「案件製造者」鳴澤了又調職了。
轉調東多摩警署的當日，一名小學女生在調布地區失踨，兩天後，被害者家屬收到一綹來自少女的頭髮。東多摩警署旋即成立搜查本部偵辦此案。
然而，綁架案接二連三發生，短短一個月間竟有三名女童遇害。警方最後循線逮捕了連續綁架殺害女童的兇手間島重歸案。

間島輕易坦承了自己所有的犯行，在偵訊過程中證詞前後也無任何矛盾之處，因此警方認為他有完整的行為能力，應負完全的刑事責任，但也擔心間島詭異的態度，會讓其行為能力與精神狀態在法院成為攻防焦點。
於是，鳴澤了與搭檔萩尾聰子為了找到更多的佐證，前往第一名被殺害女童埋屍處，並聽取了當地地主的證詞。在回程途中，眼前一輛停在路肩白色小客車突然爆炸，導致警車受到波及，兩人也受了輕傷。

回到警署後，此時刑事課收到了歹徒的犯案聲明：「放了間島，否則爆炸將會繼續。」果真，第二起爆炸案接踵而來。警方不得不擴大搜查，並著手追查爆炸案與綁架案之間的關係。
到底，間島為何殺害女童？爆炸案歹徒為何不惜造成城市恐慌，也要救出間島？而最終，法律是否能讓所有正義得已伸張？

走到哪兒，案子就跟哪兒的鳴澤了，這會兒又會追出什麼驚人內幕！？

A serial killer was caught after killing three little girls, but before his trial, bomb threats had been made to the police in demand of this murderer's release? Who would want to see a known dangerous child killer and psychopath to be released back to the society? For what reason?

I like the murder mystery part of the story and the explanation behind the bomb-threats (the daughter of a gangster was also killed and became the fourth victim, but instead of calling the police, the gangster hid her corpse and went after the murderer himself? Cool.), the supporting characters might not stand out that much but the MC is pretty delightful to read about. 4 stars.

PS: let me tell you one thing: hoping to read more books during self-isolation and work-from-home period during the time of the freaking WuHan virus outbreak probably doesn't work so good, I still have ton of unread and half-finished books to work on. *sighs*
