Interesting, but there was only fundamentally a few points made throughout the entire book and the points are not that deep. Probably could have just been an article, but that's bound to be the case when covering a minor country's relationship with the US. I'm also not sure "absurd" is quite the right description in the subtitle, maybe more like "futile" and "repetitive". I found the best part was the biographical chapter on Ceausescu and his wife Elena. This book also barely covers the 1989 revolution itself, so don't read this book expecting much if you are more interested in that event. Lastly, the writing is extremely dry and mechanistic, but probably close to the style that the Department of State desires in its FSOs. Recommend for those interested in Romania.
