Un mini-roman émouvant, très poétique et imagé qui nous rappelle de prendre la vie en main et de réaliser nos rêves avant que les remords nous rattrapent... Un roman toutefois plus adressé auz adultes qu'aux enfants il me semble... Malgré tout, une belle morale, bien que la fin m'ait paru un peu exagérée...

I found this book rather depressing, even though there was a nice ending for poor Ferdinand F. But to get to that ending you have to slog through 80+ pages of the details of Ferdinand's sad life, and when the happy times finally come, they ring a bit false, even in the context of a fable. But this read led to a good, heartfelt book club discussion, where we all admitted to having regrets in the same vein as Mr. F., if not (thankfully) as extreme.

Most book club members said they didn't like the first 4/5 of the book but they were glad they stuck with it to the end, and it did generate one of the best book club discussions we've had in a while. So I guess I would recommend this book for collective (but not solo) reading!

Mais quel magnifique roman! Poétique, touchant, original et superbement écrit. J’espère qu’il trouvera son public, entre les jeunes où il est catalogué officiellement, et tous ces adultes qui seraient fous de s’en passer.

Pour moi, Ferdinand fait partie de ces perles inclassables. Il a une place de choix dans ma bibliothèque et je pourrais le relire encore et encore....

Belle écriture poétique, roman facile à lire. L'histoire n'est venue me chercher profondément, il manquait un je-ne-sais-quoi. Cependant certaines citations sont restés avec moi donc je donne un 3.5/5.
