The essay is accurate and gives an in depth view of the Indian Strategic Thought or the lack of it ,even in the limited pages as this. Tanham picked up signs and statements that are too visible but are ignored by the Indian academia and the policymakers. Even after more than twenty years when it was written, the essay give a picture that is still very useful to a student of Indian defence and strategy. The essay is very simple without going into the jargon of military theory and strategy which most scholars are prone to. This is indeed a cutting edge analysis devoid of any western prejudice or colonial outlook but of a mind that reflects objectivity and knowledge.
