Taura Dancer has been pushed to her limits by alien torturers known as the Khagrish and is ready to die when suddenly the lab where she’s held as a prisoner is taken down by an armed force of soldiers.
The man who rescues her from a burning cell block is Jadrian of the Badari, a genetically engineered alien warrior with as many reasons to hate the Khagrish as Taura has. This set of shared past experiences and the circumstances of her rescue create an unusual bond between them.
Safe in the hidden base where Jadrian and his pack take her, Taura struggles to regain her lost memories and overcome constant flashbacks during which she lashes out at all who come near. Only Jadrian can recall her from the abyss of her visions and hallucinations.
As the war against the Khagrish continues, it becomes increasingly critical to find out who she really is and how she can help in the fight. Until she can control her terrors and trust her own impulses, Taura’s too afraid to pursue the promise of happiness a life with Jadrian as her mate might offer.
When he’s captured by the dreaded enemy, will she step forward to help save him, or will she remain a prisoner of her past?
This is the third book in a new scifi romance series and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels!
USA Today Best Selling Science Fiction & Paranormal Romance author.
Veronica Scott grew up in a house with a library as its heart. Dad loved science fiction, Mom loved ancient history and Veronica thought there needed to be more romance in everything. When she ran out of books to read, she started writing her own stories.

Elvis Presley’s best friend once serenaded Veronica on a local TV telethon…now that could be a novel…
Taura does not remember her past. She only remembers the torture she received before her rescue by Jadrian. Our band of humans and Badari are still in danger. They are still going out on raids to get supplies and to free captives. There is more interesting world building and back story coming as part of the plot in Jadrian. I really liked both Taura who refused to commit until she could remember and Jadrian who know she is his mate but continues to give her time to recover and remember. Several additional hooks for future directions are part of the story. I look forward to visiting with the Badari Warriors and their human colleagues some time in the future.
The third book in the Sectors New Allies series by Veronica Scott. Taura has undergone some nasty experiments by the Khagrish and is ready to die when the lab is attacked and she is rescued by Jadrian. Her memory is shot and she can only remember her first name. The affects of the experiments causes her to have violent outburst that only Jadrian seems to be able to control.
Another good addition to the series. I have liked them all so far. But the battles continue on. I'm not sure how many books are planned in this series but I hope the bad guys get their due soon.
Another page turner in the Badari Warrior series where the warriors find love while fighting off the evil Karghish scientists who want to re-enslave them. Jadrian is wonderful as a lovelorn warrior holding himself in check while his destined mate recovers from the abuse and trauma inflicted by the Kargish. Taura is a great heroine going from victim to kick@ss over the course of the story.
Bonus points for significant page time for my favorite Badari couple; Aydarr and Jill.
Although the story is named after the hero, it's more about Taura, a human who was captured and tortured then rescued from her prison. I can’t believe the emotions I felt as I followed her on her journey out of darkness. The terror she must have felt as the Khagrish did unspeakable things to her wrenched my heart. But that's not the worst. She can't remember who she is or anything about her past. Can you imagine the fear?
Her rescuer, Jadrian, is the only person she trusts. Though she's taken to a medical facility, it reminds too much of the lab where she was tortured. Will these people do the same? Flashbacks have her lashing out at anyone around her until, for their own safety, she's restrained. That is too much like what the Khagrish did to her. More terror. Only Jadrian can help.
In all of Ms. Scott's books, her characters are well-drawn. Their strengths and their vulnerabilities make those characters believable and sympathetic. Taura may seem like a vulnerable character, but she has strengths she can't remember yet are revealed as she deals with her amnesia and the aftermath of torture. Jadrian is first and foremost a warrior. Fierce, strong. Yet, we get glimpses of his past that enable him to empathize with Taura. The reader sees his own vulnerability. The end is no surprise since it’s science fiction romance. How the author brings Taura and Jadrian to that conclusion tore my heart as I feared for their happiness. This is one powerful story.
Taura wanted an end to the constant torment by the uncaring aliens that performed mentally and physically painful tests on her every day...except for today. For some reason they had left her in her tiny cell today.
It took her awhile to realize the ship was being boarded by different aliens. While the 'new aliens' appeared to be rescuing her, after all the mind games her captors had used, she no longer knew what was real or not. However, when the very tall Jadrian lifted her up and carried her from the ship a bond began to form between them.
However, nothing is easy in the intriguing story. Taura has no memory of her past, only her nightmarish time on the torture ship. So despite the growing love between her and Jadrian, she refuses to become his mate because she has no clue about her past and the type of person she was.
Lots of regressions, difficulties, and anxiety attacks on her part, and great concern on his follows.
Also, the planet that Jadrian lives on is not particularly safe either. But here, they are not alone. Here, the can fight back.
I truly enjoyed this story. I had no idea how it would end until I got there. Veronica Scott never fails to provide a fabulous and unique Sci-Fi Romance.
**MEDIUM SPOILERS** This series is fairly large and has connections, I think, to other series. The books are set in the same universe with different planets and different species. I think this book should be read after the first books in the series. The Badari are a group of enhanced soldiers that have had animal DNA spliced into them. Various experiments have been performed on them over the course of several generations. Jadrian and his pack have fangs and claws. They also can communicate telepathically with each other and can spend a fairly long time underwater. There are no female Badari. The doctors, aliens called Khagrish, have done the experiments are generally sadistic in a way that is reminiscent of Nazi Germany. I really liked the first book of the series (Aydarr), because of the female main character, Jill. The second book (Mateer) was pretty good as well. I was more hesitant about the third book and this one fell another notch for me. Taura was a mental mess when she was rescued by Jadrian as well as others. Understandably, she has PTSD given what she went through. It causes her to have anxiety attacks as well as blackouts during which she is violent. Spoiler... when she regains her memories she immediately wants everyone to understand that she is competent as a warrior. That was not what she did prior to her capture so it was an unrealistic expectation. In addition, she is physically weak and has been since her rescue. She rushes headlong into a situation with little preparation. I would have thought that, given her prior role (no spoiler), that her thinking would be cool and deliberate. In addition, early in the book, she makes a promise to Jadrian about something and then breaks that promise. She apologizes for it, but I thought she should have kept her promise. Finally, late one night after a gathering when she is tired, she decides to go swimming by herself. It was an incredibly foolish thing for her to do, and it ended up with her in need of rescue. At that point, I knocked the book to 3 stars as I really was unimpressed with her. On the other hand, the male main character, Jadrain, is sweet and wonderful. I really liked him. He was supportive of Taura and, to be honest, I was not sure why he was attracted to her given that she was such a mess. However, perhaps the mate bond recognized who she could be rather than how she was directly after capture. The story was split between Jadrian and Taura’s point of view with perhaps a little more from Taura’s. The story happens over a short period of time. I probably will read the next book in the series with some hesitancy. If it is like this one, I may stop the series after that.
Taura’s is the sole human in a facility raided by the Bardari, She has been tortured to the point where she’d rather die than endure anymore, when the beautiful golden eyed man rescues her from the burning building. Something about Jadrian calms Taura, in the midst of a rescue which feels like just another Khagrish mind game.
Safe in the Badari valley, Taura still feels ungrounded. Her memories of who she was before are gone, and she finds herself questioning the motives of everyone around her. She has nightmares and panic attacks, and she puts up quite the fight when feeling cornered. Jadrain’s strong arms and soothing words are more effective than human restrains and drugs.
Taura just wants out of the hospital, and Jadrian gets Meghan (as her doctor) and Aydaar (as alpha) to agree to let her stay with him in a isolated cave. Jadrian shares enough of his own suffering under the Khagrish to let her model her own coping mechanisms after his.
Though there is strong chemistry between them, and Jadrian clearly wants Taura as his mate, something holds her back. The flashes of who she used to be are disturbing enough that she doesn’t want to let Jadrian bind himself to her only for her memories to return and her personality to shift.
When Taura shares a rare pleasant dream with Jadrian, he realizes she has been visited by the Badari Goddess. Jadrian asks Aydarr’s permission to take Taura back to their sacred circle, near the original lab, to appeal directly to the Goddess.
Jadrian rescues a lone human from a lab his team was sent to investigate and shut down. She pulls out his protective instincts when it is clear she feels safe with him. Taura knows her name and little else, but the torture she suffered the hands of her captors. Amnesia, nightmares, and flashbacks make her a danger to herself and others. Jadrian she feels safe. He is able to pull her back to the head and know. Jadrian knows what Taura is going through. When the 7generation Alpha was still in charge and he was a cadet he and there others of his generation were tortured to the point of near death. Jadrian was the only survivor. His link with Aydarr and Mateer, keeping him strong. He wants to help Taura. Taura and Jadrian form a special bond. Jadrian suspects it may be a mate bond. Taura has had some flashes of memory, and what she see has her worried. She refused to consider more than friendship until her memory returns. The goddess.of the Badari has other ideas. Jadrian is determined to wait for as long as it takes.. She may just hold the key to getting a message out to the sectors. Fast paced, a little.steamy. Loved Jadrian and Taura's story.
Definitely not my favorite....thought it would be since I like the whole ‘damaged scared damsel protected and cared for by strong silent type’ theme but the operational flaws and behaviors quickly turned me off. Also, the cyborgs worship a goddess who makes an appearance in this book but “the fact of” a goddess and worshipping cyborgs who are manmade is never adequately explained in any of the books. Taura remembers her past as some kick-ass alpha female but promptly gets captured, goes against protocol & chain of command - basically goes against all her experiences and training consistently...hard to swallow her stupid actions when it would be second nature for her. Almost gave this book a 2. Disappointing.
I'm all caught up in the overarching storyline. Occasionally, the brutality of the villains is a bit much, but each book has its own HEA, so I can overlook it. While the heroine in this book didn't prove as tough as described, she still managed to succeed, and she wasn't overly stupid, which can ruin a book for me. Can't wait to read more about the developing story arch!
An exciting new series with just enough mystery to keep me really interested. This series is different enough in telling its stories that I don't feel like I have read the books before. It has romance, adventure, and a mystery that you want to find the answer to.
Loved the books! I read the first 3 in one day. You are a new author for me. I have put you on my personal must read list. Looking forward to the next book. Thank You for sharing your storys. Leanna
Great story with a experience of PTS. Surprise me of what Jadrian mate was and it also show mean girls problem continues with age. I would love to see them all be lucky to have kids and how the Badari reaction to birth. Can't wait to read the next story.
A secret mission. A rescue. Loved this book. Love the Barack warriors. We learn more about several people in the sanctuary valley. The Kagrish need to be taken down. The Sectors need to search for their missing citizens.
Taura was tortured non-stop by the Kagrish and is now a mess after Jadrian rescued her from her cell. She has had physical training and the medical staff were badly beaten when she had her episodes.
The connection between Jardrain and Taura is awesome. Hope the sectors will help them after the three fastlink operators sent the message with MARL’S help. I kind of agree with the thought he is spooky and unfortunate they have to rely so heavily on him, especially when he won’t leave Jill’s side.
