Hybrid Heat #2

Under His Control

Rate this book
A jaded older shifter trying to be the alpha he isn’t collides with a cocky, young Dom…
Garth isn’t a well-liked member of his bear shifter pack. He’s got a sharp tongue and a deep-seated hatred of humans spawning from a traumatic experience years ago. Garth believes that a man his age should have his life figured out. He should be an alpha, he should find a mate to start a family with. Except, all of Garth’s nasty quips, shoves, and snarls are him trying to pretend to be that thing he is not. If he isn’t an alpha, what is he? Cassius, the youngest hybrid shifter to join the pack, is cocky, arrogant and all alpha. He also won’t stop getting under Garth’s skin, making him long for things he can’t have.

Cassius knows he doesn’t have the years or seniority in his pack but that’s fine, he doesn’t want to control a group of people. He longs for control over one man in particular. Cass isn’t sure how he is the only one to see how amazing Garth is, but he’s glad he is the only one to notice how talks of submission and spanking affect the shifter in a way that Cassius will do anything to explore. He’s obsessed with Garth—his mate—and knows that if he would simply give into his true nature as a submissive, Garth wouldn’t feel like he has to keep everyone away from him with his rudeness.

But attempting to get Garth to see past the difference in their years and understand he would be happiest under Cassius’s control will mean nothing if Cassius and the other hybrid bikers don’t discover who has been targeting shifters. All over the area, entire packs are being harmed by a strange new drug that has everyone on edge. Cassius and the rest of the hybrid bikers must find the people responsible for poisoning entire packs of shifters before they are the next ones targeted.

Under His Control is a 60k word Mpreg romance that contains an age gap relationship as well as some light to medium BDSM elements. It is the second book in the Hybrid Heat series and can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

AH! I LOVED this story! I love this series! It has so many things that just work for me - mpreg, mates, age difference, some kink, and a bit of role reversal as far as what's considered the "norm."

Garth isn't very well liked in his pack, and he's determined to be what he thinks an alpha "should" be like - in control, dominating, not caring, etc. It's going to take someone special to show him what he can really be and how to enjoy his life - and that's where Cassius comes in. Cassius knows what he wants, and he sees that in Garth. Despite their age gap (I want to say it's almost 20 years? He's 22 and Garth is 40 I believe) he sees so much hidden behind Garth's bravado and actions.

I love this series, it really hits all of my buttons. There is also a great plot with someone out to get shifter packs, and that was a nice mystery as well. Throughout it all, we have Cass and Garth's journey to love. I love that Cassius is so patient with Garth, knows how to approach him, and gets him to realize that Garth can be submissive but still strong, can be the one to get pregnant and still thrive. I loved that.

Can't wait for more of this series! I wonder if Cassius' friend Sibelius will get a story? Also loved getting to see more of Chuey!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my new favorite Kiki Burelli book... it was awesome! Especially since I went into this book pretty much thinking Garth was a top-notch A-hole and by the end I was loving him! Love the way this book progressed the overall story arc that was begun in book 1 and continues through book 3 so far. After writing the author I now know that more books will be forthcoming in this series and I CANNOT wait! I am really loving the cast of people she has created for this series and can't wait to see what two people get their story told next!

Garth first made an appearance in the bear series. He’s a bit of an a-hole, but he’s just unsettled. He’s seen a lot of his friends find mates, but hasn’t met the one. It also doesn’t help that he’s tired of pretending to be what he’s not. He thinks he should act like a good alpha, but secretly longs to be dominated.

When he meets his mate, Cass, a hybrid, he’s thrown for a loop. He’s also 15 years younger. Cass knows from the first day that Garth is his. He also gets increasingly frustrated when he’s constantly rejected.

Will Garth give Cass a chance to see how they could be and win his love, or will Cass force the issue?

I liked this. This takes place in the same world as her other shifter series’, so the world building is in place. The characterization is good, and it tells a good story.

4 stars. And I thought the first book was great (which it was, I'm not taking anything away from that) but this one blows the first book completely out of the water!

Kiki Burrelli is an author that I've been reading for a while now and she just always delivers. When it comes to M/M shifter romances she pretty much is the Queen and I will read whatever she writes. I think this series might just be her strongest to date. Everything about it just works. The characters are wonderful and complex, the side characters are ones that you meet in previous series but even if you haven't read those series you still get a good sense of who they are as people. The story for this book in particular was great and again just like how I felt with the first book, a lot deeper than I was expecting.

Garth was a mystery to me in the last book. I liked him despite him being a raging asshole but I didn't really know what to make of him overall. This book made all the sense of the world for his character and why he was so angry and bitter. He goes through wonderful self discovery and growth and just seeing him come to terms with who he is and stop trying to be what he thinks he should be for everyone else was so good. A lot of that does have to do with Cassius and their relationship but also just Garth having to really learn to let go of that fear of being judged for not being the alpha he thinks he should be. It's a wonderful transformation seeing him from how he started off when we first meet his character to the end of this book.

I honestly fell in love with Cassius from the moment he was introduced. Side note, let me just say that he is significantly younger than Garth and is also his alpha. God, I'm such trash for that trope. Younger alpha/older beta or omega. Sign me the fuck up. Please and thank you. Anyways, Cass has his own interesting back story as well and I love that even though he was so young the author didn't write him so immature. He was levelheaded and smart and he knew exactly what he wanted which I appreciated. He was the perfect counterpart for Garth and their relationship worked on so many levels.

The synopsis makes you think this is just BDSM smut, and there is plenty of that in here don't get me wrong, but there's more than that as well. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I remember Garth from the Bear series, and I remember not liking him very much. The only person he really let close to him after all the trouble with his then roommate, was Chuey. He was just always a jerk it seemed and didn’t seem to care what people thought about him. But in this book we learn the truth and it saddened me.
Garth has always tried to be alpha. He’s always tried to keep that dominate attitude and be the forceful alpha he’s supposed to be. But what no one knew, is he didn’t want to be an alpha. He wanted to submit. Not that he’d ever admit it. Especially to that young punk hybrid who seems to get his goat every time he’s near him. But what Garth doesn’t know, that Cass does, is Garth is Cass’s mate and also a Dom and he’s ready to show Garth what he really desires and how to really fly. But Garth is so caught up in how he looks to everyone else, that he’s losing what’s right in front of him. And it took a drastic act to show him, it wouldn’t take much to lose what is staring him right in the face. And Garth had to decide, was looking good in front of people more important than his mate?
I really felt bad for my opinion of Garth after reading this. I mean horrible. Everyone deserves a second chance and everyone deserves to be who they are meant to be. And trying to keep up appearances to keep people from making fun of him, is so wrong. But that’s what Garth felt like he had to do. And it broke my heart. He wanted so much more and something so different than what was expected of him and when it came out that Cass’s scent was all over him, the reaction proved his point. The wrong people were making fun of him and it made Cass see red.
What I hated though, was that it took someone dying in the way they did for it to get Garth’s attention that he needed Cass. He needed his mate. He needed what Cass could give him. Which no one else could. He just needed to see that just because he was older didn’t mean anything. It’s just a number. True love is true love. No matter the age, color, or anything.

Garth is not well liked in his bear pack. He has no love for humans due to a traumatic incident in his past. He always has wise cracks, which some might interpret as insulting and he is never friendly with anyone, including his pack mates. Garth is trying so hard to be the alpha he thinks he should be and that leaves him a little bitter. He can't truly be himself with his pack and that leaves him with a bad attitude. He feels that at his age he should have his life together but he doesn't know where to start.

Cassius is the newest and youngest member of the hybrid pack. He is all alpha but has no desire to lead the group of hybrids. He has one goal in mind and that is to dominate Garth. He is a trained Dom and he wants nothing more than Garth's submission. Cassius knows that Garth is a submissive but for some reason Garth won't admit to anyone, including himself. Cassius works tirelessly to make sure that Garth becomes the person he is meant to be, but more importantly what he wants to be. The task isn't any easy one. Garth can't get past their age difference and the fact he isn't ready to have the rest of the pack know that he isn't the alpha he was trying to be for so long.

The area is facing a new threat. There is a possible hate group out there that is poisoning entire packs and wiping them out. Both packs work together to try and find and eliminate this threat before their packs are taken out.

This was one book I was looking forward to. I wanted to so much to read Garth's story. I was happy to finally find out what Garth was all about. Reading this book made me see him in a whole new light. I now have a better understanding of Garth and I love him even more. I really enjoyed this book.

I received this book by the author for an honest opinion.
This was the book with the highly anticipated character of Garth who we've heard mentioned throughout the bears series and one I was looking forward to. As we know Garth is a member of the den and though tolerated he is not much liked due to his cantankerous personality and rubbing people up the wrong way. When Cassius meets Garth it's seeing him with another in an alley and though the aggressor he can tell Garth wants to be the one on his knees and Cassius is more then willing to help. With their relationship first being a battle of wills as Garth posters to be the one in charge as he doesn't want to let his guard down with the much younger man. But deep down Garth just wants someone to take charge care of him, even if he has to swallow down the truth that's its with cassius.
I really enjoyed the snarky quips flying between the two of these characters and the battle of personalities, cassius was more then enough for Garth. This book also had light bondage and a bit of a murder plot as shifters seem to be coming up dead. Really entertaining read with characters that I enjoyed reading about further and their complexity. Humorous in parts with a nice happy ending. Love it

Garth has finally gotten his book and I for one am very happy. Kiki Burrelli and little kinky side is showing so well.

Garth we have met is some of her others series. Garth has had a hard time coming into his own but who would have thought that all he needed was a Dominant hybrid shifter to show him what he was truly missing.

We first met Cassius in book one of this series "Under His Care". He was new to the town of Pineville but has quickly Vegas valued member of Ryder's pack and if the town itself.

Garth and Cassius had a rough start like all of our couples but with them we dealt with insecurity issues, age issues and just asshole issues from Garth. But Cassius being the Dom and the Alpha that he is, he know what his mate needed. The kinky sex is hot, and Garth's fantasies were sexy as hell. The Bdsm element was lite but it was still prevalent in the book.

I love where the plot for this series is going. I'm ready for more.

I had been hoping for Garth to get his own story and was not disappointed. The story has something for everyone, it’s complex, has a bit of mystery and suspense, shifters, romance, and love. The characters are intriguing and believable. I can’t wait to read what happens next.

I'm done with this series. It's apparent the author is going to continue down this road of D/s relationships. I'm not remotely interested in these types of relationships. I find them to be pretentious and boring. I skipped over most of the "scenes" in the book. However, I'm not done with this author. I started another of her series today. We'll see how this one goes.

Oh the joys of May-December love. There is something about the age difference that I just love. And this is an atypical approach in that it is our younger man who is the dominant. And it works really well here.

Under His Control (Hybrid Heat #2) has a lot of heat to it. The couple is not shy about how they feel toward one another. And the D/s is moderate here. While there is not a lot of pain play, there is some humiliation and a lot of power exchange. And it was so much fun watching Garth yield to Cassius. If there was more of that and more of the MC, I would have strongly preferred this book.

An underlying message of this book is what can happen to a person who denies who they really are. Garth clearly is unhappy forcing himself to play out a role and live a life that does not work for him. The process of change has some bumps to it, but eventually Cas and Garth find themselves in a better place. This felt very true to real life in which people make themselves miserable living how they think they should rather than exploring what they really need and want.

I am not sure if I’ll continue with the series since the elements that initially interested me most, MC and shifters, are so rarely utilized or discussed. While I enjoyed the two I’ve read so far, I might have to accept that this is not the series for me.

Available on KU.

Happy Reading!

Loved this story! I'm so glad I gave this author a try:-)

May/December stories are a favorite trope of mine, especially ones where the younger MC is more dominant than the older one, so this book was right up my alley. Throw in some shifters and destined mates and I couldn't be happier!

This book is very well-written, both with regards to character development and the different plots in the book. The pacing and dialogue are excellent and I really liked the secondary characters and what they brought to the overall world of the book.

Garth is not likeable at all, on the surface, and it's always a treat to have a seeming grouch meet that special someone that makes them feel loved and brings out their finer qualities. Cassius was able to do that for Garth, in an amazing way. Garth is so vulnerable, and Cassius is the only one who seems to get that. Loved that aspect of their story!

Garth and Cassius have great chemistry together, but at the same time it is also very much a love story! There's a lot more to the connection between Garth and Cassius than just "mate-driven" lust and sexual compatibility. Don't get me wrong, the steamier scenes are quite satisfactory in their own right ;-)

I'll have to re-read this one! Definitely a keeper :-)

Complex and steamy story with lots of action, Bears, Hybrids, dragons and so much more! I was hooked from page 1 and read it way to late last night just because i had to finish and my it was worth the read. So well done! Well written with characters that are strong yet vulnerable, fierce yet gentle as they struggle to find who is killing off groups of shifters. The cast of characters is varied and interesting, each with a back story and complex character.

i really enjoyed Garth and Cas together! They are both such intense characters and i loved how beautifully they fit together. I loved how Cas really saw Garth and how he always protected him, even from himself. Garth had a lot of growth in this story as he learned to accept himself and Cas. There is a delightful bonus chapter that i really enjoyed.

This book can be read as a stand alone, because i have not yet read Under His Care, however i will be reading it next. Ryder and Chuey were intriguing men and i want to know their story. I am looking forward to the next book about Thorne in Under His Command.

I really liked this story, as it mixed quite well light BDSM with D/s, May/December aspects (even though the "old" Garth was not even 40!), Mpreg and shifters and a good storyline. The murders and investigations were a plus and helped to give depth to the story besides the romantic aspects. In fact, I would say that Cass and Garth story is actually low on the romantic side at the beginning (besides the hot bed scenes) but by the end of the book, their connection was strong and well balanced. Given that I have not read the first book of the series, I had some trouble understanding the world where Cass is a hybrid and Garth "wanted to be an alpha" but then ended up being the one pregnant. There is never mention of omegas, like in other shifter stories, but only mates, all important side couples are in same-sex relationships and there are many side characters, so sometimes I was a little bit confused about who was paired with whom. An overall very enjoyable read.

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well this book was written. I found this book to be fascinating & intriguing, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The book is about two men (Cassius, a alpha & Dom) & (Garth, a surly & grumpy omega) and their journey to love and happiness. What you will find in this book is: various kinds of shifters, hybrids, drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, mystery, enemies, action, some humor, verbal conflict, friendship, attractions, determination, emotional conflict, kink, BDSM, romance, lust, passion, love and steamy scenes. The story-line and plot is well-thought out and written, it keeps the reader’s attention. The characters are well-developed with personalities, and moods suited to the situations they find themselves in. This is a well written Mpreg romance with a HEA and I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading this kind of book.

*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one elses*

Garth was always a bit of a mystery and I was damn curious to see how the author paired him off which is why I was so eager to read Garth’s story. The author didn't disappoint because this one completely blew me away.

No one sees Garth for the person he is inside but that changes when Cass makes an appearance. Cass is everything he desires but is afraid to want. Garth’s insecurities, vulnerability and his battle to accept himself were explored exceptionally well.

Cass was sexy and his Dom persona made him the perfect match for Garth.

These two guys had great chemistry - their sexy times were intense, explosive and so gawd damn hot.

Amazing story and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

This was a fun mpreg shifter book. Here we have Garth, a shifter closer to age 40 than 30, and Cass, a young and rich hybrid. And they are so good together! I really liked the dynamic between these two, with the younger Cass being a Dom and Garth fighting his desire to submit. The actual BDSM was light, with some spankings and a little bondage; more important was the power exchange between the two mates, and Garth becoming who he wants to be.

There's also a mystery happening through the book, with something killing shifters. While the villain was maybe a little obvious, it was still intense at times and provided some interesting plot points that moved the book along.

I'm looking forward to the next book and curious to see who it will be about. I'm hoping for Thorne!

We've met Garth in previous books and I wanted his story because I knew there had to be a reason for his grumpiness. The author tells his story in such an amazing way. Cassius is a young alpha that knows what he wants and goes after it. This book was well written and flowed so smooth. Once I started the story I couldn't put it down until I finished because I had to know the ending. The author put everything together so it flowed smoothly and made sense. I am looking forward to the next book. If you are a fan of mpreg shifter stories I recommend this book. If you haven't read the first book I recommend that too!

I love this book! It is beautifully written with amazing characters and I could not put it down. Garth's struggle to be himself is heart-breaking as he thinks he needs to be an alpha instead of the submissive he really is inside. His fear of what others in his pack will say if he shows his true nature keeps him from finding happiness with his mate. Cassius is young but he knows exactly what Garth needs to be happy and fulfilled. While they explore their relationship they also have to try to find out who is targeting other packs. The secondary characters are great and I love the ending. This story kept me engaged until the very end and I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Still really enjoying this series. In this book we have Garth, Chuey's bff from book one who's largely annoying to everyone around him. Not a very likable bear shifter. And then there's Cassius who just joined the gang in the last book after leaving the bad guy group. I know, I can't remember all the gang names, my bad. Anyways, Cassius is only 21 or 22 and Garth is pushing 40 and Garth really has a problem with that because he thinks he should be all Alpha-like but he really wants to be controlled. The dynamic between these two is super entertaining. I loved Cassius' bossy, uber-rich self. Very sexy. More drama and mystery in this one and there's just enough going to to keep things interesting. Definitely moving on to the next one soonish!

When I saw that Garth had his own book I knew I had to read it!

If you've read the Bear Brothers series or the first Hybrid Heat you know Garth is the black sheep of the bears who seems to be angry all the time! You learn his history in this book and what goes through his head to make him react the way he does.
Then Cassius comes around and takes control of the situation and Garth's heart. A happy ending for a grumpy bear and his dominant biker.

This was a really good book and enjoyed reading it! I recommend you give it a read especially after reading the other books in Kiki Burrelli's books.

WOW!! What a FANTABULOUS story!! Love the storyline, it captivated me right from the very beginning and I could not put my kindle down until the very end. Shows you that age really doesn't matter when it comes to love and that you should always be true to yourself if you want true happiness. Garth and Cassisus are wonderful characters with sizzling chemistry and who are pure perfection together. I really like how Cassius helps Garth to accept who he really is and to not be afraid to be himself around others. Great story, and the sex scenes are out of this world!

This is my first time reading Kiki Burrelli and this says it's book 2 in a series but the series itself must be a spin off series becuase I felt like I should have known all these different couples and it took away from my enjoyment. I def want to read the other again but maybe I'll read in publishing order for the full affect.

Anyways..my reason for picking up this book in the first place.. the Older Sub / Younger Dom situation was satisfying. Bonus points for the simple fact is was between a hybrid wolf shifter (Dom) and a bear shifter (Sub). Mates, Heats, knotting, mpreg, a dash of humiliation kink, possessive MC , and consent made this an enjoyable one for me.

Fantastic story.

OMG, it’s finally here.
I’ve been waiting to read Garth’s story since I read “Bearly Legal”.
And I was so happy. I like the dom/sub kink in the story but was not happy when I read th word SL*t in it. It just put me off.
But other than that it’s a great book with amazing plot, the character development is fantastic and the story has lots of drama, action, sweet and hot moments and plenty of romance. Oh, and cute babies, too. Plus we’ll meet and greet lots of the characters from other books.

Loved the story and enjoyed reading it

Hot and sweet

Cassius is too young, too dominant,... Too much of everything Garth ever had secretly wanted. Garth always wanted to be seen as a strong alpha... But he isnt. He is an Omega in his 30s who has secrets. Cassius is his destined mate but to accept that, Garth will need to consent and submit to his master.
Under His Control by Kiki Burrelli is the second book in The Hybrid Heat series. It is HOT with sexy BDSM elements mixed with sweet moments of dates love. I definitely recommend this book.

Garth and Cass

Ok. So this second book had more meat to the story. First, while the d/s relationship in the shifter world is still not my favorite combination, I think it’s just my preference. I loved seeing inside Garth’s messed up psyche, seeing him finally accepting of his desires. And how strong is Cass to be able to bring it out in Garth. The side of mystery was pretty interesting and helps keep the story moving forward. I really, really want to see more of the family aspect in mpreg books, not just having the kids then epilogue. A good read all in all.

Oh I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The best part, Garth kneeling for Cass in front of the pack. That was beautiful.

It takes a while for Garth to accept himself and what his body craves, so be prepared for him to fight tooth and nail. Especially when he’s around either pack. It will break your heart a little.

I seriously enjoyed the D/s relationship. I’d say this is light BDSM: power exchange, some spanking, some sensation play, some pain but nothing much.

Overall, one of my favorites in this long series.
