Two options for the right: manufacture an expensive crisis and then say that you can't afford spending for the public good or underfund something so spectaculary and follow it up by complaining that its broken so you can replace it with something capitalist in nature (ie. to make money).
This issue was more about the failed social revolutions of the 60's, something we are taught was not a worldwide phenomenon but certainly was. One article was about the unrest in France led by students and unions but who couldn't collaborate enough to win electorally. In the USA, a similar vein but also the fight the civil rights. The weakened unions strikingly conservative when compared to the overly righteous students. They could not agree on Vietnam and had different takes on civil rights. Once the civil rights movement and unions started working closely-Memphis and King during his Poor People's Campaign it truly scared the right.
