A fast-paced fantasy romance with rich characters and immersive storytelling, Searching is the second book in the Fading series by award-winning author Cindy Cipriano.
To say Leath is traveling light is an understatement. She's only bringing three things on her trip. One is a silver heart locket—a gift from her longtime best-friend-turned-boyfriend Victor Santana. Next is a wedding token in the shape of a J, from James Turner. And of course, she's packing her pistol. That's it. She knows that when she leaves Woodvine, even her own mother may not remember her in the shifted reality that will be left behind. Bringing anything else would be pointless. But she's driven now, by something that eclipses everything else, something she just got back: her memories. And now that she remembers James—she won't stop searching until she finds him.
Cindy Cipriano lives in North Carolina with her husband, son and their 27 pets.
Not really.
Just two dogs who think they are children and three cats who think they are raccoons. It only seems as if they make 27. When Cindy isn't writing, she enjoys spending time with her family and the avoidance of cooking.
I’m going to try and write this review without spoilers. This author’s imagination is wo amazing! It really messed with my mind and made me think. What if? What if we didn’t marry the person we have today? Would all those memories be erased and filled in with someone else? What would life be like? This is some of what Leath faces until her memory of her true love comes back to her. Now she is searching for him in a place she shouldn’t be able to find. I hope this didn’t sound like a girl cheating on her guy because it’s nothing like that. You have to read to understand. It’s beyond comprehension. I’m still a big team Victor though lol. I would so much love for this to be made into a movie. I can picture it all in my head. I hope the author has audiobooks made. This is way better than Twilight. It’s magical and mystical. It’s a clean young adult read but as an adult, I also loved it. I do recommend reading the first book The Fading first.
The story can be expected, and it is easy to predict what will happen next, but I still loved this book. The only thing I did not appreciate was the cliffhanger Cindy Cipriano wrote. This cliffhanger is particularly maddening because she has not written the third book yet.
I can’t believe the book ended that way... I was so hooked on the story that when I got to the last page I was shocked that it ended that way.. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.. I really enjoyed reading this series it is so good that I told all my nieces about it..
Searching is book two in the Fading Series. Yes you must read Fading (Book 1) to first to know what is truly going on, but it is so worth every second of it. Which tells you that I have already read and reviewed Fading. After Fading I (somewhat patiently - yes this is me) waited for Searching to be released. Then life got so busy on me that I didn't get to read it right away. Well last night I picked it up. I honestly thought I was going to have to reread Fading to refresh my mind of the story line. I was wrong. After just the first couple pages I was rushed back into Leath's world. Cindy Cipriano has created a world that is so strong and vivid you want to delve into and stay. Her characters are all complex and strong. I'll be honest most books I can generally tell where things are going long before it happens and Searching was NOT one of those books. Cipriano kept me on my toes with her twists and turns. It was like a beautiful dance that I just couldn't stop watching and wanting to learn more. Leath has been left behind in her world but she wants to be with James in his world so badly. So she follows him, against his wishes. James had been banished from Judaculla for returning without his mate, Leath. When Leath finally is able to stumble her way into his world she shocked to find that not only does he not remember her, but his is living on the Fringe. Although, he doesn't remember her the pull of their love is so strong he can't help but want to be near her even though he never wanted her in his world. I know that sounds so odd but in his world women are not always loved by their mates, they are often treated as nothing more than a possession. James had been trying to save Leath from that as a life. Ever saves Leath from being caught on the Fringe after a (well I can't quite tell you that but just know you want to know). Thrust back into her world Leath just wants to get back to her love, James. Yet, when given the choice what will she decide? Meet the new character that Cindy introduces us to Knox. So much changes in Searching that you will be begging Cindy Cipriano for Book 3, I know I am.
After being on the fence about the first book, I went ahead and bought this one because I just had to see the story explained.
I definitely enjoyed this book far more than the first, there was more of an actual plot to it and it delved deeper into the world/the characters which was great. I really enjoyed seeing more of Judaculla and the traditions and more of the characters.
I do think the book got a little tedious with the repetitious ‘fading’ which stopped the flow of the plot, but I understand this is just part of the concept of the world they’re in.
Overall, even with some character tropes that annoyed the hell out of me I’ll give this a 3.5 as I do want to know more and have already got the next book on preorder.
Continuing on from the first book 'fading', this book follows Leath, overcome with love and loss as she takes the leap and goes to the one place she didn't think she'd ever go... Judaculla.
I really enjoyed this book and if I'm honest I didn't expect any less. There was a lot of action especially compared to the first book and it had so much going on. We had the opportunity to learn so much more about the characters and I thoroughly enjoyed finding out about and exploring Judaculla.
I think the authors imagination is amazing, the whole concept of this series is something I've never really read before or even heard of and I love the way it's been executed. I can't wait to see what Leath has decided to do and what exactly is going on.
Cindy Cipriano’s imagination is amazing and to put this creativity into words is mind-blowing. This is a great follow-up book to Fading and I am looking forward to the next book in the series, as this one ended way too fast! I found my heart racing as I read one page in anticipation of turning to the next page. The new characters are fascinating, and I just love the relationships that continue to develop between the main characters. Cindy has a way of making this imaginative other world seem so real. I want to go to Judaculla and see it for myself! Searching is a perfect combination of teenage romance, mystery, fantasy, and suspense. Great clean read! Well done!
I like first book but not so much the second book Feel like this book was rushed and some thing were really off. Like James had a range rover before not a hummer and How he didn't lie about the relay team. Sergio just forgot. I also hate how she flip flops between Victor and James when she clearly stated she was sure her feeling were off. The case was what threw her off. Then last page said otherwise. That's really shady and wrong.
Cindy does it again! I was on the edge of my seat for the entire book. It was completely unpredictable. I feel so strongly about these characters that the wait for the next book is going to be so hard! The Fading series is like a series I didn't know how much I needed until I read it. So many books that I read follow a similar pattern but not these and that makes me so happy! Now I need to know what Leath decides!
After I finish Fading the first book. I bought this second book and finished it in a matter of hours. I just couldn't put it down. I just had to find out what happened next. Caught in this whirl wind of a story I just can't wait for the next books to find out how it ends. It is a story that when you put it down the characters stay with you. You develop an idea about the twists and turns and you find out that it is all different. Awesome writing. Thank you.
A great sequel to the first story. The imaginative Judaculla has me intrigued to know more and the characters become a lot more real to you in this book. The book ends with a cliff hanger and I need the third book to come out now! Excited for the next book in this series.
Once I started reading I couldn't get through it fast enough. This fast paced and exciting, never a dull spot, left me wanting more and more story is one I will recommend over and over.
Now this is what a continuation should be like. The plot thickens (and twists!), the tables turn, and the lore is revealed. If you loved the first book, but wanted it to get wilder, weirder, and more dramatic, then you're in for a treat. But I assure you: you're not prepared.
The worldbuilding is delightfully creepy. (I wish I'd gotten a better visual on this other world, but the society is present, creepy, and makes me very much NOT want to be there.) There are new mysteries, things that don't add up, which all make more reasons to second guess every decision. Like the first book, this one is SO engaging on the basis that you know neither what is going to happen nor what Leath should do about it. She remains fun to follow, with the confusion, bravery, and extreme emotions of teen-dom.
Honestly, the personal enjoyment factor was off the charts. It's as though Cindy heard my every wish. "I want to see Judaculla and its wacky societal rules," I said, and boom, it was done. The other week, I was telling a friend, "You know what I love? Adding angst to a romance with some amnesia," and I received just that. "Cindy," I whined, "let James be a little evil! It's fun that way!" and she delivered.
Great 2nd offering with a creepy twist. I wanted more of Judacalla (spelling?) because it's so crazy. Interesting spin on this clean YA romance series.
Storyline is very unrealistic and all over the place. There were a lot of typos as well. I will probably read the third book just to find out how it ends.
I really enjoyed the beginning of this book, and as a whole I liked this book much better than the first. I think the beginning could have been more stretched out.
The middle was okay, I don’t really like how Leaths personality is when she’s with James. It’s very dramatic.
All in all, this series would have been much better stretched out with more descriptions and more of a magical aspect to it. The ending was interesting and I’m considering getting the next book when it comes out, I enjoyed the cliffhanger.
