The Old Man and the Sea is a wonderful reflection on mortality and a man's struggle with his own life...what he has done, his limitations, and acceptance. The Sun Also Rises is a partially a fish out of water story where Americans and United Kingdomers explore older and different cultures. It is also a love story, although a convoluted one. Hemmingway also ties his characters to the bull fights...the characters arcs climaxing with the fights. The questions around people being compared and paired with animals serve the characters differently. A Farewell to Arms is Hemmingway's working his way through how people deal with War and the small comforts that they cling to get through it. Hemmingway has deep characters and great settings that paint accurate portrayals of the times and places.
