The Seasons of Healing #2

Bound By Brokenness

Rate this book
Since his wife’s tragic death, Matthias Mason has served as the only doctor in Bear Valley. When he ventures out on his spring circuit through the foothills, it’s obvious Death is on the prowl. With lives on the line, Matthias battles to stay one step ahead. But when Death comes looking for him, will Matthias face his own brokenness and allow God to heal the wounds festering in his heart?

While his sister is out on the circuit, assisting Doc, twelve-year-old Samuel Morgan sets out to prove he can be trusted to do what's right and that his penchant for stories is more than a pastime. When his best friend’s brother returns to Bear Valley married to a city girl and buys back the old family homestead, things don’t add up. Sam knows where there’s a secret there’s a story. But he's not prepared for how his well-intentioned decision to find the truth will affect everyone in Bear Valley.

In the continuation of this family saga, God shows Matthias and Samuel that healing begins with brokenness and some wounds only He can bind.

This story is a continuation of a series; definitely these need to be read in order. Dr. Matthias Mason is injured while treating the people in the mountain region where he lives and works; his young assistant steps out of her comfort zone to take care of things while he cannot. Meanwhile, 12-year-old Samuel is left on his own to manage a household, the vegetable garden, and his schoolwork -- and he finds himself embroiled in a bootlegging scandal while trying to protect a friend.
Some anachronistic dialogue got in the way of the historical-fiction experience.

This series has been wonderful to read. The characters are well thought out and easy to “get to know.” Forgiveness and trusting in God are major themes. The story twists and turns, keeping this reader’s interest. I look forward to book 3 in this series.

A really solid follow up to Surviving the Stillness.
In this new release we once again meet up with the beloved Morgans, Doc, and the sisters- as well as being introduced to new intriguing characters. The story held my attention and I eagerly read chapter after chapter.
I enjoyed witnessing the spiritual journey of the main characters. The story is written with a clean, clear approach and unfolded in a natural, believable manner. This is so important to me when reading Christian fiction. I need the story to be believable.
I look forward to future titles in this series and can’t wait to read the next heartfelt story from author Jessica White.
