A gathering of friends at a Juniper Grove cottage ends in tragedy when a woman plunges to her death from a bedroom window. Minutes later, bells at a nearby church begin to toll, waking the town’s residents. Rachel’s fears that the two events are linked are confirmed when Chief Gilroy declares the woman’s death a homicide and the pastor of the church says his computer-operated bell system was hacked.
The suspects are clear—every woman staying at the cottage—but the motive is a mystery. Who would want to kill a harmless substitute teacher and church worker? When the owner of the cottage begs Rachel to investigate, Rachel soon discovers that the victim was not what she seemed to be. With hard evidence in short supply, Rachel must dig into the victim’s and suspects’ personal lives to solve her most baffling case yet. Can she uncover the truth before the bells toll again?
This light, cozy mystery offers a clean read with a female amateur sleuth in a small-town setting. No foul language, sex, gore, or graphic scenes of any kind. It can be read as a standalone, but it will be enjoyed more as part of the series.

Karin Kaufman grew up devouring murder mysteries, especially of the cozy kind. Give her a mystery, a comfy couch, her sweet dog at her side, and (preferably) a rainy day, and she’s in heaven. She’s the author of the Juniper Grove Cozy Mystery Series, the Smithwell Fairies Cozy Mystery Series, and the Anna Denning Mystery Series. The Witch Tree, the first book in her Anna Denning series, was a finalist for a Grace Award. Karin also writes children's books in the Geraldine Woolkins and Woolkins Bookshelf series.
"I must have been distracted by all the bodies. Are we really going to talk about flowers?"
Karin Kaufman once again takes us back to Juniper Grove, Colorado for yet another crime(s) in the peaceful little town. Or maybe, not quite so peaceful. Only twelve hundred citizens but someone is determined to take the population down a notch. Or two. This time the murder involves church bells, betrayals, gossip and well, you know how crime goes.
The Juniper Grove Gang , along with Chief Gilroy, Officers Underhill and Turner are hot on the case and expect to have a culprit in hand before long.
I love these cozy mysteries and hope Kaufman continues them in the foreseeable future. I'm never going to get tired of reading these. Highly recommended.
Karin Kaufman has given readers another glimpse into the town of Juniper Grove and it is delightfully mysterious! Death Knell has a murder being committed during a weekend meeting of a book club!
I loved the book - it reminded me of one of "closed room" mysteries where everyone is a suspect and their motives are all believable! The twists and turns that Ms. Kaufman takes readers through makes for a mystery that keeps you guessing. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I changed my mind!
Along with the wonderful mystery, she creates, Ms. Kaufman's descriptions of the town of Juniper Grove and it's citizens are beautiful and realistic. I can imagine myself going into Holly's bakery and ordering cream puffs or walking down the main street with Rachel and Julia!
In this eighth book of the Juniper Grove series Rachel feels like she is dreaming when she wakes up to bells ringing and someone knocking on her door. She rushes to answer it seeing her friend Holly there. Holly tells her about the constant church bells ringing for the past 15 minutes meaning something must be wrong. The ladies drive to the church and see the police there at the cottage behind the church near the cemetery. Rachel sees the librarian that she knows and finds out that one of her friends has fallen from the second floor of the cottage and is dead. It seems five women were at the cottage overnight for a book club and one of them has actually been murdered. Trying to figure out what happened and what made the church bells rjng, Rachel and the gang begin to investigate. Obviously one of the women had to be the murderer. Chief Gilroy tells Rachel to be careful as usual. After spending the day trying to question some of the women and trying to find out more about the victim, Rachel, Julia and Royce go back to the cottage for dinner. When they arrive one of the women is rather drunk and she decides to go outside and cut some fresh flowers for the dinner table even though Rachel had already brought them flowers. Shortly after she leaves to get the flowers they hear her screaming. Royce and Rachel rush to the screaming lady and they find the minister dead on the ground obviously having been murdered too. Who will be next? Will the gang and police be able to solve the murders? This series continues to intrigue with each story and the conclusions are always surprising.
Awesome. When the neighbours are rudely awakened very early by church bells, they are all perplexed. However when our nosey sleuth and her senior sidekick go to investigate, they find that a young woman has died by falling out of a second storey window. Was it an accident or was it an act of defenestration? The woman had been at a book club meeting and all the members had stayed over. With four clear suspects, our team of sleuths start digging for answers. Are the answers to be had at the church? They believe so, especially once the body of the vicar is discovered. Will the killer be brought to book? Great neat plot, even if like me you guessed the identity of the killer, that is well written and covers all the angles. The characters are engaging and real.
After what I felt was only a so-so book in Death Trap, book 8 Death Knell more than makes up for it. Death Knell begins in a unique and intriguing way as Rachel is awoken by Holly in the early hours as bells ring out from St. John's Church. It is Juniper Grove, so of course someone has been murdered (Rachel, stay out of my town, hahaha!!!). And of course Rachel, Julia, Holly, and Royce (who is a great addition to the series) help Gilroy, Underhill, and Turner uncover clues and evidence that ultimately leads to its conclusion. And per usual, Karin Kaufman keeps you guessing until the end.
Love Karin kaufman's juniper grove cozy mysteries!

I like the characters and their close friendships and the way they support each other. This is a good, clean and exciting series.
I started this series with the Christmas book. I fell in love with the characters so I went back to the beginning to get their backgrounds. Really enjoy a book where the characters keep developing with every book. You start to care about them
I really enjoyed the character development in this series of books. I'm going to miss them when the series ends.
Keeping the motive a secret til near the end made this an enjoyable read. Although the suspects got narrowed down, it was still a toss-up over who. Moving on to book nine!
This has become a great series. Very Entertaining! Love the characters and the development of them. As you read you feel as your part of the story, it is so well written it just pulls you in. Great Reading Everyone!

Rachel and her friend are woken up early one morning to the ringing of the church bell. When they arrive they find a woman has been murdered. Book club member Lauren is found dead while her fellow members are the suspects. Rachel, Chief Gilroy and the others must hurry to find a killer among so called friends before someone else ends up dead. Wasn't quite as excited about this book as others in the series, but I still enjoyed it and have really like the series!
All the ladies are suspects when a book club member winds up dead at a book club meeting weekend. I loved this aspect of the story, as I love book clubs! The main character, Rachel is interesting in that she is a mystery writer and amateur sleuth. She is investigating all the angles including if this murderer is copying the killer in the book club pick. The killer was a surprise to me. I am enjoying this series and would recommend it to other cozy mystery lovers!
