"The dream team delivers big time . . . Clinton's insider secrets and Patterson's storytelling genius make this the political thriller of the decade." --Lee Child The publishing event of 2018: Bill Clinton and James Patterson's The President Is Missing is a superlative thriller . . . one that can really happen, and one that must not be missed. The President Is Missing confronts a threat so huge that it jeopardizes not just Pennsylvania Avenue and Wall Street, but all of America. Uncertainty and fear grip the nation. There are whispers of cyberterror and espionage and a traitor in the Cabinet. Even the President himself becomes a suspect, and then he disappears from public view . . . Set over the course of three days, The President Is Missing sheds a stunning light upon the inner workings and vulnerabilities of our nation. Filled with information that only a former Commander-in-Chief could know, this is the most authentic, terrifying novel to come along in many years. And a timely, historic story that will be read--and talked about--for years to come.
Economic expansion and the first balanced federal budget in three decades marked presidency of William Jefferson Clinton, known as Bill, who served forty-second in the United States from 1993 to 2001; the House of Representatives in 1999 impeached him on perjury and obstruction of justice charges, but the Senate acquitted him on both counts.
Born William Jefferson Blythe III, he ranked as the third-youngest president, older only than Theodore Roosevelt and John Fitzgerald Kennedy. People know him the first baby-boomer president at the end of the Cold War. He is the husband of Hillary Rodham Clinton, the junior senator from New York and a Democratic candidate in the election of 2008 in the United States.
People described Clinton as a New Democrat and knew him largely for the Third Way philosophy of governance that came to epitomize his two terms as president. They described his "centrist" policies on issues, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement. Clinton presided over the longest period of peacetime economic expansion in American history, which included a balanced budget and a reported federal surplus. Clinton reported a surplus of $559 billion at the end of his presidency, based on Congressional accounting rules. His presidency was also quickly challenged. On the heels of a failed attempt at health care reform with a Democratic Congress, Republicans won control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. In his second term he was impeached by the U.S. House for perjury and obstruction of justice, but was subsequently acquitted by the United States Senate and completed his term. Polls of the American electorate taken at this time showed that up to 70% were against pursuing the allegations. (New York Times December 21, 1998).
Clinton left office with a 65% approval rating, the highest end-of-presidency rating of any President who came into office after World War II. Since leaving office, Clinton has been involved in public speaking and humanitarian work. He created the William J. Clinton Foundation to promote and address international causes, such as treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS and global warming. In 2004, he released a personal autobiography, My Life.
Loved this book. Action packed from the first chapter. Couldn’t put it down. The characters are well developed and villainous at all the appropriate moments. Read it. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I did.
I really enjoyed this one! Definately gave an I side peek into the inside workings of the US government's inside workings. It also opened my eyes about the idea of the need for cyber security! I really enjoyed this one, and it really had me guessing all the way until the end!
It was an enjoyable read. It has become a little dated as today's political action is so far from the corporation they suggest. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the President's Daughter.
Best book I've read in a while! Smooth reading and fast action like any Patterson book, but this one has more meat on its bones. Several good twists, too. I hope they team up on another one!
I don’t read a lot of thrillers but I was attracted to this one because of all the publicity around it. It was entertaining, a good plot with action throughout.
Started off very slowly, I found it hard to get into at first. The pace picked up and then it was a decent political thriller. Nothing memorable, just a good beach read.
I sped through this thick book because it was so exciting! A nail biter and terrifying because it is a scenario that could really happen and disrupt the world as we know it. Very, very good!
The President is Missing is an interesting collaboration between Bill Clinton and James Patterson. They each bring their knowledge of Presidential Politics and Suspense to the Story.
