Joe Noose #2

Hanging Fire

Rate this book
Joe Noose is back—in the blistering Western series from Eric Red, the acclaimed author of The Guns of Sante Sangre and The Wolves of El Diablo.

THE DEVIL IS A WOMAN

In all his days as a bounty hunter, Joe Noose never met an outlaw like Bonny Kate Valance. The notorious female gunslinger has the kind of beauty that drives men wild—and a criminal record longer than the Snake River. She also has a date with the gallows. But before anyone can put a rope around that pretty neck, Joe Noose has to bring her in alive. On the way, he’ll have to protect his prisoner from a vile ex-lover and a vengeance-seeking posse. Which puts Noose’s neck on the line, too. Especially when this female of the species is deadlier than the male. . . .

I chose hanging fire as my choice book because it looked like a historical action book and that is exactly what it was. I would say the overall rating of the book is a 4 I lived up to my expectations it was a book that always had you on your toes and there was always action. There was a constant eerie feel the entire book it always felt like something was about to go bad right from the beginning. So because of the action and eerie feeling, the book lived up to my expectations furthermore the overall conclusion is a 4 star I would give it a 4.5 but I can't.

" Joe noose leaped out from behind the tree and heaved the weapon at the shooters head before Cisco could raise his gun the bottle of blazing whiskey hit him between his eyes with stunning force." I feel that this quote summarizes the action in this book it is constant and always entertaining and in detail, it almost feels like you can picture it right in front of you.

The plot of this book is quite simple it starts in Wyoming where a deputy has got her hands on one of the most ruthless female outlaws named Bonnie Kate valance she is notorious for robbing banks and killing many and it is none other than Joe noose the bounty hunter to take her to her final destination for her hanging. Now obviously that didn't go as planned or else there would be no book. One of Bonnie Kate's former lovers attempts to save her before her public execution in Idaho but the real conflict only starts with talon pass where Joe finds himself in a lot of trouble when both Bonnie's love and Arizona sheriffs want Bonnie Kate valance where Joe had to stand his ground.

I feel like a good theme for this book is to trust only your instincts because sometimes the people you trust turn on you and that is exactly how this book is. I think the theme is that because of all the sheriffs that were against Joe noose even when a gang was against them as well they still were prioritizing Bonnie Kate. Overall this book was a 4.5 out of 5 I completely recommend it.

Closer to a 3.5, I really enjoy the basic story and Noose is a great character with a rich background. However to be a mass produced paperback anymore, it needs to be around 300 pages and this would be a much better book with 50 or so pages ripped out. Though again I did enjoy this one and the first book as well. Written by the screenwriter for The Hitcher and Near Dark, its well written other then having to be longer then the story calls for. Directly following the first book, Marshal Bess Sugarland is still partly down with a bad leg but someone has to take notorious outlaw Bonny Kate Valence to the hangman over the Teton mountains. Noose volunteers, though along the way he will be having to protect her from an ex gang member of hers and a posse of vengeance seeking law men wanting to kill her themselves. And that's only part of his problems.

Recommended, its a great read overall and it's nice that a western series is still being written for wide release that's not ghost written for Johnstone or Compton.

Last year I reviewed the first in the Joe Noose series by Eric Red. I went on to Hanging Fire.
U.S. Marshall Bess Sugarland is still recovering from a gunshot wound, and Joe Noose is tasked with taking the infamous Bonnie Kate Vance to Victor, Idaho and her date with the gallows.

Not everyone wants Joe to succeed. A sheriff from Arizona wants Bess (pretty much alive or dead) and if Joe Noose stands in the way, it's his mistake. Also on their trail is a former lover of Bonnie Kate. A dangerous trip over Talon Pass puts Joe and Bonnie Kate in danger over and over again.

From the first book, the reader knows Joe Noose is larger than life and so are his adventures. Action-packed.

One of those books that hung around in my apartment with a bookmark in it for around a year. Finally, I sat down and read the last half in one go. It was solid (3 and a half), but it didn't quite have the punch of the first one, but I'd be lying if the ending (which promises a serial killer hunt) didn't get me excited for the next one.

More cinematic violent fun in this series. Can't take it seriously, and don't think the reader is supposed to. Hanging Fire is like a novelization to the most violent Republic cowboy serial never made. An appropriate kickoff to a summer of reading western paperbacks, as I just bought stacks of them. In a better media, Red would be able to launch a series of Joe Noose movies for streaming.

Hanging fire

One of the westerns I’ve ever read. I liked the characters and the plot moved fast. I liked noose as the hero and I couldn’t put the book down. Great read!

Just like the first book, it was full of action, adventure, thrills and surprises.
A man's man book. Liked it very much.
