Mia Grant, a one-time pop star, still bears emotional scars caused by a stalker who terrorized her for years—a person she inadvertently welcomed into her inner circle. She has come a long way in learning to manage the crippling fear and anxiety his savage attack left her with, and she books into River’s Sigh B & B to begin the grueling task of what she hopes will be the final step in her recovery. Determined to reclaim her old independence and sense of adventure and possibility, she vows to never let anyone get close enough to fool or injure her again.
The disfiguring scars on Gray Robertson’s body are nothing compared to those marring his damaged heart and psyche. A loner by nature, the brutal murder of his young wife and son made him a hermit. He lives off-grid in the wilderness of northern Canada with only his dog for company, finding isolation far easier to survive than loving people and having them torn away.
When his closest neighbor, Jo at River’s Sigh B & B, ropes him into giving self-defense lessons to some washed up musician, Gray figures it’s a safe way to make a bit of cash to see him through winter.
As Mia and Gray get to know each other, neither are prepared for the tumultuous, conflicting emotions that leave them reeling. In him, a convoluted mix of desire, protectiveness, and misplaced fury. In her, a complex stew of appreciation, longing, and apprehension.
Then a foolish decision puts Mia's life in peril and forces questions she and Gray are both scared to answer. Can love heal old wounds, or are they too damaged to risk further hurt?
Ev Bishop is an award-winning, USA Today bestselling author, who believes in the power of fiction to transform lives, knowing we both lose ourselves—and find ourselves!—in good stories.
Best known for her small-town contemporary romance series, River’s Sigh B & B, readers describe her books as “full of humor, love and wisdom,” set in places “where breathtaking scenery and the magic of love are the best medicine for the soul.”
In addition to writing novels—her favorite length of story because she always has so much she wants to fit in!—Ev was a columnist with the Terrace Standard for almost twenty years and is a prolific scribbler of . . . other things. Her articles, essays, short stories, and poems appear in a variety of publications, and she also writes under the pen name Toni Sheridan.
When Ev’s nose isn’t in a book or her fingers aren’t on her keyboard, you’ll find her with her family and dogs or playing outside, usually at the lake or in the middle of a forest somewhere.
She loves any and all garden-related talk and work, cooking (and eating!), and making all sorts of random things—especially out of upcycled or reclaimed items.

She needed an escape, a place of solitude to heal from the trauma has haunted her for years. Mia needs to take charge of her life and create one she can own. A former popstar, the fame and the spotlight brought a monster into her inner circle and she paid dearly. Now it’s time to let go of the anxiety and the constant fear. What better place to do that than a secluded resort where she can be herself, not the image people have of her?
Gray’s heart was scarred years before and his response to that devastation was to become a hermit, alone in the cabin he built, living off the grid, with only his dog and the River’s Sigh B&B as a neighbor. Reluctantly he agrees to teach self-defense to a woman in need. Little did he know, his heart would go down for the count in the company of another damaged soul.
Welcome back to the River’s Sigh B&B where breathtaking scenery and the magic of love are the best medicine for the soul! REELING by Ev Bishop could be my favorite in the series so far! Looking for humorous moments? Want to witness two people fall under the magic of making a connection with another? There will be arguments, pain and denial, but through it all, two people will find healing, hopefully taking a chance on love!
Ev Bishop has pulled out all of the stops at River’s Sigh, as Jo plays Cupid to two people so badly damaged, it appears to be Mission Impossible! Mountain man Gray definitely has his moments, like an old curmudgeon, but underneath his unkempt beard lies a hero with a heart just waiting to be mended! Mia’s damage was horrendous, all because she became an idol and a magnet for evil.
I loved the slow transformation these two made and I have to admit, I was barely hanging on, waiting for “that aha moment!” Another fabulous romance in a magical setting from Ev Bishop!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Ev Bishop!

My anticipation for Reeling, the next book in the River’s Sigh B&B series was not met with disappointment! This is a story about two people, deeply wounded by very different horrific experiences, and the decisions they have made in an attempt to go forward in their lives. The paths of these two characters, Mia and Gray, cross at the idyllic, remote River’s Sigh B&B. Ev Bishop is never afraid to build her stories around anguish, fear and loss. Her characters deal with some of life’s most challenging circumstances. As you enter into the experience of Mia and Gray, you get a window into their thought lives and you always feel as if you are in the scene, due to the realistic conversations between them. The big questions for this kind of a story line are, “Are two people suffering from PTSD toxic together?” and “Can love really heal woundedness?” Ev Bishop has a lovely way of exploring these tough issues, with just enough added humour to keep you wanting to read more. I really enjoyed this book and my return visit to River’s Sigh!
Mia Grant and Gray Robertson have a great deal in common they are both been scared by horrible pasted events. Mia is still recovering from a stalker's brutal assault and Gray has not recovered from the murdering of his wife and son. Determined to restore her former confidence Mia books herself into the River’s Sigh B & B. While there Mia hopes to renew her feeling of independence and her determination never to let anyone get close enough to hurt her again. Gray, on the other hand, is determined to be alone to wallow in his grief but he is still willing to earn a little money by teaching self-defense to Mia. Ms, Bishop has thrown together two very damaged individuals very much in need of consolation and an HEA. Can they find love and happiness with each other? Reeling is an interesting and absorbing novel that is definitely worth reading.
I received this advanced copy from the author and I am freely posting this fair and balanced review.
Reeling had me at "this dude lives off the grid in a cabin." But then I discovered that Grey is totally ripped and makes his own bread. I mean, sexy and competent--what's not to love? And honourable. And only a little surly... think grouchy Winnie the Pooh with hard abs. Mia is lovely, too: quirky, sweet, wounded, funny, real--and brave enough to work on overcoming her fear. So I was (begrudgingly) willing to let her steal away Gray right from under my nose.
I loved the characters, the love story, the redemption, the gorgeous wild and bewitching setting, and Wolf--because dogs are awesome!
This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend the whole beautiful cozy River's Sigh B&B series. This one is probably my favourite so far. Delicious!
Ev Bishop's Reeling blew me away. She depicts such broken characters in a way that makes me not able to lay the book down until I have finished it. The story is not depressing because the characters are always growing, learning to deal with their lives, and growing into love. I really want to book a vacation at River's Sigh B & B. This amazing place is an important part of the plot. I highly recommend this book - but do not start to read it late unless you do not plan to sleep! Wonderful story, great characters.
Wow! Such a good powerful story dealing with heavy topics yet still making the book fun and romantic. Gray and Mia are too shattered souls trying to navigate the world after violence and loss in both their lives. While you think one has it more together than the other you soon realize they both need each other to love and heal. What a great book and story! I loved it and I know a lot of people can probably relate to what these two are going through. A little heavier topic than the rest of the series but fits perfectly and is a good fast read.
This series just keeps getting better! Reeling is heart-wrenching story that is brilliantly written and meticulously crafted, with a plot far deeper than a commonplace romance. Mia and Gray are fabulously deep, intricate characters who have barely survived the tragedies life has hurled at them. While attempting to escape into the wilderness isolation of Northern British Columbia, circumstances throw them together. They finally figure out that the jagged edges of their broken lives complement each other perfectly.
Every time I read one of this author's River's Sigh B & B novels, I want to escape to the this beautiful wilderness place and meet these people who are finding themselves and each other. This one is no exception. Mia Grant is a one-time pop star in hiding, one would think from fans or paparazzi, but hers is more internal than the obvious possible threats.
Gray Robertson has been running from his own ghosts of the past. He has physical injuries to contend with, but those in his mind are more damaging than anything physical he could experience. That's why he has his own off-the-grid home nestled on a parcel of land connected with River's Sigh's acreage.
When a chance meeting between these two broken spirits causes sparks to fly, and not all good ones, it disrupts not only their despairing existences, but they each find something that opens a window to hope. The problem is that neither of them is sure they want to take that first step to healing. It takes a major event to make either of them even consider crossing that bridge. And it might just be too late.
Nothing compares to the sweet mishaps that bring this author's characters together. It's never easy from either point of view, and when she turns on the heat and a touch of steam, there is little anyone can do to stop the events that follow. Her characters are loveable in their brokenness and the situations that bring them to their end are occasions that can only happen in this little mountain corner of the author's world. These stories draw the reader in and help us become a part of this isolated community, leaving us to wish we didn't have to close the book. Another wonderful romance that brings us home to River's Sigh. Can't wait for our next visit.
Reeling is the sixth book in the River's Sigh B & B series but it also stands alone just fine. The whole series is full of wonderful stories, however, and I highly recommend all of them.
The blurb does an excellent job of describing what the book is all about so I'm going to describe how it made me feel while reading it. Mia and Gray have horrible things in their past and reading about them made me cry for what they'd been through. These things greatly impacted how they interacted with each other and also led to the main conflict that they had to overcome.
Mia was the first to come around and I wanted to shake Gray and tell him to wake up and live instead of hiding away. He had to figure things out on his own though and once he did I cried big fat happy tears for them.
Ev Bishop's writing brings River's Sigh to life; it feels like a real place to me, one that I'd love to visit and meet all of the wonderful characters from her stories. For me, Reeling is the best kind of book – one that makes me feel things deeply, cry sad and happy tears, and also laugh a bit – I love Gray's dog, Wolf!
I hope Ev Bishop continues to write stories in this beautiful world she's created. One character in particular still needs a book. 😊
You know those books that stay with you? this is one of those books. I've previously read 2 other Rivers Sigh series books and this one is just glorious.
A gorgeous read from start to finish, in such a short time you get to know and love Mia and Gray. Its great to see Sam also has a kindred spirit in Mia. Ev Bishop is genius in how she portrays her characters so well without the boring finite detail but with a style that lets you see these people in your mind - they almost become real. The emotion in the story, the humour, the gentle support and the not-so gentle approach thanks to Sam, it's all handled with such sensitivity and care and love. That is the overall emotion in this book. LOVE. Wanted love, lost love, new love, love of life.....
The story plot is 2 tortured souls find peace in each other mixed with a lot of laughs, quick quips and set in stunning scenery. I will now always look out for a "mermaid" in a lake and have a fond second to think what if their story was real.... Warning! Have tissues for Chapter 12.
I absolutely loved this book because these characters wrapped themselves around my heart with overwhelming empathy for them and because I could personally identify with their fears and insecurities. As someone who suffers from panic attacks, I can attest to this authors perfect portrayal of the bone chilling fear that stops you in your tracks, quickens your breath and makes you want to hide away from everyone and everything. Grey and Mia might be awkward around each other, but they both recognize the crippling insecurity and vulnerability each of them feels and their common ground unites them in a way that helps them take steps which will heal them both. This is a heart warming study of the human heart that is both mesmerizing and engaging with a positive message that will resonate with everyone who reads it. I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
This is yet another great story by EV Bishop. I loved the setting and the characters and the dog. This was a great story about a man who had experienced the loss of his family and now wanted to be alone. The main character was a woman who had experienced a horrific event in her life and had to spend some time away from stardom and people. The two people meet each other and help each other heal from their emotional wounds. I loved the descriptions of the area and the landscape. I would love to live in a place like Gray lived in. And I’d have a dog like Wolf too!
You want a great read? You”ll find yourself “ Reeling “ for sure! Mia and Grey - are as different as night and day. I love how Ev puts herself into her Characters. They are so life like, that you feel like you are strolling through the pages. Mia and Grey are so unique . Both broken souls by their separate experiences, but united as well. What a tale. When you think you know how things are going, you”ll be surprised. That’s all I’m saying. I love Ev’s Zany story telling. Join the fun and read. You won’t be disappointed!
I have loved reading this series of stories all set at the River's Sigh B & B. The characters and storylines are interesting and have different dynamics within each couple's relationship. The crossover characters throughout this series feels like you are getting to know everyone as friends. I'm going to be disappointed to get to the end of the series. Highly recommended!!
I think of all the River's Sigh B & B stories, Gray & Mia's is my favorite. Maybe it's the depths from which they have to travel to find themselves, making what had been broken whole again. Perhaps it's the peace, acceptance and kindness that is so abundant in this unique setting that leads to understanding. Or the concept of learning to not become a victim of your circumstances. There is much to recommend this feel good story.
Every book in the series thus far has been excellent. The characters are unique, intelligent with good common sense. Every book is totally different yet tied together by Rivers Sigh and some recurring characters. The stories are well paced. Ms Bishop has created a wonderful location that I would love to visit.
Two very damaged people finding the courage to heal each other and make a new life together. I laughed and I cried! So much of the isolation and life of self-sufficient lifestyle appeals to me at times, but, I need people and music in my life, too! I could relate to so many of their feelings and I'm thankful that I never had to endure the trauma that they did.
Enjoyed the story of Mia and how she fell in love and overcame her fears and Gray did the same slowly healing from the horror of losing his wife and child.
I couldn't put down this heart wrenching but so brilliantly written story! Ev Bishop blew me away totally! So powerful and emotional! Two shattered in their past's tragedies souls, Mia and Gray, thrown together by fate and making tiny steps of trust and healing in this picturesque setting of wilderness and isolation of River's Sigh B&B. I really need a vacation there for myself even though it's a fiction, or is it? There should be a place like this somewhere, right? Sighing.. I absolutely loved this book!
