Four generations apart, two spiritual, married women stop pretending everything is okay, drop the mask, and do the unthinkable—they leave him. In Leave Him? the wife of a cancer survivor, dares to admit what the disease stole from her and her children. Spiraled into a world of doubt, fear, and depression in the midst of her darkest hour an unlikely hope arose in her. In parallel, the story of Ella Mae Pate reveals a journey of an abused wife at the turn of the 20th century. Her stubborn stand for independence against violence inspires. This memoir resonates with the secret doubters, those angry with God— the ones tired of pretending. It is for those who dare to be real. It is a story of trudging through the muddiness of life and finding peace, sometimes without answers— knowing you are not alone.
This book is heart-wrenching as it tells of the despair and struggle the author went through while she was married to a person who kept diminishing in his everyday capabilities. And how she struggled within herself, her religion and her beliefs to move forward.
Ultimately this book brings hope, is inspiring and also uplifting for a person going through the same struggles.
Leave Him? by Denise Reid This was a new author for me and did enjoy reading the story. A story about four generations apart, two spiritual, married women storp pretending that everything is okay and do the unthinkable and leave him. The wife of a cancer survivor that had realized that her now husband was so different and their live had been filled with doubt, fear, depression and she had decided to gain independence. To say that Ella Mae Pate becomes angry against God, the abuse and wanting to stop pretending her life is one happy life is an understatement. She worries about what people would say about her and her leaving. She felt alone and needed to find peace and happiness, after all didn't she deserve that?
A very deep moving story about the struggle to and pain you feel keep her head above water going through the struggles of life. If you have ever lost a love one this book will make you realize that you are not alone in your struggle. She will give you hope and maybe a better understanding of why you feel as you do as someone close to you is suffering . Leave him will inspire you.
I don’t think I have given any book less than three stars until now. This has potential to be a good story. Surely this is a self published book and an editor never gave it attention to make it a great book. While I applaud someone who will put their story out there for all to see, if one wants to charge for the story, one should make sure it shines.
Leave Him? by Denise Reid is a spiritual memoir where the author finally comes to terms with her decision to leave her husband after caring for him in his decline, both physically and mentally, for over 15 years. This is an amazingly difficult decision for anyone to make, and Reid does it after immense emotional struggle.
Leave Him? is an internal story told in parallel. Reid tells of her own struggles while connecting them to the struggles of her great grandmother Ella Mae Pate. Both women were seeking answers from their respective religious societies to the toughest question of their times: the duty of a wife to her husband.
While Ella Mae’s story took place in the early 20th century with an abusive husband, Reid’s experiences with a sick and declining husband took place at its end and into the new millennia. The struggles of both women were live on the page and the reader’s heart goes out to them both. At least mine did.
Leave Him? by Denise Reid is a clear, frank story about living with the consequences of life-changing decisions and how to come to grips with them.
This story will touch your heart and make those of us who have lost loved ones feel like they are not alone. "Leave Him?" by Denise Reid is an inspiring read.
