A family reunion just turned deadly. When Holly Waterston and Aidan are on a date walking the beautiful forest trails of Hanmer Springs, the last thing they expect is to trip over a dead body. To make matters worse, the police haul Aidan into the station. Apparently, the woods aren't the only things hiding secrets!
While the dead girl's boyfriend disappears from public view and the rest of the family bicker, another member of the family comes to a grisly end. But is the second death an act of despair from a grieving father or evidence that a disturbed killer is on the loose?

I'm a middle-aged woman who works in insurance, doesn't have children or pets, can't drive, has lived in Christchurch my entire life, and currently reside a two-minute walk from where I was born.
For some reason, I've developed a rich fantasy life.
I like to write mysteries, some set in my hometown of Christchurch, others ninety minutes up the road in the beautiful township of Hanmer Springs, or in the quasi-fictional town of Pinetar. These mysteries range from hard-hitting psychological thrillers, through to police procedurals, or the lighter adventure of a cozy mystery.
Well this one wasn't a death to do with the bakery but I must admit I'm not getting into these books anymore. it's more a case of reading it to get it done then enjoying it. Two people die in this one at first it seems like two different killers but in the end it's not. It's hard keeping up with all the relationships.

Can I just say how happy I am that early in this book, Holly wondered why she didn't just let Aidan break up with her when he tried to in the last book?
Aidan and Holly are on a date when they stumble across a dead body near the campground where an out of town family is holding their reunion. (One of very few dead people in this series!) Of course, Sergeant Matthewson isn't thrilled to once again find Holly on the scene but the real surprise comes when Holly learns secondhand that Aidan was once engaged to the victim - and he's the #1 suspect in her murder.
Though not happy in their relationship, Holly vows to find out who really killed Jessica. Mostly because she doesn't believe Aidan did it and she wants everyone to stop coming into the bakery to assure her of his innocence. Though determined to let the police do the policing, Holly can't help but ask a few questions of her own - much to the annoyance of Sergeant Matthews and her sister, Crystal.
This was another quick read and thankfully without a lot of editing errors to bring it down a notch. Once again, the book didn't end when the mystery did, paving the way for the sixth (and what appears to be the final) book in this series, but could also have left the book as a standalone novel, similar to the others in the series. I'm very curious to see how this series wraps up, but I've been enjoying these characters (except for Aidan) so I'm also a bit sad to read the last book.
I have read all the Sweet Mystery Books that have been written so far. I love all of them and the characters are brought to life so well that you feel as if reading about old friends. I am looking forward to the next book!
Book five of a great cozy by Katherine Hayton and I can't wait till the next one if you love a great cozy with characters you will love and a story that will keep you turning the page then this one is a must read
I enjoyed the authors series of stories about a wonderful cast of characters that seem to find themselves deep in the middle of a murder mystery. See if the answer will turn up in the end!
This series has been a definite hit and a guarantee of entertainment. Holly is at it again, solving murders, handling the business and making and breaking relationships. It was good and I look forward to the next!
You know how you hear about family get togethers having a lot of heat I. Them? Imagine not wanting to be there and HAVING to go. Then imagine everyone dumping on you. Oh it happens. Tempers flare and things go from bad to worse ...
Holly and Aiden fall over a murder victim while on a walking date, only to find themselves mixed up with not one but two murders. Can Holly save Aiden from being accused, and can Crystal forgive Holly for saying the unthinkable?
Holly is back in Hamner Springs helping her sister run the family bakery. Now that I'm into the 4rh book, it seems unnecessary to include why she's back and where she's been. Anyway, Holly and Aiden are on a walk when they discover a dead body. Aiden is taken in for questioning because he knew the deceased.
She was part of a family who are gathered near town for a family reunion. Her boyfriend disappears, so he is a suspect as well as Aiden. Then, another murder occurs. Who could have done this?
Holly will get to the truth with the help of her friends, but maybe without her sister. They have a huge falling out. I'm happy to say that by the end of the book, they will have made up. (spoiler) The mystery does get solved, so the reader can be comfortable in the conclusion, and it may surprise the reader to find out who it is.
I didn't like this plot line as well as the other three. I didn't think there was as much suspense about the murder. On the other hand, this was an easy and fun book to read. It is also free from swearing and cliffhangers, as promised by the author. A definite cozy mystery.
