The only thing Clint Wolf and Susan Wilson want to do is get married, but when a man is murdered in a most embarrassing way--shot to death while sitting on a porta potty--their wedding plans are placed in serious jeopardy. With only eight days to go until they say their vows, Clint and Susan go to work trying to find out who might want to kill the victim. There are a number of likely suspects and they all seem to have good reasons for wanting the man dead, but Clint and Susan must figure out who hated him the most.
As they work their way through the evidence in search of the truth, they are unknowingly headed for a deadly confrontation. Before it's all over, bullets will start flying and people are going to die...and if they're not careful, one of them might not make it to the altar.

This is a series where you have to read the books in order or you will be somewhat lost. I read every series in order. Once again I liked all the regular and secondary regular cast of characters cast of characters. I thought the story flowed pretty good. I thought the location was covered with pretty good and I felt like I was in the south. I thought the crime was good and the reason for it was sound however some aspects of the bad guys were the top or just not plausible. I feel it could have been a better story but it was decent as it was. I do think he needs to cut down on the use of exclamation marks and a few silly phrases. I did think this book was a little below average for the series but it was worth reading . I say go ahead and give this series a spin
Bourg’s 6th offering in the Clint Wolf crime thriller series has the Chief Investigator for the Mechant Loup Police Department following the evidence as to whom may have shot a carnival worker while he was taking his break in a Porta-Potty. Notifying the family of Chester’s death was no easy task. The man lived deep in the Louisiana Bayou and his three grown children discourage any visitors/trespassers by wielding firearms. And then there are the gators and snakes. Clint and Melvin meet up again with the huge gator they nicknamed Godzater. Yikes! There are multiple suspects and an unusual twist or two. Enjoy!
It wasn’t so much the story and maybe I’m just an old curmudgeon but twice the author had to describe someone going to the bathroom, YUK. Why would that make the story a better read? I’m clueless.
It also is getting boring when it seems like Clint Wolf sees his wife to be, has to describe her sexually. Come on enough already. We get it she’s hot! A couple of times I can accept but over and over again, boring. There are more scenes that are sexually focused, that in my opinion adds nothing of value to the story other than cheap titillations. Maybe some people need it to make the story worthy of reading, not me, I can do without.
Still like the plots but it seems the author keeps increasing the cheap titillations with each new book. If that becomes the norm, he’ll loose me as a reader.
A murder and a wedding. The murder has just happened but the wedding of Clint and Susan, less than a week away, won't be taking place unless the crime is solved. The dead man, Chester Raymond, lived off the grid with his family in an inaccessible and dangerous part of the Louisiana Bayou. While working at the yearly fairground he is gunned down while using a porta-potty. As always Clint's investigation is meticulous but the more he uncovers about Chester the greater the number of suspects becomes. When the killer is uncovered it leads to a totally unexpected and extremely violent finale (Godzator, the giant alligator from an earlier book, makes an explosive return!) Phew, there's still time to go ahead with the wedding :) 4 Stars.
Clint is smiling, happier than he had been in a long time. The music from the festival, the smell of the food, and the woman he loved. She could take care of herself, he wouldn’t have to worry so much about her. Festival is a family event, and two men having an argument, words were spoken about Chester grouping his wife, and words I’ll kill you. Susan and Clint was brought over to check it out. He was one of the carnival operators, but no one has seen for awhile. Finding him with seven shots in torso, now finding the killer. Clint wonders if wedding will delayed. Susan says no way even if they have to quit their jobs. Tense plot to figure out.
When book six begins we are days away from Clint and Susan’s wedding when a murder occurs at the town fair. And thanks a problem because if the murder isn’t solved there won’t be a wedding...talk about pressure!
When a murder occurs at the fair Clint has a dead guy in a porta potty and a possible suspect. Then he’s got another suspect, then another...
The story takes some interesting twists and turns and there’s an action packed climax with help from a surprising and unlikely source. (Which might have been my favorite part!)
And all is well and the mothers can breathe easy as it all occurs in time for the wedding to still take place.
And the crazy life of Clint and Susan continues...
This one starts out with someone getting murdered in a porta potty at the county fair... Yes ! and what happens after that is crazy and a little creepy. The mystery and drama grows as Clint tries to solve the porta potty murder, in time for his marriage to Susan. This story a Great Mystery, with a little humor mixed in. The same Great characters, with some new characters that were totally Creepy. The ending was Awesome ! Godzater makes an appearance, and becomes a Hero ! Fun read and an Awesome mystery....
'But Not Forbidden' was another great add to a fantastic series, 'A Clint Wolf Novel'. Well written and well played out. The story line pulled me in from the start and didn't let go. Clint makes a great lead. His determination and drive make for a great read. Susan is the best partner for Clint. Their dynamic, both personal and professional, is unparalleled. They compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses. I look forward to reading more. Definitely a must add to your tbr list. Recommended.
I FEEL LIKE CLINT, PEOPLE STAY ON THEIR CELL PHONES WAY TOO MUCH, THEY MISS SO MUCH BECAUSE OF THEIR DAMN CELL PHONES. THIS WAS THE PREFECT BOOK TO READ WHILE “SAY YES TO THE DRESS” IS PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND ON TV. I WAS ON PINS & NEEDLES WHILE CLINT WAS ON THAT TRIP TO THE FORBIDDEN SWAMP. YIKES! ‘D
This Clint Wolf novel was a little different for me. I usually give five stars for these books. But this one was a little disappointing . The story line was between a wedding begin delay and homicide hunting in the swamps . However I will move on to the next book in this series in hopes of recapturing Clint Wolf Mysteries.
This is the 5th in the Clint Wolf series for me. Interesting story but appears somewhat implausible (e.g., family living in almost completely unapproachable and completely isolated part of Louisiana which even Law Enforcement officers have not heard of and dread to visit). The ending was completely unexpected.
As Clint and Susan prepare for their wedding, there is a murder at the fair that threatens the wedding. The victim is from the forbidden swamp, and Clint and Melvin must go and notify the family. As the wedding approaches, the pressure builds for Clint. Great reading and fast-paced
BJ Bourg is the best at writing these fantastic novels. The Clint Wolf novels are fantastic reads. I have, thoroughly, enjoyed reading each one. Totally, ready, for the next book!
This is my favorite yet .lots of excitement and lots of suspects to choose from .who murdered the carney?? Was it the hulk or one of many other colorful characters?? The truth will shock you just like it did me..you can't go wrong with this book.
This series keeps getting better and better! A shocking murder at a traveling carnival has Clint and Susan scrambling to solve the case. The wedding is fast approaching and if everything is not settled with the case, they will have to postpone everything. This is a great who dunit!
Another great book . Looking forward to reading more of his writing. From his resume of experience paperwork was part of the job, usually dreaded. However thank goodness he is still writing!!! WB.
The wedding day is approching but when a man is murdered at the annual Mechant Loop funfair, this may postone the wedding. Clint Wolf andf his team have a deadline to find the motive and the killer. Another enjoyable thriller in this series
I really liked this one but it was really an odd one... all the way to the end. LA is a unique state and has areas very different from the rest of the country, and this Clint Wolf mystery definitely included some of those areas. Wow!
Great installment to this series! TI have always been guessing right up until the end who the killer was, this time was no different. I was sure I had this one figured out, I was wrong! I truly love this series!
They say it's a whole different world in the swamps... Clint & Melvin are about to find out. If they make it out in time for Clints wedding without running into Godzator.
A man is shot as he sat in a portable toilet at the town festival. A pickup was moved from its' parking area. How can the two be connected? Several suspects were questioned before the surprise ending.
The narrative of The Forbidden Swamp was so discriptive I swear I could smell the "Swamp Gas" & "feel the mud sucking at my boots!" I thought this one might be the one that delayed the wedding for good!
Typical Clint Wolf but a considerably different tale with the swamp people and the issues of a wedding. Confusing in its web of deceit and greed, it kept me off track until the end and then proceeded too rapidly to what became an anticlimactic end.
