The Street Dog Who Found a Home

Rate this book

A heartwarming true animal story, for fans of A Dog's Purpose, A Street Cat Named Bob and Marley & Me. When Chewy the dog arrives at the animal sanctuary run by the inimitable Barby Keel, the scrawny little dog is terrified. Having been abandoned by his beloved owner, who is himself homeless, Chewy's whole world has been turned upside down. After years of sleeping on the streets, Chewy knows what it is to be cold and hungry, to have nowhere safe to stay, no warm bed to sleep on, no regular food or time to play. Despite her resolve to not get too attached to the animals that come into her care, Barby cannot help but feel there is something special about this little dog. Soon he won't let Barby out of his sight, and in doing so works his way into her heart. But some scars run too deep and it takes every ounce of Barby's patience to help Chewy heal from the traumas of his past. In doing so, Barby learns that in healing others, we often heal ourselves. A Street Cat Named Bob meets Marley & Me, The Street Dog Who Found a Home is a beautifully uplifting and heartwarming tale of the love and friendship that exists between humans and animals.

Okay, I just had to read this book after just finishing her other book Will You Love Me...The Rescue Dog.

This book is ten years later than our lovely greyhound story.

A short story, and here with have an update on Barby Keel and her great team of volunteers, the battles that she has faced, since 2002 (Will You Love Me?), now Barby in ten years older, beaten cancer twice, suffered a heart attack, now suffering from diabetes (like myself), still going but no doubt being told off by the staff/volunteers to slow down.

Barby in now 83-84 years old, and although many loyal volunteers, very much still involved, still as stubborn and before.

This time when Chewy is brought in to the Sanctuary, I think it's love at first site, but is Chewy going to be re-homed or stay ?

A lot has happened between these two books, and sadly Barby keeps going but friends and volunteers has passed as well of many of her own dogs, never forgotten !

Barby, you are a stubborn, tough woman, and this has helped you through so much, I admire you
Highly recommended.

A charming novella in the "Foster tails" series.
Mark is homeless and living rough on the beach with his dog Chewy.
Chewy adores Mark but is struggling with life on the road.
Eventually Mark gives Chewy up to the Barby Keel sanctuary for a better life but Chewy is distraught at losing his master and this could jeopardise his chances at being rehomed to his separation anxiety issues.
Who would take him on like this?
But Barby is starting to fall head over heels for him, can there be a bright future for this sad little dog?
A quick read with a sweet story for all the dog lovers among us.

Given away because he was so loved so he could have a better future

Very moving I couldn't put it down. My nephew was homeless and had a much loved dog who he would feed before himself so this story really hit home. Was so glad he settled and accepted love again
