Wonderful collection of short pieces by leading figures on literacy on how to conceive of the past and present of literacy studies and how the subfield should move forward in terms of method, focus, etc. Miller’s introduction doesn’t feel like it’s on the same page as the pieces that follow—he doesn’t seem to take the project as seriously as the other authors do (he even goes so far as to joke: “This missionary position is also seen to be inadequate in achieving the desire for literacy …”)—but that’s not enough for me to dock a star from my rating of this great feature from the February 2018 issue of CCC.
