They thought the truth would bring people together. Instead, they started a war.
When Aleesha and Trey hand over the secret files they found in the basement of the government headquarters to the media, they hope it will bring Insiders and Outsiders together. United, they would have the power to rebel against the oppressive government.
They're wrong.
While the Insiders turn their backs, protected by the Wall that divides the city, Outsiders rebel in the only way they know how: riots, death and destruction.
As London erupts in violence, taking down the government's sinister militia seems to be the only viable course of action. But what Aleesha finds inside the Metz compound will change her life – and her relationship with Trey – forever.
Join Aleesha and Trey as they fight for truth, justice and freedom in the second book of The Wall Series. This is London – but not as you know it.

Oh I feel so heartbroken for most of these characters!
This was such an awesome sequel, it was engaging and action driven for the most part. But I also loved the emotions I was feeling while reading the book Such as anger, fear, love and betrayal We are in for a roller coaster ride of emotions for both Trey and Aleesha.
They will both face the ultimate battle, both physically and mentally. Aleesha and Trey want the people from both sides of the wall to know what really happens in society. But when the information is released, the outcome is not what they expected. There is bloodshed and fear in the hearts of many. Brothers will turn against each other, the government will force control by any means possible. Aleesha and Trey will have to fight their way to find out how to stop these problems from growing
But they will be forced to make decisions that may hurt their lives. It will make them think about their loved ones, each other and what they think they should really do. I love this sequel because I feel like we got to explore Trey's and Aleesha's inner conflicts more than in the first novel.
I cannot wait to see how this series will end, we are given many reflections throughout the novel. And even left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end! Really excited to see how it will turn out!
I received a copy from the author herself, for an honest review, thank you!
You now how, in the review to Expendables, I said that "I love finding good dystopian novels {because} they restore my faith in the genre"? Well, what I love even more than that is reading the sequel to said dystopian novels and it proves to be even BETTER than the first one. I rated the first one five stars so, yeah... Infiltrators ended up being pretty damn good. I love Infiltrators even more than Expendables because, while the first book was good and descriptive and everything a lover of dystopia is probably looking for in the genre, it was pretty general in following the same sort of cookie-cutter path that most dystopian novels follow. It was BETTER than most other dystopian novels I've read, definitely so (I would still like to thank the author for not being too romance-heavy, praise God), but it definitely left room for more unique twists and turns to be unveiled later in the series. Going into Infiltrators, I admit, was a little hard to sink back into at the very beginning, BUT... Infiltrators DELIVERED those unique twists. There are two unique twists I want to talk about though I'll try my best to keep the talk general and not very spoiler-y. And one of those twists involves one of the main characters of the book - Aleesha. Book One reveals Aleesha'a family background, and Book Two does such a great job of delving into those family affairs even further. I also LOVE the turn the plot took - Aleesha's character, for awhile, became much, much darker than I ever expected from her and, considering the events that made her take that turn, I'm so glad that her reactions WEREN'T all... sunshine and rainbows. I think her reactions, while dark, did such a good job of providing even more conflict and turmoil to her own life and to Trey's. I like Trey, but I think Infiltrators definitely solidified Aleesha's spot as my favorite character. The next thing that was one of my favorite aspects of the plot, was the involvement of the Metz. In the universe of this series, The Metz are sort of like an EXTREME form of law enforcement, and in Book One they're just there as that - extremist law enforcement to be villainized. To be completely honest, I wasn't expecting much else from them, but Infiltrators threw in a BIG twist that added depth to The Metz that I, in a million years, never would have expected. The twist in particular is so, so good and I can't wait to see what might be done with them later in the series. As for the romance aspects, again, I am SO relieved that the plot does not revolve around intense romance. The number of dystopian novels that prioritize romance over saving a character's own life absolutely baffles me and, while romance does progress in Infiltrators, it's a tiny, tiny bit that is interrupted by other bigger, FAR more important plot events. Thank God. Aleesha and Trey are such great characters, I would've been pretty annoyed if their urge to face-smash had gotten in the way of other important matters. Overall, this series is proving to be pretty fantastic so far. The political commentary is great - it's there, for sure, but it's not done so in a way that throws itself in your face - and the characters and plot events and PLOT! TWISTS! are are so fantastically solid. I love Aleesha, I love Trey, and I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend to any lover of dystopian fiction! (But make sure you've read Book #1 first!)
Pulling my hair out!!! This book kept me on edge the entire time. I loved it. Ingleby knows exactly how to keep the reader engaged. She has a way of making you feel every emotion. I clutched my chest and also found myself yelling at the book because it was so enthralling. That’s the kind of book I love to read. I’ve just started the next book. Can’t wait to see what Ingleby has in store.
I am so glad to have stuck with the series. I actually found this one hard to put down despite being uncertain after reading book one. It's still a naive YA dystopia, but it's become more tightly focussed on our two protagonists' personal journeys. It draws you more into their inner struggles even as they get swept up in the battles wages around them.
We catch up with Trey and Aleesha as they decide what to do with the information they'd taken from the government headquarters. Bypassing their Chain handlers, they think taking it to the media will open Insider eyes to the plight of the Outsiders. Instead they get fear, anger and rebellion outside the wall. The Chain have a few more ideas of their own they need help with - taking down the Metz who are used to brutalise the populace. And then there's Sampson and his Brotherhood - just whose side are they on anyway? Aleesha and Trey need to decide who to trust, but just as they were coming to understand each other events are ready to tear them apart.
Pretty much everything I whinged about in the first book has been smoothed out here. Backstories and scene settings are filled in, events and actions are more logical and dramatic, the slower pace warranted by the slow to unfold events. A couple of little niggles remain () but I really liked how things are coming together.
Motivations are a big theme, what with Aleesha still looking for her parents' secrets and Trey trying to work out where he fits in. Bryn, Abby and new Chain head Katya all had parts to play in pushing their story forwards and adding so much more depth by being the (damaged) adults in the room.
There's a lot more talk of rape and/or abuse compared to the first book. It's not explicit in any way, just a bit uncomfortable. I'd liken it to the conceptual discomfort of something like Shade's Children. There's still the violence, but again it's not explicit and what I really liked is that more drama comes from the characters' individual actions (Aleesha, looking at you again, though Trey's learning) than from big set piece battles.
I wasn't sure about the Aleesha/Trey moment as it seemed so out of the blue, but it's not exactly what it seems.
Even with it being fairly slow, I raced through this. I really want to know about the Chain and the Brotherhood and why Aleesha and Trey can cross the Wall. The ending opens up so many moral questions for them too, promising a lot of soul-searching and drama.
-I received a free promotional copy of this ebook from the author. This does not affect my review-
This is the second book in The Wall series. We catch up with Aleesha, an unchipped Outsider, and Trey, an until recently, privileged Insider, in their fight for survival and the chance to find out everything they can behind the two separate areas of London and why the Outsiders, in particular, are treated so badly, are often addicted to ‘tronk’, and suffer from a much poorer level of intelligence.
The information Trey and Aleesha got when they into the basement of the government headquarters in the first book, they thought would be spread by the media, to both Insiders and Outsiders and it would help the people on both sides to come together in peace. Together they could overcome the oppressive government leaders. Unfortunately, the Insiders can find safety with in the Wall, even those that live outside in district six. The Outsiders can only fight against the Metz, thought to be some sort of extreme human cyborg giants that police London, or against themselves!
The fighting gets severe and the Metz come in to try and retain control. With so many Outsiders incensed by what they have been told over the media about the government, anger has taken over. They already have to worry about survival, finding food, avoiding the Metz and any Clearances, watching out for anyone crazy or stronger than them and also avoid the local gangs and stay in their own area for safety.
The resulting riots and deaths that result from the leaked findings are not what Aleesha and Trey had set out to do and now they have to find another way to equalise lives between both areas, inside and outside. One Outsider organisation, the Brotherhood, has an unknown Leader, who stays outside of London altogether and yet another organisation called the Chain, both with differing ideas. One idea is to find a way to control the Metz and use them to attack the Insiders, not what Aleesha or Trey really want.
Aleesha finds a fault of a kind, with an interaction with a single Metz officer and hopes to find a way into their compound to find out more about her mother’s death and maybe discover who her dad actually is. The Insider President is planning a large attack against those on the other side of the wall. The Outsiders have lost their fear of the Metz’s to some extent and have far superior numbers, so an assault is planned. With complete defeat of the troublemakers and rebels from district four in particular and making an example of the civilians to make them fear the government again.
Nothing goes quite as Aleesha and her friends expect and events could break apart the fragile friendships between them. As she was told, there is a big difference between revenge and justice. Which does she actually want?
Another great story in this series by the author. It was easy to pick up from book one, Expendables, especially with characters such as Aleesha, Trey, Abby and Bryn. There is always plenty going on and you never quite know how something is going to turn out. If Aleesha finds out who killed her mother, what will she do? An easy book to read and I can’t wait now for the third book in the series, Defenders.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Title: Infiltrators: The Wall Series, Book 2 Author: Alison Ingleby
Star Rating: 5 Stars Number of Readers: 20 Stats Editing: 9/10 Writing Style: 9/10 Content: 9/10 Cover: 7/10 Of the 20 readers: 18 would read another book by this author. 15 thought the cover was good or excellent. 18 felt it was easy to follow. 18 would recommend this story to another reader to try. 13 felt the author’s strongest skill was ‘plotting a story’. 7 felt the author’s strongest skill was ‘developing the characters’. 19 felt the pacing was good or excellent. 18 thought the author understood the readership and what they wanted.
Readers’ Comments ‘This is a very dark novel which is strongly plotted. The characters work hard in this story to do what’s right. I liked that. I thought the cover was a bit too simplistic. That could be much better.’ Girl, aged 13 ‘I loved Trey, the best character by far. The Insiders and Outsiders reflects culture today in many ways. I liked the political undercurrent but it’s not too much; it’s not forced on the reader. The two central characters are interesting, and there’s excellent chemistry between them. I don’t think it’s as intense as The Hunger Games but, if you liked that book, you will probably like this.’ Girl, aged 17 ‘Good dystopian novel. I have not read the first book but it didn’t seem to kill it for me. I loved this book anyway. Exciting, full of surprising twists and not too much romance…thankfully!’ Girl, aged 16 ‘Fantastic story. The characters were so ‘real’ which is what I liked best.’ Boy, aged 15
To Sum It Up: ‘A gripping YA novel packed full of twists and turns – and a lot of darkness. A FINALIST and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
“Justice and revenge. I had thought they were two words for the same thing. But I was wrong.”
So many shades of gray. So many groups claiming to be the ‘good guys’. The Chain. The Brotherhood. But what about truly caring for all the people in Ms. Ingleby’s dystopian London? This second book in The Wall Series was amazing! I love a gritty, nuanced post apocalyptic dystopian novel and this did not disappoint.
The story resumes with Aleesha and Trey as they are confronted with the consequences of sharing their stolen information. Knowledge may be power, but only if presented and used in the right way. Things are not looking good for either The Ousiders or The Insiders. Deeply buried secrets are still being revealed. Revenge and betrayal lurk around every corner. But the worst is yet to come; will our flawed, yet lovable protagonists prevail?
This was so good. Mystery, action, suspense, and a slow (very slow) burning romance. I loved how much more backstory there was for the cast of characters. The moral quandaries really made you think about how you would react in circumstance that could happen to any of us. The character development was excellent and just the general story kept me turning pages to find out what would happen next. I’m so happy to have received an ARC and am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
If you are a fan of Red Rising and The Hunger Games, grab ‘Expendables’, book #1 in The Wall Series to see how it all started!
I love this book. It is a perfect pick up from where Expendables left off. I enjoyed the development of the characters and how they make mistakes but still try to do the right thing. I found the alternating story chapters perfectly paced and a wonderful way to see the story develop through both the main characters' eyes. I appreciate how even the minor characters were given many opportunities to show who they truly were and how all that has happened so far has changed them also. There are so many life lessons and societal parallels in this series. So many people think they know what is going on just because they watch the news or TV or movies or donate to causes and really when it comes down to it they are just as judgemental as others even if they don't mean to be. Although many would see Aleesha and Trey as idealistic they do make the tough decisions when it matters. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book after getting a copy from the author.
After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story.
This amazing series continues with Infiltrators, which continues where Expendables left off. This mesmerizing and addictive dystopian read continues to follow Aleesha and Trey as they struggle to survive outside the wall and try to fight the injustices they are facing. It is so well written, so exciting, that I was completely hooked on the story and wanted—no, needed—to read ‘just one more chapter’. Dystopia and scifi fans will definitely enjoy this book, and I would also recommend it to anyone who would like to read something new and exciting in the realm of YA literature .
This was a great read! It is a very satisfying sequal to the expendables. More character developement, lots of action(FYI for the squeamish..there's some graphic violence but none that I considered gratuitous) and a good exploration of the different aspects of this world and the factions that inhabit it. I'm really enjoying how the 2 central characters are growing in maturity, nolonger accepting everything at face value, and in dealing with the adversity that comes their way. It's going to be a long summer waiting for the next book! This is a voluntary review of an ARC.
This is a brilliant follow up to the first book in this series.
I won’t reveal too much in my review~expect a lot of action, development of the characters and the storyline.
I love the main 2 characters~Trey & Aleesha plus the whole “will they, won’t they” aspect. The author is a big tease haha.
I find this storyline so intriguing~it has me hooked. Who are the “baddies & goodies”, what is the right action to take etc. Now I know there will be a book 3, I am super excited. I hope that you enjoy reading this book as much as I have.
Wow! This series just gets better and better. I absolutely LOVE this book Infiltrators! I couldn't put it down and kept reading through the night. I love the way the plot has developed and the fast paced suspense, and the way you're just gripped with the story and transported into the book world. Amazing author! She weaves the story in a way that keeps you glued to the book and enjoying each page. I alao love the way the book ends and leaves you longing to read the next one in the series. I highly recommend reading this book and the Wall series.
This second book of the series is a very humanizing story of how Aleesha and Darwin-Trey try and find a place to grow and live in a divided London. Inside life appears easy and Outside life is grim and hard. The leaders of both factions try and manipulate the two main characters.
The story is full of believable twists and suspense.
This could be our apocalyptic future if society in our part of the world is not careful.
Another awesome book by Alison that I did not want to end.
Alison has great talent. She melds the story together without using sex and constant cussing as many of today's writers do. I could reccomend her books to my 15 year old, quite mature, but still 15 year old daughter without feeling bad. Thank you Alison for another great read!!!
I thought I knew what was coming in Book 2 after having read Book 1, but my guesses about at least a few main things were way off the mark. But what waited for me was so much better than I could have imagined. I like these characters. It feels like they are my friends, going through these horrible circumstances. If you like white knuckles, you need to read this.
I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review They thought the truth would bring everyone together but they were so wrong as it seems there are even more troubles happening. How can they get everyone together? See how they will try
They thought the truth would bring everyone together but they started a war instead. This was not what they wanted. Now they have to find a way to stop it as finally get everyone together I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review
Fantastical story and one that really draws you into every scene. You get to feel the tension as you eat up the descriptive scenarios and settings. Great story writing and I'm looking forward to book 3.
The second book in the series has Aleesha questioning her life and trying to be a better person. I really enjoyed reading it although I cried several times when life was too hard for Aleesha and her new friends.
Aleesa and Trey thought when they handed over the papers, that would be it. Definitely wrong. Such action and suspense to keep you intrigued until the end. Loved it.
I really enjoyed this author’s first book “The Expendables” even though I found it morally disturbing. I picked up the second book shortly afterwards and promptly lost it among the rest of my Ebooks. I am very glad I found it yesterday morning. Here it is 24 hours later and I have finished it! I couldn’t put it down. It was as well written as the first book. My heart was in my throat for part of the book, ready to cry during other parts and it didn’t stop there. The author described her characters so well that you could feel their anger, hopelessness, along with empathy and sympathy. Will we ever find out what makes the Metz tick? They have remained a mystery. Many characters have carried through which allows for a depth that many books don’t have, yet it seems like one of the characters we get to know ends up dead.
