Bad Apple

Rate this book
My stepbrother, Rogue, was the kind of trouble I couldn’t resist.
Rogue was the bad apple of our family. He thrived on the excitement of all the things that we were warned about as kids.
Then they made it my job to make this bad boy see the error of his ways. He needed to leave the gambling and womanizing behind. I tried my hardest, but a leopard can’t change his spots.
Rogue was a bad boy through and through.
I was a good girl until Rogue got under my skin…and into my panties.
And instead of helping to keep my stepbrother out of trouble, I got myself into it.
I didn’t intend to give Rogue my heart. In the end, he stole it like the bad boy he was.
But he gave me something too. The best gift ever.
The baby is going to turn my stepbrother from a bad apple to one good enough to eat.
Author's Note: No cliffhangers. HEA guaranteed. This novel is steamy with enough sexiness for you to enjoy. This is a full-length novel and the re-write of my short story, Trouble.

Starting Bad Apple by Stephanie Brother by Stephanie Brother as you all know I absolutely love her books. I know before hand that it's going to be a juicy little read

“Are you sure about this?” he questioned
I nodded without hesitation, washing away the fear about what would happen after we had sex. The next thing I knew, our hot bodies were next to each other as he pumped me against my front door.
“Don’t stop.”
He moved his butt slightly back and then with so much force, he thrust inside of me. I cried so damn loud.
Fuck the neighbors.

Hello, Ms. Brent,” I said, reaching my hand out for a shake. “I’m Claire. I was told you were looking for me?”
“Yes. I’m here regarding your step-brother, Rogue.”
That surprised me, but I knew better than to let it show.
As we sat down, we were both still sizing each other up.
“What can I help you with, Ms. Brent?” I asked.
“I’m Rogue’s new parole officer,” she said.

image

“Why do you think we don’t need to talk about Rogue?” I asked slowly.
“Well, I’m sure you know that better than I do, yes? Rogue is in a bad way, Claire. Not to say that I’ll neglect my duties in any way, but if you have any sense, you will throw that man out so he can go to jail. Him outside is doing no one any good.”
I frowned at her blunt answer. “Excuse me?”
“He’s a lost cause, Claire. I’ve seen many guys like him. He won’t change. He’s going to do something stupid that will violate his parole, and he’ll be going back soon enough. You doing this will just be helping him along, you know. It would be better for everyone involved.”

I just knew it. I knew Simon would be an ass

“You are going to have breakfast with me,” he said slowly, looking annoyed. “Or, you’re free to go elsewhere and look for another job.” he smirked. “Maybe we should do that? After all, you’re a woman that’s into committing incest. If word got out, it could ruin our reputation, you know.”
I gaped at Simon for a moment, surprised. In the next moment, though, I glared at him.
What the heck? Fuck him!
“In that case, sir,” I said, turning to leave. “I’ll be going back home to sleep. I quit.”

“First of all, we need to do a test. You can see a doctor afterwards, but pregnancy tests can be really accurate.”
We left the house, to a small supermarket a walking distance from her house. She helped me pick a test, and we paid for it then went back for me to use it.
Less than half an hour from when I appeared in her apartment, I had my answer.
It was positive.
Fuck.

Well... this was not what I was expecting.
It started great, with Claire taking what she wanted and not making all that usual charm. It was exciting but then it all just became rushed and fast paced.
I didn’t understand why Claire’s mom was so secretive about them visiting Richard. I think it was because that was no solution for his case but they deserve a chance to say goodbye at least.

Really liked that Claire did not let Simon step over her and harass her. She stood up for herself and manage to get out with her head high.
But the way Rogue improved was really nice to read. How he did man up and kept trying to be a better person. Their relationship and interactions were good.

Anyway, not the best, just good nonetheless.

Claire is a lawyer. Rogue is her step-brother and was released from prison. His father is dying. Claire's mom asks her to keep an eye on Rogue and try to keep him out of trouble. She ends up letting him live with her until he can get his life together. Not long after he sets his feet into her apartment they're having sex. A bit quick for this reader. Also, there was too much inner dialog. I did some skipping to get to the actual conversations between Claire & Rogue.

Pushed the rating to 3 stars because the story idea was good, as was the sex.

This is your typical stepbrother taboo romance. I love my taboo stories, However, I did not like how the whole story was pretty much summed up in the first paragraph. I was already told that she is going to change him by having a baby. I kept reading, hoping the story would still be juicy enough to keep my interest, because normally babies in romance novels are a cop-out. Like the author ran out of story material and decided to throw in a love child for smiles. :(

Sadly, I was mistaken again. Neither Rogue or Claire were really that interesting. Rogue gambles and f#%ks around a lot. And Claire is a lawyer who doesn’t have sex often. That is pretty much the sum of it.

The story was okay. The plot twists were minimal. But I had to take another star away for the writing. It felt amateur. Basically, you could tell the book was not written by E.L. James or another well known author. Which is surprising because this author has dozens, and I mean dozens of books written. They all have grabbing titles and mouth-watering sexy guys on the covers. Maybe this book was one of her firsts?
But it wasn’t all BAD! The sexy scenes made my eyes pop out of my head and left me wanting more. It’s mainly the flow of the story that had me on pause. It seemed to drag if Claire and Rouge weren’t f#%king.

“I didn't wait for her to reply. I dropped my phone and it slammed against the wooden floor. I could have broken it, but I didn’t care as he started to suck on my neck. I could have denied him. Told him to stop. But, who was I kidding? He wanted me. And I wanted him more.”

“He inhaled a deep breath. Then, he held my arms above my head with one hand and used the other to push his hardness into me. I gasped for air, and then I cried out his name, “Rogue!” Holding my butt, he thrusted his hips. I tried to steady myself with my arms so I wouldn’t drop as he pressed me against the door. He looked deep into my eyes as he moved closer to me, watching my reaction as he plunged his lips down to mine. Probably waiting for me to tell him to stop. This was wrong. We were stepbrother and sister.”

I got 30% into the story, and it just seemed too much. Nothing grabbed me. I was looking for something to grab on to, but there was nothing there...besides the sex scenes. :)

“I moaned, my body shuddering as he thrust his tongue in and out of my mouth as if mimicking how he was going to f#%k me later.”

So this was a free ARC copy from one of my favorite authors to read for, plus booksprout, for my voluntary honest review of this story and I so enjoyed it! At first it took a little time to get into it but I so did once things heated up between Claire/Rouge mmm so sizzling hot!!! He's fresh out of prison and going to be staying with Claire because they are family (stepbrother/stepsister) and his dad his dieing of lung cancer in the hospital and her mom stay with him alot! So Rouge is fresh out of prison and has a new start whats he going to do.Plus he get a new parole officer who wants to see him back in prison. He takes it easy for now.And things between him and Claire sure do heat up from the first time he step foot in her apt. They end up in her bed and don't leave it tell she goes to work the next day and he wakes up.Thats was one sizzling hoooot night for both of them, but Claire has never had a nice guy like that before and she wants more, even if she shouldn't. She has to start working late and between that and sometimes Rouge keeping her up late, things between her and one of her head big bosses comes to a head. One early morning after he called her her in to early and she ended up quitting her job (plus he was being a ass).So they both start spending time at the hospital and home with each other , but when her mom finds out about them she doesn't want to see or talk to them.So they mostly stay home together but they haven't been sleeping together. So if you want the whole story go get the whole book its so worth it! Hope you enjoy it to its a great read and its sizzling hot to!!!

This was a wonderful book by Stephanie Brother - what else would you expect! The characters are ones that you really root for from the beginning. Watching the changes that both Rogue and Claire go through are realistic and raw. Hold on for one tantilizing, taboo ride!

Rogue is released from prison (reason for bring there unclear). He goes to live with Claire, his stepsister who is a lawyer. Claire has so insulated herself in law practice that her real world life is negligable. These two have been told about eachother, yet when reality meets what they've been told, there is a major clash!

There is an instant connection, and the chemistry is too much to contain. For Rogue, Claire is the first person who really sees him, and actually cares about him. For Claire, Rogue is an awakening from her over-indoctrinated life. The realization for them both is a heady mix. Of course, the passion they share is unquenchable.

When their choices result in a baby, how will Rogue and Claire proceed? A HEA family or will it be the thing that tears them apart?

I definately recommend this book. I happened to receive an ARC, however, would gladly have paid for the pleasure of reading this fast paced, easy flowing, step-brother taboo book!

Claire is an associate in a law firm and has been asked to look after her stepbrother Rogue, who is being released from prison. She is only willing to do this because her stepfather Richard is in hospital dying from cancer. Rogue has been released after serving three years of a five year prison sentence after being framed for drugs by the mafia in Vegas.

When he arrives at Claire’s apartment, he makes passionate love to Claire, this is a night long thing. Claire’s boss becomes oppressive in his treatment of her and has her working very long hours to the point where after working till after midnight and then waking her up at six the next morning and then giving her grief for taking an hour to get to work, she suddenly has enough and then quits.

Richard dies and then a couple of weeks later, Claire finds out she is pregnant and Rogue is now enrolled in community college for culinary school. Claire starts work in public defence and eventually as the ADA. They have a little boy and then get married and is pregnant with a little girl.

Cute Story.

Can't say it really lived up to the title. The was cute. Not enough sexy. Focused so much on the loss of his father. I thought the words could've been better spent on the bad apples pre-lock up. Maybe some flashbacks. The main character just didn't meet my expectations as a bad apple. No plot twists. No real struggle. I mean, who comes out of prison with a fucking pension? Rogue Rest? His character could've been more alpha while still growing into a better man for the woman and the family he loves. While it was sweet the way Rogue was domesticated. His character and story fell flat? Could Simon, not have revealed darker intentions? Thought, that could've added some depth to Rogue's newly acquired good guy persona. Rogue could have without physical violence or threats demonstrated that he could've been clever, pragmatic and a little possessive. Instead, his character fell flat. Rogue came off as pussy. This story could've been awesome. Expected hot delicious cheesey grits. I served a big ole bowl cold bran.

Rogue is just getting out of prison and his father is too sick to be anywhere but in the hospital. So he asks if Claire will take Rogue in and work on his case. Sparks fly between them the moment they are together. They have a steamy hot night together. When Claire goes into work it seems like her boss is constantly on her about something or other. Claire is tired of the issues at work and end up quitting her job. Rogue and her start spending more time together especially visiting his father in the hospital. Can Rogue change and be a better man? What will their parents say about them being together?

This is a steamy hot story that will draw you in from the first page. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Good read

This was a good read, like most of Stephanie Brothers books. This was a different take on a step sibling romance. I was easily connected to the characters, but felt there was a piece missing between a couple of chapters before it skipped to the future.
Overview. Claire was picked to help her step brother when he got out of jail. They became step siblings when he was a senior in high school and she was a few years younger. Because he made some bad choices in life, they were never close. So Rouge was not excited that he was going to have to live with her. But when he finds out that his dad is dying and that's why he was staying with her vs with his dad, life changed. Rouge felt like he needed to prove to Claire and his dad that there was some good in him. But Claire was working a lot as a lawyer and fighting his fears was hard. But Claire became his rock and he helped her see the future better.

Talk about bringing on the steam! Woo!
Heartache, fear and the anxiety it brings, being your authentic self and second chance at a first impression.
These are just some of the layered ups and downs Claire the closed off to the world Lawyer, and her step sibling Rouge, the gambling, ex-con whose released into her " care ."
Pent-up lust, unresolved feelings and seeing each other both in new ways leads to a forbidden tryst, neither wants to stop!
But his father's illness, and her career... nothing good could come of their secrets, right?
HOLY MOTHER OF YUM!
That was some steamy goodness!
Fastmoving lovefest, with a whole lot of heart and the stepsibling taboo all alpha storyline!
A true Stephaine Brother read I was sad it ended so quickly I could have read about these two all day!
Going in my to be reread folder!

This was a great stepbrother book by Stephanie Brother. When Rogue gets out of prison, the last person he wants to stay with is his stepsister Claire. After all, she's uptight and he just wants to make up for lost time. Claire cannot believe she agreed to let her obnoxious stepbrother live with her. If her stepfather wasn't sick, she never would have agreed. However, you should never judge a book by its cover. As Rogue and Claire get to know each other, they grow closer. There was no denying the intense chemistry between them. Of course with all the obstacles they face, it will not be smooth sailing for this couple. Will they be able to overcome them to find their HEA?

Claire has been nominated to be the one to help her step brother get on the straight and narrow path. He is the poster boy for the label Bad Boy. Rogue has no interest in being a rule following, good boy but Claire sure does.make a.compelling arguement sometimes. The more time these two spend together the more their feelings for one another grow and change. Once that physical line is crossed, is there any chance of going back? What about the consequences, does Claire lose Rogue for good? A hot and steamy story for a bumpy HEA journey. Enjoy!

Fairly awful

Lots of unnecessary apostrophes, pervasive passive voice, inconsistencies, and a disjointed plot make for a fairly awful book.

The protagonists see each other for the first time in years and immediately indulge in non-stop sex. Then the heroine goes to work for an unreasonable boss while our hero makes an a$$ of himself. Heroine is a doormat, hero is an idiot. There's little in the way of character development to justify the relationship. The author also needs to do a little research on some details in the story.

Find something else to read.

This one was...okay.

Stepbrother gets out of jail and stays with stepsister. They screw without protection slot. They both make excuses and hold back. A loved one dies and the stepbrother vows to change his life. Then an HEA.

The end.

Kinda bland, not very developed, whiny characters. It was meh, so 3 stars.

Rogue

Just out of prison, he was a bad Apple. His stepsister Claire picked him up because the girl he was seeing did not. Claire is a lawyer, her mother asks her to keep an eye on him so she lets him live with her. There was no mention of why he was in prison. Sex began with the two of them right off the bat. Rogues father married Claire's mother and he is in the hospital. This book is too fragmented.

Stephanie takes taboo and gives you what you want without even knowing you want it.

I definitely was drawn in by the title and the taboo aspect.

I enjoyed this one. It's sexy, the characters made the story and who doesn't a bad boy stepbrother romance?

The blurb sums the story up well. I liked it alot. If you want to taste of bad, Rogue isn't a bad way to go. I received an arc for an honest and voluntary review.

Claire and Rogue are step siblings. Claire is a lawyer and Rogue is the ultimate bad boy. Claire and Rogue are living together after Rogue had another stint in jail. Claire is mad at what he does in life but there is a attraction there. Will they cross the line? What will happen if their family finds out?

The book was interesting and had its twists and turns to keep me going. Claire and Rogue seem to have an instant attraction that turns into so much more. Since she is not just his step-sister, but a lawyer as well., maybe Rogue will keep himself out of trouble.

Very nice read. Stepbrother/stepsister romance. Rogue was the bad boy who needed help to stay in line. Claire was given the task of "babysitting" him. Throw the two together and there was extreme heat. Family drama, a surprise pregnancy and an HEA.
