Humans, aliens, and dragons. Who will inherit the galaxy?
They said aliens didn’t exist, until they landed on the White House lawn.
They said dragons didn’t exist, until they arrived in the galaxy . . . To turn it into cosmic dust.
A new threat from beyond the galaxy rim has emerged, taking the lives of humans and aliens across the Milky Way. They look like dragons. They sound like dragons. They burn our cities like dragons . . . and apparently our spaceships too.
Captain Rebecca Foster is no stranger to saving the galaxy from mythological beings that shouldn’t exist but do. Dealing with dragons from beyond the galactic rim is a task she and her crew are more than qualified for. The new Earth government, however, disagrees, and sends the Marines instead, grounding Rebecca and her crew until further notice.
And then things don’t go according to plan . . .
Salvation for the galaxy now lies in the hands of Rebecca’s ability to get back into the captain’s chair and show the galaxy how you slay dragons with 22nd century weapons and technology.
Science-fiction and fantasy collide with explosive results in this action-packed adventure set in the Splintered Galaxy universe.
Eddie R. Hicks is a Canadian science fiction author of the Splintered Galaxy series. Although he enjoys his work in the culinary arts industry over the last few years, his true passion since he was a very young age has always been story telling.
A cool book that starts a new space opera in the Splintered Galaxy. I thought it was a great space opera that had action, space battles, sleep ins and dragons. I thought the main characters were great and easy to like and root for. I liked the touch of mystery too. Just a great story line that caught my attention from the beginning and kept me reading until the end. A few questions raised in the beginning were answered by the end but not all. Hints to answers were dropped too just to keep me reading and wanting the next book to see what happens next. I have to say Foster's crew have a lot of luck in this book but by the end I was thinking its good to have since they will need it. I thought this was a great space opera story set in an amazing galaxy that kept me reading to see what would happen next. Plus do not forget the dragons.
Dragons and aliens, oh my! Eddie R. Hicks is definitely a pro when it comes to highly adventurous epic scifi. That’s certainly demonstrated in his Celestial Incursion, the first book in his new Edge of the Splintered Galaxy series. What a wild ride Captain Rebecca Foster goes on, well written, perfectly plotted and with a great cast of characters. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Celestial Incursion is the first book in the Edge of the Splintered Galaxy series. While you can read this as a standalone, I highly recommend that you first read the Splintered Galaxy series as this storyline will make much more sense with that background. There is a lot of violence...this is a war in both space and on land as enemies fight each other. Much of this book is spent trying to determine what happened to Rebecca Foster and the crew aboard the Carl Sagan after they disappeared. Who would have thought to bring dragons into the mix in a SciFi novel? It is an interesting concept. I can't wait to read the next book!
An intense, action-packed story with a plethora of species just beginning to trust each other when a new attack occurs. The story as a wonderfully creative and twisty plot, and is peopled with great characters. It has a timeline and explanation of the characters by species, in case you haven’t read the previous book so it can stand alone, but is a bit less confusing at the start if you have read the other book. Truly engaging
A good read. It is obvious that there are other books which set the foundation for the story. Once you get past that fact you hope that the questions raised by existing conditions get answers. I found the story to be a bit disjointed but because of the skill of the writer I was able to "hold that thought" until the tale returned. I laughed out loud as I wrote that! Characters are realistic and the story has just the right amount of intensity.
I found it a bit too disjointed. It had too many stories going on. Well written and researched. Would have liked more of one story before changing to another.
