You met Rebecca and Cass in Fifty Shades of Pink. Now get Rebecca's perspective of their first meeting and see her journey to BECOMING Mistress.

Rebecca Cuinn lost control of her life once before, and she spent many years learning how to take it back. As Mistress and owner of an exclusive BDSM club, Rebecca now had control by the balls. She wasn’t about to lose it again by falling in love. Unfortunately, her heart wasn’t playing by Rebecca’s rules. She always was a sucker for androgynous, sexy women. But did the one that threatened to make her break all her rules have to be so young?

Cass Giles defied authority. So, when she was dragged to a BDSM sex club for a bachelorette party, she refused to let go of her judgments and have fun. No way she would submit to someone whose sole purpose was to hurt you. Just wasn’t her scene. That is until that “scene” included the mysterious Mistress. Now Cass was willingly breaking the rules just for a taste of Mistress’s punishment. But it wasn’t just Mistress she wanted. She wanted the woman underneath the mask. And she would do everything she could to prove they were meant to be.

I’ve been in Houston, Texas, writing novels and designing websites since 2009. Moving here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because I’ve been able to live wonderfully, and write my heart out. I’ve always enjoyed the arts in one form or another. Music sets the mood, reading stimulates my brain, and writing allows me to utilize my imagination in any way I want. I’ve been writing stories since I was a teen, and figured out it was my passion when I finished my first novel, Something About Eve.

I love being captivated by books that lead me into different, exotic places, and through impossible scenarios. I love being able to become someone else for a time. Reading has always inspired me to bring my own characters out to play. My hope is that my writing will inspire others, or at the least, give them a way to escape from everyday life for a little while.

If I'm not writing or reading, I'm training for triathlons. It's a good way to challenge my body the way I challenge my brain when writing. I'm not the greatest at it, but not only do I do it for the challenge, I do it for charity. It's a good motivation. :)

When the mask comes off.

50 Shades of Pink is a novella that caters to a select crowd, and the title should clue you in on what type of crowd. This book can be read after that novella or you can read it on its own but you wouldn't get Cass' perspective of the initial sexual encounters with Mistress, so I don't recommend skipping it.

This story is about Mistress, the mysterious masked owner of a BDSM club. Or should I say it's about Rebecca, the woman behind the mask. There's a lot about her that drew me to the story, but before we get into that, I want to clarify that not all the sex is BDSM, although we do get replays of their initial kinky sexual encounters in the novella told from Rebecca's perspective this time.

Unlike the novella, this book has a more sinister theme. It is about physical violence and abuse, although the abuse is not between the main characters. These are all in Rebecca's past but she never fully gets past it. It is a disturbing topic but it needs to be told and I like how deep it goes and how Kelly does it. She even uses multiple characters to show us how abuse can affect a third party e.g. family and friends. I also like how she chooses to separate forgiveness from closure - which is closely aligned to my own views about dealing with abusive people.

I like having Rebecca's perspective because it makes the insta-feelings that Cass has less one-sided. And maybe because I'm not too crazy about that kind of power play in sex, I love Rebecca as Rebecca more and I love how gentle she is with Cass. Both Cass and Rebecca have their own insecurities and it shows constantly, but I like that because it gives us a different side of them outside the bedroom.

I realise that Rebecca's friends are characters in Kelly's other books and I fully intend to check them out later. But for now, I'm moving on to Teach Me, which is a crossover story of Becoming and Mrs Middleton.

When I read Fifty Shades of Pink six months ago I thought it was a fantastic erotic novella but I had wanted more because I liked the characters and much more depth was hinted at. Well, Becoming is the ‘more’ I wanted. Where Fifty Shades of Pink was sexy with a connection, Becoming encases that period in time with their backstories and the negotiating of a relationship around some fairly simple obstacles like an age difference to dealing with years of abuse.

Rebecca is a brilliant college student undertaking a double degree in business when she meets Samantha, owner of a BDSM club, in order to assist in making the club profitable. Samantha is charismatic but also unstable and abusive. Years later, Cass finds herself in the club because her best friend has decided to have her bachelorette’s party there. She finds herself invited to the pink room by the mistress and curiosity motivates her to go even though kink is not her thing. This is when Fifty Shades of Pink is set. There is a bit of repetition here but there is so much more that follows. Cass is the first person in years that Rebecca has been intrigue by but much as she tries to stay away, she is constantly drawn to her.

If you want a quick, erotic read with some BDSM then Fifty Shades of Pink is a great read. If you want a romance with some angst, some exploration into the sexual power exchange, relationship development, engagement with numerous secondary characters and a lot of sizzling chemistry then ‘Becoming’ is just as good. I can easily recommend reading both but not back to back because of the repetition. It didn’t bother me at all because of the time and number of books I read in between the two.

Book received from Netgalley and Jourdyn Kelly for an honest review.

Not sure if i'm more annoyed that I've been so busy at work, that I haven't had much time to read or if the one book I did choose to squeeze in during this period was "Becoming: An LA Lovers Book."

I can't fathom how a book with so much sex and BDSM mixed in could be so damn boring. And this author touched on a lot of issues such as domestic violence, drug abuse, and personality disorders and still managed to make it all a giant yawn-fest for me.

The inner monologue of both characters was non stop and annoying. For instance, they would bear their souls to each other(on every other frigging page) and then have an inner monologue right after where they would say "OMG why did I say such an emotional thing!?" Well, I don't know fucker, but you just wasted a whole lot of breath saying it. I'm truly not a fan of this type of inner monologue where I assume the author is trying to show how the MC's are starting to fall in love but aren't consciously realizing it yet. It's eye rollingly frustrating to read, especially when it's throughout the book.

Every issue they had(and they had a bunch)was resolved quickly and punctuated with some marathon sex. Seriously, they had sex almost every night for "hours" for the month or two that this book covered. How they were able to stay conscious during the day without massive quantities of Red Bull is beyond me.

Basically, I think this was an erotica type book that the author tried to wrap a novel length story around and failed in my opinion. If she kept it at a novella length, I think it would have been a less tedious read.

P.S. Interestingly, I just read a few recent reviews by Corrie, VB and Alexis on other books where the term DP is used. I had no idea what that abbreviation stood for, so thank you Google. And i'm happy to report that there was DP in this book as well!! So if you have a Christmas wish for more DP readings, you can go for the trifecta with "The Other Woman", "Fallen" and "Becoming." Merry DP Christmas to all!

How were they able to walk the next morning?

The plot. This is the full length version of Fifty Shades of Pink but with oodles of drama and enough sex to be considered a health hazard.

The characters. Several 'new' characters are introduced that make appearances in the Eve Sumptor series and in Coming Out. Some were great additions that really helped flesh out the story while others were just there to cause chaos.

The writing. I was not a fan. It's like the author wrote a prologue then copied and pasted FSOP and then decided to write a bunch of chapters filled to the brim with melodrama. I nearly choked when I re-read Michele's hilarious review about this book. Click here if you need a chuckle or two.

The special. This contains a lot more backstory about how Rebecca became a Domme and is written from her POV for the first 40% of the book.

The negative. From chapter 9 onward the POV randomly switches between everyone and their grandmother which kept throwing me off. The absolute worst thing about this book however is that it spoiled major plot points that happen in the Eve Sumptor series and in Coming Out. No point in me reading those books now.

The verdict. Either read this book or the novella but don't read them both. This is more suited for those who are looking for angst and drama with a heavy dose of smut. The novella is better suited for those who just want BDSM related smutty goodness with a dash of angst.

TW: drug use, extreme domestic violence, sadism, erotomania, non explicit non-con.

I liked it

I was pretty stoked when I heard there would be more on the story of Cass and Rebecca as I like them best so far in the lesbian series Kelly writes. The beginning of the book did make me cringe a bit but once I got to the parts that match up with 50 Shades of Pink, I was able to settle into it. The chemistry and intimate scenes between the two characters were pretty good but what I liked most is how much longer the book went. It didn't end with the happy ever after per se. It went longer than that even though it really was only a few months. Anyway, I enjoyed it. I'm pretty tempted to read Eve and Lainey's story but knowing how it ends make not want to...unless there is a third book going to come out where Eve says to heck with it and goes with Lainey or something like that (I have no idea how the book actually goes).

I'm totally becoming a fan of this author. This book has a parallel timeline to her other book, but this focuses on the characters rebecca & Cassidy. This book is definitely very hot & steamy. One of the main characters runs a bdsm club so they're is definitely that element present. Don't let this book pass you by, free on kindle unlimited!

May 2021: Started the audio, but stopped at the end of chapter 7. Narrator Tess Stavers was really ruining the book for me. Not good at all. So I will stick to the ebook and paperback.

This was a roller coaster full emotions. First a warning. There is a big abuse scene. It is written so well that I think I didn’t breath the whole scene. So be warned. I loved this book. I loved the connection/chemistry between Cassidy and Rebecca(Misstress) from the first moment Cassidy came in the club. I believed the lust at first side turning in to love at second side. The sex scenes were very hot 🔥 🔥. But I would have loved it if the role switch scene( Rebecca submitting and Cassidy dominating) would have on page in stead of off page. For me it was an important for Rebecca’s character and that she could feel that again. So that was a bit disappointing. Because they were in love at the not even middle of the book I kept on waiting for the other shoe to drop or a break up scene or something. But non off that which makes this book so much different than other. For a large part we see them getting to know each other better. Trusting each other and getting rid of their demons. We see them communicating. It’s almost felt like one big epilogue to me. Love it! 5 stars.

Read the novella of this story Fifty shades of Pink immediately after. Loved reading Cassidy’s side of a piece of this story. Made it more hot and even better.

I was a fan of novella, and I’m also a fan of the novel. What I also like is Rebecca’s point of view in the novel, which perfectly complements Cassidy’s one in the “Fifty Shades of Pink”. Now, somehow, the story is complete. I liked the scenes and I like Rebecca as a character a lot.

Becoming: An LA Lovers Book (Kindle Edition)
by Jourdyn Kelly
I listened to this book and it followed the same characters (in more detail) as Fifty Shades of Pink. Mistress and Cassidy. We delve into the depths of their life struggles and how they freed each other from their demons. I like this as a low-angst read. There is not a lot of back and for should I, shouldn't I, or will she like me or not. I give this one 5 stars because I like the characters. These folks are a home away from home.

Yes, Mistress

Where do I begin on this psychological erotica?

I went in knowing this was going to be heavily centered around the bdsm lifestyle, which was one of the reasons why I picked up a copy. What I wasn't completely prepared for was all the psychological "warfare" that came with it. I understand there's a certain mental strength that comes with being a dominant and/or submissive to be able to wield that power or relent. If one has a weak mind upon entering the darker side of power and sex, then all hell will break loose. Kelly superbly demonstrated the affects power can have on someone with a weak character. Samantha, Rebecca's boss/Domme, started off as a woman of power who had respect, but a failing business, and eventually drugs, her power had shifted from controlled to an off-the-rails locomotive headed for a burning inferno pit of sabotage and despair. Samantha was the perfect example of the opposite of what a true Dom/me is supposed to be. BDSM is more than just the physical acts, it's a trust and respect built on a solid foundation between the D/s before any acts occur, and Samantha and Rebecca's relationship was toxic that bordered on what I can only describe as murder-suicide. Samantha nearly murdered Rebecca and basically killed herself in the process. Once the dust had settled, we were left with a fragile, broken Rebecca who expertly built up walls to protect herself from becoming the victim ever again. When Cass enters, who's hot as hell, btw, we see those erected, reinforced walls start to crumble the more Cass showers Rebecca with love, understanding, and respect. Watching Cass and Rebecca fall in love had me all giddy and gushing like a girl with a schoolyard crush. The sex was hot, explicit, tender, and deep. Deep to the point where I felt at times I could sense their souls entwining during their coupling. P.S. I appreciate great strap-on sex. There was a lot of side characters that I sensed were from other books that is part of a series that I have not read, so some of the backstories had me a little lost, but that's only because I haven't read them. Kelly did a great job at tying up loose ends that didn't leave me pondering. I'll admit the side story of Cass's friend Miranda kind of threw me for a loop, I totally didn't see that coming. I figured she was just another good buddy side character. I was also fuzzy on the timeframe earlier on in the story. I hadn't realized so much time had passed since Samantha's exit and when we meet up with Rebecca in the future. Maybe I missed a small tidbit of info indicating the time jump?

I rate this 4.5 and highly recommend to anyone who loves bdsm, hot sex, and soulmates falling in love.

Side note: There is physical abuse depicted in this story.

Rebecca went through terrible abuse and managed to build herself back up to a strong and successful woman. Cassidy is the one person to stir any feelings in Rebecca in years. She tries to fight her attraction by leaving. Cassidy won’t give up and may be the only person who can rid Rebecca of her guilt. They journey together and learn about being in a relationship. Things are never easy but with love you can work through them. Their sex life is off the charts hot and sexy. Tessa did a wonderful job narrating this audiobook and really brought it to life.

So this was a 3.5 for me . For some reason that I can not clearly explain (I’m not going back to decipher the puzzle). Something threw me off in the beginning of the story. As I was reading I kept feeling as if I missed something . A few times I had to go back and re read a paragraph or two. It felt like bad editing and someone skipped a few sentences .That said once the story got going it was quite good . The MC’s had great chemistry and I did enjoy the BDSM aspect .

I liked the depth of this one. Rebecca, my poor girl. I have to say though, there was a slight repetition of the MCs' insecurities that I didn't like because with all the therapy and assurance, I would wish that we are moving forward. Though, I do understand relapse.

What an exceptional age gap love story. The story is Rebecca's and before Cass and after they meet. Intertwined are what's going on in her friends lives through conversations. Who we've met throughout the LA Lovers series. Including the Eve Sumpter series. This is so HOT!!! There are tough subjects in this story. A favorite! Worthy of more than 5 stars!

I had too many issues with this book to continue, holy shit. The premise was interesting.. and that's about where my compliments end.

Rebecca is a DV survivor and former sub turns dom in order to regain a sense of control. She owns the BDSM club her dead abuser owned. Her entire support network/group of friends consists of; the surgeon who operated on her 15 years ago, the two nurses who cared for her while in the hospital, and her Aunt.. who also happens to be a psychiatrist.. the same psychiatrist that she has weekly appointments with? Right. Anyway..

She meets Cassidy in her club, and breaks all of her rules for her, freaks out, runs away, talks to a friend and her.. PSYCHIATRIST.. who is her AUNT.. and comes back. They run into each other (literally.. lol) and a whirlwind romance (lol) begins. Cassidy is SO clingy and jealous and questions Rebecca EVERY TIME she speaks to another person.. and this read like it was.. endearing? They suck. At communication. At everything. They have a super emotional conversation, barely resolve anything, and then fuck. For hours. Literally. There's a lot of *shuffles feet* and "MaRaThOn SeX" and replenishing fluids (lol).

CYA.

Perfect!

This book, actually, this series, has that elusive and magical balance of great plot, well developed characters, and “great feels.” It’s a fantastic series, but Rebecca and Cass’ story was my favorite of the series.

I found this author through the Mrs. Middleton crossover, and I’m really glad I did.

Can't Get Enough

Ok, so this was totally not where I was expecting a book from Rebecca’s POV would take me… but never have I been happier to be SO wrong!!!

***********************
** SPOILER ALERT **
***********************

“If we’re going to trust each other together, we’re going to have to trust each other when we’re apart.”

“ʼI look around me,ʼ Cass continued, oblivious to Rebecca’s stare. ʼAnd I see all of these things keeping people apart. Fear,ʼ she said as she remembered how Hunter had left already because of the fear she wasn’t good enough for Ellie.
ʼConsequences.ʼ Her eyes landed on Eve and Lainey.
“ʼSo many things fighting against true happiness. I could have let Rand tear us apart.ʼ”.”

I swear, this series somehow keeps getting better with every book— especially considering how high the bar was set with the Eve Sumpter series!! But, Jourdyn Kelly killed it again… making the new POV/old storyline interesting & engaging!! I'm just hoping their will be more books about these characters' lives cause there I'm still left in an unresolved limbo of uncertainty. (& I still need… WANT DESPERATELY… to continue following their lives, endeavors, journeys & futures of their stories.)
…Like…

…SERIOUSLY— What's up with all the infering that Eve & Lainey are suffering from regrets & sacrifices over their relationship decisions when in “Flawed Perfections” it was made abundantly clear that despite their love for each other, they both chose the husbands they both were truly, deeply & sincerely IN LOVE WITH?!?! Is this mournful remorse or merely remembrance?!?!
PLEASE, you gotta let the next book be an Eve & Lainey!!!

Check the Evidence:
–“She also knew that Eve gave up the one person she was in love with in order to “do the right thing.”

–“You can change things, Eve.”
Eve brought her gaze back to Rebecca. “You have no idea how much I wish that were true. There are too many obstacles. Too many lives that can be destroyed.”
“So, you sacrifice your own happiness?”
Eve shrugged. “It was the choice I made. I understand your fears, Rebecca, more than anyone. But the ‘what-ifs’ will be even worse. I promise you that.”
From her peripheral, Rebecca saw the object of Eve’s happiness and sorrow.
She wished she could do something to help her friends. Unfortunately, she didn’t even know what to do to help herself.

–“Regret is a bitter pill to swallow, Rebecca. Fear causes you to make extremely regrettable decisions. Even if you think you’re doing the right thing.”

–“Not being with the person you’re truly in love with kills your soul with each passing day. I was away from Cassidy for two months and it was incredibly painful. I can’t imagine how you feel seeing Lainey every day, feeling as though you can’t be with her.”

–“Do I want to be with Lainey? Of course, I do. I missed my shot.”

You're not going to want to put this one down!

I just read this book again for like the fourth time and it just dawned on me that I never wrote a review for it. How dare I?! I can't get enough of Cass and Rebecca. I love how their story comes together and the way they love and support one another. They have that connection that most of us can only dream of having someday. It's so passionate and all encompassing. I wish we could have more of them -hint, hint Jourdyn- to read about. There's another character that I'd like to read more about as well and that is the amazing, Dr. Wills. She's a hoot with her Cracker Jack prize of a psychiatrist degree and I'd like to read a book with her as the main character and cameos from the others. I think that's my favorite part about Jourdyn's books, the cameos. It's always refreshing when a familiar character pops up on the scene and you already know their background a bit. You really feel like you're part of the narrative as it just pulls you in that much more. Thank you Jourdyn for sharing your gifts with us and please, keep them coming. If you haven't read this title, you are seriously missing out and I promise, you won't just read it once.

Thank you NetGalley and Jourdyn Kelly for this early release copy.
I had trouble figuring out how to rate this book.
The instant lust between Cassidy and Rebecca is completely believable and kinda even expected given the book genre. I had a bit more trouble coming to terms with the desperate longing and inclinations of love after less than 3 interactions...all of which had nothing but sex involved in those interactions.
I think it was more difficult to get wrapped up in the insta love between Cassidy and Rebecca since the initial relationship Rebecca had with Samantha seemed so much more developed. That Samantha & Rebecca took so much time to move to fruition and even more time to degrade made it a little disappointing when Cassidy and Rebecca got so absorbed in each other so quickly.
There was a lot of drama thrown in here so you do get sucked up into the story despite all that and it helped that the author even mentions later on how crazy it was for them to be falling in love so fast. I mean at least they were aware how ridiculous it was.
The supporting characters were really entertaining and a welcome addition to the story.
I especially enjoyed Aunt Wills.

I was provided an ARC copy of Becoming for an honest review.

This is my first read by Jourdyn Kelly. While I have read many books in the LGTBQIA genre, I tend to gear towards a more MM dominated romance. So I decided to move out of my comfort zone, into the world of F/F and give Becoming a chance.

The beginning starts in the past, giving you a back story for Rebecca one of the female mains in the book. While I understand the importance of defining the character I did find that first part to be a bit slow paced.

Once past that and Cassidy is introduced, the storyline flows. Miss Kelly writes a story of love and compassion and trust. She builds strength in her characters while they deal with past demons. And she definitely paints vividly tantalizing sexual scenes.

While Becoming is labeled as BDSM, I do feel that was only a very small part of the actual book.

Overall, I give Becoming 4 stars. A recommended read if you enjoy this genre or looking to wet your appetite with something new.

That's how to change perspectives

Loved getting to see things from Rebecca's perspective. I have seen many authors fail where this author did not. Our did it's job by adding another layer to their initial meeting. There is more to this book than the BDSM scenes which are deliciously written. There are also several other love scenes that have nothing to do with the lifestyle. That's the reason why i fell in love with Cass and Rebecca. It's an important part of their relationship, but it's not the only one.

There's also more drama in this book. We get to see Rand a little more. I'm happy to say I had her all figured out. Well, maybe not all of it lol. We get to see several situations test the relationship between Cass and Rebecca. Most of the time they react correctly, but other times not so much. They both have to learning how to deal with these situations together.

I loved the book, definitely recommend it, and will definitely read it again.

I had never read a book about BDSM before but I love Jourdyn Kelly's writing so I figured I'd give it a read. It did not disappoint although I have to admit the beginning of the book was so intense that I almost stopped reading it. I was so taken aback that I actually interrupted where I was in the book and went to the end to see how it turned out. After reading that I was able to return to where I had been and continue reading. I'm so glad I did.

The chemistry between the characters was wonderful. They had me laughing at times. There were several erotic scenes in this book that were incredibly hot! Ultimately I very much enjoyed the book and didn't want it to end. It was very well written and powerful. I have read some on get books. Now I will have to go and read the rest. I highly recommend this book.

I received an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.
