A crime witnessed over twenty years ago has had a chilling effect on the life of Gabrielle Golden. When new evidence is uncovered, the cold case begins to heat up, as does Gabrielle’s personal life thanks to true crime writer and former Texas Ranger Levi Sawyer. Can they identify the killer before they themselves become the next chapter?
One fine day in the not-too-distant past, Lisa Clark O’Neill left Wittenberg University with a BA in English, which she promptly neglected. After working as an interior designer, decorative artist, and Montessori art teacher (there may have been a BA in art as well,) she finally settled into the role of mother to two very fine children. However, two years of doing the stay-at-home-mom brain cell melt drove her to pull out a pen and one of her old college notebooks. That turned into six manuscripts. Lisa spent subsequent years avoiding housework by burying her nose in just about every romance novel she could get her hands on, after completely falling in love with the genre. Her own work falls into the romantic suspense sub-genre, with strong comedic undertones. Two of Lisa's recent novels, Circumstantial Evidence and Malice, were chosen as Best Reads of 2015.
What the heck happened with this book? I kind of felt like I was going along for a drive with someone then all of a sudden they slammed on the brakes and said 'get out, this is the end of the road'. The story was going along pretty well then the author suddenly wrapped it up then walked away and left a ton of plot threads hanging.
I've read quite a few books by this author and really recommend her other series but this book left me scratching my head and frankly, feeling a bit annoyed that I wasted my money on it.
This one just didn't work. It somehow felt all over the place and then came to an abrupt ending. There was a lot of telling going on and some dialogue that felt less than real. And I really didn't like that Gabrielle started out a strong female character and then was turned into an irrational drama queen with lots of angst.
Two young adults sledding in the woods find a body related to a crime from 20 years ago. Gabrielle Golden was the last person to see the victim alive. A child at the time, she was questioned endlessly by the police, the girl's family, her own parents. She saw nothing that was helpful in solving the case - just a young girl climbing into a white van and the elbow of the driver. She has tried to put it behind her but as the cold case begins to heat up, so does Gabrielle's DOA love life, thanks to true crime writer and former Texas Ranger Levi Sawyer.
This is an easy to read romantic suspense which does a good job of keeping the relationship front and center. While I didn't like the mild paranormal aspect to the story, I did enjoy the "cozy" feel to it and how the tale was written. It might not change your life but this story will certainly add a little fun to your day if you're a fan of RS.
Like all the other books in the series I really loved this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I had to restrain myself from flipping to the last page to see how it ended.
There is mystery and suspense, funny and sweet moment. And also quite a lot action, but the main tone of the book was emotional. Bother Gabrielle and Charity have dealt with past and recent trauma. It has shaped them in the way the interact with others and how they deal with things. It is different for both of them, but they are able to connect. I really enjoyed both characters.
And can I have a Levi?
I am sad to see this series end, but I am sure there will be other books.
I totally enjoyed the first two books in the Dahlonega series- the third not so much. I think it was because the “crime” was sort of shunted aside until late in the story when the author suddenly realized she had no real suspects, just inferences, and no logical solution to the misdeeds. I liked the relationship between the two main characters and it’s fun following characters from previous stories interact with current ones. This time the plot was almost an afterthought and the story was diminished by it. Wish there were more books in this series because the dialogue is so well-written and the characters are so likable (except for the bad guys, of course).
Is suspense your jam? So intriguing you can’t stop reading trying to figure out the suspects that remain elusive? Look no further than this author, Lisa Clark O’Neill.
The conclusion to her Dahlonega Trilogy, SHIVER, is a fast-paced mystery shrouded in edge-of-your-seat suspense.
O’Neills mastery of descriptive words coupled with perfectly-timed humor add immensely to the flow and enjoyment of all her books but is truly captivating in Shiver.
The Dahlonega trilogy has been one of my favorites, Shiver, so highly anticipated, is a must read conclusion.
I didn’t figure out the ending; that’s a top notch novel to me!
She’s done it again and has not disappointed this reader
Lisa Clark O’Neill’s style of writing is adventurous, witty, and intriguing mixed in with a little bit of murder and of course romance, which is not over the top but just right. Throughout the book I was either laughing or smiling big with the pictures she paints with her poetic turns of phrases. Always, always enjoy her books.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Book synopsis: A crime witnessed over twenty years ago has had a chilling effect on the life of Gabrielle Golden. How do you keep me guessing and on the edge of my seat every time? Seriously. I’m the girl who always guesses who dunnit but never with Ms. O’Neill’s books. She manages to keep me on my toes. What can I say that I haven’t said with every single book? It’s well written, the characters are well fleshed out, the plot is solid, and the romance is hot. As long as Lisa keeps writing, she’ll have me as a reader.
I am a fan of Ms O'Neill's writing. I have read all of her books and this one proves she gets better with everyone. Levi might be my favorite yet - I'm biased I'm a Texan 😉. And Gabe definitely resonates with my little tomboy heart. Read this book if you are a tomboy or a Texan or you just like good stories.
I loved everything about this book except that it was over too fast! Great plot. Loved both protagonists. Nobody was so perfect that they seemed fake which is a big issue for me. But they were not so flawed that I didn’t want to root for them. I stayed up very late to finish this book and am not sorry at all. Worth it!
I love ❤️, love ❤️, loved this trilogy! All the twists & turns, good ole southern romance & history! The characters were so real that you could just about be one of them. I’ve been toDelonaga many times & can picture the surroundings in my mind. I got hooked on the first one for free then bought the other two & read them all in two days! Could not put them down!
Once again, I have devoured another of Lisa's books. I am pretty sure the reason I woke at 3 am was my brain just had to know what was going to happen next! It is so wonderful how the author never fails to please.
Another page turner from Lisa Clark O'Neill! This one kept me up late and resulted in complaints by my kids of abandonment. Definitely worth the read, as are all of her books. Can't wait for more!
Amazing as always, although it did end very abruptly. Jarringly so. And I would have loved an epilogue in this case especially. I loved the romance brewing between Gabrielle and Levi but as soon as we got to the good stuff, the book literally ended without warning.
