Held as his goal for so long, it fades into the distance as Jas leaves it behind. The world is bigger than he’d ever thought, he’s rapidly coming to realize.
Darren’s spell lingers, clinging to him, but he’s no longer powerless to its commands. He finally has the strength to stand against it and a new identity to call his own, both gifts of the Everburning, the goddess Shiina.
His powers are still new and unfamiliar, though, and his goddess is weak from her slumber. Darren is still out there looking for his wayward once-friend, and will stop at nothing to end what he sees as a threat to Drenwell’s safety. He’ll need to learn his own limits, if he has any hope of standing against his rival.
With the Chosen hot on his heels, the man who was Jas flees into foreign lands together with his new goddess. One goal unifies them - revenge. They’ll need allies to get it, but finding allies takes time.
Time they’re running all too short of as Drenwell closes in.

This was an excellent continuation of the series! The drive keeps building, without feeling forced or rushed. The world has been masterfully crafted, the characters are realistic with motivations that let you feel for them, and the pacing manages to hold your attention from beginning to end! Charred doesn't feel like the typical second book; There is no long rambling to try and keep the story alive, no awkward situations simply for the sake of trying to connect the first book to the last, and no trying to stretch plot points on longer than they should be just to have another book to sell.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series, and my only complaint is that the book had to end! (that, and book three hadn't been out when I finished this one, although I will be reading the rest of the series soon!)
Charred is in many ways a second half of the first Flameweaver book. Charred builds on the world and story started in Chosen, expanding the stakes and providing some long-awaited answers.
A fantastic sequel to Chosen, this book has more characters, more action and even more sarcasm. From epic battle scenes to hilarious character building chapters, this was a joy to read and I definetely recommend it to anyone who likes Fantasy stories (as long as you've read the first one. if you have not, go do that first :P)
The protagonist is not perfect, the gods a d goddesses less so. I keep yelling in my head for the protagonist to do or to not do something, anything else BUT that. But that's why the series work. Good reading.
