After I became the druid justiciar for the central Texas area, I thought for sure I'd get a breather. All I wanted was a little time to lick my wounds after a long hard fight with a rogue wizard and his crew.
But like my Uncle Ed always said, wish in one hand and... well, you get the picture.
As it turns out, being the area's supernatural sheriff isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure, I get paid when I handle a problem for one of the factions--no complaints there. The problem is, it's been nothing but putting out fires for the fae and the other major players since I got stuck with this gig.
Like it or not, I'm working a job that concerns both the fae and the vamps, chasing down a supernatural terror like none I've ever seen. And hell if a wannabe monster hunter didn't get himself snatched by the very same creature that's been dropping bodies all over Austin.
Now I have to find the kid, save the fae and the local vampire coven from exposure, salvage my relationship with my girlfriend, and figure out what to do with my live-in ex who may or may not have a magically-induced mental illness.
I wonder, do druid enforcers get paid vacation time? Because I'm definitely going to need a sabbatical after I figure out this whole mess.
That is if I don't get eaten by a demon or a yōkai before I solve the case... in which case, at least I'll finally get some rest.

M.D. Massey describes himself as the prototypical INTJ. His eclectic background provides him with a rich tapestry of experiences to draw on when crafting fiction, as evidenced by the believable worlds and relatable characters he creates.
As a former Army combat medic (91B), professional martial arts instructor (Krav Maga, JKD, FMA), and women's self-defense instructor, he possesses a unique understanding of close combat, firearms, and criminal violence that few authors can match. This knowledge provides an element of realism to the Druidverse™ novels, setting them apart from other fantasy series.
Mr. Massey lives in the Texas Hill Country with his family and a huge American bulldog that keeps him company while he writes. When he's not in his office or at the local coffee shop writing, you can find him in his garage pummeling inanimate objects or knife-fighting with his friends.
We finally get a clued up on Belladonna's secret, Jesse is back - well sort of. This book explains how Colin ended up in Counteraction book 3 from the Them series, which I read before picking up Junkyard Druid. I can't wait for Druid Vengeance book 7 of the Junkyard Druid series.
McCool is back but is he better than ever. Colin may find himself alone..... But. He never stops!
I am a McCool and Massey fan. I did like the book it had some great fight scenes and quick, witty repartee. However. It seemed to me at least to be a filler book, the plot was lacking in areas. Yes the storyline was good and I'm not bashing the book. But it seemed the plot was lacking its normal greatness and fullness. I'm still looking forward to reading the next one. I will and have suggested this series to others. I just wish this book didn't leave me feeling so let down with Colin and his friends. Massey is still a favorite of mine and ill continue to read him.
This 6th book in M. D. Massey's Junkyard Druid books is a wild ride, indeed. Plenty of action, and suspense, along with all the magical mayhem one would expect of the author. The intensity is compelling and the story sucks you in, making the book hard to put down. Another excellent read! Colin McCool is a trouble magnet…and then some. Every time he thinks he's getting a handle on things, another disaster comes up and does it's best to smack him into oblivion. He's got girl problems in spades, what with his first love coming back and his current girlfriend showing up just in time to witness a prime example of one of Jessie's displays of lovey-dovey possessiveness. The Cold Iron Circle wants the eye, and will do anything to get it. And Colin's Hyde-side is really getting out of hand. To top it all off, the magical factions have appointed Colin as Judiciar for all of Austin. He's the equivalent of the local sheriff…the only one in town…which means every single creature in the Underworld that steps across the line becomes Colin's problem. Is Colin ready for this? Can he handle the monster mess his life is in, or will he go down fighting? And, just where is Derp?? Find out in "Druid Enforcer", by M. D. Massey.
At last! The sixth book in the "Colin McCool" series! I read continually until the finish. colin a usual is in deep trouble from all sides. A missing young friend puts him on a path that leads him right to the "Cold Iron Circle." His dead ex girlfriend now inhabits a dryads body in his Druids woodland and his girlfriend, Belladonna is jealous and angry with him, the circle is after him, young men are being kidnapped and killed, a ghost is after him, a demon enters his life and what the heck, a giant spider woman tried to rape and kill him. Violent, tense, full of angst and funny at times with a cliffhanger at the end, what could be better on a cloudy day than to snuggle town and enjoy the read.
Our young Colin is growing up slowly but surely. I was totally blown away by the goings on in the Druid Groove, can't wait for the next book to find out.

“It was funny how even the most terrifying monsters could be reduced to a sniveling heap once you took away their magic"
*****My Thoughts***** We had a quick release from the previous book to this one. Roughly three months. As much as I hate to say it, it shows. I adore the McCool series but for the average reader I feel there’s a lot in this one that’s going to either not be fully appreciated or fully go over the readers head. We get some good looks into a couple characters back stories that up until this point hadn’t really been addressed. Some loose ends get tied up and Colin is reminded that he still has a lot to learn. Again, Massey does a wonderful job sitting the supernatural world in our laps. I love the approach to constructs and fae world building in the urban settings. I did have a couple issues with moments that were, what I felt rather important, brought up only to be abandoned and mentioned briefly later in the story. Our fight scenes continue to be action packed. In this installment we are very specific about what types of fighting styles, moves and weapons are in use. Massey does do several forms of martial arts, as a fellow martial artist I had little issue following the context. However, someone who may not be as familiar with these environments may not be able to keep up with the scenes flow the way the author may have meant it. These minor issues aside Druid Enforcer makes beneficial progress to the series. I personally would rank this more a 4 to 4.5 rating. However, keeping the review unbiased and with the notations above I would put this in an average rank. Its good, but it’s not his best.
I have enjoyed this series of books and still do. For some reason, I found this book less interesting than some of the previous stories. It still has some interesting story parts and action sequences and there is plot development relevant to the entire series, but it somehow didn't hold my interest as well as previous entries. In any case, I still enjoyed it and will continue with the series when Massey comes out with book 7.
The Junkyard Druid series is very good. It is well written, the pacing is great, the world building is sweeping and the characters are well developed and credible, at least in general. Having said all that, this was probably my least favourite of the series so far, but don't let this put you off because most of this was on me and may not be a problem for you.
There are two things I'm not really fond of in this book. The first, is that it relates fairly strongly toward Japanese culture and anime, and I've never really been fond of either. Many people I know love these things but it just isn't for me so I wasn't really into this.
The second thing relates to the main character Colin. For much of the book he's pretty abrasive and aggressive which kind of put me off. I find it hard hard to relate to a main character when they are kind of being cruel and a bit heartless. There are good reasons for this, which are explained toward the end of the book and it is reasonable.
I enjoyed reading the book, but these flaws brought it down a bit for me. Again though, I stress that this is me and other readers may think this is a great book.
Ok, i feel like this one was just a set up story, kind of like Back to the Future 2was really just the set up to get to number 3. I still loved the characters and the story, but I feel like this was just the beginning off a longer story. The new character introduced towards the end from Japan is also really interesting in his brief appearance, and i would love to learn more about him. I would also like to note that unlike previous books in this series, i did not note the need for more editing this time. I glad that is getting better, since some self published authors get worse add they go and i have dropped them because of that. I really Colin and the world Massey has crafted, so I a glass his editorial process seems to be improving. Can't wait for the next one and guess I'll have to catch up the at least book three of Massey's other serious note.
𝑫𝒓𝒖𝒊𝒅 𝑬𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒓, Book 6 of the Colin McCool/Junkyard Druid series by M.D. Massey
This book was a great read, exhibiting exciting action, being well paced with excellent flow, having relatable and fully fleshed characters, and excellent proofing and editing. In the best of worlds, I would have given it a 4 or 4.5 rating. So why only three stars? Cliffhanger ending. I hate them with a passion, especially in a series that doesn't need a cliffhanger to keep me reading the next book.
For those that question whether it was a cliffhanger, we have to agree to disagree. I, for one, cannot conceive of not thinking that a book that ends with a is-he-good-or-bad character marooning the main character in an alternate dimension with no information about the dimension and no way home. Yeah. Fight me.
The main character reminds me of James Garner in the Rockford Files. He never gets a break and always gets beat up. Yet he keeps doing what he thinks is best.
He has more enemies than any other character in the series but he also has some of the strongest allies. Some of his behaviors have been unlike him but by the end of the book, it becomes more clear why he's changed. The series plot thickens and it can't help but get more intense.
This is the series that I measure urban fantasy by. I think that any one book in the series is entertaining but starting at the Junkyard Druid builds up the world he inhabits more clearly. I am looking forward to the next volume.
Betrayal and mistaken allegiance play a big part in this story. Poor Colin is still settling into his new role as justiciar but forces are trying impede his progress. Creepy new foes emerge and a former foe aides Colin. Torn between his feelings for Jesse and his unease with her new dryad form. For comic relief we have Kenny and Derp. These two stumble along getting into mischief. I loved the last minute reveal and it explains a but of Bells mysterious past. I read this using my KU subscription.
Colin has girlfriend problems and is being hunted by assassins. Figuring out his relationships with his resurrected former girlfriend and his current girlfriend may actually be the most dangerous. As Justiciar, Colin solves problems for the magical groups and makes more enemies. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
I am incredibly glad that I found this series. If you 're a fan of urban fantasy, give it a try. There are four short story collections, novellas that are part of the series. Be sure to read the books in order so you have the backstory. I had to stop reading this one in the middle so I could read the collections since a couple of the characters show up, and Belladonna, Crowley, and Hemi's stories need to be fleshed out. Great reads, all of them.
Not bad although decidedly different flow from the previous books!
This book had a different feel to the plot. Lots of heartache for our main character and lots of mixed emotions. The story was well written and plotted well as always from our author. Lots of intrigue and lots of set up for next in series. I'll reserve judgement until the next book...which is the point i think.lol
Well, it looks like this is the last installment for awhile anyway. I have gotten to know these characters well during six episodes and kind of hate to say goodbye. But, I suppose all good things must end. These adventures have been great fun. An added bonus is how much I have learned of mythical legends, creatures, and even countries. Great fun.
I love the series and the world it presents. This book is a great next installment with great character development and plot twists. The only downside is the over use of unnecessary profanity for dialogue filler. I hope that the author goes back to the great writing of the first book's.
So I didn’t have to wait long or at all for this book to come out (since it was already out) well all I can say is some question’s are answered and more are revealed Colin fears his other half more and more bell’s reveals what she’s willing to do for him cluck shows back up .....next book out ? If so yeay if not hurry please
Massey writes a good yarn, and I like the series. This is well crafted and proofed. However, I felt like I needed to re-read prior stories to get caught up. He needs to insert some more Butcheresque character and earlier story one liners to bring us up to date. I love the plot twists in this series and you will too.
Good Urban Fantasy. I enjoyed the book and have grown to trust the author to deliver good page turning adventure. This book does seem to fill in some missing info and bring back a version of Jesse but it sort of left me frustrated as it almost created as many new questions as it provided old answers if you have read all the Druid books. I guess I need to read the next book.
The Junkyard Druid is more grounded and colloquial that other Urban Fantasy series. I find that earthiness very appealing. And yet the plotting is just as complex, the characters just as deep as some of the best stuff out there. I not only highly recommend this book but the entire series of books. You won't regret it!
Thoroughly enjoyed this segment in the series. More mystery to Belladonna, one of my favorites. Miss Hemi but I guess he’ll return. The main character is such an intriguing anomaly. But honestly, all the supporting characters add so much, bringing a grin and cringe to the reader. I really love the dialogue.
I love this series. Colin McCool is so much fun. Somewhat similar to the Dresden files, but quite different in so many ways, the lore and the magic is amazing and each book has a mystery, a solution then a new mystery or set for the next book. This one was fantastic as expected. I have been listening to the audiobooks and love the narrator as well
Excellent story, with a very good twist. Still left wanting more. Collin has a new “enemy.” He also has a lot going on in his personal life. Well worth the read.
Love all the Mc cool druid books there's excitement action but most of all the best part is his compassion don't change him just keep writing the way you do and you'll have a forever fan in me thank you your books entertain a sick old woman
