angst, and yeah, I'm interested in where his story is going.
The third story is a bit different than the first two. If you've read You Out of Nowhere, then you'll be familiar with Kris and Ringo. Ask Me Nicely finds Kris and Ringo at the transitional period of their relationship from where it left off in You Out of Nowhere. I liked how Jay explored these two characters basically wanting the same thing but are having a hard time communicating those wants to each other.
Second Chance Summer is another great addition to the #romanceclass lineup, and I'm looking forward to reading more from these authors and these characters in the future. Whether you're a seasoned reader of #romanceclass books or just starting out, I think you can't go wrong with this one.
I voluntarily reviewed this ARC provided by the authors for a blog tour.
Isn’t that the cutest, most summery book cover you’ve ever seen? That art! Those colors! So bright and pretty! Although my copy of this book is an e-ARC, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be getting me a physical copy as soon as I can.
I also adored how this book is essentially a teaser for longer, more in-depth books. It was like watching a Marvel movie – complete with an after-credits scene! (Don’t close the book once you get to the acknowledgements. Flip to the very last page! You’re welcome.) Not even the conflicts introduced in each of the individual stories are resolved, which, for me, was very cleverly done. They merely hint at the promise of what’s to come next, and leave you eager for more.
Summer is sweeter the second wave around! Okay, that was bad, but this book? Faaar from it! I really enjoyed the choices of characters that were put into focus—Michael Brian from Feels Like Summer, Datu from Like Nobody's Watching and Ringo of You Out of Nowhere—and how the stories were executed (complete, full of action and kilig, and ordered (emotions just kept rising). If you're having second thoughts about picking this up, aka what if it doesn't live up to the first?!, put those aside—the trio delivers it good again!
(Just two) of my favorite lines "Can I take you home now? I might have said. Can I take you home forever?"
"Because it has never worked out so well like this before, has never felt so true and right like this before, that the fear of messing up, opening up, making the wrong move and losing everything is even grander than before."
I had the time of my life attending one of La Union’s Summer Festival. Let me just say how exhausted I was after reading the book. Hahaha.
THE BOOK COVER. IT IS ADORABLE. I have been staring at it for a complete minute admiring the color, fruits laid on the banana leaf, everything! It’s lovely. The vibe it gives it spreads even in the confinement of my beachless room.
There were so many characters in here, yet the authors made me fall in love with them still. They made each individual; heartfelt easy to relate to and sympathize. The dynamics and chemistry of characters in are downright amazing. When they interact with each other surely will tug a smile on your face. The cross-over of the characters is something you would admire too.
It’s not all picture-perfect summer, there was an emotional whirlwind happening with these characters; we think we accept the love that we deserve, sometimes that we doubt it when you feel like you’re getting too much of it. You get scared, its only natural. Escaping that reality won’t do anything good than confronting it. Also putting yourself is a good thing once in awhile. Life may even grant us that second chances we deserve.
Thinking that I may have short exposure to the characters from here made me fell in love with just as easy, what more if I get to read the earlier works of the authors featuring these characters? I know.
i loved this! book 2 in the Summer Crush antho. i loved the crossovers!! with all my band peoples: Arabella, Trainman, NICO. The Shinta standee makes another cameo!
Seriously, I'd suggest reading the books before this. Read the three author's books with the bands (The Playlist series, Scandalized and Feels Like Summer and also You Out of Nowhere (which features Ringo and Kris), then Summer Crush, then this. You'd have a greater appreciation for the little easter eggs/inside jokes for sure :)
I definitely cackled a few times here. Franklin my sweet child. Always so funny. Ringo, still so impudent and in this one we got to know Datu (Pio's brother) a bit more. Of course i wanted so much more of these stories, but he authors did a really great job of teasing us for what i'm assuming will be longer books.
Each story was a nice snapshot of these characters' lives at the 2nd Summer Crush show. and lol yes the Summer Crush theme song is still playing for eternity at this festival.
Summer Crush is something I look forward to yearly!
I love that Six, Tara and Jay are able to make their universes and characters collide into this one fun and exciting series. I'm very much looking forward to more "Summer Crush" festivals to come in the next 5- 10 years! Haha
" “I like seeing your face before I fall asleep,” I returned. “Good. I moisturize.” " • I don't get to go to the beach as often as I like and this pandemic has made it even more impossible to travel to sandy shores so I did the next bext thing: Picked up a summery book and live vicariously through the characters! Haha! Second Wave Summer follows the previous anthology in putting characters we already love from separate romanceclass novella together in a beach music festival and set them up for romance! It was unintentional but I'm glad I already read the books these character appear from when I finally got to this book. Otherwise I would've felt so BITIN !! *not that I still want more of Michael Brian, though. LOL Perfect read for those missing concerts and music festivals, missing the beach and quick probinsya travels, and those who just need assurance (and kilig!) that there are still good things to be had in these uncertain times.
I really loved this mini anthology. It had age gap (where the heroine is older), second chance romance and an amazing meet cute. The stories were unique yet all connected which was really cool. A bunch of the characters were artists and/or actors which was cool. Might write a full review when back from my holiday.
I think I would have benefitted from reading the first collection and the fact that that impacted my thoughts on this one is entirely on me. To that end these were cute short stories - the third one was by far my favorite. I think I'd enjoy a longer book featuring that couple.
By the time the blog tour for Second Wave Summer was announced on Twitter, I had already bought an ebook of this short anthology via Amazon. Nonetheless, I still rushed to hop aboard the blog tour! Many thanks to the authors for the opportunity!
What I loved the most about this was its setting and how the setting was cleverly maximized. I haven’t gone to La Union in ages, but reading this book really made me feel like I was there, enjoying my own plate of delicious bagnet (yep, I’m more of a bagnet girl than a champorado fan, sorry), listening to the soothing sounds of waves kissing the shoreline, and enjoying the summer wind in my hair.
While I really enjoyed all the character crossovers (from Six de los Santos’ Sounds Like Summer, Jay E. Tria’s You Out of Nowhere, Tara Frejas’ Like Nobody’s Watching, and of course, their first anthology together, Summer Crush), I, at times, felt a bit overwhelmed and confused. Sometimes, as I read, it felt like I was missing something. Having said that, I believe that, had I read their respective books beforehand, I would have greatly appreciated this short anthology a whole lot more!
Nevertheless, with tons of endearing friendships and spectacularly vivid imagery, Second Wave Summer makes for a quick, delightfully fun, and highly addictive beach read that can get anyone immediately invested in its unique set of characters. I have no doubt that readers will frantically scramble to get their hands on the characters’ respective books because quite frankly, Second Wave Summer has left me incredibly curious and really hungry for more.
