Do you know that feeling when you're staring at something and all of a sudden - 💥BOOM!💥 - You've reached your destination and don't understand where the time has gone and how you got there?
that's how I felt with this book. 😱
The beginning was promising - but then, not so much... all because of the heroin Alexa - she was probably the most annoying woman that has ever been written in books.
Then I got blacked out and heard "Thank you for listening, hope you enjoy the audio" - only I have no idea what happened in the story! Between us, I don't feel like I missed something... LOL 😂😂😂

When I reached 30% of this book, I realized this book has suspense mystery on it. Not just romance. From the blurp it is promising. I thought this is about second change romance. But again I thought it wrong.
I am not against suspense mystery mix with romance. But I do not like this book at all because of Alexa. She is a super annoying. I feel that she only becomes tough if dealing with people she feels she is superior. Like her sister and her mother. But other people, she becomes a very annoying damsel in distress. So annoying I want to shoot her.
Now Drake is another character. He has every aspect of perfect book boyfriend. Loyal, protective, romantic. Even after 2 years he was dumped by Alexa, he still pinning for her. What a man! So I give this book 3 stars because of Drake.
The rest..... not working with me. Toward the end of this book, I don't really care who is the culprit.

With creating Drake you just set a new standard for book-boyfriends. He's simply amazing. Thank you for giving us such a loving and deeply caring guy, we can swoon over. His love for Lex is unwavering and solid as a rock. It's Lex's personally safe heaven and for every reader of this story.
"And I will spend the rest of my life helping you achieve your dreams. Every one of them."
To be honest, at the beginning I questioned if I'm going to like the book. I wasn't sure if I could connect to Lex and Drake. It was quite unusual for one of Kristin's books that I couldn't feel the connection and chemistry of the characters directly. Maybe because we simply get thrown into the middle of the story without much knowledge of the past and what really happened. But after about 30% into the story I suddenly felt the sparks flying of the pages, slowly but steady. Like the way Lex and Drake found their way back to each other.
"Even if you wanted to leave, I would spend every day of the rest of my life convincing you to choose me."
Drake and Lex's story is a really cute and swoon-worthy one. It was fun and entertaining with just the right amount of suspense and hotness. It has a perfect mix of every emotion and keeps your eyes clued to the pages until the very end. Leaving you with the wish of knowing more about Drake and Lex.

I was excited to start Intoxicated By You, I love second chance romances especially when there is more to the reason to why they are apart than what they know. I went in to Intoxicated By You with high expectations but sadly they didn’t live up to them. Is Intoxicated By You a good book? Yes I believe it is but there were issues that made me not like it as much as I had hoped I would.
The author appeared to try to pull off that suspenseful edge to Alexa and Drake’s story it lost it’s edge after a while. I didn’t believe that these two had true chemistry, the fade to black sex scenes did a disservice because there was nothing to validate the chemistry between the two. I wanted to see the spark that had been there between these two. At times there were some cheesy moments that I believe were meant to come off as cute but just I found annoying.
Now with all of that being said you would think I hated this book, the opposite is the actual case. I liked it, I wish I had liked it more because it had the potential but was lacking that special something. I liked the dynamic between Drake and his brothers and the set up for the next book. It wasn’t a bad read by any means but it was an okay one, for me at least. I am curious to see how the next book is going to play out. Like always what didn’t work for me or in this case worked but didn’t work for me, may work better for you.

In the matter of a couple days, Alexa lost two of the most important men in her life. One was her father, taken from her in a logging accident. When she received a letter from her father after the reading of his will telling her to leave the love of her life, she lost the second, her soul mate.

A new to me author with a romantic suspense (light on suspense) that was fun-to-read. I loved the brothers and their loyalty to one another. One very together family and another that left you shaking your head wondering how people can act so cruel, mean, petty and jealous of each other. I'm so sick of book moms who are pathetically poor at loving their children.
Wasn't a love or hate read for me. Just middle of the road.

My first read by Kristin Mayer and won't be my last! This story was perfect it had the right amount of mystery, suspense! Loved that Alexa & Drake got a second chance, they should not have lost the first chance! Look forward to more stories about the Foster brother’s!

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it.
When Lex's father he leaves her with one finally warning...to keep away from the one man she loves. Being the daughter she is Lex picks up and leaves town never to see Drake Foster again. That is until she finds herself pulled back into the family drama. This story had a good amount of suspense and intrigue as well as a lot of steamy passion.

Intoxicating!
What a great story, I love small town romances where everyone is up in your business. Those twiner sisters are something else.
I loved Lex and Drake, they were perfect together.
I was pulled right in from the start, I actually sort of knew what the outcome was going to be but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment and the angst. Great book. I actually can’t wait for Kane’s book, something tells me there will be some laughs. Those brothers are something else.

"There were only so many times my heart could break."
Intoxicated by You was about Alexa and Drake. The story starts with Alexa making a huge mistake and leaving Drake. Years later she is back in town to open a clinic with her best friend, and she runs into Drake. The feelings, for both of them, are obviously still there, and they get things straightened out pretty quickly. They realize they have lost 2 years that they never should have lost, and they don't want to lose any more time. After they realize their relationship was sabotaged, they are left with the task of finding out what really happened.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I went in expecting a romance book and I got so much more. It was definitely a great romance, but it also had a little bit of mystery added in that kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself just blowing through the book trying to find out what happened, who was behind it all, and how everything was going to turn out. I had many different theories throughout the book about what was going on, but it kept me guessing for a while. There were definitely some bombshells dropped that I wasn't expecting.

I loved Alexa! She was so compassionate for others, she was loyal to her family and friends, and she was very strong considering all that she had been through. She wanted to help anyone she could, regardless of how they may have treated her in the past. I loved that about her. She was the kind of friend anyone would want in their life.
Drake was AMAZING. What a book boyfriend. He was just everything wrapped up in a nice package! He was strong, protective, and he loved Alexa fiercely. He didn't care what had happened between them years ago, the minute she stepped back into his life he wanted to do everything he could to keep her there. He loved his family, and the scenes between him and his brothers were some of my favorites.
This book had such a great cast of characters. The Foster brothers, their parents, and Hollis (Alexa's best friend). I even loved the townspeople. All of these characters just added some nice charm to the book, it made you feel like you were there in that small Alaskan town, or it at least made you feel like you wanted to be there, and be a part of that community. Alexa's mom and sister left little to be desired in the character department, but they were great villains. They were the type of villain that you just can't wait for karma to show up and take over, and karma did not disappoint in this book.

Overall I'm giving this book 4 STARS. The ONLY thing keeping me from a full 5 is that I just wish there was more, I wasn't ready for the story to end. I would have been happy with like 100 more pages, I don't know. I just didn't want it to be over. That is definitely not a bad thing. This was my first read by Kristin Mayer, but it definitely won't be my last. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the other Foster brothers have their own books also, so I can't wait to dive into those! If your looking for a sweet romance with some mystery and thrill this is definitely the book for you!

This is a super sweet, extra special 2nd chance at love romance story that is mixed with a mystery that keeps you guessing until almost the very end. Alexa and Drake’s story is one of loss and heartbreak, of greed and lies, of hope and renewal, of true love and soulmates. Alexa lost two of the most important men in her life in the past of just a few days. What she didn’t know is that these were the doings of someone close to her. Her dad died due to a supposed logging accident and then just a few days later, she received what she thought was a letter she received after the reading of his will, telling her to leave the love of her life. Fast forward two years later and Alexa is returning to her home town with her awesome good friend, to open a health clinic so what happened to her father doesn't happen to anyone else. No sooner is she back in the town does she run into her lost love and this is when the story really got going. Alexa and Drake’s story is one that is full of suspense, mystery, intrigue, and 2nd chance romance. Oh the emotions that come bubbling forth will have you going along on this emotional roller coaster because this is one story you will enjoy being sucked into. Ms. Mayer writes such a complex and compelling love story that you cant help but root for the hero and heroine. Theirs was a love story that couldn’t be denied. I harbor such harsh feelings toward the villains in this read. This is a MUST-READ!!!!

This is a sweet, infuriating second chance romance. I am not referring to the couple as infuriating, but the people surrounding them that caused their break up. Drake and Lex have a loving, sweet, lust, passionate love for another. True love, fate brought them together. But of course, people sometimes become jealous and create havoc. Lex's father dies, and after his death, she receives a letter from him stating that she needs to break up with the love of her life, Drake, because he doesn't think he is good for her. So, his last requests, she honors it. She goes away for 2 years, avoiding everything Drake. Let me tell you, Drake, swoooooooon. He is the perfect, protective, loving, sweet, always in tune with Lex. He will do anything and everything for Lex. I love him. The author introduces Drake's brothers, Hayden and Kane. I cannot wait for their stories. I cannot wait to see Kane eat his words about meeting the right woman. We also meet Hollis, big time city boy/rich as heck/new doctor in town. Lex and Hollis are friends from Med school, and he wanted a new start in a new different place. I love him. I hope he gets his own book, he was such a great character, and loyal friend. There are mysterious occurrences that happen in this book that will keep you on edge, there will be times when characters will be sooooo crazy, it will make you wish you could just reach into the book and just 'slap a b*tch' but, its just a book :o)....Great read, it certainly kept me on my toes, and I love Drake and Lex's love story so much!!!

Extra sweet second chance romance comes together with a mystery that keeps you guessing and on edge with anticipation in Intoxicated By You. I devoured this book. I absolutely could not put it down because I had to know what was going to happen next. Alexa and Drake’s story kept me glued to the pages. There was so much going on I was constantly trying to guess who was behind everything or I was busy completely swooning at the perfect love these two had. There wasn’t a moment that didn’t have me hooked while reading this!
Alexa and Drake were torn apart two years ago. Leaving Drake broke not only his heart, but Alexa’s too. When she returns to open a clinic with her best friend the love between them quickly pulls them right back together. These two have that soul mate kind of love that takes your breathe away. I loved that there was no hesitation between them, they both know they belong together and don’t even try to fight it. That made me love them even more.
But the joyous reunion is riddled with secrets from the past. As truths come out and lies are discovered the mystery of who wants them apart and what are they after grows and leaves you on the edge of your seat trying to unravel what happened to drive them apart in the first place. I cannot wait to read the next in this series!

Loved it. I have read her books before and enjoyed them. This one blew the rest out of the water. So very well written. Gripping from beginning to end with a great story line great characters and suspense. This book breaks your heart puts it back together breaks it again and yep puts it back together. At least that is what i felt reading this book. Loss betrayal and love what more could you want in a book. I absolutely loved it and want so much more from these characters. Highly recommend reading this one. Guarantee you will enjoy this one.

It’s a real mix of emotions!
But a story of two people who are so deeply in love that even after been forced apart for two years they find their way back to each other and soon rekindle where they left off but who wanted them apart in the first place ? As they look for answers it seems more and more isn’t adding up!

Alot of twist and turns.
This book seemed to have alot in it. Mystery and suspense plus some nice comedy. Drake and Alexa had been torn apart a few years back and Drake had no understanding of why. Alexa is back in town and will not be able to resist him. Please tell me we will get a book on Hollis also. That man kept me smiling through his manly Alaskan ideas. Grab this one for sure.

I have to say that I just loved this book! I loved the second chance romance and mystery/suspense angle. Despite external forces, it is clear that Drake and Lex truly love each other. Drake definitely made me swoon. Yes, some of it was probably a little over the top, but it totally won me over. I also liked the setup with Drake's brothers and can't wait for the next story!

I'm so glad I went back and gave this book a second chance. Really liked the story filled with second chance love, suspense, mystery and a passion that could never break. Lexi and Drake's love was beautiful and I can't wait for Hayden's book.

Quick, pleasurable read
This storyline was full, full, full!! So much so that at times it seemed the author couldn't fully develop the plot. Also, some of the writing seemed somewhat elementary.

3.5 stars but I'll round up..
Two years apart with no closure and now they almost just pick back up right where they left off almost immediately? I could have used a little more angst with them rekindling what they had before. But while the romance part of the book took off too fast, the plot itself seemed a little slow going. Then about 1/2 way through the pace picked up and I enjoyed the second half of the book a lot more than the first half. There was an element of suspense, that was honestly the best part of the book. Then with Drake's family and their playful jabs and Hollis determined to become a real Alaskan man the book had some laughter in there too. Yet I didn't fall in love with Alexis - I never really connected to her. I did like how protective Drake was over her though. Anyway, turned out a fair read.

Wow!!
This book was so good! Drake and Alexa’s story was heartbreaking but so beautiful. The writing in this book pulled me in instantly and I couldn’t get enough.

Well, hello Mr. Swoony Pants aka Drake!
This was my first Kristin Mayer book and TRUST ME when I say that it won't be my last. LOVED her writing and ALL the characters. Hollis is hilarious, Hayden and Kane are just as delicious and all manly like Drake, and Drake's parents? Uh-mazing!
Hayden's book seems to be the next one coming and darn it, I'm super stoked!!!!
The mystery, the suspense, and the drama happening throughout this book had me 100% intrigued and hooked! I needed to find out what was happening...how all the pieces connected. Boy, I was not disappointed! I was actually surprised! There was a detail I did NOT see coming at all. And I loved that!!
Amazing read and one I HIGHLY recommend. FIVE STARS!!

Second chance romance with suspense
There were several things I liked about the book. I liked it was free with KU. I liked the added mystery/suspense added to the plot. I liked how the H & h realized they had been duped fairly early on , and that it was handled with maturity. There wasn't wasted chapters because of a misunderstanding.
Where the story fell flat with me was the actual chemistry between the characters. Alexa and Drake were so in love that both had been faithful for 2 years, but we got a few cheesy moments with not much passion or spark. Drake and his brothers have all the correct actions, but I couldn't feel it. It just fell flat emotionally for me.

I’m just going to start by saying two things – one, I have never wanted to visit Alaska before. However, after reading this book, it’s officially on my bucket list. Two? This is a book about Alexa and Drake’s second chance at love, however, I think somehow I’m going to add Hollis to my book boyfriend list instead of Drake. Apparently I have a thing for socially awkward doctors. Who knew?
Story Line: Alexa and Drake are high school sweethearts -turned soul mates. Tragedy strikes and Lex’s dad passes away suddenly. He leaves her a letter that changes everything. And by changes everything – I mean everything. She packs up and leaves everything behind, including her perfect male specimen. Fast forward years later and Lex is back to open a clinic in their small town with her college bestie – Hollis. Oh Hollis. You delightfully weird man. He’s an odd ball, but super loyal to Lex in the most platonic way possible. I grew to love him very quickly. But once the clinic opened, the shitstorm ensued. Not a single detail was predictable with this story. It had me questioning everything until the very end. LOVE THAT.
Interaction: The dynamic between Lex and Drake is beautiful. She left him with very little reason as to why. Yet they are able to piece back together everything they used to have – and then some. Drake owns the local bar named the Red Onion (which I totally want a t-shirt by the way) which seems to be a safe zone for all the characters to meet at. I cannot say enough how much I adored this Alaskan town they are living in. Small town. Secluded. Everyone knows your business? Sign me up!
Laundry: This is going to be a first for me. But the laundry in this book wasn’t the best part. There’s laundry – don’t get your underpants in a twist. But it’s absolutely not the focal point of this romance. It’s not kinky. It’s not taboo. It’s two soul mates coming together after years apart. It’s a chaotic world that suddenly stills. Alexa and Drake do not need pages upon pages of dirty, filthy mouthed romping. Their story is much more.
Depth: Alexa’s family gives this story a very slight Cinderella feel. Her mother might as well be referred to as the evil step mother. And her sister? Good lord, that chick needs to get laid in the worst way. She has a stick lodged so far up her rear end, I don’t think she will ever be normal. The story behind the letter Alexa’s dad left her. The property. All of it isn’t as it seems. I loved that I was left guessing the entire length of this book. And to be honestly, I am still in shock over who did what. Yeah, that’s super vague. But you’re not getting any spoilers out of me!

5 Getting the Second Chance You’ve Been Dreaming About Stars!!!
One of the things I love most about Ms. Mayer and her books is she has the ability to switch genres from book to book. Sometimes we get an all-out love story complete with swooning and romance and hot and steamy scenes with the H/h and then she’ll turn around and write a romantic suspense that literally has the “who done it” scene that I NEVER saw coming. This is what we got with Intoxicated by You.
Drake and Alexa had been in love and committed to each other until a fateful night after the death of her father that changed everything about who they were as a couple and as individuals. Fast forward two years and Alexa has come back to her home in Skagway, Alaska and the last thing she wants to do is see Drake because she knows that if she does, her resolve to stay away from him will weaken. And oh my, when they do see each other for the first time I was chuckling because of how the scene unfolds…let’s just say there’s lurking going on!
Once they do reconnect, it’s like the past two years have evaporated and they can’t not be together. They’re each other’s person and how can you not be with your person? You’d think this would be an open and closed case…but alas, Ms. Mayer has weaved a story that involves intrigue, duplicity, snobbishness (from those that shouldn’t be that way), a gossip network that reminds me of Mayberry, RFD with how well orchestrated it is, and Drake and Alexa’s falling back in love and vowing that no matter what, they’d get their HEA.
As the story progresses, the suspense builds, and I was glued to my kindle because I was sure I KNEW who was behind everything. Yeah, not so much!! There are so many wonderful secondary characters in this book too. From the new doctor in town, to Drake’s brothers that are in and of themselves sometimes a riot with the way they all interact. There’s heartbreak in this book too and while I know it was inevitable, I was really hoping there’d be a different outcome for Alexa on both fronts.
This is a book that will keep you guessing until the very end and is one that sets us up for the other books in the series. Along the way, we get swooned and fall in love with Drake and Alexa, get to say, “take that you piece of s***!” and possibly maniacally laugh with the outcome for a few people that I was overjoyed with their comeuppance.
This is a definite must read if you're a fan of writing that is captivating and a story that is well told from beginning to end!!
