International Bestselling Author S.J. Pierce delivers an exciting and refreshingly unique story in the Dystopian genre. Hunger Games and Divergent fans will devour this one...

We might be called Savages, but they're the real monsters.

Miles of open water separate us from New America, a place we once lived before we were exiled.

Welcome to our hell: a nameless island with every terror imaginable.

When my father's secret surfaced - that he was one of many aliens who took refuge on Earth - the humans rebelled against us, and the President saw their abilities as a threat.

My father and human mother paid the ultimate price.

The rest of us were shipped here to fight for our lives against rattlesnakes, boars, and mountain lions. A punishment for our one and only crime - being different.

Now I fight against a bitterness and rage I can barely control...

So when our Elders call a meeting with me and my friends, we know something big is in the works, and we'll all soon have to make a choice: stay here on the island, or sneak back into America and execute a plan for liberation…which could cost us our lives. But when a life of danger and destruction has been all you've ever known, throwing yourself into the fire seems not only natural but necessary.

I want to see the President and his conspirators pay.

Find out what happens when vengeance and dark intentions collide in this "powerful" and "refreshingly unique" Dystopian series. Binge-read today! Complete series available now...

Great Story

Spectacle has reminded me of how much I love dystopian books. It gave me the nostalgia of when I first read the Hunger Games or Divergent. I loved the new take though with the people in this book. I can't wait to read Book 2

Very enjoyable...

I couldn’t put it down. The author has come up with a fresh new race that scares the heck out of the humans... The characters were believable and this was easy to follow along with. I look forward to reading the next book.

I found Spectacle through VRO and while the cover may look like an amateur photoshop job, the summary drew me in. This is exactly why I stopped judging a book by its cover too, because I would have missed an opportunity to read a good book.

Combined with elements from Avatar and a bit of The Hunger Games, we follow Mirabella, a young woman whose life is thrown into chaos after the outbreak of people developing markings on them and finds her own father is one of those people. I'd describe Mira as an average type of main character, meaning that they weren't too emotional nor were they described as "strong" in the sense of personality. She thinks with her heart more than her head in most situations and I would describe her as a motherly type of character despite her age.

As for the supporting characters, most of them are pretty solid. They were all believable enough to sculpt a good story that keeps the readers interested. The romantic interest was extremely subtle, which I admired considering the fact that I've been getting a bit loathsome of all these insta-love relationships I see plaguing the Young Adult genre.

The plot is your usual good vs evil / conspiracy / dystopian type and its pace is quick -- a bit too quick, to be honest. Just as things were heating up, the book ended. I believe the book is around 140 pages (according to Goodreads), making for a fast, but enjoyable read.

While there's nothing monumental about the book that I can talk about without revealing something, it was still a fun read and it kept me interested. I do want to read more and look forward to reading the next installment of the series, but I also hope that the future books are larger in size. 140 pages is too little for something like this and I hate short reads when they're good like this one is.

I received an ARC of this YA book which, as noted in the title, is only part one. Keeping that in mind, it does not end with a cliffhanger. It's more of an introduction to the characters, their circumstances, and the action that has yet to come.

There are themes of corporate greed and political manipulations to ensure power, as well as those of friendship, loyalty, and bravery. Throw in some literal tribalism and you've got an allegory to illuminate today's dystopian world to teens. The fact that this may just be an exaggeration of current events is difficult to miss, but the author is neither heavy-handed nor didactic in her storytelling.

Because it is told from the POV of a young girl, the reader experiences all of the insecurities, uncertainties, and fears that this young girl does. There is also her growing awareness that things are not always as they seem and that those in authority are not always to be trusted. She doesn't see herself as a hero but it's clear she is being set up to be one.

I had grand plans to go to bed on-time last night after letting myself read this for just a half hour. Who was I kidding? You know I stayed up way too late reading this all in one sitting.

I was not expecting all the feels, but this book broke my heart almost right from the start. I was not prepared for the scale of everything that went down, and I've convinced myself .

It was interesting to see how Mira fit in with everyone. She just seems so different that I was starting to wonder about the milkman thing. What was revealed towards the end of this book was way cool, so I'm excited for the story to continue in the next one.

***I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.***

When I read about this book it intrigued me but I wasn't prepared for it. The story is more then you expect it to be. When Mira finds out that her father and others aren't what she always thought her world changes for her and also her friends. Their new life becomes one that she never imagined with her finding out that she's not who she thought also.

This is a story of kids growing up fast, finding your way in a new world and survival can take more then you ever thought. When I reached the last page I was sad because I didn't want it to end, I wanted to know right then what happens next. A must read for any age

Spectacle is a fantastic story of survival and friendship. The story is fast paced with great characters who I quickly became invested in. The authors descriptive writing allows the reader to easily visualize where the story is taking place. It may be tagged in the YA genre but I am 46 and loved it. I look forward to seeing where Mira's journey leads in the next book.

I really enjoyed reading this, although it was a little hard for me to get into at first. It reminds me a lot of the Hunger Games books, so if you liked those books you will love this one.

It is well written and kept my attention once I got a few pages in. I’m usually not a huge fan of this type of book but I absolutely loved this one.

This book is a little different then what i read. But gave it a try. This book has amazing writing that flows nicely and the story has a beginning of what the story will be throughout this series. This book will have you hooked from the beginning and will take you on twists that will have you wanting to know what will become of the book and this series.

“The Spectacle Trilogy” by S.J. Pierce is a YA adventure series that mixes dystopian with soft science fiction tropes and more than loosely reminds of Suzanne Collins’s “The Hunger Games”, Veronica Roth’s “Divergent Series”, and Vera Nazarian’s “The Atlantis Grail”. This is a good-written, easy to read and quick (barely 160 pages) book.

Two hundred years ago Earth suffered the Great Disaster, an earthquake of unseeing magnitude that forever changed the face of the planet, which now shows three remaining big landmasses. Mira Foster (FMC) lives in one of them (New America) but Mira’s family bears a secret, they are alien descendants, who have been living between humans hiding in plain sight. But as their genetical markings (which should help them to camouflage) appear on their skin, they become the target of the government, and deported to a sort of penal colony, to an island, where they are supposed to survive against the elements and wild-life.

The series focuses on conflict and power discrepancies between the two factions in the series and highlights the dark elements of the new social system in which people with different abilities become targets, just for being what they are, and are presented as a threat to the average population

Thought-Provoking . . .

Mira Foster’s family has a secret that is going to be dramatically unveiled. They are descended from aliens living with the humans and blending in. But their genetic markings intended to help them blend in become visible on their skin, allowing the government to target them for capture.

This was a good story that draws the reader in from the very beginning and will keep you eagerly reading. Well-written characters and an engaging story line moving at the perfect pace gave this book a suspenseful start for the series. The reader is quickly drawn into their crisis where things are not what they seem. Grab your copy and see how Mira navigates her new awareness and the danger that surrounds them.

I have to say that when I decided to read this book, I was not sure how I was going to enjoy this book. I must say I am very happy to say that I really enjoyed this book.

I mean how couldn't enjoy a book where a mixed-race(human and alien) human has to fight against the government who is ostracizing them because of who they are. I know I could be reading things into what happened in this book and the way I perceive it.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Mira and her best friends, Luxxe and Jacks were faced with an interesting and exciting secret when they were 10 that changed their lives. After a horrible situation places them and their families and people in danger, they are forced to face more danger because of corruption and lies and unbelievable need to uncover the truth.
