Two years ago, Raven Xingtao was locked in a tower and denied her birthright thanks to the scheming of her brothers. After she was freed, she set out to reclaim what was hers and get her revenge. It has been a long time coming, but after tonight the job will be halfway done.
On Golden Rock there is a beautiful fortress and at the heart of that fortress is Raven’s brother, Magpie. Unfortunately, between Raven and Magpie is every sword swinging, tough as nails pirate that sails under Magpie’s flag and Raven has a crew of about a dozen. The only way to get in the same room and face her brother is in disguise. Now, if things go south, there’s an army between Raven’s crew and their boat. And in plans like this, things always go south eventually.

Just when I've given up on seeing wholesale pirate action in this series, Raven finally gets around to assaulting the island where one of her traitorous brothers is hiding out. Fights galore!
But still plenty of the romance that we're really here for! And in addition to all the women loving women usually featured, there's a little questioning among the cast about bisexuality, asexuality, and aromanticism.
4.5* there’s not much I can say about this that I haven’t already said about previous issues, so I’m just going to say I love this series wholeheartedly and leave it at that.
While I am sill not entirely in love with the art, I like the characters and the shading of their rivals. This was a good end to the first part of the quest.
Raven and her crew are bound for the island palace, Golden Rock, where her brother is throwing a party for his allies. The island has many defenses, however, and they have to formulate a careful plan of attack. Fortunately, they encounter a ship of dancers who are supposed to perform at the party and Raven convinces them to add a few members of her crew to their landing party. Meanwhile, others will infiltrate the island from a small beach and cause a distraction. Remaining crew members will extract the teams when they’ve achieved their aims. Things don’t go quite to plan, but well enough, and soon Magpie (Raven’s brother) is in custody. The women are completely distracted by each other and their budding relationships throughout this daring escapade. While it’s great that there’s so much love on the high seas and that it’s diverse and inclusive, it occasionally gets in the way of the story/action that’s taking place.

As always, this series is just amazing. My only complaint is that I haven't really liked the artwork as much in the last couple of volumes. It's not 'bad' by any means and I loved all the cool costumes in this volume in particular, but it definitely feels less detailed than the earlier volumes and there are several sets of characters that I end up having to recognize by their clothing because they look so similar otherwise. This volume was awesome because Raven finally gets to confront one of her brothers over what was done to her waaay back volume 3 of the original Princeless series, and because we get some cool new characters as well. This series is just so cute and so much and I love all of my queer lady pirates so much. ❤
The energy picked up again in this volume! I enjoyed how the teams were broken down, making it much easier to track the large crew. Entertaining and with quite a few new character developments that definitely lean more to the fantasy side. Seeing Raven be her awesome Captain-self again was definitely a plus.
I've been a little disappointed in the past few installments in the series. I think that there has been a change in the direction in the series in some ways (mainly in character development). I was glad to see that the plot was continuing on its main quest as I had felt previously that we were getting lost along the way. I am hoping for more action or a little more drama in the next installment in the series. Although these last few volumes haven't been my favourite, I still enjoy the series and the romances so far.
Queer pirates are pretty much exactly my jam so this series is incredible. *Things* are happening so I can't wait to get my hands on the next ones in the series.
Volume 6: Some Plot occurs! Raven and her crew are finally ready to take on her brother Magpie in his semi-impenetrable fortress, Golden Rock. The plan is clever and interesting, some small cracks appear in relationships, and Raven gets a couple new friends to join her crew. Also, Magpie is the worst.
I still love this story and I really hope it gets continued. I think it's great. The dialogue is fantastic, the characters are so real and so relatable, and I am Invested in Ananda's plotline now (along with everyone else's). Highly recommended for teens and up.
