Sid is on the fast-track to having everything he’s ever supposed to have wanted - the prestigious job, the nice apartment, the long-term partner. Governed by quarterly targets, endless to-do lists and perennial anxiety, he is on-course to burn out at twenty-three. He’s so wrapped up in external expectations that he barely knows how unhappy he is. Yet one day, on the cusp of promotion, something happens. Not only does Sid see his life for what it is, but gradually realizes that only he can make it change.
Bowling takes the eternal song of human self-discovery and transposes it into twenty-first century urban life. The story moves from the fluorescent-lit offices of Washington, D.C. to a Buddhist monastery in Bordeaux, via the Californian deserts and Tuscan hills. It’s a journey of moving and standing still, of searching for home and finding it in unfamiliar places - and people.
