The Kane Brothers #2

Recovering Beauty

Rate this book
She saves him from himself. But he ruins her for anyone else.

He shouldn’t smile at me. He shouldn’t even look at me. He’s cost me more than he’ll ever know yet he’s saved me in ways he’ll never realize. Carter Kane is different. He sees past me and through me and into me all at the same time. He makes the damaged parts of me beautiful and the beautiful parts inconsequential.

She's the last person I expect to meet here. Wide blue eyes, full lips, and flowers in her hair, she looks like she could grace the cover of a magazine. Or dance at Coachella. But when Taylor Clarke unexpectedly catapults into my life, she flips it upside down, forcing me to see things differently. Forcing me to admit things I’d rather forget.

Sometimes life hands us a second chance. A fresh start. Sometimes life deals us a tragedy that we just manage to recover from. Sometimes, it’s even beautiful.

This is my first read by Miss Azzi. And as she promises, the story is sweet. Very PG 13 sweet. It is suitable for NA audience. Sometimes I do like a very sweet cheesy romance. It is difficult to find a book that have min angst/ drama and nothing but cheesy sweetness.

Recovering Beauty offers cheesy sweetness. What is lacking is the the content. The plot is unreal. Its almost have no plot. the conflict is resolved very quickly without any real conflict or drama. The characters can be developed much better. More dimension.

Overall this book serves its purpose as a cheesy sweet goodness.

Carter and Taylor meet by accident- literally. From different worlds- one a model from a wealthy Savannah socialite family, the other, working hard to keep a roof over his head- they seem an unlikely match. But he sees beyond the model exterior, and she sees beyond the high walls that he’s erected to protect his family.

I saw the potential snags in the relationship coming, as well as the twist towards the end. But that being said, it was an enjoyable read. The dialogue was natural, and the supporting characters (which often make or break a book for me) were developed and amusing. This is a good book to relax with and escape- with a glass of tea... or something stronger- after a long day of work.

I adored this story!

We all met Carter Kane in Jax & Evie’s story, Rescuing Broken (If you haven’t read that one yet it would behoove to do so ASAP). He’s the older brother to Jax, and the friend who feels responsible for Evie’s drama. (See what I mean...it would behoove you).

Any who...so now Carter has his own story to tell.

He’s always been the one who felt responsible for his family. Mom passed away years before leaving the 4 siblings to fend for themselves, since their low life father wasn’t any help to them. The eldest Kane, Denver, ends up in the Pen, Jax enlists and Daisey is way at college. All while Carter struggles to make the family ends meet by engaging in shady, not so legal activities.

One bad decision later, his world collides with Taylor Clarke’s. The privileged model’s life is turned upside down, the only plus is Carter. He gives her chills and tummy flutters.

Carter can’t believe how perfect she is and not just on he outside. Taylor knows there is something special about Carter. But when secrets come out that threaten everything they’ve both longed for, can their love withstand the pain?

LOVED! LOVED! LOVED! Loved the storyline. Loved the characters. Loved the connection between Carter and Taylor. Loved that Taylor is so down to earth and not a thing like you’d expect her to be given her privileged life. Loved how freaking amazing Carter is. Loved it all!

Gina Azzi does it again!
Recovering Beauty brings Carter Kane & Taylor Clarke into a relationship that neither of them saw coming. Accidents happen and with this one many things good and bad come from it.
Not wanting to give too much away!
This story is a start over for each character and sometimes starting over can be a challenge but in the end you get out what you put in.
I can’t wait to read Denver’s story!

Such a beautiful story - as I've come to expect from Ms. Azzi.

Carter has had a harder life than even his brothers know. He's had to keep both him and his sister afloat while his brothers were elsewhere and it's taken a toll on him.
But injuring her may have been the worst yet.
An accident leaves him unable to get the beautiful, yet now broken girl out of his mind. A chance meeting with her proves that sometimes the people who break also have the power to make us feel whole once again.

Wonderful, effortless writing. Entrancing characters. Emotional storyline. You don't merely read this book, you feel it.

This is the second book in the Kane brother series, and as good as the first book. Carter had to step up in the past when his brother Denver went to prison because of getting involved with the MC his father was involved with, his brother Jax enlisted, and someone had to take care of his younger sister Daisy. The guys of the MC started talking crap about Daisy which pulled Carter in to the club to keep them away from Daisy. Now Daisy has graduated college and Carter is finished with the Club even though the Club and his dad try to pull him back in. One night Carter and his friends were partying and ran out of ice. His friend Gunner offered to go get the ice and Carter went with him. Gunner took his eyes off the road and ran into a car. Gunner’s blood level was over the limit and got charged with DUI. Taylor, who is a model, and her date Barrington were in the car. Taylor was hurt bad. She had to be operated on and now has a big scar down the front of her, a limp, and a small scar on her forehead. This is a blow to her modeling career. Carter goes to see her at the hospital to apologize and leaves. Taylor is part of Big Brothers and Sisters and has a little sister. Carter is mandated by a judge to be a Big Brother. He meets a boy named Marco that hasn’t had good luck with a Big Brother. As the two are going to a park to play catch, they run in to Taylor and her Little Sister. They talk some and Carter invites Taylor to coffee which starts their relationship.

There are so many things going on in the background that I don’t want to give away. I did like how Taylor changed her life for the better. Too many people had used her in the past to get close to her because she was a model, or for her father. I hated that Carter thought he was bad and didn’t deserve anything good in his life, especially Taylor. Don’t get me started on the Kane brother’s scumbag of a father! I am looking forward to Denver’s story next. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

After having the pleasure of reading the first book in this series, I was eagerly anticipating the second, and any others that come! This book is a stand alone, but I feel like you'll get a better connection to the characters if you read the first book in the series. It's a feel good book with a fantastic outcome that gives you hope for humanity and love.

Life hands these characters a tragedy that leads to life altering circumstances. How they handle the situations, choices, and moments may change their lives forever. It's about second chances. But not just that, it's about finding your inner strength and self worth. The first chapter breaks your heart and leaves your pulse pounding; but the resulting writing is a series of hilarious lines, hold your breath moments, sweet actions, and the gut wrenching unfairness of life...all tempered by knowing there's a happily ending somehow.

After being introduced to Carter in Rescuing Broken, I could not wait to see what happened when love walked into his life. Carter is the strong rock brother that stayed in town to help raise his little sister. He's the brother that seems responsible without being sure of himself. He's a good guy, with some unfair life foisted on him. But how he deals shows that he's well on his way to being a great man. Daisy is a girl who seems to have it all: looks, money, family, boyfriend. But social status and “things” don't make a person happy. So when some of those things disappear, she has to re-evaluate her life and how to be happy and content. Their interactions are fantastic. It was one of my favorite love stories to see unfold. You cringed, you cried, you wished you were there (can I be Daisy?), you loved with them.

Carter and Daisy start off rough, due to circumstances. But they start an awkward but amazing friendship that turns to more. I liked that their whole relationship wasn't just about how hot the sex was. There's more to life than that, and making sure you can stand each other, and stand up for each other, out of the bedroom is important. But their differences work well for their characters and spice up the story.

Gina Azzi draws you in so fast. The first two chapters set up a cliffhangar and the whole plot; you have to keep going to know what's going to happen. I love her writing. It's funny, it's witty, it's serious, it's amazing! She keeps all the details relevant, fast paced, and applicable.

read other books by this author? Would you recommend this book to others? Final thoughts on book.
I loved how this book turned out. And I loved how it set up their brother for a book. And I loved how we got to see a bit more of Jax and Evie. You should all read it!

Favorite Quotes:
“Let's add this to the list of Carter Kane [mess-ups]. Why do I always end up hurting the ones I care about, even when I'm trying to do the right thing?”
“She's different. I knew it the moment I saw her, walking with her eyes closed, her face gently turned up toward the sunshine, a small smile playing over her lips. She looked like she was truly enjoying the day, the way kids enjoy something, fully and completely.”
“She's effortlessly charming, genuinely honest. She's refreshing.”
“He was nothing like I expected. Gorgeous, yes. Charming, sure. But I didn't anticipate his quick wit, sense of humor, or the intelligence that sparked just behind the warmth in his sea-foam green eyes.”

Taylor Clark had it all; a top model, a lavish townhouse, more money than she needed or would ever spend, loving parents, and a casual male friend to escort her to all the society events “to see and be seen”. Taylor was content, if not wholly happy, with her life. Until one night, when her world was shattered….
Carter Kane was a bad boy made good; his dad is in prison, his mother dead; Carter had his younger siblings to care for and protect. He ran a struggling repair shop and when that didn’t pay the bills, he got involved with the same motorcycle gang that his dad had been a part of before his incarceration. Carter did whatever it took to keep his family fed and together: ran drugs, did pickups, ran an underground fight ring and poker games; but he drew the line at murder. Carter had finally had enough; one last job and he was through with the motorcycle gang. He was done…
On their way to an event, Taylor and her escort Wade Barrington are broadsided by Gunnar and Carter. Wade walked away with barely a scratch, but Taylor wasn’t so fortunate. Hospitalized with nearly fatal wounds, Taylor fights her way back to life, but it’s a life so altered by the accident she barely recognizes herself. Once a poised, confident, adored young woman, she finds herself suddenly scarred, damaged… unlovable…
Carter is consumed by guilt because of what happened to Taylor. He wants to tell her how truly sorry he is but is afraid; afraid to face the condemnation he fully expects from Taylor. But Taylor surprises him with her response. She doesn’t blame him, as she knows he wasn’t driving the truck that hit her and Wade. The fault squarely lands on Gunnar, the driver. As Carter and Taylor converse, Carter realizes he wants to see more of Taylor, to really get to know her. Here is a strong woman, unafraid to go after what matters to her. Regardless of the challenge, Taylor knows what she wants from life and how to achieve her goals. Maybe Carter can learn something from her….
As they grow closer, Carter is repeatedly approached by Tex from the motorcycle gang. They have one more job for him. Carter isn’t interested, but Tex is insistent. Just one more job. Carter is to force the high roller that’s welshing on his debt to make good, or else…. Carter’s answer is no, until he discovers just who the high roller is… and Carter’s world comes crashing down….

Riveting! I was captured from the first sentence and willingly stayed that way through the entire book. I wanted to cry several times reading this book. It struck home the dangers of drunk driving, the slippery slope of just how far someone will go to protect their own; it gave me chills when Carter and Taylor were at odds, wondering how they could overcome the differences between them. Would recommend this book to anyone that likes a bad boy/good girl story but be aware; this isn’t fluff and stuff: it’s angry, it’s angsty, it’s gritty and graphic.

Taylor Clarke is a model and just was announced as the face of a very popular brand when her life is turned upside down after attending a gala with Barrington Wade. She and Barrington were involved in a car accident and Taylor is seriously injured and she knows that her days as a model are over.
Carter Kane was a passenger in the car that hit Taylor but he blames himself for the accident and her injuries. When the court orders him to become a big brother he meets Marco and then meets Taylor again.
As Carter and Taylor form a friendship both must deal with certain aspects of their pasts and families that have affected the person they are now. Can the two deal with their completely different backgrounds to come out on top and will they both find the real value of their families to put all the pieces in place?
This is a great book about finding yourself and trying to better yourself while making peace with mistakes you have made in the past.
I really liked Taylor and how kind hearted she was. She grew up privileged and was a model but she still gave back as much as she could, including volunteer work. She hated having to got to events with Barrington for her father and how he acted towards those that have less.
Carter Kane was trying to get himself on the right path after a brief period of time with the Devil’s Shadows MC which he was part of due to his father. I completely understood why he temporarily was with them and I hated Carter’s father for what he subjected the family to because of his connections. I hated that his dad was still trying to control him from jail. I felt bad for Carter with how difficult his financial situation was in and how he really didn’t want Taylor to know how bad it was. Carter had so much remorse over the accident and I knew he was going to do great things.
I hated when Carter put the pieces together on how his life was linked to Taylor’s and I was shocked at what he did to protect her family when he realized what he had done.
I loved how Carter told the truth to everyone about what was happening and how they all knew they were going to stick together and help each other through!! The end was great and I loved how it all finally came together for Carter!

WOW, what a read! Well written filled with so many tender moments, so many moments of building someone back up, making them realize that their beauty is not only on the outside, but is more importantly on the inside. Two people brought together by an accident, their worlds different in so many ways, a relationship that is forged in the similarities that they share. I loved reading about Carter and Taylor and watching their relationship grow, falter, then blossom into the beautiful love that was always meant to be theirs. She's from a wealthy family, a model and as sweet as she can possibly be. He's from a family who's mother died and who's father is in prison, leaving them to struggle to make ends meet. Leaving Carter to work for the MC to make money to put his sister through college, and then he's out. This is their story, and what a story it is.

I loved visiting with Jax and Evie again and watching the family dynamics between the four siblings as they prepare for Jax and Evie to move and begin their future together. I loved watching as Carter reveals his past to them and comes clean with them regarding their father and the MC that has been trying to get him to come back. The way they continue to have his back, and the way they brought Taylor into their family. I also enjoyed the relationship between Taylor and Ria and Carter and Marco, their little brother and little sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I especially liked this because I happen to work for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Louisiana! So yes, this book will always have a special place in my heart.

I adored this book and I highly recommend it! The first book was just as brilliant and I hope that everyone who loves a great romance read will take a chance on these.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love Gina Azzi's books. The way she creates flawed characters that feel so real that you might actually pass them on the street or see them drinking at your local watering hole, is truly amazing.

Recovering Beauty - the story of Carter Kane - takes place right where Jax and Evie's story left off. Carter is struggling to make ends meet, and is trying to distance himself from the shady lifestyle his imprisoned father dragged him into. One fateful night, he is involved in a car accident, and from that moment on, both his life and the life of the woman in the other car is changed forever.

Following rehab and recovery, Taylor has to cut back on her life as a model, and must find a new path. But despite being from a wealthy family, not all is wine and roses at home. She, like Carter, face difficult decisions regarding their future. A chance meeting between the two of them creates sparks, then full-blown chemistry, and the tension that builds is so palpable it had me turning page after page!

If you love romance that feels true-to-live and not glamorized, fantasized, or embellished, then Gina Azzi should be one of your favorite authors. She's one of mine, and her writing just gets better each time.

The Kane Brothers Book 2

Wowza! I am loving this series by Ms. Azzi.

Recovering Beauty is Carter Kane's story. I like to think that the title of this book is both about Taylor's recovery and also Carter's recovery from the life he lead to the life he wants.

The way they initially meet is so unfortunate. Fate can be a cruel mistress. And the results leave scars on the both of them.

The chemistry between Carter and Taylor is electrifying! Carter is swoony and Taylor is a beautiful soul.

I loved and hated the twist in the story! (Hated in a good way!) I knew when that bomb dropped it was going to change things.  Just like in the first book in this series, you don't see it coming until BAM! It really moved me when Carter believed that karma was coming back to bite him.

I enjoyed catching up with past characters, the Kane family and friends! To see what everyone was up to and what was next in their worlds.

I can't wait to read the next story in this series! I also hope that Daisy gets a book of her own too!  I know it's the Kane Brothers Series but the Kane sister deserves a story! Right?!?

Readers, get your hands on this book! It can totally be read as a stand alone, but to really enjoy it, read the first book Rescuing Broken

This book broke the mold in two ways with atypical characters that I loved. First, it’s usually the oldest brother who looks out for the younger ones but in this case it’s Carter, not Denver, who is the protector. Second, usually the rich parents would snub the “lower class” guy their daughter is spending time with. That’s not the case here. I thought the parents would be a big plot point but luckily it wasn’t and that gave more time to delve into Carter and Taylor’s relationship. I loved them! Carter just wants what is best for those he loves and would lay his life on the line for them. Taylor wants her life back after doing so much for her family’s business. Carter and Taylor didn’t know they are connected in ways they wish they weren’t and that slowly comes together in the book until POW! There’s the conflict and it’s a doozy. This is an excellent follow up to Rescuing Broken and it drops some great hints on what will happen in Denver’s book. Don’t miss out on the second book of the Kane brothers series!

Recovering Beauty (The Kane Brothers #2)
By Gina Azzi

I LOVED this book!!! This is the second book that I have read by this author and I have to admit this was a step up from the first book (which I did also enjoy) I just felt like the authors writing was so much better in this book especially in regards to pace. Everything about the book was great, I loved the characters, and it just felt like such a natural book to read, the authors words just flowed so easily and I found that I couldn’t put it down until I had finished. After meeting Carter in the first book I was really looking forward to his story and I was not disappointed at all!!
This is definitely one of those stories where you easily give spoilers away in the review and I definitely do not want to do that. Carter Kane was amazing! I loved him straight away. He sacrificed so much in his life that I wanted him to get his happily ever after.
All I can really say about this book is you should absolutely one click it today! You won’t regret it!! I am looking forward to the next book in the series!!

This series is a lot deeper than most small town romance reads. It’s a real family with real problems making real mistakes.

Carter with his big heart and infectious grin has been a bad boy. He’s keeping secrets and they will come back to bite him. I truly felt for him. It’s like no matter how hard he tries to do the right thing, it gets messed up.

My heart smiled when he meets Taylor, even though it was a terrible first encounter. They had some hard issues to work through, but I really enjoyed their story.

A privileged rich girl meet a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks.

Taylor lives the lavish life of a model with not a care in the world. Carter is a bad boy who would do anything for his family. The two are thrown together by a mix of serendipity and bad decisions.

Will Carter’s secret connection to Taylor and her family be too much for happily ever after?

The second book in this series can be read as a stand alone but is an amazing sequel to the first book. I love a story about an underdog who is given a second chance, and this book met all of my needs.

This picks up right where book 1 ends so make sure you read Rescuing Broken. Carter feels responsible for his family and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Taylor is a model having been in rehab and is still recovering. They both have tough decisions to make and there not fun. In the end there chance meeting seems to forge two people who are so similar yet so different.

This second book in the Kane Brothers series is the romantic story of Carter and Taylor as they both face and overcome several challenges. Taylor is beautiful, works as a model, volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, but also must suffer through various events with her father’s associate Barrington, playing nice for the cameras to bring positive press to the company. Carter has a secret that his family does not know about and that he is trying to get away from, despite his father’s manipulation. Just as he’s making progress in changing his life, he and a friend make a mistake that impacts them both, but Taylor most of all. But when fate brings Carter and Taylor together, they both learn things about themselves they never realized, all while slowly giving the other their hearts.

I loved the first Kane brothers book about Jax and Evie so I was so excited to read this one! I’m not sure if I like this one better, but I loved it just as much. Carter seemed so playful and carefree in book 1, but I quickly learned in this book that the young man is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. Like Taylor, who outwardly appeared to have a perfect life, Carter took on responsibilities and carried guilt that stifled his happiness in life. The fabulous thing about this novel is the opportunity to watch both Carter and Taylor make changes, stand up for themselves and what they believe in, and get to the point where they each liked who they were and where they were in their lives.

For those familiar with Gina Azzi, Recovering Beauty maintains her wonderful, easy-to-read writing style that is vivid enough to propel you into the story without going overboard with details that make reading cumbersome. The plot is intriguing with some twists and turns that made me wonder about the outcome of this young couple, and there is a perfect balance of happiness blended with the realities of life such as disappointment and loss. This is a great read that contemporary romance/new adult and college fans will love, although I do recommend reading Rescuing Broken first so that you are familiar with the family and their experiences. You can certainly read this as a stand-alone, but why do that when you can devour more of this fantastic series?

*Many thanks to GMB and Gina Azzi for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I adore Gina's storytelling, and the characters she brings to life.

The way I gasped when Carter and Taylor first saw each other. It was definitely memorable. Even if it wasn't the best circumstance. Then to see how Carter reacted, how concerned he was, and how he made it his mission to apologize, it was all just so good.

Taylor had every right to be mad at Carter, Gunner, and Barrington. Her pain, frustration, and anger were perfectly understandable. After all it was her life that was being affected.

I really enjoyed the way that Carter slowly worked to build a friendship with Taylor. Then there were the sparks that flew between them. You wouldn't think that these two opposites pair so well together, yet they do. Carter was a safe place for Taylor to be herself, speak about her passions, and voice concerns. The same could be said about Taylor being there for Carter. He finally found someone that he could open up to about many things in his life.

When the club came calling though I was worried. When things heated up there I was nervous about the future of Taylor and Carter's relationship. I shouldn't have been, because once again Carter stepped up to take care of those he holds dear. While it wasn't ideal, he did it out of necessity.

The one thing I wished had been shared in the book was the moment when Joe found out about Carter's "assistance" with the club, and how that affected his family.

Cannot wait for Denver's story to see how that all plays out. Thankfully I have that book, as well as Daisy's, on hand to read next. I'm loving the Kane family.

The two heroes in this book meet in dire circumstances. A car accident Carter if you remember from previous books is sort of a ladies man. He practically raised his younger sister, was in a MC club he recently got out of, but one mistake him getting in a car with a friend that was drunk and causes an accident causes him to meet Taylor.

Taylor is a model, she seems sort of shallow in the beginning, her family is rich and she is dating an obnoxious man whom she can’t stand, but is doing it for her parents. Her modeling career is better than ever until the accident cause her her career. She is in a down time in her life. No job and her true friend is an eleven year old girl. She wants to blame someone for her misfortune and she wants to blame Carter so bad even though he was not even driving the car.

Carter blames himself and he is so sorry for how things went . This story is about forgiveness and healing which both characters do. I enjoyed watching these two fall for each other and how meeting Taylor changes Carter’s view on women. Now on to the next book.

Recovering Beauty by Gina Azzi is the second book in The Kane Brothers Series. It can easily be read as a standalone. But I recommend reading Rescuing Broken first! It is fantastic. This is such a wonderful love story. I love these characters. What am I talking about... I love all the characters in The Kane Brothers Series. Carter is at a crossroads in his life where he wants to get on the right path. He has had to make some poor choices in the past out of desperation to protect and provide for his family. Taylor is a strong and independent women. She too is at a crossroads in her life. Faced with her career being on the rocks and her father using her, she needs to make some hard choices. These two characters are amazing together. They couldn't need each other more and together they make each other stronger. This is one of my favorite series. I can't wait for Den's story!

*** ARC Received for Honest Review ***

***3.5/4 stars***

I did not read the first in this series, but this is a great standalone without the first book. Taylor and Carter couldn't come from two more different worlds but fate crosses their paths several times leading them exactly where they belong. I really enjoyed how vulnerable and open Taylor is when examining her life and her priorities. Carter is a swoon worthy alpha male taking care of his family while looking for his purpose in the world. The attraction between Taylor and Carter builds in such a sweet way. I would have liked a little more drama in their secrets but I'm a sucker for angst. If you like sugary HEA's this will be right up your alley (Review by Terri "Jane")

I think Carter is my favorite out of the Kane men. He's put his life on hold to make sure his younger sister had a decent life, but I didn't realize how much he sacrificed and at what cost. I thought he was selfless and generous, but I didn't guess that there could be more to this story. Both he and Taylor have beautiful hearts and are selfless. It makes them perfect for each other. I didn't want their story to end.

This is the second book in the series and it just a well written as the first. Each book focuses on a different brother this one has made mistakes in his past trying to protect his family and these secrets affect his romance and his family to a certain degree. A chance meeting gets to meet a woman who because of accident has to come to accept herself in different ways also learns about her fathers troubles but a least every thing works out which sets you up beautifully for book 3
