From USA Today bestselling author Willow Winters comes an emotionally gripping, standalone, romantic suspense, USA Today bestseller!
It was only a little lie. That’s how stories like these get started. But every lie I told, he saw through it. I think in his heart he knew I was broken; he felt my pain as if it was his.
And that’s what changed everything. He’s the reason it all fell apart.
Sometimes it’s a single moment that alters everything in existence. Sometimes it’s the fall of dominoes, lined up in a pretty little row and designed so that each one will cause more and more pain. In a single day, it’s all changed, and there’s no way to take it back. I didn't know what would happen. But secrets and lies ruin everything.
“I was captivated from the very beginning, and I couldn't let go until the very end. Winters wove an outstanding tale, which has an even better message within its pages.” - Kendra @ Reads and Treats
** It's Our Secret was previously titled Little Liar **
Willow started writing after having her little girl, Evie, December 2015. All during her pregnancy with Evie she continued to read and she only wanted to read romance. She was reading a book a day — sometimes two.
In January 2016 Willow was staying up late with Evie and just thinking of all these stories. They came to her constantly so she finally sat down and just started writing. She always wanted to do it so she figured, why not? Today Willow cannot be happier for making that decision!
Dean Warren & Allison Parker story was originally published January 23rd 2018, this book was Re-edited & new scene added , in my opinion this book got amazing facelift
This is one of those books, You may think you know what's going on, & what to expect, but I can almost guarantee you'll be surprised by at least one or two twist in the book, this one will keep you at the edge of your seat all the way until the very end of the book- Great job Willow
No cliffhangers. Very mature themes. WARNING: EXTREMELY HOT.
You’ll find yourself saying after reading this book, what a emotional & captivating beautiful story. The author will entrap you within the pages of the story.
📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion+ Also I wouldn’t never discourage anyone from reading this book.

2.75 stars This was my first Willow Winter's book and it was deliberately, because I see her books a lot on GR, she is quite popular author, her books are read also by other authors.
I must say there was no WOW moment for me. I really don't like stories where you don't know what you are reading almost to the end. Endless teasing about some secret, what happened 5 years ago; everything based on too many hints through whole story! And than you wait and read and at the end there is not even WOW effect. At this "suspense" progress I expected much stronger ending.
It's Our Secret centres around Dean and Allie, young adults who have suffered loss and tragedy that has had a devastating effect on them in differing ways. Both seem to be unable to process the idea of being deserving of love, which considering what they have gone through as young adults is understandable. Reading about these two broken souls connecting and seeing how they develop because of each other was fantastic.
It's Our Secret covers some tough trigger topics for some readers; but as always Willow handles them well within the story, infusing them and her characters emotions completely into the tale, making it impactful and hard hitting at times.
Dean is a lad's lad, alpha and puts on an arrogant front to keep up the pretence of his reputation. The moment he meets Allie we see the vulnerable, softer side of the man he truly is, a man who cares and wants to love and be loved. Allie's character for me was written as a fierce young woman who owns her sexuality and her kink, she likes the power the attraction men show her can bring. However once you start to peel back each layer of Allie's back-story, we discover why she seeks out a certain kind of man, and she shows a deeply scarred young woman.
Willow Winters added quite a few twists and turns into the story and it keeps the pages turning. With a Daniel Cross featuring as a secondary character too, that is a welcome surprise for any fans of the Merciless World. I read this novel when it was first released in early 2018 and seeing the additions to this newer version has brought the story to the forefront more. The connection between the characters is amplified compared to the previous version I read, which is great to see. I don't want to focus too much on what is different. I just want to say that the minor changes and additions made have, in my opinion elevated the novel and I enjoyed reading it all over again.
It’s Our Secret is a riveting story of what should never happen, but does all too often. A tragic and heartbreaking web of abuse and lies leads two broken souls together in a way only Willow can write. I weeped for these characters, my heart shattered and then it was mended back together with hope for their new future. This book is heavy but inspirational, it’s gut wrenching yet beautiful and it’s powerful beyond measure in it’s message.
Dean living the life of feeling unwanted by his mother instantly recognized the shadows behind Allison’s eyes. He noticed her before she even realized, but once she noticed him she was bound to falter in her mission. The amount of solace these two found in one another is immeasurable. Both of them saved each other even if at times it seems the complete opposite. Dean’s protective nature and genuinely good moral fiber keeps him afloat, he’s stronger than he knows and you will want to make him feel loved so deeply.
Allison, oh Allie Cat. The emotions she feels through out her journey are extreme. They are warranted, they are real, they are the truth that so many women have faced in their life time it’s unfathomable. Your heart will bleed for her and her struggles. You feel her pain as you read. Those feelings of guilt, helplessness and the need to do anything within your power to right a wrong that isn’t even your wrong in the first place. I hate admitting how relatable she is because I wish it wasn’t real. Allison’s growth is steady from the start, hidden in the background but as you read you feel her healing begin.
This story broke me in a way but didn’t leave me hopeless. It brought out a lot of tears but by the end they went from sorrow to joy. Willow tastefully tackles a topic that is hard to do and she truly did it justice. Together Allison and Dean turn the worst circumstances into the best new beginning. Once you love someone so deeply, there’s no turning back. Always and forever.
Wow, what an emotional yet beautiful story! Re-edited and added scenes, this book just got a facelift! Dean Warren meets Allison Parker in college. He didn’t have the best upbringing after the passing of his father but he is trying to make something of himself. Allison’s life changed dramatically after one night five years ago. She is hiding a big secret but what is it and how will that effect them both? One secret will change everything they know. This is told in the past and present so you get the full picture. I feel this book is best experienced going in blind and I don’t want to spoil anything. A heart gripping, emotional journey that everyone should read. *There might be a trigger for some in this. Told in dual POV

I love the contemporary side to Willow Winters’ writing. She elicits so many deep seated emotions that it’s impossible to not feel.
It’s Our Secret is so much more than a college romance. It’s thought evoking and emotional. Willow Winters tackles deep issues that far too many people are still too afraid to speak out about because the stigma of “she asked for it” lingers. Too often women are judged and as such the cry for justice is unheard.
Allison’s story is heart wrenching but there’s a glimmer of hope... something that we can all cling to even in our darkest days.
Allison is set on keeping a promise she made at age 15- five years on she masks herself and becomes a character that at times feels “too much”... but that’s what is portrayed on the outside. Dean is straight up dirty talking, hella sexy and broken- yet there’s a softness about him that so endearing. The chemistry they have is kindle incinerating but it’s both their inner demons that threaten to consume them from the inside out- my heart breaks for them in different ways- yet, somehow the broken pieces fit together- jagged and beautiful.
It’s Our Secret can be read as a standalone and was originally released in January of 2018. This edition is reedited and extended.
I loved this book the first time around and I can appreciate that it’s not a book some readers will be comfortable with. The revised version has not in my opinion had not altered my reading experience. I highly recommend book if you’ve not read this before and will always recommend this author.
While I was reading the book, I get a major vibe of Promising Young Woman when it comes to the plot device not so much in the storyline execution, Anyhow It's Our Secret is a compelling and evocative tale of Allison Parker who become haunted by her past and how much it implicates her future.
How far are you willing to go, for the sake of keeping one deadly secret? Are you ready to forfeit your happiness for justice and revenge?
“I don’t give a fuck what you call it, Allie. As long as I’m running with you, that’s all that matters to me.”
Just took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to read this . It’s been a whole month since I read a book that fast . Really liked winters writing . Her writing is fast paced and easy to read .
Wow. This book was not what I expected. Like the MC says, you think you know my story, you don't.
Little Liar is Allison and Dean's story. Allison has been keeping a heart wrenching, soul tearing secret buried inside her that has made her hateful for the past five years and her only focus is to get justice and revenge on the person responsible for it. You really feel for Allison for the guilt and blame that she has been carrying on her shoulders for so long. The burden has weighed her down and when she meet's Dean she's scared of how okay he makes he feel.
Dean hasn't had an easy childhood, with his Dad dying and a mother who couldn't care less. All he's ever wished for was to be wanted and that finally comes true when he meets Allie. They are both each other's saving grace.
Their intense story starts with instant attraction but progresses to be so much more. It deals with serious topics and I am really impressed with the strong message this book sends. How it turned from She Asked For It to He Asked For it. WW is becoming my all time favorite authors with each book.
It’s Our Secret is a revamped story that Willow released some time ago. She has gone back to add additional content and an alternative ending. This is the first time I’ve ever met Dean and Allison, so their story is all very new to me.
As ever with Willow, she takes you on a suspenseful journey with of course some really hot chemistry between the two main characters. Wow some of those love scenes were on fire!
It’s Our Secret does feature some dark themes, Dean and Allison have both experienced some real hurt and anguish between them in the past.
“Both of us were flawed, but together we make sense, don’t we?”
I don’t want to give too much away as that’s the main part of reading this book, to experience the suspense that follows this story and what’s going to happen and of course what happened to make Allison the way she is.
She did it again. Willow Winters had me on the edge of my seat all along. She knows how to create a sexy and thrilling story, with lots of emotions and a bit of mystery. Through small meaningful details, she brings the reader inside the story, to better shatter their heart.
As is often the case, her characters feel deeply and strongly, be it love, lust, anger or sadness. Never a dull moment in Allie and Dean’s relationship. They both struggle with past trauma, and deal with difficult personalities, but through their codependancy, they find solace and healing support. It’s tough, it’s a difficult thing to witness and read about, but that makes for a beautiful relationship, if not an easy one.
The main theme here is victim blaming. Dean’s constant anger is the result of his upbringing, and yet he’s the one facing the consequences, and all he sees are people punishing him for it. As for Allie, as I don’t want to say too much about the plot, I’ll just say she’s experienced a different kind of victim shaming, and isn’t against seeking another one if it means getting what she’s after, revenge.
It’s a powerful story, but not for the faint of heart. Be prepared for a dark romance with some sweet moments and a lot of pain.
Quickie
- Series: standalone - Hashtags: #romantic suspense #lies #dark past - Triggers: attempted rape, rape, suicide, murder - Main couple: Allison Parker & Dean Warren - Hotness: 5/5 - Romance: 4/5 - + as always, I love how the author gives little bits and hints before offering the solution - – not sure it would be that easy in real life for Dean to escape his fate…
The story of Allison and Dean has been revised from the previous version.
I am not going to dive in deep with this but I will say... This is extraordinary and probably up in my favorite books by this author.
Allison and Dean and the whirlwind relationship will have your emotions on overdrive. Mine were strung out to dry and I found myself a blubbering mess throughout the entire book. This side of Willow Winters's writing isn't so much as dark but it is emotional and captivating, it still holds that intense, gripping, all-consuming plot that I couldn't pull myself away from. I was completely consumed by these two... This book deals with some hard, raw, and real issues that could be triggering for some. I didn't see a lot of it coming, and that is a true Willow book, she will have you thinking one thing but the story will take you in the opposite direction and have your mind spinning in all the best ways and this book did just that.
It's a MUST READ and one I believe a reader should go into with little to no spoilers.
Sit down, grabs some tissues, and enjoy the emotional ride will surely capture your heart like it did mine!
This was my first ever read by Willow Winters. The first time I read this book, I was in tears by the end and the second time around it was exactly the same. This book is an emotional rollercoaster. From the first page, Willow is able to suck you right into Allison and Dean’s world. Giving you bits and pieces of who they are and why we are reading this story. Not only did I enjoy this the second time around, but I thought the additions and edits that were made from the original story were great and made this book even more memorable. Willow brings you into a story about two very broken people with hard hitting topics not many like to talk about and does it with ease and class. The first time I read this book I was absolutely shocked and even again my jaw was on the floor. I am constantly amazed with Willow’s skill and talent of storytelling and this is one you need to pick up!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
TW: rape, suicide, attempted rape and murder.
I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! What an intense read! This book has a very strong theme and I think the message is a great one. Both Allison and Dean have personal issues with very deep roots. Allison’s are soul crushing and truly start when she is not much more than a little girl. I understand what her intent was and her purpose, but I just wished she fully realized that she didn’t have anything to apologize for and, although misguided, she deserves to be happy. Dean’s a great guy with a very complicated back story with complicated family relationships and a traumatic event from his childhood. He developed his own issues as a result and struggles to cope with this every day. There are lies and a bit of deceit, but there is real love there. When everything comes to light Dean stands strong and supports Allison the best he can. It’s an HEA but it’s a rough one. Great writing that doesn’t reveal what’s happening leaves you guessing and turning the page. Recommended.
Holy hell...let me catch my breath for a minute. I don’t know what to say other than WOW! It’s Our Secret was devastatingly beautiful in so many ways. My heart hurt for both Dean and Allison from the very beginning and didn’t stop until the end. Even when they first found each other and realized their feelings, things were still keeping them from fully being together. And the reason why is even more heartbreaking. I don’t want to go into specifics because it’s such a huge lead up and reveal but it hurt so much. Even with all of their hang ups and issues, Dean and Allison were perfect for each other and are now one of my favorite couples. And also maybe because Dean is amazing and dreamy. I hope they make an appearance in Daniel’s book because I’m not ready to let them go just yet.
I couldn’t like this book and I can’t quite pinpoint the reason. There was just something there I couldn’t connect with 🤷🏻♀️To be honest, I don’t even know what to say here 😅 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It could have been the heroine, but after I read the part of revealing the Big Bang of the story, I sympathized with her a little... or it could also have been the countless sex scene there with no depth. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind sex in my books, I love hot well written steamy sex! but I do mind when books are only about sex... but then the story did deal with some heavy themes... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So yeah... I have no idea what I can about it but I do know this book wasn’t for me and those reasons annoyed the hell out of me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So yeah... I have no idea why but I do know this book wasn’t for me.
I read this book a while back and realised I didn’t review it, what a great excuse for a reread and more to to say just incredible this story is.
Dean and Alison’s story is heart wrenchingly beautiful, my heart breaks for them in different ways. They both have their own inner demons that threaten to consume them from the inside out. Willow Winters writes with so much deep seated emotions it’s impossible to not feel at one with her characters. Her scenes play out vividly and the chemistry between the characters is so tangible.
One day someone is going to hug you so tight, that all your broken pieces fit back together. This best describes Dean and Allison's relationship. They both have personal internal struggles that endanger to devour them and leave them empty. The emotions of their story sucked me in but also sucked me dry. Holding onto lies and not telling the truth has the strength and ability to destroy everything that is good in your life.
The journey between Dean and Allison was captivating and spellbinding.
As I am reading this book I feel like I had a connection with the characters. The feeling you get from Dean & Allie is amazing! The ups and downs that go with this book feel goods. Willow Winters knows how to keep her readers following her characters attention. Especially mine. I loved this book! If you want to read something and I promise you that you will be just like me. Hanging on to every word of this book! Such true emotion and Love its amazing!!
It's Our Secret by Willow Winters was an incredibly angst filled read, with strong themes, and intense emotion!
This book now has revised and updated content - I had not read the original, but can speak to the incredible build up of this book! I was riveted by its pages and unable to put it down!
It's Our Secret will grab hold of you and won't let go! Emotional, angsty, and so beautiful! Grab this twisty and intense read today!
*Read more of my reviews at Whoo Gives A Hoot* It's hard to believe that this was my very first time reading something from Willow Winters because now I am beyond addicted to her incredibly beautiful and insanely captivating writing style. Her words are simply poetic and they have forever been branded deep inside my heart. I absolutely loved that undeniable feeling of intensity and embraced it wholeheartedly from start to finish.
The moment I read the blurb for this story I knew that I had to get my hands on a copy of this book right away because it sounded like it was going to be fascinating read. Let me just say that I had no clue what to expected going into this one. I would finish one section of the story thinking that I finally had it all figured out and then suddenly the story would take a turn in a different direction and I would find myself completely lost all over again. This book certainly kept me on the tips of my toes in anticipating until the very end.
Damn. I devoured this extraordinarily beautiful story and can say without a doubt that this is one of my favorite reads and I think it will stay in my top reads for a longtime. Willow Winters did an extraordinary job bringing out the emotion in her readers and I think that people are going to fall in love with Allie and Dean's story!
After reading the prequel, I was eager to see how the story continued. I'll admit I did hesitate getting this book as the price, at £3.99 is more than what I'd spend on a book unless it's a series I absolutely love. Obviously, I bought the book as I really needed to see where the storyline went. Did it live up to my expectations? No, and here's why. For me, the characters felt flat to the point they were almost horizontal. There was no growth to the characters throughout the story. It also didn't help that the author dragged out the fact that heroine liked rough sex for a very good chunk of the book even though it was hinted at in the prequel. Secrets and lies (which they both had and did frequently) does not a good relationship make. How did the so called hero get away with murder? That confused me as not much was said after the so called new evidence came to light, all we got was a break during the arraignment and the next thing I knew, he was walking out the door in new clothes. No explanation, nada. And the final thing, where did the I'm in love with you come from? I didn't see that building, just the Insta lust. So to end my review, do I recommend it? No. Is it, in my opinion, worth £3.99? No because, and again in my opinion, it wasn't a full novel. On my kindle, Allison and Deans story ended at 88%. For me, a full novel, ends at 100%
Wow, I’m not really sure how to start this review. I absolutely loved this book, there are so many feelings after reading this and during the story. This is a very emotional read and will make you question everything. Dean and Allison are two broken souls looking for something and when these two meet they are explosive together, each bringing with them baggage from the past, and all you want to do is wrap them both up in your arms and let them know you are there for them. Willow did such an amazing job with their story, you feel like you are right there, feeling for them, being their champion, wanting to do what you can for them. There are secrets, smoldering hot chemistry, passion and deep love. This book is not what I was expecting it to be, it was more, and when you try to figure some things out and you think you know, guess what you don’t. This book was amazing, loved it and highly recommend it.
I originally read this book in 2018 with the title She Asked For It. It is just as tragic and beautiful and moving as it was then. Allison and Dean are complicated fully developed characters and their story will grab hold of your heart. God, how I love them!
This gritty romance has a dark undercurrent throughout. You know from the start that both Allison and Dean are broken by the trauma they each experienced as teens; and you know Allison has some sort of hidden agenda that Dean was never meant to be part of. When she meets Dean, she finds a connection so strong and deep that she finds herself briefly straying from her set course of action but ultimately, her need for revenge sets them on a course for disaster.
The writing is excellent in this steamy, heart-wrenching, mesmerizing story. Willow Winters is a great storyteller and this amazing book is one of her best.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
It's Our Secret is a story that Willow has released a while ago and now she added new content revised the book a bit. I read the original version as well and I'm loving the extra content! As usual with Willow's books, it's full of emotions, with lots angst and of course lot's of chemistry. Dean and Allison have both experienced rough times and have lots of painful demons. Both of them go through quite the development throughout the book - with Dean, there's a slow change in the way he approaches love. He is a big alpha guy, but Allison brings up his much softer side. Even though he annoyed me at times, Willow made me fall in love with him as the story progressed. And when it comes to Allie, she was a very strong fierce female character who is not afraid of her desires...she is very intriguing!
Great book, really well written characters with lots of unexpected moments!
It's Our Secret is quite the angsty read from Willow Winters! I never read the previously published version, so I'm not sure what changes/additions were made, but what I did read was addicting and I enjoyed Dean and Allie's story a lot! Both characters were pretty broken, due to events that had happened to them in their past, but they found comfort in one another despite the lies and secrets between them. It's a bit different from some of the last books of Willow's just based on the darker themes/topics in the story, but she did a wonderful job with it and I highly recommend checking this one out!
