James Tiptree Jr.
244 books588 followers"James Tiptree Jr." was born Alice Bradley in Chicago in 1915. Her mother was the writer Mary Hastings Bradley; her father, Herbert, was a lawyer and explorer. Throughout her childhood she traveled with her parents, mostly to Africa, but also to India and Southeast Asia. Her early work was as an artist and art critic. During World War II she enlisted in the Army and became the first American female photointelligence officer. In Germany after the war, she met and married her commanding officer, Huntington D. Sheldon. In the early 1950s, both Sheldons joined the then-new CIA; he made it his career, but she resigned in 1955, went back to college, and earned a Ph.D. in experimental psychology.
At about this same time, Alli Sheldon started writing science fiction. She wrote four stories and sent them off to four different science fiction magazines. She did not want to publish under her real name, because of her CIA and academic ties, and she intended to use a new pseudonym for each group of stories until some sold. They started selling immediately, and only the first pseudonym—"Tiptree" from a jar of jelly, "James" because she felt editors would be more receptive to a male writer, and "Jr." for fun—was needed. (A second pseudonym, "Raccoona Sheldon," came along later, so she could have a female persona.)
Tiptree quickly became one of the most respected writers in the field, winning the Hugo Award for The Girl Who was Plugged In and Houston, Houston, Do You Read?, and the Nebula Award for "Love is the Plan, the Plan is Death" and Houston, Houston. Raccoona won the Nebula for "The Screwfly Solution," and Tiptree won the World Fantasy Award for the collection Tales from the Quintana Roo.
The Tiptree fiction reflects Alli Sheldon's interests and concerns throughout her life: the alien among us (a role she portrayed in her childhood travels), the health of the planet, the quality of perception, the role of women, love, death, and humanity's place in a vast, cold universe. May 29, 2018Uzaktan Kumandalı Kız, bilimkurgunun siberpunk alt türünde yazılmış bir antikapitalist kısa roman. Hatta romancık bile diyebiliriz kendisine, zira 72 sayfalık bir hacme sahip.
Kitap reklam kelimesinin kendisinin bile sansürlendiği, reklamların insanlar gözlerinden tamamen saklandığı bir gelecekte geçiyor. Ne kadar güzel, değil mi? Ama durun, çünkü işler çok ama çok tanıdık bir hâle gelecek. Çünkü en ufak şekilde reklama kayacak şeyler ciddi kontrol mekanizmalarının denetimi altındayken kaçak bir yol bulunmuş bile: İkonlar. Evet evet, hani şu bizim sosyal medya ikonları gibi. Markaların reklamlarını yapabilmek için bu ikonları giydirip kuşatması, ürünlerini kullandırtması gibi. Tek farkı, bu ikonların tasarlanması. Bir çeşit android gibi düşünün yani. Öte yandan kendilerine ait bir beyinleri olmadığı için onları kontrol edecek birine ihtiyaç duyuyorlar. Yerin altına gömüp gün yüzü göstermeyecek, bu güzeller güzeli bedene âşık olacak ve şirketlerin bu küçük(!) sırrını sonuna kadar saklayacak türden hem yetenekli hem de zavallı operatörlere…
Ah, P.Burke burada sahneye giriyor. Kitabın ilk paragraflarında anlatıcısı tarafından aşağılanmaya başlayan, çenesinden gözünün altına kadar mosmor bir doğum lekesiyle doğmuş, çarpık bedenli, kambur bir ucube o. Ama şimdi fırsat ayağına geldi. Hayatında hiç olmadığı kadar güzel olarak, insanların onun dudaklarından bir çift kelime duyabilmek için ölecek hâle gelişine şahit olarak yaşayabilir. Tabii buna yaşamak denirse… Ne de olsa, uzaktan kumandayla kontrol edip asla yaşananları birebir tecrübe edemeyeceği, basbayağı bir aldatmacanın içinde yaşayacağı bir hayattan bahsediyoruz. Bir ucube daha ne isteyebilir ki?

Tiptree, Jr.’ın üslubu, özellikle başkarakter P. Burke’e olan yaklaşımı, Süskind’in Jean-Baptiste Grenouille’a olan yaklaşımını son derece andırıyor. Başrol biçtiği ana karaktere karşı aynı tiksinti, aynı hor görü ve aynı doğrudanlığı taşıyor.
Bu kısacık roman 70’lerde yazılmış ve arka kapağında bize bir distopya sunduğu söyleniyor olsa da, günümüz bundan daha korkunç bir hâlde. Emin olun.
En azından Uzaktan Kumandalı Kız’ın dünyasında reklamlar yasaklanmış, adı bile anılmaz halde. Pek biz ne yapıyoruz? Kafamızı çevirdiğimiz her yerdeki billboardlar, TV’lerde sonu gelmek bilmeyen reklamlar, internette izlediğimiz videolarda, sosyal medyada bile karşımıza çıkan tanıtımlar… Radyolarda cingıllar… Bunlar da yetmiyormuş gibi sosyal medya ikonlarımız var bir de, değil mi? Kendi Delphi’lerimiz. Birileri tarafından yaratılmamış olsa da “birileri” tarafından yapılmış kadın ve erkek Delphi’lerimiz…
Bir günde bitecek, belki başlarda çok da etkilemeyecek, ama dikkatli gözlere sunacak çok şeyi olan bir kitap var karşınızda. Ben okunması yönünde kullanıyorum oyumu.

Ooh La La. This novella is transgressive, morally bankrupt, and takes a long, cyber-punky dive into the world of outward-facing beauty and body influence. From one extreme to the next, we follow P. Burke, a non-attractive teen who attempts to end it all but is halted by a bureaucracy and offered a job.
This job consists of transforming her body, showing off products, driving around in “sun-cars”, living large, and disappearing from everyone she knows.
After a brief mind-to-body transfer, the new job teaches her how to walk, talk, interact, and sell her personality. Here is a fascinating quote about how it all works:
|| "When you wash your hands, do you feel the water is running on your brain? Of course not. You feel the water on your hand, although the "feeling" is actually a potential-pattern flickering over the electrochemical jelly between your ears." ||
** If Mona Awad partnered with William Gibson and took on a pseudo-cyber tech novel, I can see it being something similar to this story. **
There is something artful about how the author blends concepts like transference with complex issues like body image. My experience with it was sort of like viewing an experimental art installation. The visual language might be leading you to feel a certain way or take interpretations and graft them onto your personal worldview / experiences. This books sporadic narrative and themes of cognitive dissonance might make you 😐 and check out, but if you stick with it, the themes and ideas of femininity, cultural resonance, love, and influence become clear.

P. Burke, or Delphi, as she’s called now, hits it big! || "She's in gigabuck mainstream now, at the funnel maw of the unceasing hose that's pumping the sight and sound and flesh and blood and sobs and laughs and dreams of reality into the world's happy head." ||
At this point in the story, I must mention that the last third delves into a love story. I’ll say nothing about it because it is so incredibly powerful. It has a build-up like the first time you read Romeo and Juliet. That pit in the stomach sours, and the nervousness cascades over you until the last few sentences. There is no possible way that your heart will not go out to P. Burke. The struggle is relatable, her treatment is relatable, and that twist is so incredibly mind-blowing.
|| "So, it never crosses his mind as he looks down at his violated bird, sick with fury and love, that he isn't holding all of her. Do you need to be told the mad resolve jelling in him now? To free Delphi." ||
The novella was absolutely incredible in my opinion and one I will be thinking of for a very long time. Even though it was written in the early 1970’s, it captures a radiating viewpoint of the modern world today and so succinctly captures that want for acceptance. I can easily say this is best novella I think I have ever read.
**One other quick note. Check out the author’s story. She led an extraordinary life. It was tragic, but she seemed like a true wonder-woman.**

Alice "Bradley" Sheldon was an American science-fiction writer who wrote under the pen name of James Tiptree, Jr. She kept her gender secret for most of her career. This novella, The Girl Who Was Plugged In, won the Hugo Award for best science-fiction in 1974.

“It’s a lucky girl who can have all the fun she wants while doing good for others, isn’t it?”
Published in 1973, James Tiptree Jr may not have created cyberpunk, but pretty much wrote cyberpunk. The only major thing missing is the injection of The New Frontier trope. Full on cyberspace found in Neuromancer isn’t present. When people discuss proto-cyberpunk fiction this short fiction piece should be a major component, especially when looking for non-masculine works within the-subgenre that don’t get put on must-read lists as much as they ought to (I’m working on mine presently, by the way).
In just 36 pages, it tells the story of 17-year-old P. Burke in the near future who makes a suicide attempt that is denied by a bureaucracy. Instead, she is offered a job presented as the opportunity of a lifetime. She is to be a remote, broadcasting her consciousness into a 15-year-old clone with receivers built into it, but otherwise completely devoid of sentience. This body is crafted into the ideal image for the consumers who will be watching her on a feed. The job? Simply live her life, entertaining the consumers glued to their feeds, what are explicitly drawn to her as a desirable commodity, even though we know as the reader her job is essentially Sex Sells. Her actual objective is to use selected products she’s supposed to like so that others may see them and buy them. After all, they are the best products if she likes them.

If possible, worse than before. (You thought this was Cinderella transistorized?)”
It’s capitalism as we know it with one major difference: there are no ads. They’ve been banned. Kind of. The neon-tinged fever dream-like streets we’ve come to associate with cyberpunk focuses on the way in which people living in capitalism become consumers in unsuspecting ways. Although there are no ads exactly, this only means companies have adapted, creating new ways of getting people to buy. Most predominantly: product placement. I imagine this might just be starting as a thing in 1973, but I couldn’t speak intelligently on that. Turns out it was reasonable anxiety to have back then; go figure.

Even when Delphi—the persona which was created for the real live P Burke, described as being an ugly woman and is kept in a basement somewhere—accrues said power, temporarily becoming indispensable because she is a tastemaker—her power is only a loan, and as fleeting as the masses interest; never truly accrued and earned and kept like the puppeteers behind the scenes truly benefiting from societal structures. And it also has very real limits, as we find out.
“Don’t worry about a thing. You’ll have people behind you whose job it is to select the most worthy products for you to use. Your job is just to do as they say. They’ll show you what outfits to wear at parties, what suncars and viewers to buy, and so on. That’s all you have to do.”
When she meets a young man who falls in love with her, his desire is linked to her body only. Even though he is the son of the man who owns the company and described as essentially woke and awake of the ways in which the system preys upon the weak. He does not know that a remote exists. He never actually sees the woman behind Delphi, even though everything beyond her presentation is present as well. He doesn’t want to know her mind. His rage is tied to his ability to own his notion of what a free Delphi is, never asking her what she wants or needs. The comfortable feeling that what he wants to consume is in front of him parallels the damage well-meaning allies, that are actually just a part of the same system of control, visit on people tied up in systemic oppression is disturbingly articulate.
A biting critique throughout, and a through line for non-masculine cyberpunk works, it’s a formative piece of literature for the sub-genre. One that does not feature some of the more problematic aspects first wave cyberpunk often is critiqued for.

While the world is brutal to the protagonist, like pretty much all cyberpunk, the marginalization of and fetishization of P. Burke, as she is referred to in the text, is the entire point of the story, serving to critique societal structures. Even with this critique present, there is also no feeling of the male gaze perforating the short fiction. It some ways it is as large contrast between some of the more typical first wave cyberpunk and the non-masculine works found in the sub-genre. Certainly, nothing could surpass it in this condensed a demonstration of the contrast, anyway.
It becomes even more unsettling in its presentation, which feels very much as though you’re a viewer of a program yourself, being taken for a ride that is exciting and supposed to be acceptable. Watching P. Burke’s rise and fall written like a program written you’re going to enjoy when you ought to feel sick.
“…showbiz has something TV and Hollywood never had—automated inbuilt viewer feedback. Samples, ratings, critics, polls? Forget it. With that carrier field you can get real-time response-sensor readouts from every receiver in the world, served up at your console. That started as a thingie to give the public more influence on content.

Try it, man. You’re at the console. Slice to the sex-age-educ-econ-ethno-cetera audience of your choice and start. You can’t miss. Where the feedback warms up, give ‘em more of that. Warm—warmer—hot! You’ve hit it—the secret itch under those hides, the dream in those hearts. You don’t need to know its name. With your hand controlling all input and your eye reading all the response, you can make them a god…and somebody’ll do the same for you.”.
Published in 1973, James Tiptree Jr may not have created cyberpunk, but pretty much wrote cyberpunk. The only major thing missing is the injection of The New Frontier trope. Full on cyberspace found in Neuromancer isn’t present. When people discuss proto-cyberpunk fiction this short fiction piece should be a major component, especially when looking for non-masculine works within the-subgenre that don’t get put on must-read lists as much as they ought to (I’m working on mine presently, by the way).
In just 36 pages, it tells the story of 17-year-old P. Burke in the near future who makes a suicide attempt that is denied by a bureaucracy. Instead, she is offered a job presented as the opportunity of a lifetime. She is to be a remote, broadcasting her consciousness into a 15-year-old clone with receivers built into it, but otherwise completely devoid of sentience. This body is crafted into the ideal image for the consumers who will be watching her on a feed. The job? Simply live her life, entertaining the consumers glued to their feeds, what are explicitly drawn to her as a desirable commodity, even though we know as the reader her job is essentially Sex Sells. Her actual objective is to use selected products she’s supposed to like so that others may see them and buy them. After all, they are the best products if she likes them.

It’s capitalism as we know it with one major difference: there are no ads. They’ve been banned. Kind of. The neon-tinged fever dream-like streets we’ve come to associate with cyberpunk focuses on the way in which people living in capitalism become consumers in unsuspecting ways. Although there are no ads exactly, this only means companies have adapted, creating new ways of getting people to buy. Most predominantly: product placement. I imagine this might just be starting as a thing in 1973, but I couldn’t speak intelligently on that. Turns out it was reasonable anxiety to have back then; go figure.

James Tiptree Jr or Alice Sheldon has escaped my radar until now.
This fascinating novella takes on a sureal view of re birth or progression within technology. The main theme being to control or need to possess/influence. While managing to keep hold of the basic wants or weaknesses of human kind we are taken on a journey to explore the exploited. I found this a great introduction to her work and a great place to start for me. I will be reading more of her work. Why is this lady not more widely talked about. This is very good sci-fi

Estoy haciendo memoria y repasando lecturas que he hecho este año, algunas no las había puesto todavía por aquí para mantener el misterio...
Desde el Celsius quería meter algún relato de James Tiptree Jr./Alice Bradley en el listado de cuentos para el último trimestre del año, pero finalmente no me decanté por ninguno. De todos, quizás éste fue mi favorito y por eso lo recuerdo perfectamente: en un futuro distópico la PUBLICIDAD ES ILEGAL. ¿Cómo sortean eso las macroempresas? Colándote los productos en la vida de las celebrities... espera, eso me suena de algo. Vale, esto ya de por sí es una premisa de traca, pero es que además las empresas "cultivan" celebrities artificiales que enchufan a personas reales para que les den "vida", de ahí el título y todo el meollo de la historia.
No es un mal relato largo o novella, la idea está muy bien e incluso bien llevada a cabo para lo chungo que se podía poner el percal, pero la narrativa es demasiado embrollada y farragosa, le sobran páginas y hacia la mitad se empieza a liar un poco ella sola. Cada vez me gusta menos perder el tiempo, lo sé, es fallo mío; pero aunque puedo perder lo que haga falta en artículos científicos o una novela clásica; en el formato breve no lo perdono nunca.
En 1974 ganó el Hugo a mejor novella y quizás para entonces este modo de contar era más llevadero. No tenían smartphones.

30-40 yıl öncesinden günümüz influencerlarına (ne demekse) bir gönderme gibi. Dilini (çeviri kaynaklı da olabilir) çok sevmesem de konusunu ve kurgusunu çok başarılı buldum.

Yikes. Hard to believe this won a Hugo for best novella (1974). Conceptually compelling, but the storytelling is a disaster. Fragmented, awkward and uninteresting. Starts with a kind of cyberpunk, anti-corporate theme, but takes a wrong turn at Albuquerque and becomes something else entirely less compelling.
God knows what's happening to the people or the earth or the other planets, maybe. One great big vortex of lies and garbage pouring round and round getting bigger and bigger and nothing can ever change.

Written in 1973, "The Girl Who Was Plugged In" won the Hugo award for its category and was nominated for the Nebula and the Locus awards. It's well deserving of its accolades, and fifty years later, it has aged as I have - a little grey around the edges, but still sharp as a tack and insightful as hell (haha!)
The girl is P. (Philadelphia) Burke, an abused, suicidal teenager whose consciousness is transmitted into a living, brainless waldo doll, whose new job is to buy products publicly in an effort to get around advertising laws. As the beautiful Delphi becomes a celebrity in her new, jet-setting life, P. Burke becomes a hulk in a wired cabinet, taken out to eat and walk and poop, most likely.
Of course, all good things must come to an end, and that end comes abruptly when Delphi (and P. Burke) encounters the handsome Paul Isham, son of one of the big wigs. Love, and heartbreak, quickly follow.
A very good read. I need more Tiptree in my life.

Bilim kurgu klasiklerinin seneler öncesinde yazılmış olmalarına rağmen günümüzü yansıtan fikirler barındırmalarına her seferinde şaşırıyorum. Kitapta uzaktan kumanda ile yönetilerek reklam yapma amaçlı kullanılan “tanrılar” bana günümüzdeki influencer tayfayı hatırlattı örneğin. Ayrıca yine çoğu bilim kurgu klasiğinde olduğu gibi bunda da sistem eleştirileri mevcut.
Kitapta ilgimi çeken ve beğendiğim diğer bir nokta ise ana karakterimizin gerçek hayatında yazarın tabiriyle tam bir hilkat garibesi olup eline bir fırsat geçmesiyle (spoiler) bu zamana kadar hiç deneyimle(ye)mediği bambaşka bir hayatı yaşayabilmesi. Günümüzde sosyal medyada sahte bir hesap açıp tamamen farklı bir kişi gibi davranmaya benzettim bu durumu.
Kısacık ama güzel bir hikayeydi. Bir okuyun derim.

I think this might be the first cyberpunk novel. Tiptree's style is gripping and so contemporary feeling. Tiptree was also remarkably prescient about future technology. Reading this in 2017, I am stunned it was written way back in 1973. The world in the story is so close to our digital surrogate dominated society. It's easy to see why William Gibson loved it. I can't recommend this work highly enough. It's exciting and mind-bending and dark and so true...

İlk olarak hediye olarak gelen bu kitabı okumuş olmaktan çok mutluyum. Benim için çok güzel bir tercih yapılmış. :) Bir oturuşta okuyup bitirilecek kitaplardan biri.İnsanı insan yapan bilinci midir? Ruh mu bedene hapistir yoksa beden mi ruha? Kitabın arka kapağında tanıtımında yazan bu soru gerçekten insanı ayrı düşündürüyor. P.Burke'ün yaşadıkları, bu yeni bedeni nasıl sahiplendiği ve kendini artık öyle görmesi. Özellikle kendini öldürüp Delphi'nin vücudunda hayata geleceğini düşünmüş olması da bunun en büyük göstergesi.Bu hikaye oturup düşünmenize bir şeyleri sorgulamanıza neden oluyor. Bir yıldız kırma sebebim kitabın daha uzun olup tüm bu olanları daha da irdelemesini isterdim. Bir şeylerin biraz yarım kaldığını hissettirdi.

Alice Sheldon'ın okurla sohbet eder gibi yazması çok hoş. Sadece sohbet etmiyor, bunu oldukça muzip şekilde yapıyor. Anlatıcı üslubunu çok başka bir seviyeye çıkarmış bu durum.
Reklamların, işbirliklerinin arasında kaldığımız şu çağda, mesajı çok net alınabilen bir kara gelecek senaryosu.

I had always problems with Cyberpunk, a few years ago I tried to read William Gibson and Neal Stephenson and didnt work.
This one is a short novel, also I made it. I finished it.
There is a good idea about anticapitalism and very good 2 characters: P. Burke and Delphi. I loved the meanings what they represent. But the stil of Triptree(or Mrs. Sheldon) didnt work on me. Boring and dark. Nevertheless that was a good novel about today's world. If you understand that the story has been writen back in 80's, then you will wonder: God's Sake, Woman! How did you see that?!

Kulağa ütopik gelse de bu dünya yine bir şekilde kocaman bir distopyaya dönüşüyor. Üreticiler ürünlerini bir şekilde satmak zorunda, müşteriye bir şekilde ulaşmak zorunda. Bu yasağı delmenin yolunu da günümüzde olduğu gibi aslında fenomenler yaratarak bulmuşlar. Uzaktan kontrol edilen yapay bedenler ile hem de!
Hikayemiz de hayattan umudunu kesmiş, intihar girişiminde bulunmuş fakat ölmeyi de becerememiş kahramanımızın hastane odasında hayatının değişmesini konu alıyor. GTX isimli firma tarafından kendisine mükemmel bir bedeni kontrol etme fırsatı sunulur. Acınası hayatını bırakıp yepyeni bir bedende doğmayı kabul eden kahramanımızın tek yapması gereken şey bir nevi gizli reklam yapmaktır. Bu işi çok iyi kotarsa da önüne büyük bir engel çıkar... Aşık olur.

Uzaktan Kumandalı Kız'ın konusu, günümüz şartlarıyla değerlendirildiğinde pek de şaşırtıcı değil. Sonuçta sosyal medya ünlüleri hayatımızın bir parçası haline geldi bile. Hiç sevmesek de bilgisayarlarda, televizyonlarda, telefonlarda, hatta sinemada bile onlarla karşılaşıyoruz. Dolayısıyla reklamın devlet tarafından yasaklanması ilginç bir fikir olmakla beraber, bu reklamın artık popüler kültür ikonları / tanrılar ile yapılıyor olması zaten alışık olduğumuz bir durum. Yalnız bunun 1973'te, reklamın altın çağını yaşadığı 40'ların üzerinden çok bir vakit geçmeden yazılmış olması gerçekten hayret uyandırıcı.
Kitabın konusu bir yana Uzaktan Kumandalı Kız ile ilgili en sık gördüğüm eleştiri, yazarın hikayeyi anlatım şekliydi. Gelgelelim bana göre ise kitabın parladığı nokta tam olarak burası. Yazar hikayeyi doğrudan bize, okura anlatıyor. Öyle ki daha ilk cümleden bize "zombi" diye seslenerek bizi de kurmacanın, anlatılan dünyanın bir parçası haline getiriyor. Kitabın başkarakteri Philadelphia Burke / Delphi de olmak üzere bütün karakterler tam bir kayıtsızlıkla, tarafsızlıkla aktarılmış. Sanki bir kitap okumuyoruz da gelecekteki bir okulda sıramıza oturmuş öğretmenimizin anlattığı bir olayı, hikayeyi dinliyormuşuz gibi. Eğer daha uzun bir kitap olsaydı, ki anlatılan hikaye buna izin verecek kadar zengin bence, büyük ihtimalle bu anlatım şeklinden sıkılacaktım. Ancak Sheldon tam tadında bırakmış ve oldukça güzel ve yerinde bir son ile bitirmiş kitabı.
Yazarın bir erkek mahlası kullanarak ve kendini belli etmeden uzun yıllar yazmış olması, dolayısıyla eril/dişil üslup denilen şeyin belirsizliğini, aradaki sınırın nasıl da kaybolabileceğini kanıtlaması da bir başka takdire şayan şey. Bu ve kitapla ilgili daha birçok konuda ayrıntılı, doyurucu bir inceleme için Hazal'ın Kayıp Rıhtım'daki yazısına göz atmanızı tavsiye ederim.
Bu arada Begüm Kovulmaz'ın çevirisi de çok başarılıydı. Gerçi kendisinin imzası olan diğer çevirilere baktığımızda pek şaşılacak bir şey değil ama yine de hakkını vermiş olayım.
Ben Uzaktan Kumandalı Kız'ı umduğumdan daha fazla beğendim. Sheldon'ın diğer eserlerini de merakla bekliyorum.

An interesting novella, most notable because it manages to pack such a complete story into a small number of pages. Tiptree Jr. does so, however, by writing in a highly stylized fashion, skipping all but the highlights and referencing clichés as a shortcut for plot progression. Certainly, better than forcing us to actually read clichés, but that's not nearly as impressive as writing something that is good despite being a cliché, let alone deconstructing or subverting or reinventing such formulas. The writing is my least favorite part of the work, though the nature of the story being told gives me hope that the affectations on display here don't permeate through all of the author's work.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the story is the parallel between the main character and Tiptree herself, who also worked through an invented identity, but, though it's interesting, the story is too short to engage with that idea substantively. Also somewhat impressive is Tiptree Jr.'s prediction of the Instagram advertisers and guerilla marketers of today, though celebrity endorsements were a thing long before this story. There were enough interesting things going on in this story that I want to read something longer by Tiptree Jr., but this particular story's virtues were counterbalanced by its flaws. 3/5.
