Together or apart, either way she breaks his heart.

As far as Kat’s concerned, if you have too much goodness in your life it will always turn bad. Except for Brad. Because nothing bad ever happened to Brad until Kat. She’s Brad’s bad. Even if her reckless behavior doesn’t hurt him, the timeline on her life will. It’s why they’re apart. And if she has anything to do with it, they’ll stay that way.

For Brad, life with Kat is hi-definition Technicolor on a crazy beautiful display. Everything else before and after her is just grayscale. Which is why he’s going after her and letting nothing get in his way.

As soon as they catch the guy who is stalking her. And he finds a way to break it off with his current girlfriend.

Denise has been reading since before she could talk. And to this day, escaping into a book is her go-to activity before anything else.

She likes to write about sassy women and semi-flawed alpha-esque men (hard on the outside and just a little soft on the inside.)  Denise’s female characters always have strong friendships, potty mouths, and like to drink—a lot.

Denise is loyal to a fault, a bit too sarcastic, blindingly optimistic, and pretty freakin’ happy with life overall. If she couldn't be a writer, she'd be a singer in a classic rock band. Right after she learned to carry a tune. She has more purses than days in the month, an obsession with colored ink pens, and a slightly unhealthy bracelet habit.

Home is in the Pacific Northwest where she lives with six Siberian Huskies and a husband (BW) who has the patience and tolerance of a saint. And, lest she forget, Denise also lives with too many to count characters inside her head, who will eventually have their stories told.

For Brad, life with Kat is hi-definition, full technicolor on a crazy beautiful display.
Everything else before and after her is just grayscale.
Letting her go was his biggest mistake.

Kat had a hard enough time leaving Brad but staying away is even worse.
She’s the only bad thing that’s ever happened to him.
It’s why they’re apart. If she has anything to do with it, they’ll stay that way.

But, Brad wants her back. And this time nothing is getting in his way.
Just as soon as they catch the guy who is stalking her.
And he finds a way to break it off with his current girlfriend.

I just loved this book. It's more romance than erotica, though it has some steamy bits. The story itself is fantastic, and a little tear jerkerish but honestly, I don't think I've ever laughed so much in a romance. I spat coffee at least three times, so definitely DO NOT EAT OR DRINK while reading. You've been warned.

I love the characters, and I particularly love the bad girl/good guy role reversal that rarely happens in romance novels - although she's not really bad, and he's not all good. Brad just makes me want to hug him, he is so lovely, and while I want to slap Kat at times, I get her process too. It's hard to work towards a long life when you know you won't have one.

The plot was really unique (to me) too. Crime novel meets romance - new to me and I loved it and while the basics of a romance were still there - boy meets girl/fall in love/ break up/ get back together /HEA - the crime solving angle was quite different and made for an engaging story.

Kat’s suffered through and survived cancer not just once, not even twice, but three times now. And the chances of it coming back are almost 100%. Kat’s come to terms with her illness and her decision to avoid pain and heartache by not getting involved in a serious relationship with any guy.
Especially her sexy firefighter ex, Brad.

Brad had found the love of his life when he met Kat, and nothing—not cancer, not his current girlfriend, and not even Kat’s constant rejection—is going to change that. He knows they’re meant to be together. Now he just needs to convince her of that.

When the police and Kat get stumped in a case she’s consulting on, Brad uses this opportunity to get close to and win back the woman he loves…and, you know, help catch a bad guy too while he’s at it.

Problems:

1) It took me a while to figure out that what’s listed as the first chapter is technically a flash-forward to a scene that happens in the middle of the book (and quite a dramatic scene, I should add). This wasn’t made clear when Chapter 2 started, and you can imagine my surprise when the main character went on about her day as if Chapter 1 never happened. Of course, Chapter 1 hadn’t happened yet, I just didn’t know that for sure until halfway through the book.
***Update: After finding and reading my review, the author let me know that she'd noticed the error soon after sending out ARCs and that this would be fixed before release date!***

2) Thanks to all the chemo, Kat has the ability to intuitively sense things through the spasming of her pinkie finger. I’ve personally come to call it her PINKIE POWER. Funny thing, this PINKIE POWER of hers only came into play twice in the whole book. It brought so little to the story that I feel like it could have been taken out altogether. The information Kat learns through this ability could have just as easily been discovered through ordinary detective work. It’s such a random and under-developed part of the story that I almost question if there even is a PINKIE POWER at all or if this is just Kat’s internal way of justifying her own investigative instincts and hunches.

Praises:

1) I was a little concerned when I realized that the major case Kat would be consulting on was the case of the Shower Stealer—basically a guy who breaks into people’s houses, takes a shower, and then leaves the water running in the middle of a drought. The fact that this was the serious case the police department was sparing no expense to solve had me rolling my eyes. FORTUNATLEY, the main character thought much the same and commented on the utter silliness of this case, so clearly this was intentional and made me feel a lot better. ALSO, rest assured that we do get to a much more intense case worthy of the department’s resources.

2) With this being a second-chance novel, I was worried that we wouldn’t get the same opportunity to get to know and fall in love with the love interest. But I shouldn’t have worried because the author does a great job of slowly revealing Brad’s character to us by his actions throughout the book as well as through thoughts in his own POV. Brad was easily my favorite.

3) The author is already setting us up for sequels. With Kat’s two best friends, Remi and Lexie, we can already see the stories that are coming and I’m very curious to see what’s in store for these two ladies.

4) Like Kat said, “Cancer sucks.” And not only that, but it’s a very difficult subject to tackle in a character’s mentality. Especially when trying to keep the mood light and comical. The author really succeeds in finding the balance between the heartbreaking inevitability of Kat’s condition and her ever sarcastic and exuberant personality. This book could be really depressing, and yet I found myself laughing throughout.

Received this ARC, of Love Undecided by Denise Wells, in exchange for my honest review.

About Kat a young ex lawyer and her Ex fiance boyfriend, fireman Brad. Kat's battling cancer and decides she doesn't want to Brad to have to watch her dying and pushes him away. He wants to make sure that doesn't happen. Kat also has a unique ability in "feeling"things and is helping the police and one very hot sexy officer to solve some weird /disturbing crimes.

Found this to be an excellent read and finished within a day of receiving. This resonated with me in that I have family members currently fighting Cancer. While I didn't always agree with how Kat dealt with Brad, I also understood her fears.

Brought out alot of emotions. Was heartfelt, tragic, bittersweet, pretty steamy, sweet and touching, funny at times, loved her crazy best friends Remi and Lexie, who were always there for her.

Would definitely recomnend this book. Can't wait to read some of the other characters stories next. I'm sure they'll be just as good.

Thank you Denise Wells for allowing me to read this book.

This is a well written book with strong realistic characters and an interesting story. The author does a great job building the story and had me glued to the pages with all the suspense and twists and turns along the way. It's an entertaining story with steamy scenes and a bit of humor. The story moves fluidly and I enjoyed reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

This is my first Denise Wells book. I’m not really certain why I downloaded it? I assume one of the many other contemporary romance authors I follow recommended it and since it was free on K.U. I thought I'd give the author a try. Only I'm totally confused. Did I just read Love Undecided or Keeping Kat or are they one and the same book with a title change since it was originally published 4 years ago? Based on the synopsis and some of the reviews it could go either way. I'll assume it's the same book since the female protagonist is still Kat and she's working as a consultant for the SSPD. But the synopsis fits the actual story in only the most vague way.
I’m certain it’s a guy thing because unlike all the female readers who read contemporary romance for the book boyfriends, its all about the ladies for me. I quite honestly after reading about half of this book had enough of Kat. Yes, I certainly felt bad for her and her struggles with cancer. My own daughter is fighting the same battle right now. But Kat literally had Brad the guy who was madly in love with her and supported her through her original diagnosis, the guy she was supposed to marry in two weeks physically removed from the house he shared with her by the police jeopardizing his career as a fire fighter because she wanted to save him from having to watch cancer take her. Her intentions drunken as they were may have been noble, but that was extreme. Then there’s the fact that after she recovers from her latest battle with cancer (we're told its her 3rd but we're never really told about the 1st one) she enters into a series of as she calls them drunk fucks to apparently try to fuck the memory of Brad out of her mind because she supposedly still loves him. Or she's trying to punish herself for breaking a great guy's heart? I'm not really sure which. But even though she still loves Brad and is jealous of his girlfriend Stacy, she’s got the hots for her new partner Chance even though she's still sore from dry fucking last nights random. So while she’s bringing home randoms to fuck in the most debasing ways as she describes it and getting hot over Chance and fantasizing about him while she rubs one off with her vibrator, she keeps Brad at a distance but never really lets him go. She even has the nerve to get pissy over the fact that he’s been in a FWB relationship with Stacy while she's drunk fucking multiple random guys and fantasizing over Chance. At least Brad knows who he's fucking. But Brad is no prize either. He tries to ease his conscience about the fact that he's fucking Stacy while he's in love with Kat by telling himself he told her it would never be anything more. But he keeps using her body knowing she wants it to be more. You know because we menfolk are controlled by our dicks and even the best of us have to stick them somewhere.
There may be some decent suspense in this story as Kat and the police try to discover who is kidnapping the girls. And OMG nobody but Kat thought to connect the fact that they all go to the same school and are even in the same class? There’s some funny moments. especially when Kat is drunk which she often is. Also her new partner Chance acts like a manwhore flirting with every woman he sees and makes snarky remarks about Brad whose only crime is loving a woman who after almost marrying him keeps pushing him away and then reaching out to him when she needs him. Then there's the underlying dark tone to this because Kat has cancer and as it's her third time around she probably doesn't have a very long life expectancy. Shades of Love Story. Brad's desire to love and support her regardless of how long or little time they have together may be romantic but it hardly leads to the kind of happily ever after I want from my romances. If this is the first book in the series and Kat's two BFFs are the subjects of the next two will Kat even be around to make cameo appearances or will she be fondly remembered?
Sorry kids but this story just absolutely did not work for me.

Swoon worthy at times

Swoon worthy at times, frustrating at other moments. Kat suffers through cancer but breaks things off with Brad because of her deepest fears. Brad fights to get back with her though he's been seeing someone else.

Nice 2nd chance romantic suspense story

It's listed as a firefighter romance and even though the main male hero is a firefighter I feel like this is more of a romantic suspense story with the lead female who is police consultant.
Kat, our heroine, in every way, is working a bizarre case involving 12 yr old girls being stalked, kidnapped and then returned a few days later without any ransom, etc. Brad, our hero, is her ex and a firefighter. They broke up after a major health diagnosis for Kat. But they never got over each other. This case becomes their 2nd chance.
We get multiple points of view thru out. There is suspense, drama, second chances, forgiveness and more.
Characters are well thought out. Storyline is a bit heavy and long but not bad

I enjoyed this book, but the tone was a little off for me. It dealt with some really serious stuff, and the MC was just too goofy. I actually really like her as a character, but with everything else going on in this book, I just don't think it fit.

Classifying this book as an emotional read would truly not do it justice due to the sheer amount of emotions I felt while reading each incredible page. Let me start by saying this. Cancer sucks. A book about the main character having cancer? I was crazy skeptical. But every pull, tug and rip of my heartstrings was absolutely worth it while reading Love Undecided.
Story Line: Kat is a cancer patient. I want to call her a cancer survivor, but I can’t quite do it. Brad is her ex-fiance. At the start of this book. the two have been broken up for nearly a year. Yet the both are still absolutely and completely in love with one another. Then there’s skankbag Stacy. And manwhore Bauer. And thus begins the story of frustration, rebounds and super complex police missions.
Kat broke things off with Brad because she wanted to spare him the pain of her passing away from the cancer. She tells him, and her girlfriends, that it’s better this way. She’s saving him from having to go through the pain of losing his wife . But the heart wants what it wants. Of course, in typical guy fashion, Brad tries to drown his sorrows and loneliness, not in alcohol like a decent human being, but in Stacy. Gross. And Kat buries herself in work with the local P.D. helping investigate tough cases. This is where she meets heart throb Bauer and begins thinking she can smother her feelings for Brad with some flirty words with cop man. Shake your head with me. Horrible idea. Will only end badly.
But as the pages go by and Kat’s feelings for Brad fail to dissolve, the police case unfolds, ties them together time and time again until there’s no denying their love and devotion to one another. There were several times I wanted to strangle either one of these two. But thank you lord Jesus, for happy endings. Pun sort of intended.
Interaction: Brad and Kat are hilarious and sweet and witty. The perfect couple. Hence why it is so dang frustrating that they fight their attraction and love for one another. Bauer and Kat and pretty much strictly hilarious, in my book. He’s short and flirty with her constantly. And she dishes is right back because she’s awesome and that’s her nature. Stacy is crazy annoying and I really just want to throat punch her needy ass. But all of these characters and their interactions weave together beautifully to take some of the darkness of the heavy subject matter away. Not all of it. Because the author knows cancer is not a light topic – but we can’t go through our days just thinking about the inevitable. And this was a wonderful reminder of that.
Laundry: So the only laundry I was concerned about reading was between Kat and Brad. And thank God, when these two say game on – it’s FIRE. I mean, the scene against the building… YEAH. I’m not a big public places fan, but reading about Kat and Brad? Yeah I may have to open my mind up to it a little more frequently. Not for myself and hubby. God no. No one wants to see that. 😉
Depth: Cancer. That one word gives this story enough depth to cross an ocean. Kat having cancer sucks. A lot. There were times while reading their story that I would forget why she won’t just admit her feelings and go back to Brad. And then something happens, you remember and you’re sad all over again. We all know or have known someone who has had cancer. And it’s so freaking painful for everyone involved. Obviously the person with the diagnosis has the most trauma, but if you truly love someone, you feel their pain too. I’ve gone down this path with family twice now and the hurt deep within your soul can be unbearable at time. Denise Wells took this topic, made it incredibly real and somehow managed to shine beauty on it.
This book is going to literally rock your world. It comes out May 23rd and I suggest each and every one of you go out and buy it that day. You will not be disappointed!

Good read

Enjoyed the story but the f-word used too much for me, guess I'm an old girl. Felt sorry for Kat who was Always drinking & seemed depressed. She was an alcoholic who needed counseling. Love Brad who stuck with Kat, no matter how many times she rejected him. Most guys would have let her go & I understand that.

Life is messy, it throws curve balls when we least expect it. This is exactly what happened to Kat, a beautiful successful attorney, in this romantic mystery. When diagnosed with cancer she broke off her engagement with her handsome firefighter boyfriend and began to rely solely on her inner circle of girlfriends for support. While in remission that is when she learned of her ‘gift’. Her gift of premonition leads Kat to working with local law enforcement as she struggles with her own internal demons regarding life, love, and helping others.

Love Undecided – Kat’s Story is a well-crafted introspective romance with an undercurrent of mystery. As Kat comes to terms with allowing someone else to see her at her worst, she learns to accept that she is desirable. The main characters are well developed and the secondary characters are introduced just enough to leave you wanting to know more about them.

I would have liked the mystery, motivation, and conclusion to have been a bit more explained; but having said that this is a romance with an undercurrent of mystery not a mystery with an undercurrent of romance. I highly recommend this for a weekend next to a fireplace or an afternoon on the beach. I suggest not reading it at night as it is such a page turner you might find yourself like I did; reading all night long. I highly anticipate the next installment of this trilogy.

I liked this book. The author is a great writer. The main heroine was bit whiny for me. I really wanted to wack her upside the head a couple of times. That being said her hunky man made up for it and she did figure it out in the end. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Love Undecided OH WOW what a way to start a series. I loved Kat and Brad so much!! Brad and Kat had been together, and have been apart for some time now as Kat was diagnosed with cancer, again. She pushed Brad away and decided, and according to list, she needed to stay away from the sexy-ex.

Working for the Police station in town sometimes, as her intuition kicks in, she meets Chance. She thinks she can use him to get over Brad, but again, according to her list, she needs to stay away from people she works with.

She has her two besties, Lexi and Remi to help her through with the cancer, the sexy-ex Brad, Chance, and her stalker that comes for her. Chance and Kat figure out the stalker is linked to their current case, and then Brad comes along in the picture again as he's the local firefighter and has to get involved.

Brad puts his foot down and tells Kat that he wants her again, and makes the pursuit. Love wins out in the end, and Kat gives in and it's the best thing that's happened to her besides them catching her stalker.

I really enjoyed the camaraderie between the besties, the dialogue with Brad, and Chance even. There's some twists and turns that makes this book so engaging you have to keep reading to find out what happens!

Undecided love was one emotional, sad but also funny read. It's mix between romance and crime story.

Both characters have been in love with each other since they met.  Due to her health issues Kat decided to live in denial because she didn't want Brad to be her care taker. Kat helps the police to solve some criminal cases which takes you to scenes where the police relies on Kat's feelings. Also Kat's best friends play a huge role in her life and you get the feeling how important is to have a great support in bad times.

The plot was greatly written, including some quite steaming hot fireman scenes and let me tell you if I would have had more time I would devour it much earlier. Believe me when I tell you, you have to read Kat and Brad's story. You won't get bored at any point or regret any minute. I hope you will love it just like my ol' self

This book wrecked me! I mean that in a good way. The story was complex, well developed, had me on an emotional rollercoaster, and had incredible characters. Once you read about Kat Walker's character, I dare you not to be a sobbing mess. The situations she has gone through and continues to go through are just heartbreaking. Brady's character is supportive, loving, determined and sexy (firefighter). Chance's character adds some levity when needed, but is also gritty and determined to catch the perp. The supporting characters are wonderful and really balance the main ones. The plot and subplot are beautifully interwoven to create an absolutely fantastic read. Highly recommend. Look forward to reading more of this series.

So, I am a little confused as to what book I am actually leaving a review for Keeping Kat? Or Love Undecided? My Kindle say one thing and other sites something else. So, I am reviewing for Keeping Kat as that is the story I read.

This is my first book by this author – while it was an interesting story line, I couldn’t deal with Kat. Yes, I felt bad for her illness but the constant pushing and pulling of Brad and his feelings…. Just wanted to throw my Kindle or slap Kat. Thankfully I did nether. Kat – grab that happiness by the bull horns and go for a ride!

There were plenty twists and turns to keep me interested in the story and Brad certainly helped in that department. Toss in some steamy scenes and some mystery/suspense and it was overall a good read.

This was my first book by Denise Wells. I loved every minutes of this emotional read. I loved Kat and Brad so much. This book was funny, sad, romantic, and mysterious it really had everything. Kat and Brad feel in love at first sight. I envy Kat and her best friend, you can just feel the love all around. I cannot stress how much I loved this plot. There are some super hot police and firemen in this book. You guys really need to read this book! I was drawn in right away and was still in the story even after reading the last page. This is a must read! Go get your copy your now you will not be sorry!

I received an ARC from Denise Wells for this book and I have to say I love it! It's not exactly what I expected, but I loved it regardless. What made this book so amazing is the journey Kat is going through and the decisions she is making. The book is amazingly relatable, even though what Kat is going through may not be, I feel I would handle it in a similar way. Denise wrote an amazing story here and everyone needs to read it! We have some drama, hot guys, policemen and firemen, and lots of love. What more could we want from a book?!
