From the author of The New York Times best-selling Marriage Games comes a deeply intense and sexy series.

Everything is going to be perfect.

Greyson comes home from deployment to live the life she and her husband Caden dreamed of. He has a surgical residency, and she has a psychiatric practice in the basement of their Manhattan brownstone.

Everything is going to be fine.

Caden loves his wife more than he can measure. But soon after she comes home, he starts hearing whispers. Someone else loves her. Someone else wants her. There's someone else, and though whoever's behind the whispers will move mountains to have her, Caden will move heaven and earth to keep her.

Everything is going to hell.

Greyson will never break her vows, even as their marriage snaps apart one piece at a time; even as the line between dreams and reality blurs. Even as Caden demands control, and Greyson cedes it, she will never, ever turn her back on him.

When their marriage crumbles, love becomes the one thing holding them together.

C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

"He wasn’t the man I’d married, but he was my husband."

GOOD GOD people!!! I don't even know where to start. This book was absolutely outstanding and had vintage C.D. Reiss feels. It was intense and raw and so gripping. I could not stop reading the minute I started. Greyson and Caden were fire! Their chemistry was combustible and the genuine love they have for each other was palpable. I could not get enough of this story!

Without giving away and spoilers this book opens where we are immersed into the life of Greyson and Caden who married each other while meeting while deployed. Now Greyson is back home and having to transition to civilian life with a husband she spent more time away from than with. But when deep dark secrets emerge, Greyson will have to enter into the fight of her life to save the man she married.

GAHH! This story was amazing. Greyson and Caden were so addicting and compelling to read. Rough Edge is sexy, edgy and pushed all of our boundaries. It is also haunting and honest with a mysterious and intriguing edge. It is one of the hottest goddamn books C.D. Reiss has ever written. I got Jonathan Drazen feels and I loved every second of it. I seriously can not wait for book two! Bravo! 5 stars! Ratula

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2! Rough Edge, book 1 of 4. A marriage explored with rough sex until deeper & darker sexual proclivities are exposed threatening everything!

“His hands were instruments of brutal precision, and his cock was a means of punishment.”

Books in The Edge series should be read in order:
Book 0.5: Cutting Edge
Book 1: Rough Edge
Book 2: On the Edge
Book 3: Broken Edge
Book 4: Over the Edge

“Collar open to the edges of the hair on his chest. Thick watch setting the boundary for the precision of his hands. Eyes of cold, dark sapphire that would get darker and colder very soon.”

Rough Edge (book 1) opens up to army major and psychiatrist Dr. Greyson Frazier, Grey retiring after fourteen years of service to her country. She is heading to New York to start her new life with her husband, Dr. Caden St. John, army captain and heart surgeon and the man she met and married while they both served in Iraq.

It’s 2006 and in flashbacks and unfolding events the story follows them as they settle into married life, enjoying copious amount of sex, testing boundaries while pushing their love to the edge. Rougher sex, with breath-play, escalates skating on a sadist-masochist relationship and beyond while a looming mysterious darkness, to be explored throughout series, threatens everything.

Told from dual POVs, it’s a erotic tale edged in mixed signals and shrouded in mystery. I loved the complexity, intensity and brutal honesty that Caden brought to their love and the bedroom. And though he pushed Greyson to the edge over and over I think, ultimately, she holds the secret to their future. Story ends taking us from dark to darker with the possibilities of conspiracies and much more. Up next: book 2, On the Edge for the continuation of their story.

Lyrical story-telling! Dirty-talking and commanding hero!

“Tomorrow, I’ll wake up in love again. Ready to conquer the world with my woman. Et cetera, et cetera.”

Have some wine and a fan handy because the ride you are about to take is one hot mindfuck of a rollercoaster.
Excerpt:

"Don't flinch." He tapped the loop of the belt in his palm, looking between my legs. My breath picked up, getting shallower and faster. [...]

He slapped the inside of my thigh with the leather, and I flinched before it struck, then gritted my teeth from the raw sting, twisting with my knees together.

"Open your legs." He pulled them apart. "What are you afraid of?"

"Caden's eyes had the color and layered depth of the Iraqi sky. When I missed him, I looked up."

Caden and Greyson’s love was born in the blood of war. While they were both in the Army, distance and protocol often relegated them to sporadic stolen moments and the occasional getaway. Now out of the military, they are trying to adjust to civilian life as a married couple.

“We’re going to build an entire life out of a war.”

With dark, introspective storytelling, we are lead inside a tale of brutal love and sacrifice. Pleasure and pain.

How well do you know the person you married? How far are you willing to go for love?

"I had to hurt Greyson. I had to fuck her like a fighter. Mark her like a vandal. Break her like a champion."

Twisty books with a dark tone and a rough edge are my addiction, and Caden and Greyson's story is smooth mindfuckery with a hard kinky finish. Thought-provoking, heart-stopping, and hot as hell, Rough Edge is one sexy little mindfuck with an ending that will leave you floored! I have so many theories I've tied myself in knots.

If you liked The Games Duet, Submission, and Forbidden, then strap in and get ready for CD Reiss to go back to her roots and set your world on fire. Caden St. John has arrived!

Holy shit. CD Reiss kicks off The Edge series with book one and it is an explosive installment. We meet our main characters Greyson and her husband, Caden The story kicks off with Greyson’s return home and to civilian life. Having met during their time in the military, their life is about to begin without deployments and sand keeping them at a distance.

And that’s all you’re going to get out of me ;) This is the first book in a four-book series and it is an explosive installment.

For fans of the Submission Series and Marriage Games, you get that intense erotic vibe, but with The Edge, you also get this thrilling darkness just below the surface.

The writing is stunning and hauntingly beautiful. The connection between Greyson and Caden fills the room. It’s a living, breathing part of this experience.

And this first installment is fuck hot. It’s rough, its boundary-pushing, it’s a throbbing pulse of heat.

Erotica, romance, and suspense tangled in a sweaty mess of goodness.

This is a no-hands read. While you’re busy biting your nails, the other hand is going to be shoved in your pants.

SWEET BABY JESUS. I can't wait for you to be as stunned and breathless as I am right now. It's going to take me a bit to compose my thoughts about this epic, brilliant bit of mind fuckery. In the mean time, I leave you with this hot AF excerpt, courtesy of the Queen:

EXCERPT

I spun her and grabbed her from behind, pressing my erection against her. I hooked my fingers in her underwear and snapped it. She got them down to her knees with me still holding her against me, and I wedged my hand between her legs. Throbbing and wet. The temptation to get her off quickly so I feel that first bite of satisfaction was in the muscles of my hands.

But the other hand wanted more. The other hand wanted to bring her to the edge of death and back again. Collar her with my body. Restrain her most basic bodily function.

"Caden." She put her hand over mine. I didn't whisper or speak. I didn't move either hand. I just held her against me, waiting. "Breath play. You want breath play?"

My hand on her throat, I tightened just a little.

******
If you’re lucky, you occasionally pick up a book and it only takes you a few pages to know that the story is going to be something special. Rock your world special. That happened to me today. Rough Edge is weapons grade CD Reiss, and her finest work to date. It’s dark. So, so dark. Brutal and tender. Love and Lust and Longing distilled to its essence in the crucible of war. You’ve never met a couple like Caden and Greyson, and their provocative story of wartime courtship and peacetime marriage is a sexy, scary reflection on devotion, limits and self. If the thought of Jonathan Drazen or Adam Steinbeck made you flushed and anxious and needy, be ready to kneel for the sexiest beast in town, Caden St. John. He IS the siren’s song – tempting you to throw yourself on the brutality of his cool, calculated passion. The Edge is going to take married romance to the abyss and soar over it. I guarantee you haven’t read anything like this before.

I was so excited at the start of this book. C.D. was back and she was keeping it dark. Then I experienced the rough edge. She literally takes you to the edge of anticipation, love , angst and oaths. You will challenge what you believe love and understanding truly means when you marry someone. As a wife I could relate to Greyson. Deep down we all want to be everything our husbands want, need and desire. But her journey will just rock you. Out of your comfort zone and onto the Edge.

Mind so BLOWN. Crazy.Intense.Passionate here is a excerpt from Rough Edge

"Yes. That was mine. Her mindless pleasure. Her hooked fingers. Her red ass. My bite mark. The cyclone of desires surrounding us flipped me over again. I was her lover and her tormentor. Her husband and attacker. Her pain and my pleasure spinning in a centrifuge.

"Filling her, I claimed her inside and out, and the whirlwind stopped."

This story is unlike anything else I’ve read before. Maybe there is a story like this out there. Maybe one that people love and have raved about. Maybe I’ll even come across it one day. But what I do know is that this book will always take precedent. It will always be my first and it will always remind me of why I’m in love with the writing of CD Reiss. And why I am so absolutely in love with the characters she has created for this series, Caden and Greyson.

So. Freaking. Hot!!

Caden and Greyson were both doctors. He was a heart surgeon and she was a psychiatrist. They served in the war, met in the war, fell in love during the war, and came home. They came home to start their new lives, more in love than ever.

We were so deep inside each other, there was no such thing as a public place.

But this couple didn’t come home alone. And witnessing their individual struggles to understand what was happening was heartbreaking. Caden himself made me want to give him huge hugs and I wanted to rally behind Greyson for her endless support. They say that what doesn’t break you makes you stronger and I hope and pray this holds true for them. However, as much as I’m wishing for Caden to figure things out, I’m loving his dominance.

Inside the sound of my wife’s sobs, where wet hitch met breathy exhale, where true guilt met broken sorrow, the Thing spoke.

That ending though? I’m both devastated and excited for the next book, On The Edge. I need to know what happens next and I’ll be on EDGE until its release.

I received a VERY early ARC from Ms. Reiss. Thank you Christine!

I am not going to give you much about book #1, yes I said book #1. Before you get your panties in a twist, if you have been living under a rock, this is a 4 book series. Each book will release three weeks apart. I don't want to read or hear any grumblings about cliffhangers. You've been warned and you all should be happy we're not waiting three months per book. Okay I feel so much better getting that out of my system.

Here's what I will say, you will meet Dr. Greyson Fraizer (she's a major in the Army) and Captain Caden St. John. Yes, I'm honestly doing a happy dance that she outranks her man. She's a shrink, he's a heart surgeon. They meet during the war in Iraq. Caden has been been back in NYC starting up his fellowship, after being honorably discharged, and Greyson is finally finishing her final tour and coming home to her man. Now to see if she can deal in being back to the civilian world.

So I am going to stop here. If you are fan of C.D. Reiss, hopefully you have read the Songs of Submission Series or even her Games duet. Hmmm how can I put this mildly ... you are all going to lose your mind with Rough Edge. It's SoS and Games duet on steroids, in the best possible way. It's definitely a lot more edgier and darker than the two series I mention above.

This is CD Reiss at her very best and she will not disappoint!

Just one hot as hell excerpt to whet your appetite for the new series from CD Reiss:
"Would you be less afraid of hurting me if we tried to focus more on giving you control?"
He looked at my arm, his mouth twisted with consideration, as if he was holding his thoughts back.
"Well?" I asked.
"We could try it. But I'm warning you." He put an upraised finger between us. "You'd better be controllable, or we're going back to pain."

Rough Edge 1 photo rough edge 1.jpg
You need to prepare yourselves for this book.

The sex.
The couple.
The mindfuck.

Be ready.
Because I wasn't.

~~~~○○○○~~~~○○○○~~~~
What I didn’t realize when I picked up Rough Edge was the total mindfuck I was about to experience.
This couple, this married couple who have spent very little time together outside of a war zone, is not what I expected when I started. CD Reiss has managed to keep me in suspense through the entire book.
Because, really, how can you have this smart, sophisticated man breaking down into something he doesn’t recognize? How can you have this intelligent, strong woman handing herself over to a man she doesn’t recognize?
Is Caden the same man she married? Is he the man she pledged her life to? Or is something changing, shifting within him—within THEM—that can’t be put back together? How far is too far?
What’s a limit if you can’t push it?
Rough Edge is sexy, smart, and unlike anything else I’ve read. CD Reiss may have won me over with Adam Steinbeck (Marriage Games, if you haven’t read it, what the fuck is wrong with you?!), but she’s going to hold me forever with Caden and Greyson.
You’d better be controllable or we’re going back to pain.
Can you ever really control someone? Can you do it without inflicting any pain on their body or their mind? What kind of relationship do you have when you can control that other person? Who is really in
charge?
There’s a name for this.
The book is hot. Know that going in. The book is twisted and a mindfuck. You should know that too. But that ending? That ending is what will leave you with your jaw on the floor. You’ll keep trying to swipe for more pages and there won’t be any. You’ll want the next book before you close out your kindle. And you’ll have to wait.
4.25" Major & Captain" Stars
Greyson and Caden met each other in a war zone and got married. Now that they’re not in the army anymore, she is MD with a psychiatric practice and he’s a surgeon. But since they’ve come back something’s wrong with Caden. Of course Greyson has some issues too, like having a problem with adjusting to civilian life but her husband’s issue is really serious. He thinks/feels that he's being watched, but just when he’s with Greyson. She is the target of the "Thing". That "Thing" is eating him alive. He even named it! And that "Thing" makes him do unacceptable things to Greyson, try to break her.
"Every time you’re in the room, it gets stronger. Every time I think of you, it comes out a little more."
Such an enjoyable story! I love the author’s writing style! The story itself was really compelling, I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to know what’s wrong with him and how they’re gonna fix it but alas it was cliffy! I liked how Caden was fighting with himself but still couldn’t suppress the Thing's needs, he really tried but… and I liked that Greyson wasn’t afraid of him. He was her anchor…
"It’s making me not want to think of you, and that’s unacceptable, trying to keep away from you."
"I could starve it out, but if I starve it out, I starve you out. I won’t let it do that to me."
Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s the first installment in "The Edge" series and it ends on a cliffhanger. It’s well-written and angsty. looking forward to reading the second book. All in all, it was an enjoyable read for me and hope you like it as well!
I. Am. Emotionally. Exhausted.
Eight hours. Eight straight hours from ten a.m to six p.m is what it took me to read this first installment in the Rough series.
It was like going back in time and falling in love with CD Reiss' writing all over again. This was classic Reiss. The teasing, the anticipation, the angst. The unconditional love. The inevitable suffering from that very love that holds our favorite characters together. All of it is within these very pages.
Every word and syllable, every vowel that is written in this story, felt like a warm blanket on my enraptured mind. Putting this book down was simply impossible, adulting be damned.
We meet Caden and Greyson. Both strong, successful characters whose only downfall is the depth of their love for each other. And yet, it's also the pillar that holds them strong.
War and tragedy bring them together but their marriage will be tested when the past comes floating into their present.
As usual, I refuse to give anything away concerning the story but I will say this: Rough Edge is, for me, a return to the very reason why I adore the fuck out of CD Reiss' writing.
There aren't enough stars to quantify my love for this story.
You don't believe me? Here's proof: Rough Edge is now tied on my Reiss-scale with The Submission Series.
Yeah, it's THAT FUCKING GOOD.
5 “Breathless” Stars
Rough Edge roughed me up completely. It took hold of me the only way that a CD Reiss book can do. It held me hostage, it captivated me, it took my breath away and it enamored my love of the dark and messed up recesses of sexuality.
Drs. Greyson Frazier and Caden St. John are doctors who are married and veterans. She is a psychiatrist and he, the heart surgeon. Both are beautiful, handsome, sexy and madly in love. But changes begin to happen and it their effects the dynamics of their marriage. Secrets, mysteries, PTSD, and a darkness envelops their lives. That darkness is powerful and conflicting and ROUGH.....it takes their life to the edge and threatens to push them over.
There’s not much more I want to share with you. The story should be felt organically as it happens. Page by page, my mouth became ajar with the happenings. The darkness and the emergence of erotic play will grab you and at times, it is hard to read. But with the poetic, passionate, emotional and gripping words from the author, the story becomes addicting. I like to refer to this as Vintage CD Reiss.....love, darkness, kink, twisted intimacy at its finest.
This book is the first in a 4 part series with a just added prequel. This books ends with a cliffy. One that fills the mind with all the scenarios that will be going forward. I loved this story and I can only imagine the depths that these two characters will be exposed too. While I’m a little nervous.......I know this journey will have Me on Edge the entire time.
“You and me. We’re a miracle.”- Caden
To our everlasting delight, C.D. Reiss has penned the most inventive erotic epic with soul-stirring artistry of language and mind-boggling intrigue. This book will set mind body and soul on fire.
Two battle-tested US Army physicians discovered their love amidst the horror and trauma of a bloody protracted war. Greyson, the major and psychiatrist, who found her home in the Army was planning on being a “lifer”. Her plans changed when her captain husband, Caden, convinced her to leave the Army and set up private practice in New York where he’s from and where he has a lucrative practice as a cardiac surgeon. We meet them as Greyson sets foot on American soil again for the first time since her deployment to Iraq.
In an intimate telling of the story with narrative first person dual POVs, we watch the couple who is madly and hopelessly in love undergo a fundamental change where control, pleasure and pain commingle in their explosive couplings. OMG!!! Seriously sexy and dark…you really must try not to lose consciousness. Le swoon!!! Caden could not be written any more the intelligently irresistible, deliciously dirty-talking, Alpha male. He has skilled hands (Eeep!) which bring the beautiful and dedicated Greyson untold pleasure and pain to her delight.
Fundamentally though, something isn’t quite right. In a creative and lyrical style, the author teases us with possibilities and hints for things in Greyson and Caden’s relationship being on the edge…an edge that is coming closer, harder, faster...and rougher than any surface than has been subjected to an irregular grindstone.
As almost subtext to this intensely erotic read is a commentary about “the dogs of war” and the machinery that employs them. There’s even a plan to make the “dogs” more invulnerable…more calculating and as such more methodically vicious.
I found my mind venturing down shadowy and dark alleys of thought and ideas. In this darkness there is one thing on which I will place my bets. Whatever the obstacles…even as they discover they enjoy their sex taken to the edge, Greyson and Caden love each other beyond any challenge before them or perhaps conspiracy against them. They are after all, in Caden’s words, “a miracle”.
“Caden and I were an incurable condition.” - Greyson
“I wanted to explain how magnificent we’re going to be.” - Caden
Fantastic and intense and I need MORE! I very much like CD Reiss going back to her dark roots....
CD Reiss has for a long time been one of my very favourite authors and the start of this series shows me exactly why. For me she is at her absolute heart stopping best when she gets down and dirty and delivers a dark and twisty romance and ROUGH EDGE is the beginning of exactly that. Oh, my goodness, I'm so very excited to read more. The series will comprise of four delicious novella length books with married couple Greyson and Caden at the heart of the story.
The dynamic between the couple is intense and passionate. They have a deep sensual all-consuming love for one another which, it becomes clear, will take them to some dark and maybe dangerous places together because of issues Caden has….... I won't say more but my mind is blown, I've no idea where or how dark the narrative is going but I do not want to leave this story experience or the characters, it was addictive compulsive reading. The writing is pacey, not a word is wasted. It's a short novel yet the author conveys so much within the framework of her tight prose showing development of plot and character and most importantly, emotion. I will most definitely be reading this first part again before the next instalment is unleashed to the reading world, so friends, do not delay #oneclick today and enjoy the ride of this story!
4.5 ⭐ So intriguing!!! I don't know what I expected, but I know it wasn't what I just read. Wow!
This is the story of Dr. Caden St. John and Dr. Greyson Frazier (love her name!). They met in the military and under very extreme and intense circumstances. Greyson a army major and psychiatrist and Caden a army captain and heart surgeon.
One look and Caden knew she would be his...
“𝙎𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬, 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢? 𝙈𝙮 𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣. 𝙄 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙪𝙘𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪.” 𝙈𝙮 𝙥𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙮 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙛 𝙝𝙚’𝙙 𝙠𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩. “𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙚.” “𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬.” 𝙃𝙚 𝙥𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙥 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙚𝙛𝙩.
That was Caden to a T. He was assertive, brazen and beyond confident in his abilities - his ability to do ALL things.
They were HOT, HOT, HOT.. So combustible. So much fire and attraction. Their relationship soared instantly. They went from colleagues to marriage in the blink of an eye. Shortly after their whirlwind of a relationship started, Greyson retires from the army and has to adjust to being a wife, but more so a civilian after 14 years of military service.
It appears that Caden is functioning better at adjusting away from military life, but is he really.
Something is going on and Greyson can tell. It helps that she is a psychiatrist and can see the tiniest of things that a normal person would most likely miss, but when it happens to you and the person you are head over heels for you put blinders on. You start making excuses. You start questioning your actions. You wonder if it's something you might have played a part in... By then it could becomes too late.
Her husband has changed. Little by little she watches him fade away.
Was it the influence of being in the military?
He has become colder, withdrawn and unhinged. He is different. His once kind and loving hands have become hurtful. He needs to cause pain and have dominance and then a semblance of the man she knows and loves emerges for a time. She is willing into endure it all at his hands because she loves him, but she also finds pleasure in the pain.
𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙮𝙨𝙤𝙣, 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙖 𝙧𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙤𝙣 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙠, 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙤𝙠𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙚𝙭. 𝘿𝙧. 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙮𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙯𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙤𝙠𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙨 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨.
How far is one wife willing to go to keep her husband?? How much hurt and emotional turmoil is she willing to endure to have her husband back, in one unfractured piece, 100% back at full capacity. How far can true love go?
“𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗜’𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗜’𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲, 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗸, 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘀𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘀. 𝗜’𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.”
How much can one husband ask for his unwavering wife to endure on his behalf. How much is he willing to let her loose herself for him? How much pain is willing to give to the one he loves. The one who holds his heart in the palm of her hands.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀—𝗻𝗼, 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀—𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗺𝗶𝗰, 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆-𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘅 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗼.
This is story is something else. It pulled me in from the start. This is my first time reading anything by C.D. Reiss and it won't be my last!! The writing, the characters, the plot - all superb and thought provoking. Such an intense story.
There is SO much I want to say, but this is a story that you need to read firsthand. You won't be sorry!!
Rough Edge follows a married couple, Caden and Greyson. They met while in active duty. There is a little bit of toggling between past and present but for the most part this book is focused on these two living as a married couple and civilians for the first time.
Caden is a heart surgeon and Greyson is starting her own psychiatric practice. She is focusing on helping vets dealing with PTSD. These two are madly in love and can't keep their hands off each other until suddenly Caden starts becoming cold towards Greyson one minute and obsessed with her another. Greyson starts to worry what Caden's behavior means but what she initially thought, isn't what's going on. In fact, as a reader you really don't know what's going on either.
I really don't think I should say any more, not that I could explain what is going on anyway. One thing I can say is it was a total mind trip. I went into this book blind and I highly recommend doing the same. It's an experience this author is known for giving her readers. It's going to have you scrambling to try to figure out what is going on, how far this author is going to take this and who will these people be when it is all said and done.
The author leaves us hanging on a pretty big moment and I need the second book NOW!!! ARC provided by author.
4.5 “Fasten your Seatbelts, It's going to be a Bumpy Night” Stars
* * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free
For those who discovered C.D.Reiss through Songs of Submission, this new series will be of interest. If the Marriage/Separation Games was your introduction, this will call to you. This is the Reiss who puts what's on the page without hesitation or concern.
This is the fearless Reiss who tells us she "Did the Research... but I also make stuff up for a living". This is the Reiss we all love... free to write, show us all the ugly/beauty/reality of what relationships can be.
They may not be relationships we understand at first...but as the reading continues it becomes very clear...Love shows itself in many different ways.
This is a series of 4 books coming out in quick succession. Be prepared, understand what you are in for...and as I said, Bette Davis said it best as Margo Channing, "Fasten your Seatbelts, It's going to be a Bumpy Night."
There is a Prequel, Cutting Edge, available to give you the backstory of this couple and then the next entry, On the Edge, is coming this June.
Genre: Erotic Romance
Type: Book 1 of 4 from The Edge Series
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:
Greyson Frazier grew up in a military family. As a psychiatrist, she thought she would be helping military personnel for years to come. But instead, she found love and sacrificed her service for the country and lived a quiet civillian life with her loving husband.
Caden St. John had everything he ever wanted. With an illustrious career as a heart surgeon and a wife he loved more than life, he lived a charmed life. But underneath it all laid a force they can't control that would could possibly take them over the edge.
I knew how to be detached. My job required it. But I couldn’t be. Not with him.
This book carried the kind of premise that I enjoy reading. And what made it even more interesting is the background dynamic between the characters. I love seeing humanity and how the characters rationalized and handled their issues.
The sexy scenes were scorching. I like how the characters were willing to push to the very edge of their boundaries.
“You made this monster. How do you like it?”
Rough Edge is the first book in a four part series. It would appeal to readers looking for a sexy, intense story.
Holy moly this was intense and filled with twists and turns. CD Reiss kept me on the edge of my seat leaving me questioning everything about Caden and Greyson. I enjoyed this couple and their dynamic. She’s a major and he’s a captain which was a cool surprise that she outranked him. Now that Greyson is home from war she’s working as a psychiatrist and Caden a heart surgeon. It takes time for her to get back to the civilian life and slowly things with Caden starts to change. That’s all I want to reveal. Their chemistry is off the charts and as the story unfolds so does their sexual needs. The heat and tension increased as well and I was entertained big time.
Rough Edge is the first book in a four book series and it was a fabulous introduction to this married couple. CD Reiss has laid a great foundation for the remaining books. She’s an expert when it comes to dark and edgy erotica and with Rough Edge she succeeds flawlessly.
I’m ready for more. More twists and delicious sexy scenes between Caden and Greyson. This is just the beginning and I couldn’t be happier.
What the f*ck did I just read???
So Caden and Greyson are a married couple. They both are from military background. Both love each other but Caden is not normal. He is stalked by this THING, which takes over him at times. He suddenly becomes a sadist who is obsessed with his wife. And it makes him do bodily harm to his wife while having sex.
Is it a Force? Entity? Ghost? Demon?
But this is not a paranormal romance....
Greyson really tries to help her husband. They think it might be PTSD.
I did not like how the story unfolded. I was intrigued with the plot which initially made me finish the book. Unfortunately I found myself skipping though page after page just so I could get to the good parts. I will likely read the next book only because I need to have resolution. Because nothing is solved. At least not in this book. Because it ends in a huge Cliffhanger. And I hate Cliffys😡.
Rating:
4 Stars
Main Genres:
Contemporary Romance, BDSM
Brief Synopsis:
The story begins getting to know a newly married couple. They both are ex-military, doctors, and have high ambitions in life. However, problems start for the couple that begin affecting their marriage, and causing a rough edge to their sex life.
"He was a son of a bitch, a cold-hearted compartmentalizer with a heart of solid stone. His hands were instruments of brutal precision, and his cock was a means of punishment. He wasn’t the man I’d married, but he was my husband."
Version:
I was given a pre-ARC unedited version. Although, for being unedited, it was still pretty clean & easy to read.
DNF.
I couldn't get past chapter 3.
description
If I were to describe this book, it was like trying to shove down a real dry ass turkey down my throat. I was bored, and it read more like an instruction book than a novel with the way it was so dryly narrated.
The premise of the story was intriguing, but there was just too many characters name involved even at the beginning of the book that made me immediately lost interest. Not to mention, the fact that both the main characters were supposed to be happily married and in love, but came off as two robots trying to function in a relationship just doesn't do it for me.
A for effort, better luck next time Miss Reiss.
Cheers.
5 "You made this monster." Stars
This book, leaves you breathless and uncomfortable, and feels like vintage C.D. Reiss. Back to beginning when I fell in love with this authors uniquely stylized, intricate, thoughtful writing and bold, passionate story telling. The way she interlaces psychology and manipulation with brilliant fervor throughout the pages of her stories. Rough Edge holds all of that within it's pages and so much more. It's deeply nuanced into a streamline of one couple's story of keeping it together despite the enormous challenge set before them. It's brave, complex, intense, and classically laced with Reiss's distinct trickery to leave you reeling without knowing which way is up.
"We're going to build an entire life out of a war."
Dr. Caden St. John runs ice cold and his wife Dr. Greyson Frazier perpetuates warmth. The two of them fell for each other under specific circumstances tethering them to the utmost of crucial, importance circumstances surrounding their fall. Navigating a life outside of those circumstances after a whirlwind courtship becomes as emotionless as it does fiery. They're both dangerous in ways we as readers can't even understand yet. Both of them are discovering facets of themselves that have been hidden in the shadows of their lives until the point of recognition in each other. And the threat of that mysteriously dark and menacing allure feels as exciting as it does confusing and reckless. As their impulsive love and deeply connected, twisted journey begins to untangle exposing vulnerabilities, weaknesses and so much more a story like no other will take you for the most consuming of rides.
"That's very poetic."
I'm giddy with excitement over this dangerously remarkable book and the dark promise of what's to come in the rest of this intriguing series. C.D. Reiss packs a powerful punch introducing readers to what's sure to be a thrilling, mindful, impassioned, edgy series of books featuring these two one-of-a-kind characters. Rough Edge skirts the lines of possibility within the gray areas by pushing boundaries, blurring lines, and crossing into the shadows hidden beneath the surface. It's classic C.D. Reiss. The kind of storytelling I fell in love with when first introduced to her. It's beautifully mind bending and tragically healing. And I can't wait for more.
Well damn! That was erotic, hot AF, and all sorts of mind blowing.
Caden is an enigma. A generous and compassionate husband on one end of the spectrum and a demanding, take charge alpha on the other. I had no idea what to expect since I went in blind, but holy wow did I get more than I bargained for.
Here's what I loved: It's the CD Reiss that I love! Dark and edgy. The book pushes past normal conventions of romance. If you're looking for sweet, this isn't it. I love flirting with the edge. Seeing what lurks underneath and in the shadows. That's exactly what Rough Edge gives the reader. I certainly got what I wanted.
The writing reflects the tone of the book. It's distinctive and feels like part of the experience.
The secondary characters and the conflict were the shining stars for me. Number one because I saw some diversity in the characters and secondly because I've never read anything like this before. It's intriguing and grabbed my attention like nothing else has in a long while. In a word, Amazing! The author didn't shy away from the tough topics in this one. I don't want to give anything away, so just read it and see for yourself. Recommended!
4.5 Stars!
After serving fourteen years in the army, Greyson Frazier is a psychiatrist acclimating to private practice and a new marriage. With a competitive streak, Greyson pushes limits within the confines of a structured environment but she slowly realizes the boundaries have changed.
“There’s so much we’re going to do together.” He kissed my neck. “We’re going to build an entire life out of a war.”
Caden St. John is a heart surgeon who volunteered his time to mend injured soldiers. Having a complicated past, Caden has always been able to separate his emotions but circumstances emerge that cause Caden to fight what he feels.
“Something was there with us, in the room, and it wanted me.”
Together, Greyson and Caden are a complimentary couple with each offering a balance to their dynamic. As Greyson begins to observe changes in Caden, she attempts to help him using scientific methods but she also is willing to try what he believes will chase away his fears. As this pain and pleasure cycle occurs, their relationship escalates leading to self-discovery and to questions about limits.
“I rotated my fingers on her nub, watching her try to maintain control over her questions. “While we’re doing it and you were hurting me? If I said stop, could you?”
Told in dual POV, Caden oozes dominance, sex appeal and offers a steady demeanor. With much mystery behind Caden’s conflict, the intensity of his inner struggle is effectively conveyed. In responding to Caden’s demands and needs, Greyson unexpectedly learns more about her own sexuality but her focus during this process is on healing Caden.
In starting this book, I was under the impression this author was returning to her roots, and upon finishing, it definitely seems like that holds true. In this narrative, these two characters are complex, dynamic and willing to sacrifice and fight for each other. Additionally, the pathos present in Caden is constantly at the edge of his behavior driving him to force out his darkest demons. I am hoping it gets even darker as more is revealed and in how Caden and Greyson are able to reconcile what they discover.
Rough Edge is an intensely erotic story about characters making sacrifices and pushing limits. With a pulse on her characters and a plot that breathes on its own, CD Reiss will take you on the edge.
