Ella Grace Mulvaney, a twenty-two-year-old orphan, lives in the Howard House Orphanage for Girls in Silverpines, Oregon. Along with her eight “sisters,” she has been well educated in decorum, all aspects of taking care of a home, and every subject her spinster guardians deem necessary to survive in a man’s world. When tragedy strikes, Ella Grace is left in charge of the local Inn. Trying to save it from being sold to disinterested East coast buyers, she decides to send for a mail-order husband who would also purchase the Inn.
Michael Karson, tired of running the family hotel in Wisconsin, desires to head West and answers Ella Grace’s ad in the Grooms Gazette. He likes the idea of purchasing an Inn far from home but isn’t sure about marrying someone sight unseen. Surely, just answering the ad isn’t a commitment and buying the Inn doesn’t mean marrying the girl.
Will love draw these two young people together or will a love-struck, dangerous miner, Michael’s tyrannical father, and a rifle-toting spinster guardian keep them apart?
I especially loved how this one started out before the devastation! I could completely comprehend the fear of the earthquakes! Terribly frightening! Thanks for including that experience into the story! I'm so in love with this series!!
This is romance and of course the path of true love is strewn with potholes and bumps. Ms. Spitzer did a good job with her story arc and her ‘bumps’ were interesting for the most part (if, at moments, somewhat unbelievable). It is a clean read and a sweet story. However, there were a couple issues that made staying immersed in the story difficult for me. The first of these issues was head-hopping. There was a fair amount of switching from head to head as people came and went within the story with no indication in the narrative the POV changed. Though I could usually follow the changes, without any indication or separation from head to head, it was distracting.
The second issue was a lack of logical choices/actions on the part of certain individuals. At one point I paused in my reading, uncertain if I had read correctly. The action taken by the individual at that point was so out of sync with what was happening in the story, I couldn’t believe it. For me irrational choices are another distraction.
I vacillated between two stars and three stars when writing this review and gave it three because the story was sweet. So … if you are looking for a light romance or summer beach-read, this might be the book for you. But be prepared to read it with rose-colored glasses.
Orphan Ella Grace wants a husband but where will she find one, especially after the disasters that have ripped the town apart and taken most of the men. She's working at the Inn but hopes to find a new owner that will continue her boss' vision for the place. Michael is following his dreams West, right into a great business opportunity. He's smitten with Ella Grace but what happens when he parents show up before the wedding? Will the man who's been stalking her finally leave her alone if she's got a husband already? This was a page turner. I thought it was going along really cutely and then PLOT TWIST! Totally wasn't expecting that. It was really well done. A great clean, sweet romance. Just loving reading more about the town of Silverpines. I also liked how this story showed what really happened during the earthquake. It was good to get the background. Maybe it was also in the first book that I just didn't read.
I loved Marianne's Wanted: Innkeeper. Ella Grace's story is a wonderful blends of humor, surprise twists and turns, and sweet romance. Ella Grace is an orphan raised by two spinsters who run a home for girls. When the earthquakes decimate the town and her boss is killed in rescue efforts, the management of the inn falls on her shoulders.
Michael wants to be his own man without having to depend on his parents. When he answers the ad in the Groom's Gazette for an mail order husband, he leaps at the chance to escape. At first, he isn't sure if marriage is what he wants but then he takes one look at Ella Grace and she claims his heart.
But will he be able to keep her by his side? A very good book!
I have enjoyed this whole series of books so far! They are all different and not repeats. Ella Grace was left in charge of the Inn when her employer was killed in the mine cave in from the earthquakes. She sent for a mail order groom and Michael answered her add. Micheal loves her the minute he see's her. But when they go to get married a man shows up saying she secretly married his son and can't marry Michael. Buggs has been declared dead and she never married him in the first place. But the signatures look a lot alike. Michael tells her its ok their pasts don't matter and she thinks he thinks she married Buggs. She is hurt and runs away, will she come back or will she go to Portland? You will have to read the book to find out! I highly recommend this book!
Another wonderful read in the silverpines series I can't get enough of these sweet romance stories I am slowly working my way through them all. This book covers Ella-Grace after she advertisers for an inn keeper husband to help her run the Inn after the owner her boss dies in the mines after trying to help with the rescue efforts unfortunately another earthquake hits killing him and other rescue workers. The romance with Ella-Grace and Michael is anything but smooth as with all the other stories it's adventure after adventure this book is no different the author has made a good job of interacting with the other characters of the series and I would encourage everyone to read them.
Even though I have read this series out of sequence and was aware of some of what was to happen later. I loved being able to fill in the blank spots of earlier happenings. Now I am eager to find the first books of the series to read it from the beginning. So if you are reading through the series, I can say this it gets better as you keep reading. If this is your first, I recommend to find the beginning and catch up like me 😁. I love Ella Grace and Katie. I Am hoping there will be more about Maude to come.
This is the 6th book in the Silverpines series. We've heard about Ella Grace in previous books, but the hero, Michael,is new to Silverpines. This story is longer than many of the other books because it starts before the earthquakes and has an added side story about a drunk miner named Bugs who pesters Ella Grace. We get a lot more insight about Howard House where orphan girls are raised by Miss Edie and Miss Ethel. It's an enjoyable series.
Another great book in the Silverpines series, and more about the earthquake and then the mudslide that buried all of Timber city and its occupants. The owner of the inn went to help with the mine collapse and ended up getting killed. His son inherited the inn but had no notion of running it so he gave EllaGrace the offer to run it till she found a buyer. This was an amazing book on love and loss. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Wolverines continues to struggle in the aftermath of the earthquakes. When the Innkeeper died trying to help the trapped miners, Ella Grace decides to seek a new innkeeper and husband. This is a great addition for the series, but makes an enjoyable stand alone as well.
I think the book lost some things in the editing. When Mr. Bastion dies the author assumes we know the details, but they aren't provided. Although the Marshal's first name is Alexzander, he is referred to separately as the Marshal and Alexzander until later in the book. This is confusing.
Michael was Ella Grace's mail Order groom. Out of necessity Ella Grace needs a husband and a new owner for the Inn she works at. Nearly not being married all is well with a happy ending. You will enjoy.
I loved that this story started off before the tragedies. This story flowed very nicely. The characters were amazing and It set up a future book perfectly. I love how the hero in the book stood up to his dad an supported his wife. Great! Looking forward to more happenings in Silverpines.
Love, love this couple. What a wonderful story and great ending. I absolutely love the people and the town. Highly recommend. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Ella was taught to be prime and proper at all times. Though she doesn’t have a bit of temper, especially when it comes to an unsuitable suitor. Taking things in hand gets a mail order husband. Of which he wants his own life and choices. Obstacles and mayhem await for them and readers.
Tragedy hits Silverpines with 2 earthquakes and a mud slide. She promised to take care of Inn when owner goes to help at collapsed mine but ends up dyeing. She sends for a husband in the paper to help her run Inn.
Cute story. Felt a little fast when getting to the match making. This story lead to another book about another of the orphan girls. Would like to read more of the series.
Another wonderful installment in the Silverpines series.I loved this book and couldn’t put it down.Great story about a mail order husband for Ella Grace.
I loved that it started before the disasters. The characters were great and I really enjoyed the spinster sisters. My first book by this author and it won't be my last!
I loved this book. Ella Grace has done a great job while working at the inn. Is this her job for all time? What will happen when Mr. Bastion is no longer around?
this is a lovely addition to the Silverpines series. I love how Ella Grace takes charge when her boss and owner of the Inn is killed in the earthquakes with the rest of the men. She does a great job, but is worried about the son selling the Inn. she sends for an Innkeeper. Can they work out what needs to be done and marry or will things stand in their way? read for more intrigue and romance.
This is a great series. There's a really good group of authors involved in this series and each and every book is good. I really enjoyed the characters and the story in this book and can't wait to read the next one.
