Michael I messed up. In every single way imaginable. I've let down everyone I’ve ever cared about. Now, I’m determined to make it right. I’m back, and I’m totally at the mercy of Shriller and Jax, family friends. And her. The one woman I’m convinced will be the end of me. The toughest addiction I’ve ever faced. Dani Desperation is a funny thing. Out of college with no job and slowly running out of money, I’m the epitome of desperate. Desperate to prove myself. Desperate not to be the spoiled girl with daddy issues. Desperate enough to take a job that’ll push me to my breaking point. I can do this. I have to. I just have to keep reminding myself not to fall for the charming, damaged boy-turned-man who holds secrets deeper than I could have ever imagined.

Oh my goodness.... This book is quite the rollercoaster of emotions. I'm trying to write this review without giving any spoilers away.
Firstly, Michael and Dani are characters that readers of this series will know well and it was in the previous book we saw Michael begin to spiral. In this book we see two people , each with their own issues & heartbreak , collide , combust and crash.
This story ends on a cliffhanger (you wicked woman Ms Dykes- my poor Kindle heart!!) I never would have put Dani and Michael together and if I'm honest, I'm still unsure BUT I do have faith in Nicole's writing and her ability to catapult me out of my comfort zone. I think it is unfair to come to a decision about a couple's comparability when the ending is a cliffie. These two will either heal each other and be magnificent or they are going to utterly destroy each other.Either way, the impact is going to be big.
It was great to see the rest of the gang. Shriller and Jax play a big part.
I'm itching for the next book....
Many thanks to the Author for the ARC. This is my honest opinion.
Ahhhh I love Nicole and I love her Monroe series. Michael’s story was sad and heartbreaking for me. If you have read this series from the beginning then you know that Michael starts off as this sweet boy, somewhat nerdy but completely adorable.
Somewhere along the way he becomes this damaged self destructive young man and causes pain to those that love him the most. Now he’s back and determined to right the wrongs but he’s got a long road ahead of him and he still seems to have his issues.
Dani well I’ll admit at first I wasn’t so sure about her, with her history with Cam (again if you’ve read past books you would know what I’m talking about, although this book will lay it out for you) it was hard to see her as someone I would root for. But I loved her in this and oh did my heart go out to her as well.
Now Nicole hits us in this one with a plot twist that I didn’t see coming and I’ll be honest I was shocked and it finally all made sense to me why Michael acted out the way he has.
But of course this story has me reeling a bit at the end of it and I’m sitting here screaming that I need more right now.
This story can be read as a standalone but it’s a great series and I recommend it to anyone who loves a series that revolves around a set of characters that you can’t help but fall in love with.
I am ashamed to admit Unbreakable is my first Nicole Dykes book, but it will not be my last!! Reading this book has made me want to go back to the beginning of the series, which I fully intend to do!! This book made me feel so much, anger at Michael for just up and leaving, feeling like he's not good enough to come back to his family. Heartbreak for all the things he's been through and how he decided to handle those feelings within himself. I really enjoyed Dani putting him in his place, and calling him on his crap!! I loved Dani and Michael together. Dani has some of her own issues, but I'm hoping they can maybe help each other, and be together. The ending of this book left me wanting to throw my kindle, curse Nicole for being evil...but wanting more!! Unbreakable was amazing, and I would totally recommend to anyone that they need to read this book!! I can't wait for what comes next!!!
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
Michael broke my heart in Dylan's story. This book made my heart even worse. This book gave you a look into Michael's life and everything that he keeps hidden from the rest of the world. He disappeared for two years.. Left his family with a note. Everyone worries and is waiting for him to just come home... They are still heartbroken two years later.
Michael doesn't have it all together but he knows what he wants. He wants to race. He needs help from some family friends to get racing. With secrets there wil be rules and babysitters. In comes Dani. Dani is Cass's best friend she has been part of the family for as long as she can remember. Last time she saw Michael he kissed her and disappeared for two years. Now he's back and she has to keep it a secret from the only family she has. She's the one who is going to help him through all the tough times so he can follow his dreams. There's a set of rules to follow and she has to make sure he doesn't break them. Being an addict and not being able to drink or do drugs there's only one other thing Michael wants..
Dani and Michael have each other to deal with very serious things. But at least they have each other until everything backfires ..
I highly recommend this book. I will say if you're anything like me you'll be pissed when it's over ...

Every time I read one of Nicole Dykes books I think she really gutted me that time.
This time though... she has completely out done herself.
Michael and Dani are so wrong for each other. They are both broken beyond repair. Both in desperate need of each other.
Michael has made some crap decisions and now he has to man up and make things right.
Dani was never one of my favorite characters in this series. She always worked my nerves. I hated her with Cam.
Nicole achieved the un achievable. She made me root for Dani, she made my heart break for this girl.
Dani is so alone even when she’s surrounded by soo many people. She’s always been the odd man out and she knows it. How heartbreaking it would be to go through life feeling that way.
Michael and Danni are one of my favourite people in this series, so I was beyond excited to read this. Michael and Danni both have the bad boy/bad girl vibe but with hearts in the right places. I just adore them.
In this book you read about the struggles they both face and the comfort they find in each other. It was emotional and had the ending where you go "Ohhh my god. No you cannot do this!" but Nicole does. As much as you want to curse her, you can't because you know....book 2 eek!!!!!
It was amazing. The emotion and strife jumps from the pages. It was stunning and totally breaks you. Love it.
Are you looking for an emotional roller coaster ride, a high and low so epic you don’t rather to scream, cry or toss your kindle so hard it shatters? Look no further than this book. Micheal is torn he’s addicted and the family bad boy, he’s a Monroe that definitely didn’t follow the Monroe form. Dani is a family friend best friends to Micheal’s sister Cassie, and she’s keeping one secret that could totally destroy her friendship and place in the Monroe family, in fact she’s one of three risking everything to help Micheal come home and start over. This book has you going from one feeling to the next in 0.0 seconds flat. I came in with strong feelings for Dani and Micheal and just knowing I wouldn’t like them or could like them, I was a nervous wreck going into the first few chapters of this book, and quickly found my self rooting for both Micheal and Dani and their relationship, although this one will leave you feeling a little something never fear ones coming right behind with all the answers this one could leave you wondering. Grab your tissues, hit your reading spot and get ready for emotional ride of highs and lows you don’t want to miss, not for one second. Once again Nicole Dykes shocked and awed me into loving two characters I never wanted to love.
Omg just when you think it cant get any better boom it can and it does. Another fantastic book to the series by Nicole. This book is about Michael Monroe after 2 years of being away his back, but he needs help, so he turns to Levi but he an't willing to help him till he goes and lets his family know that his back. Thats a big no so Michael seeks out Shriller and asks him ,who in turn gets help from others they are all sworn to secrecy. Dani is the last one one board with this, but does it anyway as she needs a job, after some time Michael opens up to Dani its heart wrenching, and i could shake him for what his holding back. I really loved this story cant wait for the next one of Micheal and Dani I'm rooting for them both just hope they can make it.
Well I have read all the books in this series and Dani was not my favorite character as she seems to be the woman who moves on everyone’s man but I figured maybe I could understand more of her. Dani agrees to work keeping Michael out of trouble so he can get back his life and his family but they decide to have a no feelings just sex relationship. Michael at twenty is an addict but Jax and the boys are trying to get him to come home and he wants to be a driver but he has to be clean first so Dani gets him to open up and we find out a lot more about Michael and what caused him to be this way. Fair warning the story does end in a cliffhanger and I am sure hoping the author is ready with the second book soon!
Nicole Dykes does it again! The continuing saga of the Monroe family. This book stands alone, but why wouldn't you want to read all of them. Michael is the 3rd of the brothers. Smart...really smart, until he becomes a teen. The Monroe bad boy comes out and you have trouble. He's been gone for 2 years, but he's back and misses his family. But he won't come back to them until he can prove himself. Just like all the other Monroe books, you'll have a hard time putting it down.
Dani and Micheal OMG!! I wanted to read so much more about them and what becomes of them. This is the second book of Nicoles that i have had the pleasure to read and neither disappoints! This story has so many emotions in it. You want to love and at the same time hate some of the characters. Such an easy read as it has you just wanting more to know what happens. You will NOT want it to end. Cant wait for the next chapter in Dani and Micheals story!
Wow! This book blew my mind. Nicole always seems to outdo herself. This is by far my favourite book that she has written (I seem to feel like this with every book she releases lol) This book will give you all the feels and put your emotions through the wringer. Trust me though, it's totally worth it ;) I wanna be a Monroe ❤️❤️
What can I say except this book was amazing! I received this book as an ARC from Nicole and once again I couldn't stop reading it! Each and every time Nicole blows me away with the characters stories.
Ok i can't even right now, Michael is so so broken, but i have so much faith and hope for this kid, he's a flipping Monroe, he has to do right and land on his feet. But finished Unbreakable, I can't breathe right now. His and Dani story will definitely stay with me a very long time.
This is the eighth book in the series. I was so excited about Michael and Dani's story and I was not disappointed. They make each other better. I also loved catching up with everyone from previous books. This book and the series is a must read.
Michael has made it back to KC but isn't quite ready to face the Monroe clan so he enlists the help off a select few to keep his secret and help him secured part of his future. One of the select few is Dani, his long term crush. Dani is down on her luck looking for work. When she is given a job but she must keep it secret she never expected to be staring at her best friends missing brother. Secrets and beds are shared before the truth of his return comes out.
Have been waiting to find out what happened to Michael. Thank goodness the wait is over! So glad “group therapy” was written in and how it does help some. Lots of emotional turmoil and finally finding the truth to a question I’ve had for a book or two!!Can’t wait for the next book to see who tries to move on in.... The Monroes really show how family is done right! Thanks for another great time

Michael Monroe has tons of demons in his closet. He keeps them hidden from his family and tries to deal with them all on his own. We first met Michael long ago when he was just a nerdy little boy. Going through hard times as he grows up has lead him to drugs, alcohol and running away. He is ready to come home and have his family stop hurting. But first he needs to get some things taken care of. And he has to ask family friends to keep his secrets just a little longer. All he has to do is follow some rules!
Dani is Michael’s sister Cassie’s best friend. She is currently out of a job and Shriller gives her a opportunity she cannot refuse so she can pay her bills. When Dani realizes her new job is to keep Michael out of trouble for a few months she knows this is a very , very bad idea. First, she is keeping a secret from her best friend. And second, she is actually very attracted to bad boy Michael. Once Michael starts to confide in Dani she realizes that she could possibly be in trouble when it comes to her feelings.
I have been waiting for Michael’s story for what seems like forever. As I was reading this book I was on an emotional rollercoaster. Once you find out what Michael has been dealing with you cannot help but to feel and hurt for and with him. And when the time comes to reveal himself to his family and let them know he is back my heart shatters for all of them. If you know the Monroe family then you know what I am talking about.
Now let’s talk about the ending! I am not sure if I broke my Kindle by throwing it but I am just in awe from the pure genius move that Nicole pulled here. Yes I definitely need more (like right now). I am so excited to see where Nicole takes us from here.
Holy freaking hell! She’s done it to me again. Once again I’m left reeling and trying to catch my breath from the emotionally-charged ride Nicole Dykes has taken me on. So many feels on this roller coaster of emotions, but what an awesome ride!
Dani and Micheal are such an unlikely couple. Both broken in their own way and emotionally closed off, but this is what makes them want to understand each other even while trying to maintain a distance. I loved Dani in this book. No longer the ‘other girl’ in the relationship, this time she’s front and center and we get to see who and why she is the way she is. Honestly, I loved that she has such a hard exterior and ‘thinks like a guy.’ She’s strong, independent, owns her sexuality and makes no apologies for it. Micheal was a surprise as a character. He comes off cold and calculating in previous books, but as his relationship and trust with Dani grow she begins to peel back his layers and we all find out how deep his grief goes and how it has led to so many mistakes further tragedies. Both are so broken and believe themselves irreparably damaged, but with each other they’re whole and begin to heal. Even if neither one will admit it.
I LOVED his story! This is by far Nicole’s best book to date. The writing has great flow, spot on banter, a storyline that is engaging and characters that seep into your heart. If you haven’t ever picked up her books...umm, trust me, you need to.... and Unbreakable is just the book to start off with! 5 Stars.
**WARNING: this ends in a cliffhanger, but these characters deserved a second book. Can’t wait for Unbroken!!
Omg!! I need the next book! Lol. This one definitely leaves you on a cliffhanger so beware but I totally understand why!!! I have just been attached to these characters for so long now and been wanting to see them get together. And waiting is difficult lol! This story sucks you in from beginning to end! I was immediately drawn in to Michael. I wanted to know what had happened to him from the last time we had seen him. He left in the last Monroe book and we really didn't know why. I was excited to get to know him better and what was going on with him. Dani has not had things easy. She tries to put on her tough shell because she doesn't want to get hurt and as soon as she starts to lower it something happens and she gets hurt again/closes right back up. Michael has had a thing for Dani throughout pretty much all the Monroe books but she has never seen him in a romantic way really, until he kissed her under the mistletoe in the last book. Then he disappeared. This story is really well written and we get the beginning of Dani and Michael and get to see them learn more about each other. Having read the previous books, I was invested in all the characters from the prior books. I would recommend reading them because they are so good. They are addicting. Everything you need to know for this story is in this book but you have a lot of backstory that you would have missed. Just a better understanding of all the characters that you gain by having read the previous books. This was just a fantastic read and blew through it because I couldn't put it down and I can't wait for the next one! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
First and foremost I must say. I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!
Oh, I know realistically it is needed in some books (even this one) to move a story and its characters along. That doesn't mean I have to like it very much.
Oh the serious side. I enjoyed this book very much. I found the characters very likable and easy to relate to. There were times when I wanted to smack Michael for his way of thinking, but I try to remember what it was like to be that again again (sigh......).
******A few spoilers here don't read from here if you don't want to know a few basic things******
I really like how Nicole addressed this issue of Michael's addiction and his insistence that he wan't an "addict." This is very typical behavior of young adults struggling with substance abuse. You begin to see Michael mature and understand what it means to be an addicts as the book continues on. I am excited to see how he continues to progress with this issue in the next book.
Dani on the other hand also has some serious addiction type of issues with sexual relationships. This is an issue I am not sure Nicole was meaning to bring forward, but becomes obvious to me during the book. I really enjoyed the character, but I saw very little growth of her as a person during this time. I hope we see more growth from her during the next book.
Overall, this book was amazing. I would totally recommend this book and other Nicole Dykes books in the furture.
Oh......and just so everyone knows. You DO NOT need to have read the others books in this series to understand this book. I have not read any in this particular series and still enjoyed it very much.
Michael Monroe is living with demons that he is desperately trying to overcome. Dani, is a girl with here own baggage trying to help Michael somewhat put his life together.
Michale has more secrets than the FBI and he’s working towards keeping them that way while he puts himself back together. The problem with that is unless you really face the monsters that haunt you you can never truly be free to move on.
This story has such a realism to it that’s what really drew me to it. It’s current, and realistic. It deals with issues that many people young and old face today. It even touches on a taboo subject in a way we normally don’t hear much about.
In this story you get angst, drama, a few smiles, heat, and most of all hope. It evokes a tornado of emotions you will get swept up in. This is not your fairy tale book. Rather you may clutch your heart and shed a few tears...and understand!
This is my first read by this author. I just found out this book is actually part of a series. However, it can totally be read as a stand-alone. That’s how I read this book. You can be assured I will be reading the rest of this series. There is a sequel to this story coming out. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. The issue I have is do I read the other books first or wait to see when the next book comes out? I don’t do spoilers that’s what blurbs are for. I don’t think it’s fair to the author to reveal to much. What I will say is that if you’re ready for a really good true to life story, read this book!
So I'm new to the Monroe Family, only having met some of the characters while reading Mischief. While this is #8 in the Monroe series, it's not necessary to read the other books in the series prior. Nicole Dykes does a great job of informing the reader of who the other characters are without bombarding you with unnecessary information so that you can focus on the main characters this book is about - Michael and Dani. I feel like I came into this book with a clean slate for Dani because it's my understanding that she may not be the most liked character from the Monroe series. I personally liked her character in this book. She was strong, compassionate, and went after what she wanted- even if it was her best friend's younger brother. Sometimes it was hard for me to imagine Michael only being nineteen. His character seemed much, much older at times, but still had some immature ways about him too. There were times that he was overly cocky and arrogant, but I still wanted more of him! I like how their story wasn't rushed or made into some kind of insta-love, which would not have done justice to these characters. I look forward to reading more on Michael and Dani along with the rest of the Monroes and Adamsons!
I have loved Michael since book one and seeing him grow and his struggles was a journey and seeing him how he was in this book was emotional. Even though this book is a stand-alone I would definitely recommend reading the others in the series, just because why not lol!
Dani was someone I want sure of in the previous books, wasn’t sure of her character and who she was but I absoloutely loved her in this series and it was totally the authors writing and portrayal of Dani that made me switch. And that’s usually a hard thing for me to do when I decide I don’t really like a character.
Their relationship in this book grew, and it was amazing to watch. It was slightly darker than previous books but that along with the way the book ended was definitely necessary to the characters and the story line.
It was an amazing book and the authors best work yet. I always find myself saying that with Nicole but it’s only because she gets better and better and her characters progress so flawlessly.
Absoloute well deserved 5 stars and I cannot wait for the next one!
I loved this book! I have not read the others, but now I need to go back, because I need to find out about the back stories of the other characters.
Michael has had a crap deal at life, losing his parents, an accident that leads to his family forcing him into rehab, and other secrets that no one knows. He disappears for two years, and then comes back and wants to learn to race. He forces people close to his family, including Dani, to hide that he’s back until he’s ready for his family to know.
Dani has been left in the wake of Micheal leaving, along with his family. When she’s asked to babysit him, she feels terribly lying to those closest to her. She’s always wondered what if after Micheal kissed her right before he runs away, and when she sees grown up Michael, all the attraction comes back.
This story is not a happy ever after story, at least not in this book, and I’m ok with that. Life doesn’t always have a happy ending, and Micheal and Dani’s stories are not over yet. I can’t wait to read the next book, and I’d definitely recommend this book.
So I have to say that I have been waiting for Michael Monroe’s book since probably book 3.. something about Michael just got to me. He started the series as just a little boy that loved reading and spelling bees and now he is - well as the Monroe’s put it- an asshole. Every Monroe man has been completely honest, they are assholes but love takes every single one of them down and Michael is no different.
Dani, I have felt a kinship towards Dani since she first appeared as Cassie’s best friend. Something was so real about her. Now she’s all grown up, kicking asses and taking names just like my other favorites character.
This book will give you an insight into michaels life that will crush your soul and make your heart bleed but then turn around and make it all better.
That ending though... that shit was a curve and a half because dammit I need Michael and Dani to be okay!!! Can’t wait for the next book!!!
Michael is lost. Running away from his family seemed the only option but he has decided to work his way back to his family. He enlists Shriller’s help to get his racing skills back up to speed and on a team. This brings Jax and then Dani into the mix since Shriller hesitates to trust Michael. Dani needs a job and Shriller knows she won’t take any of Michael’s crap, so he hires her to babysit. Of course, there was that one kiss at Christmas so how will this job really work now that Michael is all grown up? Michael has a lot he needs to deal with and he finally starts to talk about impactful things from his formative years. He only tells Dani so is this enough for him to truly work on liking himself and allow himself to truly live. A true look at what it means to grow up and face the chaos that happens every day. My one frustration, Michael’s journey isn’t done. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Well, I know there were many books on the Monroe family before Unbreakable but this was the first book I have read from the series. I totally went into this book blind, I didn't have a hard time reading it as a standalone because of how the write connects all the character together from the past books.
That said, I LOVED this story. Now be prepared because there is a lot of drama and heartbreak that goes into Micheal and Dani's story from past and present. When she was hired to basically keep him out of trouble Dani never thought falling in love with her best friends brother was viable. Dani became Micheal's emotional need for survival, leaving her heart vulnerable.
Now people, there is a major cliff hanger at the end of this book, so please be sure to have Unbroken handy in order to finish Dani and Micheals's story. You are going to LOVE the Monroe family and everything they stand for. Awesome writing Nicole Dykes.
