Sometimes, being an ATAC agent doesn’t seem so bad. When Frank and Joe are sent to a tropical island resort in paradise to investigate a string of thefts, they’re not complaining. But once they get there, something seems off about the mission. . . . Soon the brothers feel like missing jewelry is the least of their concerns. Meanwhile, Nancy Drew, Bess, and George are staying at the hotel as guests. They, too, sense something off about this particular paradise, and when they run into Frank and Joe, it seems that no one—not even an old friend—is above suspicion.
Carolyn Keene is a writer pen name that was used by many different people- both men and women- over the years. The company that was the creator of the Nancy Drew series, the Stratemeyer Syndicate, hired a variety of writers. For Nancy Drew, the writers used the pseudonym Carolyn Keene to assure anonymity of the creator.
Edna and Harriet Stratemeyer inherited the company from their father Edward Stratemeyer. Edna contributed 10 plot outlines before passing the reins to her sister Harriet. It was Mildred Benson (aka: Mildred A. Wirt), who breathed such a feisty spirit into Nancy's character. Mildred wrote 23 of the original 30 Nancy Drew Mystery Stories®, including the first three. It was her characterization that helped make Nancy an instant hit. The Stratemeyer Syndicate's devotion to the series over the years under the reins of Harriet Stratemeyer Adams helped to keep the series alive and on store shelves for each succeeding generation of girls and boys. In 1959, Harriet, along with several writers, began a 25-year project to revise the earlier Carolyn Keene novels. The Nancy Drew books were condensed, racial stereotypes were removed, and the language was updated. In a few cases, outdated plots were completely rewritten.
Other writers of Nancy Drew volumes include Harriet herself, she wrote most of the series after Mildred quit writing for the Syndicate and in 1959 began a revision of the first 34 texts. The role of the writer of "Carolyn Keene" passed temporarily to Walter Karig who wrote three novels during the Great Depression. Also contributing to Nancy Drew's prolific existence were Leslie McFarlane, James Duncan Lawrence, Nancy Axelrod, Priscilla Doll, Charles Strong, Alma Sasse, Wilhelmina Rankin, George Waller Jr., and Margaret Scherf.
I have read both Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys and quite like them both, though I am partial to the former. But I really enjoy it most when the two come together. I have only read one such book before, and that was a bunch of short stories. This one is a full length story, part of a series.
In Club Dread, Nancy and her friends, Bess & George, are invited by her father's client to stay at an environmentally friendly resort for a week. Meanwhile, Frank and Joe are already there trying to solve a spate of robberies that has been taking place there. Members of the ATAC - American Teens Against Crime (I am pretty sure such an organisation has got to be illegal! :D), the Hardy brothers are posing as employees. The groups gang up and solve the mystery together.
At first, I didn't like it much. The characters all behaved quite differently than what I am used to. Like Hannah Gruen telling tales of her numerous relatives, for which she is apparently quite famous. Hmmm, not to me! And who is Aunt Trudy? She never appeared in canon! The Hardy Boys had just one aunt, and her name was Gertrude. I doubt the boys would have dared to call her Trudy! Like ever! Frank, whom I had pegged down as debonair and funny, is a total dork in this series. Bess becomes a super confident super mechanic. This must just be set in a completely different universe.
It also took me a while to get used to the narrative style, with chapters being narrated by Nancy, Frank, or Joe. But once you get past all this, the book is quite fun. The characters are all enjoyable and there are nice moments when they interact. There is a lot of action in the book, and very little sexism (colour me surprised!). For a change, no one patronises Nancy either. The camaraderie between the chars do come out, and the story itself is interesting.
I'm sorry, this is probably the worst nancy drew I've read as an adult. Everything is over the top, illogical or even impossible. The whole eco-conscious luxury resort is absurd. And, as always, the american detectives can't help but suspect the eastern european immigrants that came from communist led countries. I am very tired of this trope.

In 'Club Dread', Frank and Joe find themselves sent on an odd mission by ATAC. They are to work with another ATAC agent to solve a series of assaults and thefts at a luxury eco-tourist lodge. Meanwhile, Nancy has lucked out to a free week at the same lodge with her friends Bess and George. Nancy is surprised to see Frank and Joe at the same place. But, she is even more surprised when she seems to have stopped a murder in progress. To Nancy, it looked like the other ATAC agent was going to whack Joe. But, Frank and Joe didn't think there was anything to it. And, yet, over the next few days, the mystery deepens. This was a really good mystery with a satisfying twist ending.
No matter what, I will ALWAYS love Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys! Together solving mysteries or apart, these guys forever rock! It's a simple read - I admit, but that's why I love them so much! No matter the plot or how you know what's going to happen in the end, but with a cool twists and turns and the switching of POVs, these guys are totally my childhood heroes!
One chapter is Nancy Drew's part of the Mystery then it goes on to a separate chapter for both the Hardy boys. I love how they put together two amazing Detective series into one. This is an amazing book.

Mini-review: Good mystery. This was either the first or the second book I ever read about the Hardy Boys. The other one was Secrets of the Nile. So I have a history with this book. But I enjoyed it. George seemed slightly out of character, more like a cross between Bess's boy craziness and a temperamental toddler. Other than that, it was good.
Fan Cast: Nancy Drew - Katherine McNamara Frank Hardy - Timothée Chalamet Joe Hardy - Skyler Gisondo Bess Marvin - Abigail Breslin George Fayne - Brianna Hildebrand Matthias Dunstock - Brenton Thwaites Andrew Niktin - Brad Garrett Petrovitch Niktin - John DeSantis Jack Thorton - Billy Dee Williams Thatcher - Chai Hansen
This book was AMAZING. But i kind of thought who would be the culprit. So it wasn't so thrilling to me at the end.
But a lot of things did happen which left me in utter disbelief
There were a lot times Joe being Joe (and that is constantly flirting, especially with Bess) I would've loved some more Frank and Nancy moments but it's definitely okay. There were a few times when Frank would just blush (because he's too overwhelmed to say anything) He even called Nancy "Nance" and Joe even said that Frank has a crush on Nancy. What could be better?
Now, coming back to the story This book is basically about Frank, Joe and Matthias (another ATAC Agent) going to Wetlands to investigate about the robbery and assualtion of Jasmina, a popular celebrity. When they get there they find Nancy Bess and George. Frank and Joe tells them everything and the two teams pair up and do some serious sleuthing.
This book is really good. It revitalised my mood. Recommended for everyone !
This read like a Disney Channel series episode, which I enjoyed in a way. I also like how the protagonists now have distinct personalities. On the downside, the mystery had a poor pool of suspects, a blurry crime (that could have been fleshed out more), and a predictable resolution. This is felt more like a preteen action/adventure than a teen mystery.
Yeah, you can solve the mystery within the first 20 pages or so, but that's not really what the books are about, are they? As usual, this was a fun installment in a series I'm now halfway through (seriously, why are the '90s Supermysteries so hard to get ahold of?), and they're properly paced (taking a half-hour or thereabouts to read all the way through).
This one had a different feel to it than the previous two crossover mysteries, but I still enjoyed it. The premise was interesting, but it was so short that there wasn’t much actual mystery or mystery solving. The characters kind of stumbled on everything accidentally. I also found this one pretty predictable compared to some of the others.
I was really looking forward to this one, but I was disappointed. It wasn't as well written or engaging as the older ones. It felt thin and rushed. I just ordered an older book so I can read it and remember why I love Nancy and the Hardys together.
Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys Club Dread Carolyn Keene And Franklin W. Dixon Fiction Mystery 162 pages
Nancy Drew gets a couple of plane tickets for a free week at an economically friendly hotel. Meanwhile, the Hardy Boys are investigating a mystery. Their friend Matthias was working with them. A celebrity was robbed and put in a coma. She had lots of expensive jewelry that was taken. When Nancy, Bess, and George get there, they are given a very special suite. The next night it is wrecked. Nancy then saves the Hardy Boys and she gets caught up on the mystery. Nancy, Bess, George, Frank, and Joe are all working together to find out who did it. Frank gets hurt and almost dies so they must watch each other’s back. Solving this mystery is harder then they expect it to be. Do they catch the right person? You have to read the book to find out.
I enjoyed this book, because I like mysteries. When you read a mystery, there is so much suspense that you don’t want to stop reading. I also like Nancy drew and the Hardy Boys. If you don’t want to read two different books, what is better than getting all three in one book working together? I love it when they work together, because then you can compare how they solve the mystery and you can see how they react around each other. I like mystery books, because you can solve the mystery with them. If you like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, I suggest reading one of the books where they work together so you can “be with them” both at the same time.
Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys (Club Dread) is a story about Frank and Joe who are sent to a tropical island resort to investigate a rash of thefts. They run into some of their friends Nancy Drew, Bess, and George who is also staying at the resort and they too also notice something is not quite right at the resort. The plot thickens and no one is above suspicion not even friends. Trust me you won’t be disappointed reading this book.
The theme of this book is mystery and would be a good read for students between the ages of 9 - 12 years old and could be use in the classroom to help students understand what mysteries are by discussing mysteries they have read or seen on TV.
If you love the original Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys mysteries, you will love the union of the two in this book and others.

It was fun to re-visit a series I enjoyed as a kid. It was a quick read and had a lot of the elements I enjoyed from both the Nancy Drew series and the Hardy Boys series. I love it when they do series crossovers! Tweens who like mystery and adventure would enjoy this book.
