A stolen kiss. A forced marriage. Can a Scottish chief and English lady learn to love each other?
The Warrior After two rejected proposals, Graeme de Sowlis has no interest in marriage. The Queen Gillian Bowman is so eager to please her father, she’s agreed to marry the ancient Earl of Covington to save the family manor. Though she has every intention of doing just that, curiosity drives her into the arms of a handsome Scottish chief. When they’re caught and forced to marry, she’s horrified. The Earl of Covington has the ability to ruin her family, and her new husband seems reluctant to open up to her outside of the bedroom. Can love bloom from such humble beginnings?

The Warrior's Queen by Cecelia Mecca is book Six in the Border series. This is the story of Graeme de Sowlis and Gillian Bowman. I have read the previous books (and loved them!) but feel you can make this a standalone book.
Graeme has attempted to ask two women to marry him but each time it was turned down. So he is now concentrating on getting peace between the England and the Scottish. When invited to the May Day celebration at Kenshire Castle in England he meets Gillian.
Gillian father is heavily in debt and plans to marry her to the very rich and elderly Earl of Covington. When Gillian happens to see Graeme and a serving girl in the gardens taking their pleasure it made her curious since she has not even been kissed.
Later when they meet eye to eye it leads to a headed kiss between them but they are caught. This leads Graeme to step forward to offer her marriage.
But will Graeme release his heart from the tight hold he has on it after being turned down before?
I am a really big fan of Ms. Mecca writing...her stories take you right into the book.
Loved it!

Graeme De Sowlis and His Lady Gillian finally get there HEA .
It’s been eagerly awaited, and it’s worth the wait .
It’s a perfect addition to this wonderful series, it’s smooth and beautifully written, with both tense and tender moments.
I really feel for Graeme, always have , he’s had such bad luck with women , I’ve wanted him to be happy so long .
Finally he’s getting some attention , it’s not surprising that the doubts he feels emerging are pushing him in so many directions, and Gillian has not had it easy either , these two really were matched well by Cecilia, their emotions were so dense I felt them , I was anxious for them both as they struggled through .
I’m so happy that I’ve finally read this one , and can’t wait to see more from this borderland group, it really is an exceptional series.
I received an advanced copy of this book and chose to submit a review

The story was over too fast but enjoyed every word.

Cecelia Mecca wrote another great book in her series. I would've happily read more chapters! We not only get Graeme & Gillians story but we get glimpses into some characters from previous books. I can't wait to find out who will be next. But no matter who's it will be, it will be too long of a wait.
Her men are braw and the women are fiesty. Just the way we like them!

Book 6 in the Borderland series and boy what a fabulous story this is, for those who have read the series before we catch up with a few characters and make some new friends. Graeme De Sowlis and Gillian Bowman are caught in a promiscuous state and are set to marry, we follow them as they embark on married life and through the trials of getting to know each other.

I received a copy and I voluntarily leave my own honest opinion

The Warrior's Queen is the 6th book in the Border series by Cecelia Mecca. Although there is mention of characters from the other books in this series you can still easily read this as a standalone book. Personally, I am glad that I had read the previous books because it was lovely to catch up with how the other couples/characters have been getting on.

Graeme de Sowlis is a Scottish clan chief. He isn't interested in marriage after wanting to marry two women who ended up choosing to marry somebody else! He puts all his focus into keeping the peace between the English and Scottish living either side of the border. Recently there has been a lot of raids performed by the English, including one where a woman died. Graeme is determined to put a stop to them but has to find a way to do it where he doesn't end up breaking the fragile truce between the countries.

Gillian Bowman, an English woman, is being forced into a marriage by her father who needs her to marry in order to gain the money he needs to pay off his debts and keep the family estate. He doesn't want to use her as such but he has no choice. Gillian being a dutiful daughter will go along with his plan but isn't at all happy about it.

Graeme meets Gillian when he attends a May Day celebration at Kenshire Castle in England where Gillian lives. Her first sight of him is a shock because she catches him pleasuring a woman in the gardens. She can't look away, and he catches her watching. She can't keep what she saw out of her mind and while walking in the garden, later on, remembering what happened, she meets Graeme. This time on his own. There is an instant attraction between them and it isn't long until they are sharing a passionate kiss. Unfortunately, they are caught and Graeme being a gentleman offers to marry her. Gillian's father is fuming because his plans to marry her off to the old yet rich Earl have fallen by the wayside. Gillian although not wanting to marry anybody without being in love, at least acknowledges that she will be much happier with Graeme so doesn't resist his proposal at all.

What follows is the trials and tribulations the couple face in their new marriage. They definitely have a healthy lust for each other but Gillian wants more, could she find love with her husband? What of the truce between the Scottish and the English, can it be kept when it seems some are determined to bring the truce down? What of her father and the family home, will he end up losing it and if so, how will he cope with the loss?

There was definitely a lot going on with this story and every part of it was both exciting and in parts worrying. There was also a time when I just wanted to jump into the book and knock Gillian and Graeme's heads together to knock sense into them. They have such strong feelings for each other but won't even admit it to themselves let alone to each other. Do they get their happy ever after, will peace reign along the borders? You will have to read the book to find out. I promise you won't be disappointed. I enjoyed every moment of this story as I have every book in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers' copy of this book.

WOW! I LOVED IT! I’ve been waiting for Graeme’s story almost as long as he has lol. Things never go as planned for poor Graeme the women he’s wanted have spurned him and fallen in love with other men, it hasn’t done his heart and confidence any good. For him it’s better to keep feelings of the heart far away it only brings heartache. Focusing on being the best chief for his clan is his main focus. But of course a detour to Kenshire Castle and a bewitching young woman has him stealing a kiss that changes the course of his life.

Gillian Bowman is ever the dutiful daughter agreeing to marry a man old enough to be her father and then some just to save the family from ruin. As with any young woman sacrificing her self to a loveless marriage to a horrid old man what’s the harm in stealing a kiss from a handsome brawny Scottish Warrior? Nothing right?! Unless you’re caught and are forced to marry.
What ensues is an emotional story of trust and letting go of past hurts and find that love heals all and is worth fighting for. I so loved Graeme such a gentleman with his bride and a ferocious warrior I so enjoyed seeing the transformation as he fell in love with Gillian, who I’m glad married Graeme. These two had a rocky start and some hurdles to overcome before they truly let their guards down.
Once again Cecelia has written a WINNER! This was my favourite of all the Border Series. It was exquisite and breathtaking with detail and wonderfully descriptive. Full of intrigue and fraught with emotions and of course sizzling chemistry, I lived in the pages of this story and with Graeme and Gillian. This is definitely going to be on my keeper shelf to visit again and again.
I highly recommend this to all who love a good Scottish romance you will not be disappointed!
I received a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

Cecelia Mecca continues to set the bar high on historical romance with her vivid character and historical descriptions. Be still my heart. Readers of this series have been waiting for the story of Graeme de Sowlis, who in previous stories, has been disappointed by two ladies who chose other men. With his confidence level low, he is determined not to fall in love and get hurt again. He has focused on being a worthy laid for his clan and promoting peace in the borders between Scotland and England. While visiting Kenshire Castle in England for the May Day celebration, he spies Gillian Bowman, who has been made Queen of the day. One thing leads to another and he is caught kissing Gillian in an unexpected encounter. Being the honorable person he is, he is determined to marry her. A handsome Scottish warrior and a beautiful young woman? What could be so bad?
Gillian has agreed to marry the Earl of Covington, a rich elderly man, to please her father and help save their home. When she is caught with Graeme, she is mortified but has no choice but to marry him. This is were the story begins to tug at your heart.
Can Graeme let go of past hurts and give his heart to Gillian? Can she trust him to be honest and help with her family while not breaking her heart? There were so many emotions and wonderful secondary characters that played important parts in this tale. I loved watching the story unfold as Graeme fought to stay distant from Gillian and not fall in love with her. They were so right for each other and passionate in their desires.
With each story I have read in this series, I think it is the best one. But I loved this story and could not put it down. Yes I stayed up until 3:00 in the morning! This entire series is on my to be read again shelf and I cannot wait for the next installment!!

I really enjoyed this book.
This is part of a series and I would say that although each book is devoted to a different couple, there are secondary characters that appear in the story that contribute to the storyline that have had their story in previous books in the series.

Graeme de Sowlis and Gillian Bowman.
Graeme has had disappointment in marriage prospects and Gilliam is to be betrothed to an elderly man of financial benefit to her family.
Graeme was sweet and loyal but reluctant to make himself vulnerable and Gillian has had a reserved upbrnging always behaving to please her father.
I have marked it an arranged marriage because events lead them to get married as strangers.

It is a good story.
There is a small amount of ex drama.
At the start it looks as though Graeme will be intimate with another woman but there is little detail ( I don't want to spoil anything so I won't explain) and at that time he hasn't met Gillian. I don't like it when the Hero has met the heroine or is enamoured with her but then is involved with another woman but that doesn't happen here.
It does reflect the attitude of men and women of the time, mistresses and dalliances but it is a small scene and not as it seems.

I would like to thank the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

Gillian is being forced to marry an old Earl in order to save her family. Graeme has been rejected by two different women and has sworn of women. They meet at a May Day celebration amongst mounting tensions on the border and a stolen kiss changes both their lives.

I love how Mecca continues to add new ideas to this series and makes it more and more interesting. The mounting difficulties on the border have added anticipation to this series and I can’t wait to see how it ends.

I loved seeing old characters and especially Court from the borders series novella in The Ladies of the Stone anthology. I also loved the Gallic words and poems referenced.

This series just keeps getting better, and I am SO hooked on it! Graeme and Gillian's story was everything I like in a Scottish romance. I loved how respectful Graeme was of Gillian despite their circumstances. This felt a bit like an old-fashioned romance, but with some steamy stuff as an added bonus, and I loved every single page of it!

I'm already excited for the next story in the Border Series. It can't come out soon enough!

*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

The Warrior’s Queen is a smash hit! Strong characters take you with them through their heart wrenching, edge of your seat, heart warming journey of war, peace, love, and loss. I didn’t want it to end. I recommend every book in the Border Series. Cecelia set a high bar with her first book, with each book better than the last. Can’t wait for the next one!

The Warrior’s Queen by Cecelia Mecca gives you the true feeling of what it must have been like back in 1273 on the border of Scotland and England. She has a true talent for writing such wonderful characters, original stories and her descriptions are so clear you can easily picture them in your mind. The Warrior’s Queen is book 6 in the Border Series but can be read as a standalone. I am alway in awe when reading one of Cecelia’s book and this one does not disappoint. Trust me when I say that when you read the first few pages, you will be hooked until the very last page. This story has an arranged marriage, unlucky in love, lies, deception, raids, scandal, kindest, true friendships, destitute, forced marriage, sister love, 2 tuned down marriage proposals, confusion, misunderstandings but does it find love? You will have to read this amazing book to find out. I highly recommend this book! I know you will love it as much as I did!!

Constantly trying to keep peace on the border and following The Day of Truce, having his proposals turned down twice, Laird Graeme de Sowlis has his hand full until he sets eyes on Lady Gillian Bowman.

What a beautiful story

5 stars, would give more if I could. This book was perfect in every way for me. The only thing wrong was it didn’t last longer. I could have read about this H/h for all the future years. I slid into this story from beginning and it just kept getting better. It was full of humor, adventure, romance, passion, and wonderful tasteful steam. I just couldn’t put it down and I really mean that. While reading in bed I just wanted to read one more chapter and did so till early morning. I was completely into their world. I felt so good and peaceful and forgot all my problems. It left me with such a warm feeling. I do so recommend this book, as I do all author’s books. So much better if read in order, because of so many beloved reoccurring people. One complaint, this author can’t write fast enough for my addiction. Can’t wait for next book.

Border Chief weds English Queen? Oh YES!

Chief of Clan Scott, Graeme de Sowlis, gets himself caught in a precarious situation and ends up marrying his Mayday Queen from the English side of the border and what a good thing he did (get caught that is!) The best thing to happen to Graeme is Lady Gillian of Lyndwood because his previous choices were ALL WRONG for him! Leave it to a man to stumble into something good for him haha! It takes them both longer than it should to open up to each other which leads to previous time wasted, intimately, which ooh is a lovely journey any women would gladly take with Lord Graeme! Lady Gillian is lucky Lord Graeme is so honorable and trustworthy and unknowingly already deeply in love with her when she forces him into an intimate timeout. I can't wait to read more of The Border Lord series!!!

This is the sixth book in the Border Series. As the other five books, it can be read without having read the others but I go much more out of the story after having read the other ones. Nice, well written story about Graeme and Gillian who come from each side of the border in a very volatile time. I love the way Cecelia makes her main female character strong and capable even in a traditional romance novel such as this. Definitely worth a read.

The Warrior's Queen

I have read this series from book one and fell in love with it. This book paired Greame and Gillian as the two lovers.
Gill , English, betrothed to an old man, did not want her wedding to come. Visiting her friend, she meets the man to be her husband, pleasuring a serving girl in the garden. Though she was turning to leave, he looked up and saw her. From then on there date was sealed.

Intense!

As always, Cecelia Mecca has a engaging tale that brings out the uncertainties of human emotions so well. I found the chemistry between Graeme and Gillian a bit lacking from that of the preceding book, but again, their circumstances were completely different and here Graeme and Gillian found their mutual trust and love gradually, through ups and downs. And as always, I love the secondary characters of her stories and look forward to new stories with them.

Love this book! I love the series and The Warrior's Queen did not disappoint. I so desperately wanted Graeme to find his lady love and HEA and that it was with Gillian was perfect. I enjoy the way the families and their friends are intermingled. Looking forward to Reid and Allie's story.

Beach or relaxation read

The series continues with light entertaining stories. They are the same outline plot and some story lines seem to be started then dropped. In this one, what was the point of the helmed English rider that met Gillian and her guard refusing to give his name and then just rode on?

The Warriors Queen(Book 6)

Graeme de Sowlis, clan chief, is sent a note to hurry. Gillian Bowman was also given the same note. On May DayGraeme meets the May Queen. They kiss but apparently everyone in the castle was given the same note because they catch them in a ruinous hold. Of course Graeme is a gentleman and asks Gillian to marry him. Does she? Do they get along?

Another 3 stars

It has potential but it was full of unnecessary filler that I don’t just get it why it was there. I also wish the main characters had a bit more romantic chemistry between them but the bond was just not there and lack of communication between them was not helping either.

I enjoyed the story of Graeme’s and Gillian’s developing relationship. There are lots of misunderstandings and problems to overcome despite their burgeoning love for one another. These stories stitch a colourful tapestry of life in the Borderlands. I like how carefully woven together the characters and events are to one another.
